Ocean City Chinese Restaurant in Wiltshire

ordered this chinese loads of times and usually is great the last 5 times the chips arent cooked and are rock hard, the sweet and sour sauce tastes like salt and oil and the chowmein never has any flavour. Will not be returning here.

I’d give it a zero score if I could! I ordered a collection as they couldn’t deliver to my postcode. So my husband drove all the way there to collect it. Brought it home, and then found out they messed up my order. When my husband placed the order over the phone, he queried a dish with the staff as we’re not too familiar with extensive list of dishes on the menu and I didn’t want pork in my food as I don’t eat it. But I was sent a dish with pork in it! I don’t eat pork so couldn’t just grin and bear it. I was livid as I was hungry and couldn’t just pick out the pork pieces. My husband called the restaurant to tell them they messed up the order, but we were left shocked with the argumentative guy on the other end of the phone. He denied there had been a mistake and had the audacity to challenge my husband and argue and gave excuses. He wasn’t even the guy who took the order as it was a woman! He kept arguing and saying there was no mistake and my husband should have been more specific even though my husband HAD been specific. He was taking zero accountability. All I wanted as a customer was a sympathetic apology and a refund as we’re all human and mistakes happen. But he refused to give me a refund!! After several minutes arguing, the guy in the takeaway hung up on my husband! I then called him back and requested to speak to the manager. The guy claimed he was the manager and spent several minutes arguing again. He then put me on hold and I could hear him speaking to who I believe was the manager (despite him saying he was the manager). He offered to refund the one dish as long as I could go to the takeaway the next day to get a cash refund as they couldn’t return the money to my card. Even though I paid by card!! I found the entire phone call experience traumatising. I was already suffering with anxiety and he tipped me over the edge with his nasty, rude, challenging behaviour. I didn’t get my cash refund in the end as I didn’t want to see that place again. I threw my meal in the bin as it had pork in it and I don’t eat pork, and my husband complained that his meal was the worst Chinese he’d ever had. We will never be ordering from here again, and I’ll be making sure all my friends and family stay well away. I would strongly recommend you all stay away, unless you don’t mind receiving a random meal as your order with a no refund policy!

I left a rather negative review last year but went back a few months ago and I have to say that the quality is now back to where it used to be! It's now consistently good, really tasty with generous portions. The staff have always been nice too! Glad to be back to the best Chinese takeaway in the area....!

Being new to Devizes, this was the third Chinese we've tried and it was by far the best. I ordered and paid on line and didn't have long to wait. They have a number of dishes which other Chinese takeaways don't have, the food was hot and very tasty.

I dont really know what it is but ive tired the food once and it was lovely but eversince then everytime i find myself or my partner want a chinese it always seems to be closed.

Excellent food and prompt delivery service !

This place is located next to an Indian restaurant in Devizes on Park Street. Nice Chinese food with good authentic flavours. I loved the satay chicken and the sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style. The delivery is always fast and the food is always hot on arriving. You get free delivery when you spend over a certain amount of money. This place is only small so take out only.

Had better, not sure on the oil they use here. Edible but won't be going back as better around.

Lovely Chinese have used ocean city for over 20 years

Read the good reviews and decided to give you a try. Sorry to say but it was worst Chinese we have ever eaten. The food was bland, pancake rolls were soggy and greasy and fell apart when picked up. All the food had an overpowering undescribeable twang, even the dog wouldn't touch it!! A complete waste of money.

Always received nice friendly service and the food is the best in town.

We have been going to this Chinese Takeaway for years and always loved it - but lately things have changed. Don't know why exactly but the prices are up and the quality is DOWN. My chicken curry tasted good - but there was hardly any chicken there! The chicken curry used to be in generous portions and really good but judging on the last visit, we won't be going back! We paid £25.00 for 2 meals and wouldn't mind if the portions were good but I'm afraid not.....

I've never had bad food from here and this time was no different. I would have tipped the 7 foot tall delivery lad but having already paid £3.50 delivery for an order of £34 and a trip of just 0.8 miles. I almost walked there to save the £3.50!

Tried for first time. Delivery nearly half hour later than they said. Husband said chicken balls no different to chicken nuggets. My beef chow mein was tasteless and very disappointing. On the upside food was hot

Absolutely the best Chinese I’ve had in Wiltshire in 7 years and great service too.

