Really disappointed/shocked as wanted to find a good pub in KL as regularly there, and chose this which was a bit off the main road and would be good to support. Was looking forward to try this one. Waited patiently at the bar for the bar lady to return. We were clearly the next to be served and she came over looked at us (no ‘hello’ or ‘thank you for waiting’) I placed an order then she said ‘are you in the party?’ to which I said no. Then she abruptly turned around and rudely said ‘you’ll have to wait’ and walked off and served someone else. Was a bit in shock at how rude she was, the pub wasn’t even that busy. We then decided to leave. Clearly not the best person to have working in a customer facing environment, or someone who should be working in hospitality. I hope the rudeness wasn’t racially driven. Will be advising others not to go here and experience the same rudeness.

We hired the pub for an afternoon 80th birthday party. With 40+ family members it was easier than catering at home. We were lucky with glorious weather (April 13th) and were able to take advantage of their secure garden. With smaller children involved, that was a boon but the adults were more than happy to enjoy the facilities too and sit in the sun. The Old Palace is a traditional, historic pub with private dining facilities upstairs, which we didn’t need on this occasion. They did all the catering for us, apart from birthday cake, and everything looked and tasted great. Russ and Celeste were very accommodating for all our arrangements with videos and music and couldn’t do enough for us. They hire out the downstairs pub and garden or the full premises depending on requirements. We definitely had a 5* afternoon.

Wanted to try this pub for ages as used go there many moons ago. Agreed to meet there with my sisters and partners, a group of 6 for lunch today. Parked up and went to the door but seemed like it was closed, although showing as open on website as obviously had checked this out before our visit, it being the Christmas period. Got there at 1.45pm and the pub was definitely closed! Phoned their number as website was showing open and a lady answered and said they would be open "in about half an hour" ! Asked if they doing food and she said yes. Thought it a bit strange the pub being closed with a re-opening time that would have been 2.15pm ? but nevertheless went to the Saracens Head in Kings Langley High Street for a drink, which I by the way would highly recommend with the idea to return to the Old Palace for our meal. So we all returned to the Old Palace at 2.30pm only to find the doors were still closed and the pub was still definitley not open! We were so terribly disappointed and to be honest although I wanted to phone them again were dis-suaded by my party as the idea that any establishment would treat their customers in this manner made them not want to frequent such a place. I am thoroughly disappointed with my experience as I seem to be the only one in my party that actually would want the opportunity to visit this pub, but fear I am outnumbered.

Always great when a local pub goes that extra mile for customers. The Old Palace opened its kitchen specially just for my walking group and produced a good meal for 15 hungry and thirsty walkers. We pre-ordered to help and the kitchen really responded, delivering the meal quickly and just as we'd requested. The staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. It's not a big pub, but there's a decent amount of seating, a nice bar and a small garden for warmer weather. The menu isn't big, but there are plenty of options, plus some daily specials. The food is a step up from basic pub grub, with some imaginative dishes like chicken and chorizo gnocchi casserole. Again, there's not a huge range of beers and lagers, but enough for all but the keenest beer fanatics. All of us are from the area, but none of us had been in the pub before (and some didn't know it existed). Fairly sure quite a few of us will be back.

Having seen adverts about The Old Palace, we decided to give it a try before booking for an event with family. Parking is not always easy, but did manage to find a space. On walking in through the door we were greeted by a large dog, who although very friendly blocked our way in. The Pub was empty (approx 12.45) except for one person sitting at the bar. We received no welcome from the lady behind the bar, or apologies that the dog had stopped us getting in. We sat down and the seat I had sat on was obviously where the dog was sitting and he promptly got up and laid by the side of me. My husband ordered our starters and main course at the bar and a bottle of wine. There was no friendliness at all. The dog laid on the seat and no one asked if I minded or apologised . We have to admit the food was excellent, and we enjoyed, but the front of house staff was awful. To make matters worse when my Husband went to pay, he was given no bill , just asked for £44, the wine was £20 a bottle, no way is it worth that for a Chiliean Merlot, and we were over charged £4 for desserts which we did not have. We were very disappointed and no way will we go back, or recommend this to anyone. Thank you chef for your lovely cooking, but if you want people to come back, please employ some friendly front of house staff.

Decided to go to this lovely pub whilst stopping overnight elsewhere. There were five of us dining and we were completely overjoyed by the food. We all chose different meals and no one was disappointed, the meals weren't stingy by any means my cod loin being cooked to perfection with a lemon sauce that cut through it beautifully. The staff were very friendly as were the locals and especially the pub dog bobby. One of our group said they hadn't had a meal that good for a very long time. We all totally agreed. I have eaten in some 'top rate' restaurants and this was up there with some and better than most. The reviewer saying at 2pm they had no Sunday lunches left should have realised that is the sign of very good food being served.

Lovely looking pub in a nice location.Starters were great - we had the whitebait & the asparagus with poached egg. One of the starters was forgotten about, so had to re-ordered by staff.Mains were a bit disappointing - lots of items in the menu were sold out. Lasagna was over cooked and the steak burger was chewy & the brioche bun was too dry. That said, after a long walk, a nice one nearby, might pop in.There were no seats in the restaurant so we sat in the bar and as such received pretty much no service, ordered at bar, had to ask for more drinks - which were shouted across the room - couldn't be bothered to come to our table. Can't comment on the deserts as no one bothered to ask if we wanted any.Perhaps being seated in the restaurant would have been different.

a nicely old-fashioned / proper pub, with a small garden to the rear, a very homely atmosphere right from the start even though quiet upon our arrivalwe are a small group of old-pals, and we meet regularly for a meal and a couple of drinks, and are keen to find quality establishments previously not used. We had eaten in Old Palace a couple of years ago when frankly the experience was awful, particularly the food. However in searching for new venues, I happened to see the recent excellent reviews for the pub, so thought we would see whether the cooking matched the reviews; IT DID!!! 4 different main courses and 2 different puddings, all of which were very well cooked and delicious, the consensus view being that this was as good a pub meal as we had for some long while. During the later part of the evening the pub got reasonably busy (but not too much so) and the atmosphere remained convivialonly downside was the price of wine; £22 for a bottle of "house" was far too much, and smacked a little of corporate-greed, and unnecessarily so given the margins that already exist on such items. This of course can be easily resolved, and should be ASAPFinally the pub would I think benefit from setting up its own dedicated web-site
