Chan Cottage in Wiltshire

3 very hungry walkers stopped at the Chan Cottage for late supper. Although they were super busy (Saturday night) we ordered 3 chow mein, (1 singapore, 1 special and 1 chicken). We didn’t have to wait long for the food to arrived. Clearly freshly cooked, piping hot. Loads of chicken, meat, prawns, veg. Singapore had a great amount of spice. And a bag of prawn crackers on the house. 3 empty plates a very short time later. Would absolutely go back again. Great food, friendly and helpful service and very reasonably priced.

It was easy to order and pay on line. As we were on holiday a few miles away, we arrived early to pick it up and they got it ready as soon as we arrived. Great service and great food at a reasonable price.

We have a takeaway from Chan Cottage most weekends and it’s always good but this week was on another level! Everything tasted really fresh and we could not fault it.

Ordered and collected, everything was really tasty, best Chinese food I've had in years! Quick and easy to order, paid over the phone and was ready when I turned up to collect at the agreed time.

Really well prepared Chinese food and quick efficient service. Well worth trying. Delivery service is more or less limited to the town.

Great take away, very obliging, delicious and traditional. Had a meal for four, huge portions and good value.

We used to order a lot from here and then they got our order messed up a lot and we stopped ordering. Decided to try again tonight as food quite tasty. Anyways our door number messed up so had to wait another 30 mins and then a vegetarian dish that was ordered had chicken, beef and prawns init. Not happy at all. Called and the lady apologised but then said well I did call back the order!! (Yes u did and I confirmed veg noodles) so annoyed now I gotta wait 7days for a dish to be refunded. Not happy,

they produced some good dishes but some rather tired. i will try again to see if they were having a bad night.

This isn’t the best place to go for a Chinese meal it’s probably the worst in Devizes to be fair. Service and food never has stood out amongst their competitors unfortunately.

Ordered Szechuan Chicken; fresh veg and nice and spicy, and enough for two meals. Looking forward to trying out their other dishes.

The food I had was second to none. But the restaurant is a let down. But I am looking forward to another take away yum yum!

placed an order at 6:45 pm and was told 40 minutes, after an hour i called to see if there was a problem and the response was the driver left ages ago! 15 minutes later the food arrived and the driver said he had only just got the order! The food was good but the service needs to sharpened up. I contacted them after we had eaten and the person on the other end of the phone offered £10 of the next meal but I don't think that will be happening again there are plenty of other Chinese take aways in town!

Only ever used the ring up and delivery service, which is fast and friendly. Never had to wait longer than 30 minutes. Good sized portions.

The best Chinese in Devizes in my view. A great range at reasonable prices. The food is always hot. Staff are friendly and their phone never stops ringing. Need i say more!!

Our normal takeaway was closed! So we tried the Chan cottage. The service was great. The food was prepared in super quick time and was delicious. Needless to say the Chan Cottage is now our preferred takeaway.

Fácilmente estacionados al otro lado de la carretera para pedir nuestra comida. Tuve gambas delicioso arroz frito con king porción de setas y mi pareja tenía dulce amarga gambas n king. La comida era excelente - el mejor plato chino que he tenido en mucho tiempo, pero mi compañero dijo que su salsa era un poco soso pero todo lo demás estuvo genial! El servicio era amable y eficiente, además de que no tuvimos que esperar mucho tiempo. Gratis pan de gambas! Sin duda lo recomiendo. Lo más seguro es que la próxima vez que estamos en la zona. Hemos recogido su menú a pedidos por teléfono la próxima vez para que nuestro tiempo de espera aún menos.

Me dio este lugar peculiar poco una crítica favorable hace un año.

Después de un largo día en el barco estrechas que necesitábamos comida. Era demasiado tarde para la comida en el pub donde habíamos atracado, pero una casita para llevar entregada por Chan fue recomendado. No nos decepcionó. Comida tradicional china, rollitos de pancake; s/costillas amarga; s/s de cerdo, galletas saladas, huevo frito, etc. entrega de arroz caliente en 40 minutos por una señora encantadora. La comida era magnífica: deseo que vivían más cerca de Devizes, así que podíamos usar Chan Casita regularmente

Had a takeaway from here last week. Delivery was relatively quick. The food was ok, not great but not bad. On balance I probably would not use them again. This is mainly because I have since found a better Chinese takeaway

I base a Chinese on a portion of Singapore noodles, as a benchmark this is one of the best I have had. There is a great selection in Devizes but this Chinese happens to pip the post, consistent and always delivers on time.

We ordered egg fried rice (stodgy), Singapore chow mein (average),chips (average) and mushroom curry (sauce was like dishwater and had no taste). Would not order from there again.

We live out in the sticks about 10 minutes from Devizes and this is perfect for a lazy night in with food delivered. There is a big range of Chinese food available at a reasonable price and delivery is quick and efficient. We only use Chan Cottage for takeaways, but the staff on the phone are really friendly and helpful. What more can you ask?

A great menu that uses fresh ingredients, lots of garlic and is accurate to the menu description. The food is not smothered in MSG like most of the other Chines takeaways in Devizes. Good delivery service to local area. A great family business.

Unfortunately there isn't an in between choice between average and very good as I would say Chan Cottage is above average but not quite very good. Thus good.I only get take away from here, but the food is nice and they do some English dishes for my husband who doesn't eat Chinese.They do deliver.

If I was reviewing Chan Cottage as a restaurant I would give 3 stars because although service and food are excellent, I would consider Chan Cottage to be more of a friendly Chinese Dinner than a restaurant. I use Chan Cottage for take away's and delivered meals and for this reason I have given five stars. Its hard to see how any improvements can be made because service , delivery & food are always perfect.

