Small hotel. Room very clean and with a new bathroom. Every effort is made here to please the customer. Indian food was included in half board - very tasty and really recommended. We were here with a large family (9 people) and everyone enjoyed the food very much, even though I don't really like Indian food.

The hotel cancelled on us a day before we had booked; first they said "emergency issue" via text message, then they said "shortage of rooms." Absolute no go, don't book!

Fantastic Indian food. 3rd time we have had a takeaway from here, been brilliant each time. We have been living in Amesbury for 8 years and we had given up trying to find a good takeaway until we tried here.

I would avoid this hotel. It's a shame because it was obviously a lovely hotel at some point. For instance the food hygiene rating is now a 4, not the advertises 5. When you first walk in, the room appears clean but you can soon see where the cleaning has been skipped. There was make up on one of my pillows and marks from where something had been spilled and not cleaned up. There was loud music being played til late at night from downstairs. My welcome wasn't very professional, I was quietly shown to my room without much conversation or instruction. There was no food or any advice on where to get food from locally. No breakfast included at all or any advice on where to bet breakfast locally. There was no power from the middle of the night until 8 am and this also meant that there was no hot water and the emergency light was on in my room from the early hours of the morning. There was no hand soap in the bathroom. The milk for the hot drinks was curdled and the hot drinks supply was unclean and substandard. I think the worst thing was in the morning when I tried to leave the hotel only to find the front doors were locked and I was trapped in the hotel for 15 minutes, shouting for help. I called the out of hours assistance number twice and the hotel twice with no answer. There was no staff to be found anywhere. This made me late for a meeting I had travelled 3.5 hours for! To get out of the hotel, I had to find a key in a bowl of keys that had been left at the bottom of the stairs (there are keys for every room in a bowl at the bottom of the stairs-free for everyone to have access to). Then I had to go through every single key to get out! Terrible terrible customer service. Stay away.

A very pleasant village and a decent overnight stay on the way from Salisberry to Bath in terms of value for money. We were offered a comfortable room with a bathtub and shower, spacious and with a beautiful view.

Rooms are fine and a good price. Food is great. The guys running the place are clueless though. Really disorganized. Booked months in advance, but phoned up the day before to double check as I wasn't convinced they had actually booked me a room. The reassured me the booking was in place. Turned up and no booking. Waiter in the restaurant took an hour to bring us popadoms and 45 minutes to take our order and there was only one one other group in the restaurant.

Bland, boring pub. Lovely old Victorian building but lacks any personality and character when you're inside. Nowhere nice to sit outside as it's surrounded in tarmac.

Not what we expected as menu's showed English meals but it was only Indian. Could not fault them on anything from the time we got there to the time we left.

Erratic table service....We were sat for ten minutes, when staff took the order for popadoms instead of drink orders first. Also after thirty minutes another table got their mains before us. They came in after us... the table was laid with mats halfwaybewteen our starters and mains... our starters were cooked but was so crispy my husband could not eat it .... also the serving bowls with hot food were cold and the plates too This should all be heated, putting hot food on cold plates makes the food go cold... canteen comes to mind . This is appalling service, although the food was very tasty....the staff and restuarant skills needed to be addressed .

Came for Sunday lunch and, whilst we cannot fault the food, one member of wait staff had absolutely no idea what he was doing. We ordered two White Wine spritzers, one made with lemonade and one made with soda. He first said that there was no soda, then brought us two full glasses of wine and a separate glass of lemonade. In fact, he didn't seem to know much about anything and he seemed to be swapped pretty quickly for a different server (who was excellent). We ordered roast pork and crackling, which was amazing. The vegetables served with it were exceptional although, we asked for some apple sauce to go with our pork and was brought out a thimble sized, tiny little dish of it, which was only just enough for one person, not three. Having said all of that, I would highly recommend this place for anyone wanting a hearty Sunday roast. Restaurant area needs updating/redecorating, and with a bit more training for the waiters and not so stingy on the sauces, then they will have nailed it!

Late August, mid-week lunch with friends. The place wasn’t busy but we were very well looked after. Good Camden Pale Ale and a couple of glasses of Pinot rosé. Drinks all about £4 and good value. We had four different main courses about £11 or £12 each. Lunch (main plus drinks) for four came to just £70 plus service and we considered this very good value. The food was universally appreciated. The place is in transition to new ownership and we hope they maintain the efficiency and good quality. And full marks to Chloe, our server.

Not the best experience. We headed here after a walk in the area. First impressions were good as the pub is nicely decorated. Inside it was pretty quiet with just a few drinkers inside. Struggled to get attention from the staff behind the bar who were talking. When they did come over we checked they were doing food that day. They explained they were a chef down and had two tables booked in. We thought that was ok as there wasn’t anyone else there but no they couldn’t help. We asked if they could do sandwiches etc and could order quickly and the barmaid said she would check but seemed reluctant to enter the kitchen. The OH said he was surprised such a quiet pub wasn’t keen to serve paying customers, this just got the local drinkers riled. Eventually one of the other tables turned up which the barmaid seemed relieved by as it gave her the excuse they couldn’t serve us now. Then another regular diner (also not booked) turned up, she clearly wanted to serve him so then agreed they could take orders and would “fit us in”. Of course that meant the regular diner got served quickly and ours was 40 minutes late. We didn’t feel good about eating there. Great that a community rescued their pub but maybe they should clearly state that they don’t like drop in visitors .

Best pub food in the area - this is a hidden gem and one not to be missed. Classy bar and restaurant and a great outdoor space too. Goos choice of beers and wines but the food is the winner here. They have rooms but we didn’t stay but im sure they also must be of high quality

Staff at the hotel were very welcoming, friendly and very helpful. It is under new ownership(since Feb 2021) and they entire place has been revamped. Room was spacious and comfortable but only a 4ft 6in bed. They have a lovely menu but unfortunately when we stayed they were a chef down so the kitchen was closed Monday and Tuesday to allow their other chef much needed days off. However Tracy provided us with a selection of Takeaway menus that would deliver to the hotel and she was happy to provide guests with crockery and cutlery, What excellent service. She also offered suggestions of where we could go out to eat locally. We chose to stay in our first night and enjoyed an excellent Chinese delivered from the village. If we are ever in the area again I'm sure we will stay again.

Had a wonderful meal yesterday, Shared platter to start- fresh, crispy and so tasty. 'Special' prawn & chicken curry was divine, again fresh tasty and beautiful flatbread. My husband had the best steak he's eaten in a long time. Staff were so friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back. Vicki and Stephen.

Ordered take out the first in a while but have always chosen Ganges. I contemplated trying a different curry house but stuck with what we knew. However, I was a little underwhelmed with the meal. Masala sauce was runny the chicken pieces where smaller than ever, rice portion smaller, Bombay aloo no tomatoes in it but did have a nice flavour. 2 Nan bread were ok, They forgot to put in the popadom we ordered. This meal was £25 before 10% collection discount, where by last year we would have paid £19 and would have got bigger portions on sundries plus we always got a free popadom, salad with lemon and mint yoghurt sauce thrown in. Overall the meal was average, was edible but nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, my next take out curry will not be from Ganges as for me they have lost that little special touch they used to have. Update 23/11/24 - after a year of not going to ganges we decided to give it another go and have to say we were equally disappointed very bland runny masala sauce, the bombay had some nice spice but this has sealed the deal for me we won't be going back. I have added a photo and video of the latest meal.
