My partner and I had to be at Wolfhampcote church (nearby) for a rehearsal at 1pm last Sunday, so I rang up the Old Olive Bush to ask if they could fit us in for lunch. They wouldn't normally have opened before 12.30, but Linda was determined that we wouldn't be late for our rehearsal, and offered to open up at midday. She also described the steak pie in such alluring terms that we placed an order for it immediately...and it lived up to the billing. Thank you, Linda, for a delicious lunch, and for being so helpful. We hope to come again!

What a find!! Beautiful village and lovely pub. Went for food to be told owner wasnt well and unfortunately food was off. Disappointed but decided to stay for a drink. I had the local cider and it was lovely. So much so I asked if I could buy a pint glass to take home with me. Unbeknown to me I spoke to the owner Linda who was feeling so much better and said I could take one with no charge. She also said she was cooking this evening and give us menus. Food was so tasty and the 4 of us really enjoyed. Linda and the lady behind the bar were so lovely and looked after really well. We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was to much trouble. Thank you so much for a lovely meal, the lovely welcome and of course the Napton Cidery glass. Diolch yn fawr iawn x

Easy walk up from the Canal (Bridge 102 15-20 mins). Second time we’ve been in and as good as the first. Brilliant well kept real ales - Goats Milk (CAMRA Champion Beer 2017) & Phipps IPA. Food is home made and is great.

The pub was a proper little country village pub with a pretty, rustic vibe created by the nice use of natural hops and fairy lights decor. We were seated in a small, cosy raised area of the pub which was perfect for a group of seven friends. The owner could not have done any more to accommodate us. The chicken curry tasted fab but it was a little hot. Those opting for the steak pie commented on the delicious pastry and tasty chunks of tender beef. The bread and butter pudding was scrummy, as was the lemon meringue pie. The landlady was well prepared to offer alternative choices for our dietary requirements. The menu both for food and drinks wasn't extensive but it was delicious home style cooking, generous portions and all for a reasonable price!

The second time I've visited and this place is a gem! It's a proper old pub serving decent ales and a selection of other drinks. The food is mostly home made and absolutely delicious. We had steak pie, chips and cauliflower cheese which was all very nice indeed. Home made desserts include hot chocolate fudge cake and the biscoff cheesecake which was amazing! The pub and gardens are quirkily decorated and very unique...in a good way. Linda runs the pub on her own and I found her to be very chatty and extremely pleasant. Like many people I use much busier pubs, but you cannot compare the two, she has one day off a week and rarely takes a holiday in order to keep this place open. Having read some of the poor reviews it seems that not everyone understands how a country pub has to operate in order to survive, by catering primarily for its regulars. I would strongly recommend booking in advance. I will pop in here every time I'm passing. Despite some comments it is less than a mile from the canal bridge 102, slightly uphill and a 20 minute walk at a reasonable pace.

We stopped of here whilst returning on a canal boat to Braunston. To be honest I’m a bit bemused by the five star reviews. We had to find our own menus to start with, then waited ages to place an order. The fish was oily, the steak pie looked like someone had sat on it and the two rare and one medium rare steaks were so overcooked the children could not eat them. The best thing on the plates was the peas! We then waited for the plates to be cleared and my wife’s plate was left in front of her for 20 minutes after the rest were cleared. The drinks were fine, not a bad selection of ales. For the amount we paid we left a bit disappointed and to be honest we were disappointed by the whole experience.

We stopped off here for dinner on the way back from a 4-day stay on the canal. We reserved a table for 8 and was greeted by Linda the landlady/owner (I think). She pretty much runs everything single handily. but you are never kept waiting, the food served is on time, plentiful and cooked to perfection (esp. the Steak Pies). I've not been to many places like it that make you feel so welcome. Highly recommend a visit....and a game of skittles whilst there!!!

What a fantastic pub! The landlady couldn’t have been any nicer or welcoming. We had some drinks in the garden which had a lovely seating area then headed inside for some of the best fish & chips I’ve had for a very long time. The fish was white and succulent with a thin crispy beer batter. Served with chips, garden peas & tartare sauce. Delicious! We didn’t have room for pudding but the list looked very tempting indeed. Would highly recommend this place, we’ll certainly be back.

