Afternoon Tea! WOW. It is as good as the pictures. Anna is a lovely host. The setting is beautiful. The food was plentiful and deiicious. We were a party of 18 and everyone was delighted (even the GF guest - she had her own cake stand). Would highly recommend this for a small intimate function or just a gathering of ladies. Great value. Even has parking!

If you're looking for a fabulous, homemade tea for a group (6-50 @ £32 each) then look no further. Decorations are fantastic, food luscious & Anna is delightful. It is in their village hall & Anna sets everything up, decorates the room beautifully & makes all the food herself. She starts you off with lots of pots of tea then leaves you to enjoy yourselves & refill as much as you wish. Lots of photos on her FB page which look too good to be true but then turn out to be absolutely true. Hall is clean comfortable & warm. Parking for several cars (width restricted).

We had a wonderful afternoon tea hen party at the Old Rectory Pop up, the venue itself was decorated beautifully, lovely autumnal colours, the table setting was amazing, very traditional with china, cake stands, every detail considered right down to the china napkin holders. The food was outstanding with a range or dietary requirements catered for, we had vegan, vegetarian, gluten and dairy free as part of our party and everyone had a brilliant spread. Anna was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble, we wanted some Prosecco so Anna was happy for us to bring our own and she provided glasses. Would recommend this lovely pop up if you are looking for somewhere to host a gathering.

We had a wonderful afternoon tea here yesterday, for a small family get together. I had luckily stumbled across this beautiful setting, from google searching location options, roughly at a half way point. Anna was so helpful and accommodating from the first enquiry, to booking and on the day itself. On probably the hottest day of the year so far, the venue was lovely, cool, bright and airy. The attention to detail, and such care was taken to ensure guests feel comfortable, sets this afternoon tea apart from anywhere else, in my opinion. We all would definitely visit again! Such an amazing time, thank you Anna.

We came to the old rectory pop up tea room for a very special baby shower with family and friends. Anna had transformed the village hall into a beautiful setting with bunting, wall paintings, plants, candles and flowers. So much attention to detail. The food for our afternoon tea/late lunch was gorgeous. Delicious, fresh, hand made and really scrummy - enjoyed by us all. There was plenty of food left over and we all took a goodie bag home (provided by Anna). Anna was extremely helpful throughout the whole experience, from arranging payments to checking in to make sure we had everything we needed from start to finish. There was music playing and she even helped us put some simple decorations up. We took some of our own but the venue was so tastefully decorated that we didn’t even need ours! I would highly recommend the old rectory - for a baby shower or another special occasion. We will certainly be back for others in the future. Thank you Anna. You really made Holly’s day so special. :-)

I was looking for somewhere special for an afternoon tea to celebrate my mum’s 90th birthday and couldn’t have found anywhere better. The room was beautifully decorated with flowers, plants, pictures and a chaise lounge. The table looked amazing with lovely traditional china, and there was a choice of different colour ways. Anna was so helpful and accommodating in meeting different dietary requirements and I was very touched at her making items appealing to my mum’s small appetite, including sandwich fillings that she likes. The food was wonderful and very much enjoyed! Anna’s attention to detail included asking what type of background music we would like. There was reserved parking too and anyone with mobility difficulties can be dropped off right outside the entrance door. We had such a special afternoon and as my mum said afterwards, “it was just perfect”. Thank you Anna

Afternoon tea in one of the most beautiful villages in Britain - what's not to like? In planning a special event for my mum's 85th birthday, Anna couldn't have been more helpful. As soon as I mentioned my mum being diabetic, Anna proposed a menu specifically aimed at my mum; she even went as far as finding and making a sugar-free pavlova and testing it ahead of our booking. With both my parents having difficulty walking, it especially helped that private parking was available adjacent to the venue. The venue is the village hall which Anna decorates with her own paintings on the walls. The tables were beautifully decorated with proper, china plates, cups and saucers, etc. Tea from china teapots tastes so much better from other ways of brewing tea. The food was plentiful and delicious - in fact slightly too much, resulting in doggie bags. The chaise longue became a place to take some memorable and silly photos of mum, dad and 60 year old 'kids'. Mum looked radiant on this, her special day.