One of the best takeaways in Devizes, friendly owner and fast service easy access centre of town, it does not know if it is a takeaway or restaurant, having said that the food is very good

Not to our tastes, we did not think the food was authentic and it is more like a small cafe than a Chinese restaurant. We would not return for Chinese, but there English Breakfast is very good.

Brilliant service, family run business, clean and tidy outlook, generous portions, well cooked meals.The main lady of the place is very sociable, the children in training are quite polite and well mannered and do a good job. I enjoyed a Chinese meal from here almost every week I was in Devizes.

So we thought we could do with a "Chinese" after a long day locking up the Caen Hill flight. This seemed to fit the bill and as we were not in a mood for menu gazing and wandering, we walked straight in to what is clearly a take-away that can manage a table in the corner if you want. We were too tired to decline, especially as the lady behind the counter was so pleased to see us and helpful, offering us two paper table cloths if we wanted and there was not the ubiquitous television blaring. The drinks on offer were limited to red wine, white wine (both unspecified as to what exactly) or Chinese beer. Fortunately, the latter was what we wanted and it arrived cold. There was plenty of entertainment watching customers of the take away come and go and it made for good conversation speculating as to their domestic arrangements.What came as a very pleasant surprise was the food. It was excellent and well above average Chinese restaurant fare. For this we were fully prepared to put up with the non matching crockery, and the wrong dish being presented. The other good think is that it was all very reasonably priced and we left only £30 lighter - a bargain for a Sunday night. Be aware - this is not a "first date" restaurant, more for people who have been together for 35 years and complete each other's sentences.

This was a very average Chinese. We did not really enjoy the food that much but we still eat it. Its a shame as its well located but we wont be going back again.

After reading other reviews on here we decided to try Chan Cottage for the first time.We were not disappointed there is plenty to choose from, the food was delicious and the service was polite and fast This is now our new takeaway choice

Based on Trip adviser we booked a table for 4. On a arrival we realised it is a takeaway with a couple of tables bunged in, but while I'd not go there for a romantic meal it was quirkily charming. Lady owner is lovely and as she's single her kids help her. The food was the best Chinese I've ever had. Even my wife, a non Chinese food lover, enjoyed it.A great find.

Would really recommend. Great food with a good selection on the menu. Very courteous and helpful staff.

I'd like to recommend Chan Cottage for a good value yet delicious takeaway. Dry fried chilli squid was particularly moreish.

A very welcoming Chinese Takeaway, excellent service and very prompt cooking! The young lady who took our order was extremely helpful and very professional! A vast range of different dishes, some of which I haven't seen before and really nice with plenty of taste! Many thanks.

Go there about once a month for a big full English. Best breakfast you'll find for miles. Friendly staff and brilliant food.

Chan cottage is run and owned by a chinese lady and her business partner so things are authentic and excitingly different. She is so knowledgable and happy to please.

Don't get me wrong, I do really like Chinese food. But I don't know about you, I have always thought that Chinese food tasted, well, like Chinese food, whereas Indian food tasted different depending on which dish you chose. I'm fully prepared to hear different opinions, but that's just mine.But Chan Cottage changed all that for me, big time.The food here is exquisite, the subtleties in the flavours are amazing. I would challenge even Michael McIntyre to order the same every time from here.I get takeaways from here; they do have a restaurant area, but it's not large and probably about 8 or so covers. It's my regular Devizes takeaway, and if you try it on a Friday evening, please do say hello.The family that run Chan Cottage are really friendly and exceptionally helpful; my wife can't eat dishes that contain Gluten or Dairy and she isn't that keen on spices, so the owner has prepared a variation (on number 205) which meets my stringent requirements and it's lovely. I implore you to give this place a try if you're ever in Devizes, I'm sure you won't be dissapointed.

Lovely food!! Could not fault the food at all. Does not look like a restaurant as such- more like a takeaway waiting area but the food really overshadows that!Service was ok- we did have to wait for our drinks a while when a lad came in for a takeaway and got a drink before us! Other than that- pleasant lovely service and would visit again.

Driven past many times and the look out me off! Wanted a Chinese on a Sunday evening and this place was open so gave it a go. What a surprise the food was lovely. The only reason it didn't get full stars was because they charge to deliver regardless of the order amount.

We had the vegetarian takeaway for 2 - what a bargain! Food was well cooked and full of vegetables. What a shame we do not live closer as this would certainly be a regular haunt.We were charmed by the young lad who brought our meal outside to where we we were waiting for a very short time on the benches - he said he hoped we enjoyed our food. Yes we did thank you!

Highly recommend this restaurant. You can eat in or takeaway. It's nothing fancy but the food is delicious and good value for money. Will be visiting again in the near future even though it is over thirty miles away!

They delivered our food to our holiday lodge miles away! Was very good of them to come out and find us in the middle of nowhere! Also, food was really nice, lovely Chinese take-away.

This Chinese - it's AMAZING! they treat us SO nicely! They always send prawn crackers for free! and when we go there they greet us with a warm welcome! brought to our house within minutes and as for the food it's too heavenly to describe!

Just OK. No great atmosphere and the food was only just all right. The staff appeared not too friendly but were polite but not too attentive. We will try this establishment again - maybe.

Friendly staff, good food. Best chinese in town! Never had a bad meal. They have a few tables inside but as 99.9% of people use it as a takeaway and are constantly coming in and leaving, i wouldnt recommend eating there.

Average Chinese takeaway , but by devizes standards its pretty good much better then the bamboo just a shame they charge £3.00 delivery.

This looks small, neat and welcoming and run by a local Chinese familly. The food is excellent and all cooked fresh. The service is courteous and the price is very competitive. Highly recommended.
