Excellent 3 course Sunday lunch for under £13. Staff extremely friendly and at seat service which always makes the experience special. Thoroughly recommend

Hmmmm....room is really nice..staff friendly....diner is very ordinary...lots of chips hid a thin steak...its all a little haphazard.....very country...just take it in your stide..

We were here for an overnight stay on route home , we were greeted from a lovely woman who gave a the choice of two rooms facing to the front and we chose the one named Teith , when we entered we could smell the musty smell but not sure if it was coming from bedroom or bathroom but left and went downstairs for a drink and we sat outside in the sunshine which was nice , we decided to have dinner there to save going anywhere else as it was more convenient , we both had the roast dinner but couldn’t cut the roast potatoes and the roast beef was very very chewy , the knifes and forks couldn’t cut anything as they looked very old and thick , after eating we wanted to go to the bar and listen to the two men who were playing music but there were no seats available as they were reserved for the locals who obviously went every week , bedtime arrived and we put the blind down but they didn’t go all the way down and the windows could do with a clean and a paint as they were all black and had webs on them , the curtains looked like they had been up since the Victorian age , and they were hanging off the curtain rail the bed was comfy , but we think this place needs a n upgrade but we must say the staff were friendly enough and we were told if we had any concerns to tell the manager before we leave but the only person we saw was the chef who cooked a good breakfast , we definitely wouldn’t stay here again

Stayed here for 1 night , room was fabulous , quite large with ensuite, plenty of parking , and in a nice quiet village Evening meal and breakfast was thoroughly enjoyed, will for sure stay here again on our travels

Stopped off for lunch whilst passing by. Very helpful staff and good food at very reasonable prices. They have a car park which was a bonus as Callander was extremely busy being a Saturdsy afternoon. Definitely worth a visit.

My wife and I (and dog) had an excellent stay here for 1 night. The room was spacious and comfy and perfect for a day walking around Callander. We booked in for the Saturday steak night (2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £30) and couldn't believe how good it was. The steaks were delicious and came with all the trimmings and sauce. The value for money was excellent considering you rarely get a main course for under £15 these days! After the meal we retreated to the cosy bar to watch a brilliant band. I forget the name but the atmosphere was great and made for such a good night. The stay was topped off by a full breakfast the following morning which was exactly what was needed. My wife had the pancakes and bacon with maple syrup which were equally as good. We will definitely return and hopefully stay for the Sunday roast!

Allways stay here when in the area. Frendly staff, very good food, and clean accomodation. And Peter keeps the bar well!

Popped in for lunch on spec without booking . We were met at the door and shown to a very nice table the gentleman was extremely polite and helpful. The menu was basically pub grub but plenty of choices and everything available which considering slightly out of tourist season is good to see. Food came quickly and was pipping hot . Not problem with the quality and we had 4 empty plates at the end. Price was very reasonable although we are not local and unlikely to be in the area for a while we would not hesitate to go back or recommend a lunch stop here.

While on holiday in the area visited one sunny afternoon to stop for a drink. Disgraceful welcome. Establishment empty but could not give us a table in the main outside area as they were all booked. Was offered a table at the side then we waited at the serving hatch for over 10 minutes and was constantly ignored by 2 members of staff. Would not recommend. Not a good advertisement for tourist. Will avoid when in the area again.

Big thanks for accommodating 8 adults & small dog for Sunday lunch at short notice. 3 courses for £10 of quality food including a delicious carvery. Service was excellent & some live music outside also good. Nice traditional style family hotel.

The menu is not very accessible - you have to go to serving hatch to see what's available. This is also where you place and pay for your order. We were very happy to sit outside as it was a beautiful evening. It looked like a random selection of tables and chairs. The food was reasonably good but nothing special. The staff were attentive but not intrusive.

It’s not my thing but it would be unfair of me to leave a bad review for that. it stated clearly what it was so I give them credit for that but no matter what your thing is lthe food was very average

Quaint little inn that felt very classic and homely, served by an old couple who were very warm. Food was very nice and felt like home cooked food.We had a starter of chicken drums that was juicy inside, cooked just right. The Ribeye steak was thin and so medium well turned out to be a bit too cooked but still delicious. Scottish steak with Ale Pie was very good. Tender and tasty beef stew with a pie crust on top. Highly recommended. Rounded off with delicious Choc fudge cheesecake for dessert.