We were looking on the internet for venues to which we could invite a group of old friends to share with us our Diamond Wedding anniversary. One of the couples in the group had already given us all a great lunch on their own Diamond Wedding a few months earlier, so we decided on an Afternoon Tea, and the Old Rectory Tea Room literally just Popped Up in our searches. The reviews were all so positive that a more cynical couple could have been suspicious, but the menu sounded superb and we decided to get in touch to book. The date we wanted was free, and Anna, the lady who runs the tearoom, was totally unfazed by the fact that we couldn't give her exact numbers - one of the group was not well and might not be able to come, and another might have to work - nor by the fact that one person has a total intolerance of anything containing sugar. "No problem, I'll do him extra savoury stuff, and give you boxes to pack teas to take home for anyone who can't turn up" was the gist of the response! On the day, some of us had trouble following the comprehensive instructions provided on how to find the venue (perhaps a mention of the Village Hall might have helped) but on arrival we found a very heavily laden table of goodies awaiting us. What made this Afternoon Tea so special was the inclusion of so many savoury items instead of just the few curling sandwiches, scones and fancies one usually gets - all of which were present in vast quantities as well as the sausage rolls, filled ciabatas, pork pies etc. - a truly wonderful selection. When faced with buffet-style meals such as this I suffer a strong compulsion to try at least one of every item on the table, and I think I succeeded, but I still felt stuffed to the gills the next morning! What's more, Anna, our delightful host, provuded boxes at the end so that everyone could take home a selection of the "left-overs" to enjoy later. We have never experienced an Afternoon Tea as good as this one, It is perhaps a little more expensive that some other local offerings, but one gets so much more for the price that it is worth every penny, especially for a special occation like ours. Thanks, Anna!

Perfect for a private afternoon tea for a special occasion. The food and ambience are excellent. Our party ordered the egg and the chicken sandwich fillings - both were very good. I booked The Old Rectory Tea Room in Castle Combe for a double birthday celebration. My husband & I, along with two friends arrived Friday lunchtime and were greeted by Anna who was very welcoming and friendly. The 500 year old Tea Room is a characterful building in a fantastic location where the inside is much larger than it appears from the front. It is a real treasure trove that transports you into another world, where a warm and welcoming fire was burning on this chilly day in January.A large tea menu means you can choose one which suits your taste and it is served in a china tea pot with bone china cups and saucers. Lovely freshly made sandwiches and a wide variety of cakes and other savouries, beautiful scones with jam and cream and Welsh teacakes all displayed on afternoon tea stands. There was more than enough to eat, although we did manage most of it as it was all so delicious. Anna had made a birthday cake with a candle atop for the two gents who were celebrating their birthday’s and wrapped it for us to take home and enjoy later as we were so full.Anna was attentive; at the same time giving us plenty of privacy, presenting us with a little bell to call her when we wanted our gooseberry crumble warmed and served or found ourselves in need of anything else.We took our own ‘bubbles’, Anna happily provided us with the glassware. It was a lovely experience & I'd definitely recommend this as a good place to go, you will need to make a reservation ahead of your arrival as Anna does not accept walk in guests owing to everything being made fresh that morning.Charming & FABULOUS!!!

Anna, the owner of the Old Rectory Tea Room looked after us brilliantly. You have to book and it was like having our own private tearoom. Nothing was too much trouble. In the heart of Castle Combe, a delicious tea was made specially for us with some of the best scones you're likely to find anywhere in the land. We took a bottle of champagne with us and, if it had been chilly, the wood burner was all ready to light. For rickety back purposes I had booked the sofa by the fire and it was very cosy and tea was pretty scrumptious.

Visited on September 24 while staying at The Gates in Castle Combe. What a wonderful private tea service. The food, ambiance and hospitality were outstanding. It was our only official "tea" while we were in England and it did not disappoint. The shop is only open by reservation so book ahead. Totally worth it.

My husband and both of our mothers stopped off in Castle Combe to see the beautiful town and have afternoon tea on our way to Bath and then Devon. This Old Rectory Tearoom and specifically Anna Roberts (the owner) provided one of the best experiences of our England vacation. The food was so delicious and Anna was so welcoming and hospitable! We could not have enjoyed ourselves anymore on this afternoon! I highly recommend this place and we will return again someday!

Anna is the loveliest host and made us feel so welcome and so spoilt for our afternoon tea. The tearoom decor is just beautiful with so many interesting pictures and ornaments to look at; which makes for a really lovely atmosphere in which to enjoy a delicious feast! Every food item was baked to perfection and the scones were some of the best I've ever eaten! The quality of the food and the service provided by Anna was exceptional and we couldn't have had a more enjoyable afternoon spent in Castle Combe. Highly recommended!