Made a delivery order which I was told would be 30 mins got the delivery 70mins later with no prawn crackers. Very unhappy as this was our favourite Chinese!

Ordered sweet and sour, Kung po chilli chicken and Cantonese chicken all three meals tasted the same, and were not written on , so had no idea who's meal was who's! Very bland all of them, won't be going there again

We ordered Thai Chicken and Thai style noodles. These were nothing more than chicken with some sweet chilli sauce and noodles with sweet chilli sauce (you know, the cheap kind you buy from Tesco's). We also had sesame chicken which was a hoi sin style sauce with some sesame seeds dropped on top, certainly not what sesame chicken should be. The prawn crackers felt like they were days old and the amount of grease on my spring rolls was just unbelievable. Safe to say, we will not be going back.

We have just moved to Devizes, and this was our first visit to Ocean City. We will have to test the others. We have ben come from the USA, and have lots of experience with a large number of Chinese takeaways, so our view may be over-expectation. Food was reasonable, but nothing exceptional. It looks like a converted fish & chips shop, with nothing much done to give it any sense of a Chinese establishment. The “front of house” is drab, undecorated, and poorly lit. Perhaps the focus is more on delivery rather than pick-up in store. I did not see anyone with any semblance to being Chinese, but perhaps they were deep in the kitchen. I had the impression that it is just a totally white,British enterprise, just using a Chinese menu.The shredded beef dish was especially poor: just worm-like battered pieces, with not much evidence of beef. Given its expansionist name, iI was expecting something super-Chinese, but it was like any other hole-in-the-wall. Palatable enough, though..We will not be rushing back. Time to try the others. They need to upgrade the front of the establishment, with some lighter colours, Chinese decor, and perhaps some comfy seating for those who are waiting.better lighting would be a good start.

Best Chinese in town does get busy on Saturdays due to the food being so good however definitely worth the wait !

The only good thing I can say is that the food was delivered on time by a very pleasant delivery driver. I havent contacted the takeaway directly as the standard of food sent out was so bad it could not of been an error. Soggy undercooked spring rolls, I mean hardly cooked and very greasy. The egg fried rice was tepid and the chicken dishes ordered were really past their sell by date. I mean you could smell the chicken was off as soon, as the containers were open. This takeaway used to be the best around here.

Did not hate it not too bad at all

First time using Ocean City after 2 or 3 bad meals from the market place. Unbelieveable speedy delivery and thoroughly enjoyed our food. Will definitely be reordering.

Very bland chicken fried rice, tasted and looked under cooked, I like my fried rice to look and taste like its been fried not microwaved. Chicken satays under cooked, not very good quality chicken and tasteless. Chips were soggy. Chicken balls were nice. Pork ribs were OK but bland. The whole meal was a little disappointing, bland and boring, half of the meal went in the bin.

Quick and easy to order and collect

Cold and disgusting food. Disappointing and rude service and waste of £100 family treat which went in the bin as it took them six hours to send it all and still get it wrong. We read some other reviews and it seems it is common knowledge that ocean city Chinese are very poor quality and I advise you to order food elsewhere. Strongly. Sincerely.

We are new to the area and decided to try this place out based on its reviews. How disappointed we were The food was bland, tasteless and greasy. The prawn crackers tasted like they were cooked in old burnt fat. The black bean sauce in my main meal was a gelatinous goop. I could go on but I won’t Needless to say we won’t be coming back

Takeaway heaven - you order with changes and nothing is too much trouble and the food is great! Ordering does not take long and we ordered via telephone which was great!

It's a lot of years since I've been into this Takeway and I'm pleased to say it hasn't changed a bit. Food is superb (we are huge fans of their curry). Just a point regarding the photo's on here. Ocean City is a Takeaway it's not a restaurant, so the photo's that have been published aren't correct.

Visited here after reading all the the excellent reviews, we were not disappointed. Service was very quick, food piping hot, very tasty. Highly recommend. It’s difficult to find a decent Chinese takeaway and we are usually left feeling disappointed, not this time.

Had an enjoyable dinner outing at this restaurant. Had simple dishes of sweet sour pork, lemon chicken and taufu. Was a nice break from the usual ozzie meals. Was tasty.