We were guided here by our Glengarry Guest House host, Evelyn. Pure Malt was providing authentic Scottish tunes, and along with the good food, gave us a wonderful evening at moderate prices.

Ate here one evening as we were staying. Only ourselves and 1 other group eating. Staff very friendly and restaurant area cosy and pleasant just through from thermal bar. Standard menu had the normal choices and prices reasonable. Good sized portions which will certainly fill you up and nicely cooked.For starters we had the haggis fritters and the black pudding fritters with a sad garnish. Both nice. Mains gammon steak and smoked haddock fish cakes. The fish cakes appeared to be homemade but could have done with more smoked haddock as the predominate taste was mashed potato and chives. Te gloom was cooked well.No room left for pudding even though we wanted to try the Apple pudding!

Went with my family for an evening meal. Starters, mains and desserts all excellent with very generous portion sizes. Staff were very attentive without being intrusive and we were made to feel very much at home. Prices were very reasonable and an added bonus was there was live music after we had finished dining, in the bar from 9pm. Will definitely return.

This cosy little hotel is an ideal base for exploring a beautiful area of Scotland, as well as being a great over-night stopping-off point when travelling to and from the Highlands. The accommodation is comfortable, the staff friendly and the food excellent.

Live band on Wed nights, and were we glad we chose Wed night to go for dinner at this small dinner. The food served was delicious and the whole place was packed by 9am when the music started. We thoroughly enjoyed the Scottish band and everyone present was singing or stomping their feet in approval. It was a blast!

The Old Rectory was recommend by the owner of the bed and breakfast we were staying at. Dinner service and food were wonderful. Relaxed and inviting, would highly recommend!

Called in here on two occasions, both for a drink on our way back to The Westerton. First night we hit upon quiz night-a Tuesday and were "arm twisted" to help an Austrian couple who were great fun. We helped them to third place (from three teams altogether) but a very friendly place with the staff bringing your drinks to the table. The next night was music night with a great duo and we all packed into the bar, dining area and anywhere else you could get a seat. Great night and welcoming staff and locals. Keep it up lads as not many local pubs left.

Did what it said on the tin, but no more. The food was fine, but service effort seemed limited to basics.

We popped in here after a very rainy day sightseeing. We did not look our best (as you can imagine) but that was okay. Our server was an absolute delight, Ailish was kind, friendly, courteous, very sweet and attentive an absolute credit to this hotel. We had left our dogs in the car but we could have taken them in with us which was nice to know. The food was good, nothing fancy just good honest food, made and delivered quickly but to a good standard. If we are ever up that way again we would re-visit. (ps if management read this Ailish deserves a pay rise )

We arrived here for a Sunday roast and found the staff to be very attentive and gave us water for the 2 dogs we had. We sat in the beer garden and were offered drinks and food very quickly even tho this little gem of a place was really busy.

Pero la comida era de lo más decepcionante. Cuando le preguntamos a qué la sopa del día era, nos dijeron sopa de tomate. Cuando nos sirvieron, sin explicación recibimos grandes tazones de sopa de puerro. No importa, resultó ser de lo más destacado de la comida. Muy sabrosa. El venado salchicha era buena. El local asada truchas de lago sonaba mucho mejor de lo que sabía. Era alto. Porque acababan vendidos de la trucha que instalamos para pescado y patatas fritas. Debería haber ido al local chippie, donde podía haber encontrado algo mucho más fresco y sabroso. Algunos días son mejores que otros, supongo.

We ended up the the old refectory more by chance and I am so glad we did, it's not a particularly large restaurant, and to be honest has probably seen better days decor wise, but the food, well we had no complaints there, it was first class, all fresh produce and cooked to order, and not overly expensive either, we have paid a lot more in other restaurants for food that was not up to the standard of this gem of a restaurant, definitely worth a visit, the staff were pleasant and helpful, what more can you ask for.

last time we came about three years ago, they was a very nice place to eat unfortunately it has gone down. The person who served the food was untidy and dirty, the floor was full of crumbs and the food was not very nice at all.