We had the most wonderful time at Anna‘s tea room in Castle Combe. Not only was the food mouth watering, but the setting was just to die for! Anna was so kind and attentive to our needs. Everything was perfectly portioned and we were theoretically allowed to take the leftover cake home! Every single food item was delicious, especially her buttery scones. When we were finished, we were told about the history of the house and her family and looked at various books she had made about it. She bakes her goods with home layed eggs which we discovered when getting a tour of her lovely garden. All in all an absolutely recommendation worthy experience. The price was really worth it!

The Old Rectory Tearoom is an absolute must for anyone who is planning on visiting Castle Combe! Anna, artist and baker extraordinaire, presented us with the most beautiful and delicious High Tea that we have ever had. From the tasty finger sandwiches to the sweet and savory tarts and the scones with clotted cream and fresh strawberries - everything was absolutely to die for. The melt-in-your-mouth apple crumble with cream was actually the best I ever had! The tearoom itself is decorated with the most lovely china and the whole atmosphere is warm and relaxing. So even if you have no plans on visiting Castle Combe, it might be time to make some to enjoy Anna's heavenly treats. PS: Make sure to reserve your spot ahead of time.

We were warmly welcomed into the tearoom by Anna and were met with a table laden with the most beautiful spread of artistically arranged food I have ever seen. In addition to be lovely to look at, the food was absolutely marvelous to eat. Our group was so quiet other than the moans and groans of satisfaction because we were just devouring all the wonderful tastes. We don't have anything like this in America. Castle Combe was one of my favorite places on our trip. If you love period films and want the experience of stepping back in time and being part of a bygone era of village life, Castle Combe and the Old Rectory Tearoom should be on your To-Do list. 600 years (and more) of history are palpable in this beautiful place. I felt honored to be invited into Anna's tearoom and listen to her tell stories of her life here.

We had a private luncheon for 20 Overseas visitors with a variety of dietary requirements. This was catered for extremely well. Anna is a generous host, giving a talk on village life in general and when filming is taking place. An idilic setting for a quintessential English tea room. The interior decorating is sympathetic to the building and gives a sense you are having high tea in her home. I would strongly recommend anyone visiting Castle Combe to allow time to enjoy this gem of a tea room.

I booked this venue as a surprise for my Hubbys 50th with all his family. Anna was very helpful during this whole process, working around some dietary requirements. Very good value for money, there were 13 of us we had the place to ourselves for a couple of hours which was more than enough. The food was amazing lots of choices both savoury and sweet, even choices of tea. The younger ones played with the guinea pigs and game of ping pong in the garden. Overall a great experience, Anna has nailed being a great host and would happily recommend to anyone.

Proper English afternoon tea in cosy evocative surroundings. Castle Combe may be the prettiest village in England but this afternoon tea is definitely up there with the best in the UK. Anna Roberts serves up an afternoon tea that Miss Marple would thoroughly approve of. I would highly recommend this as a must do activity in Castle Combe, particularly for guests who want to do something quintessentially English.

The tearoom is located in the middle of beautiful Castle Combe so this is a perfect destination for special day out, a walk around the lovely village then a super afternoon tea at the Old Rectory Tearoom. We were welcomed very warmly by Anna and got to sit in front of the wood fire burner for a bit while she set up our table. What we got was a very personalised meal cooked just for my family! It was good to see a limited menu - usually a good sign for a restaurant but unfortunately we were rather disappointed. The menu looked good with a range of mainly fish dishes (hence Bait and Plate) but it didn't quite work for us. Monkfish scampi looked good but the taste of the fish was rather overpowered by the coating. Similarly salt and pepper squid taste overpowered by the coating and overcooked (or maybe old oil?). Empanadas tasted nice but frankly the filling could have been anything - no taste of the advertised swordfish. We did enjoy the samphire side and the affogato dessert. We would really like to be able to support this innovative restaurant which has a nice ambience, great decor and great location - but perhaps you are over-complicating good ingredients? Drink prices we found very reasonable.

We have been to eat here many time's over the years, which have been good, this time was not a good experience, Friday 18th October, 4.30pm . The place was not busy when arrived, got seated, ordered food, when food came, it looked good but all was lukewarm, loaded chips very salty so didn’t eat all, tried to get waiting staff attention with no joy staff members standing together chatting(male staff) except for two young girls who seemed to be doing all the work. We did not get checked on which is not good, problem with food could have been corrected. Tips: Most people will be happy to wait an extra 15 mins to have hot food. Staff need to work as team. Check on your customers.

Let down by the fact that they couldn't not find out booking with deposit which we had confirmation of and were able to show them. Took too long trying to sort this rather than seating us when they clearly had the space. Were friendly enough. Food was good. Water jugs were grubby. Toilet was a little grubby. Would go back.