Tried their set meals,all of which are good value but find that sometimes the mushrooms are still cold in the middle and beef is very chewy.Overall it’s good value for the money.

Highly recommend the King Prawn Chow Mein, Special Fried Rice, Meaty Spring Rolls (they are massive) Pork in Black Bean Sauce, Egg Fried Rice, Crispy Seaweed etc. I was very surprised how when we back home we didn’t need to heat anything up!

Massive fan of Ocean City. My favourite menu options are egg fried rice, king prawn curry, crispy sea weed and prawn toast. I wish they had a takeaway shop in Swindon (this takeaway along with another Chinese in Devizes is the only thing I miss about not living in Devizes anymore) Staff are always friendly and welcoming, I just wish Swindon had a half decent Chinese takeaway!

This takeaway is by far the best in Devizes for authentic Chinese cuisine to take away. The food has never disappointed and the rapidity of the processed order is incredible. Having placed an order by telephone the meal for five was ready in twenty five minutes! The counter staff are friendly and are always polite and efficiently take your order. All orders come with free prawn crackers. This very small venue seems to thrive in spite of its main competition being across the road; testament to the loyalty of its patrons which would heartily recommend the quality food, who return time and time again. Try the spring rolls-you'll not be disappointed.

we regularly use this takeaway, it serves good freshly cooked food in reusable containers, i like the fact that we can order by telephone and pay on collection which is usually about fifteen minutes.

Service very good and quick.My Husbands King prawn curry and fried rice was excellent. I think maybe I made the wrong choice, the chips were disgusting all small bits and not edible, the chicken curry was very disappointing, taste of curry sauce was lovely, but I think the chicken was just dropped in the sauce as it was tasteless.

A very pleasent takeaway service. They awnswer the phone quickly and politly when ordering. The food is of a high qualty and is hot when collected. This is one of the better chinese restraunts in the area.

Lovely food every time!! Whenever we go for a chinese takeaway we always go to Ocean City. We live six miles away from Devizes but def worth driving the extra miles :)The kids love it, my husband loves it..... We all love it!!!!

All nice fresh dishes authentic taste. Speedy service, with a smile I ring in order and it is ready by the time I go to pick up 10 mins later. Always busy which is a good sign.

I have regularly had takeaways from here over many years and not once have I ever had a reason to complain. If you ring and pre-order you never have to wait more than a couple of minutes. Their crisp duck and pancakes are my favourite but all of their dishes are great.

A friend said this was the best Chinese in Devizes so thought I'd give it a try. Ordered sweet n sour chicken Hong Kong style with added chillies. 3 minutes later the meal came out. Thought this was a little bit weird. Opened it up at home and no added chillies, raw green peppers, hardly any onion and the chicken was as chewy as rotten sock. On a a plus the egg fried rice was nice and tasty but doesn't count for much when the main part of the meal was well below par. Not a fan, won't be going back and not recommending to any of my enemies.

There are five Chinese takeaway restaurants in town here, you might think that level of competition would encourage them to offer good food when there is so much choice of potential restaurants for the prospective customer.We were setting up the beer festival nearby and by the time we had completed the job, it was suggested we have a Chinese meal before we all went home for the night. Ocean City was the closest to the site, so two of us walked across to order the food for the four of us. Of the five in town, this is the only one I had never bought food from, so I was keen to see what it was like.I ordered chicken with green peppers in black bean sauce, a favourite meal of mine, along with their special fried rice. This cost me a shade under £9 so I was hoping it would live up to the price tag.Unfortunately, it was awful. Black bean sauce should be thick and unctious, this was like a thin, watered down gravy and was loaded with salt. The sauce was so thin, you could see oil floating in it. The chicken was just about cooked but the five or six pieces I had were fatty, and the green pepper was as good as raw. The special fried rice, of which I have to admit, there was plenty, again, was so salty as to render it almost inedible, but after searching for a few minutes, I did manage to uncover a couple of small shrimps and some minute pieces of chicken that were well concealed within the rice.I left most of mine, and ate a sandwich that I had left over from lunchtime, as did the other guys who also pronounced their meal as being "rubbish". Truly awful, if there was a facilty to award this place "no stars", then I would have done so