If you are near the area, you have to go here! The food is fantastic, service very friendly. We were lucky to stop in while they were having live music, which was an added bonus. Go on a Sunday if possible, you can get a three course meal for 9.95 pounds. We had the pot roast dinner and fish and chips dinner--both were wonderful.

There was live music and the place was packed. Service was very polite and there's a good choice of whiskies.

I don't know how they do it at The Old Rectory but they do it very very indeed. 3 courses for lest than 10 pounds is a gift........... To be honest we've tried this type of place before without a lot of success but we nipped in on Sunday afternoon and from the service we had to the food, you will struggle to find better!I asked for a coffee and the guy went and made me a fresh pot of nice coffee..... great!I had the haggis and Blackpudding starter and 2 decent size chunks came out in a great batter..... (need more dressing to be fair)...... we then had a Sunday roast each and it was perfect and we asked for some extra gravy so all good, we then had pudding and again very good............Would we go back?....... we most definitely are...........Would we recommend it?........ 100%

Had dinner here on a Wednesday night which is live music night. Bar was packed and a good atmosphere. Although it was 15th Feb, the Valentines menu was still on offer - great value at only £9.95 for 3 courses and surprisingly good food. I had a lovely roast pork with trimmings and my wife had the best fish and chips she's had in years (her words). Peter, our Maitre D, Somelier, Barman and Waiter was great. Despite tending a very busy bar he attended to us like we were the only people there!

Ein uriges Restaurant mit einem sehr freundlichem Wirt und wirklich gutem und günstigen Essen.Empfehlendswert ist auch die Life-Musik, die wöchentlich stattfindet.

Have passed through Callander hundreds of times and always wondered what it was like thinking it would probably be for people with money. How wrong it is a very down to earth place with very nice staff. It being a Sunday we went for a lunch the meals we got were home made and plenty of it as well.The bonus was a small band were singing folk songs so we stayed and listened for a while they were very good . Soanybody passing go in and try it out prices are very good and food is very good.

Walked past this place and thought we'd try it out, we're not disappointed. Had starters and mains which were excellent and generous portion sizes, so we were too full for dessert!! The man running the service did an amazing job considering he was on his own, very attentive and to top it off prices were very reasonable. Would recommend.

Piatti tipici scozzesi serviti in porzioni abbondanti e gustose. Lo staff è cortese, il posto è carino e poco affollato. I prezzi sono senza dubbio molto convenienti.

Vanuit het hotel loop je zo naar het centrum van Callander. Je kunt voor de deur parkeren. Het onderhoud van het hotel is matig. De deurmat bij binnenkomst is tot op de draad versleten. Er stonden zakken met was en een campingbedje op de gang. Dit stond er de volgende ochtend nog. Wc-bril zat los en er was alleen een vaste douchekop, dus niet verstelbaar. Ontbijt was wel goed.

Belle ambiance locale pour une table correcte mais sans grande originalité. La patronne et le patron sont adorables et très serviables. Cuisine très simple mais sans défauts majeurs. Il n'y a qu'un vin rouge et il est plutôt médiocre. La gentillesse des restaurateurs garantit néanmoins une bonne soirée.

The old rectory is a very charming guesthouse with a super landlady. They offer great food from local specialities in the bar, and they have a great selection of single malts. A sturdy Scottish breakfast gives you the best start of the day.

We just needed somewhere to eat during a fleeting visit to Callander, and this was handy. Nevertheless it was a good choice and we would be happy to return and sample other items from their delicious menu. If you're looking for haute cuisine, try somewhere else, but if you want a decent meal at a fair price you won't go wrong here.

Excellent steak and ale pie, best I have had out. The salmon was great too. Very reasonable and pleasant surroundings. Friendly helpful staff too.

We were given a very warm welcome by the gentleman on duty who explained that he was very busy but if we would like to order a drink we could look at the menu at our leisure. I am very hard to please and quite a fussy eater. I was able to mix and match from the menu and I was very pleased to receive a home made Macaroni cheese dish with all the sides I asked for. My Husband had a steak and he said it was one of the best he had ever had, All in all a very pleasant experience and the waiter kept checking with us to make sure all was okay. Prices were very reasonable and a very light and area Dining room with atmosphere and Character. Well worth a visit and across the road their is a very nice park where you can walk off your meal.

My husband and I decided to try the Sunday Roast. This was a mistake. In short, my roast was the worst I have ever had. The roast is described as being a choice of roast beef or roast something else (can't remember) with roast potatoes, fresh vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy (like Grandma used to make). Well - the fresh vegetables were carrots, peas & boiled potatoes in their skins. I certainly did not expect to get boiled potatoes as one of the vegetables. The gravy was tasteless and just waterlogged the rest of the meal. It was basically a clear liquid with what appeared to be specs of something brown in it. This certainly bears no resemblance to the gravy that my Grandma used to make. The roast beef was tough & tasteless. However, the roast potatoes, the carrots & peas were quite nice. When asked by the waitress about how our meal was, I advised her of my opinion. No apologies - just that she would say something to the chef. I certainly would not eat here again.

Visited today for family dinner at the restaurant. Varied menu and very reasonably priced, would definitely recommend.

Went here with wife for evening meal and taken through bar to homely area with just 5 tables. Both had pea and ham soup which was tasty. Wife had smoked haddock fishcakes followed by clootie dumpling which she enjoyed very much. I had the rib eye steak which was a lovely cut off meat with hardly any fat through it and knickerbocker glory for dessert. Soft drink and pint off lager took bill near the £50 mark which was good value for money.

Le restaurant est vraiment sympa avec un petit côté bar accueillant. En choisissant bien son jour on peut écouter un concert très local. La cuisine est correct sans plus.

Personnel très sympathique, ambiance conviviale, bonne bière locale et soirées musiques traditionnelles écossaise le mercredi. Pas d'originalité dans la carte mais c'est un pub et nous avons bien mangé: pie et mac and cheese aux proportions importantes !! Le tout pour 20£, c'est très bien !

The staff and food are always consistant but better to book if a group or family are eating out due to the dinning area not having too many tables in it but they do have another room that can cater for larger groups.

Sehr nettes und kleines Restaurant. Optimal geeignet um Mittag- oder Abendessen einzunehmen. Sehr freundliches Personal und gutes Essen. Vor allem die Vorspeisen haben es uns angetan. Die Räume sind einfach und zweckmäßig eingerichtet, aber alles ist schön sauber.

First class service. First Class food. I had the Chicken with Haggis it was fantastic. My son had the Steak Pie he hardly spoke throughout his meal which tells me everything. He only ever shuts up when he is enjoying his food. The only downside to our visit was that the heating in the dining room had been switched off. And as many will know Callander and the Central belt of Scotland can get pretty chilly at night in March.

Food wasn't great I ordered fish (Haddock)and chips, When the fish came out it was a tiny piece of fish in a very thin batter (I suspect they are halving fillets) When we cut into the fish it was rock hard, i was shocked ive never seen a fish so overcooked in my life. We of course told the staff and he changed it. The second lot was better although still half a fillet in thin batter. I again tried it and what do you know Its Not Haddock and its certainly not Cod. I know my fish, as i come from a family or fisherman. What they were trying to pass of as Haddock was either River Cobler or Pollok. Definitley not Haddock. I couldn't wait to get outta of the place so i ate my chips and salad (which were great by the way) and left.I think the place is very out dated and could really use a younger influence.I will Not Return.

Very friendly, clean with good food and choice. It caters for both modern and traditional palates. Wide selection of drinks are available. They have music nights and the cost of meals and drinks is reasonable. Service very good and it retains a pleasant atmosphere. The old Rectory also has accommodation, but we have not stayed because we stay just over the road from it at the Westerton B/B.

This was a very welcoming place to eat. They suffer slightly, I suspect, from having an enormo-pub on the other side of the road, whereas really punters would be better off eating here as I did. I enjoyed the Trossachs Trout and a pudding, and enjoyed talking with the the father of the owner who was running the pub quiz that night. This is a place with genuine Scottish hospitality and one I would have returned to, had I not been walking onward as part of my walking holiday.

Very large portions and very filling at good prices. The staff are very helpful polite and very quick at service.the returant itself is very clean and looked after with a pleasant oldy world feeling just a a wee gem in callender il be going back!

The food is good quality British food at a reasonable price, though beer is limited in selection. The portions are quite large, so you either need to be really hungry, or do not have a starter.