We arrived for Sunday lunch as a party of 5 (4 adults and 1 under three). There was a sign saying 'under new management' out the front. Although we'd booked, the welcome was strange and staff seemed a bit perplexed about who we were. We waited at the bar to be served (diet coke / lemonade came out of a large plastic bottle which I haven't seen in a pub or restaurant for years, it was pretty flat). There didn't seem to be enough staff on and the lady who served us was clearly very busy and so didn't have the best customer service experience at the forefront of her mind. We ordered food at the bar (3 adult roast dinners, one of which needed to be gluten free, and a child roast dinner (they do not have any high chairs for info). When ordering food, my sister informed the waitress she was coeliac, to which she was asked by the waitress if we had made them aware of this when booking. We replied you don't generally do that at places that serve food, unless needing to pre-book food, as people handling food should be aware of allergies and dietary requirements, coeliac disease being a fairly common one. That was all that was said at the time. After 15 minutes of standing at the bar we asked if there was a table available, and the waitress said we could have the one behind us which was still uncleared from the previous customer. We cleared it ourselves, she did however come over to wipe it. When the food arrived, the waitress introduced my sister's meal as the 'special' meal. Not very reassuring. It was not a roast dinner, but what can be described as crispy plain rice with a lump of starchy food on top (possibly potato but not sure?) and a couple of thinly sliced dry turkey pieces on a plate on the side (no vegetables, flavour or sauce/gravy in sight). It was at this point did they say they could not cater for gluten free for a roast and they had done something else. When clarifying firstly what the meal was and if it was gluten free, the lady did not know. As it can make her very ill, my sister asked if she could find out for us. She came back saying it was gluten free but she still did not know what the meal was. Not wanting to cause any more fuss, we ate our dinners (the roast was pretty average). My sisters meal really was appalling, and something you wouldn't expect from somewhere charging for food. On asking for the bill, we said the gluten free meal was not good and were not prepared to pay for it. We did however offer to speak with the manager about how people with food allergies are generally handled in eateries just for future reference. The offer was declined. No bill was produced, just an amount asked for. We paid and left and hope that the experience for other people needing gluten free options might have a better chance of improving in the future.

Some friends were eating here and invited me along. As a Vegan I checked the menu and couldn't see anything. I rang to enquire if the vegetarian alternative for the Sunday roast would be suitable for a vegan. I was told that one could be provided so I went along but not with high expectations. Lunch was delicious with a very tasty roast Celeriac with garlic. I declined to see the desert menu at first but was told that there was a choice of two vegan deserts. I was surprised to see that neither were fruit salad or sorbet, the usual options. There was a choice of chocolate mousse or Blackberry and apple crumble. I chose the crumble and my non vegan friend chose the mousse as she wanted something light. I tried both and they were equally delicious with lots of thought and effort clearly put into making them. It is rare to find an establishment that will make such an effort for one customer. The pub was cosy with a nice atmosphere. The service was great and the garden, beautiful. There's something homely, unpretentious and relaxing about Sunday lunch at the Old Olive Bush. Lovely waitress Anna couldn't have been more welcoming and efficient too - no long waits with her. And the food was literally "just like Mother makes" : comforting, ample and cooked just right. Wine good. Puds good too. No wonder they recommend booking. We recommend you try it yourself.

Rang and booked a table for two plus the dog! Sat in the skittles room where another couple plus their pooch were seated. Lovely restaurant available too ( without pets ) and friendly locals in the bar. Yummy food and desserts were enjoyed and very attentive staff. Got soaked by the rain walking back to the canal but worth it.

Booked for half an hours time...no problem !Friendly welcome from pub dog, cat and humans. Food was really tasty and most options erred on the homemade choices.During our meal we got the impression people who arrived were "regulars" but also acknowledging us newbies. We liked this place a lot and can safely say this is going to be a regular haunt!

We travelled a bit out of Rugby for this anniversary meal, and we're very happy we did. Beautiful scenery and villages on the way, a very cute slice of Warwickshire! Simple honest food, extremely well executed and very reasonably priced. We were amazed when the bill came and would happily have paid more! Will certainly be back to enjoy the stunning garden in the summer...

We took friends for a birthday meal here this evening. We had often spoken of the legendary pies and the to die for desserts. Once again we were not disappointed. Everything, from the ambience, the service and the food was first class. Many thanks to you all, our evening was a memorable one. We will continue to bring our families and friends to your welcoming pub and restaurant.

We chose this pub simply as it was a midway location for a pre-Christmas family meal. It turned out to be a happy choice . The staff member who took the phone booking was very friendly and efficient ,as was the waitress who served us at the meal. The bar and restaurant areas were beautifully decorated for Christmas using tasteful and original greenery based on the olive tree theme. The meal was everything a traditional Sunday lunch should be . The rump roast beef was cooked just right and was accompanied by proper gravy ,Yorkshire pudding and a selection of vegetables. There was also a choice of pork or turkey. The desserts were homemade and very good too, including an excellent bakewll tart.We will certainly make this a regular venue for family catch-ups now that we have found it!

What can I say to portray the combination of great hospitality and great food? Quite simply that this was the the perfect English pub experience. I enjoyed a perfectly cooked lamb shank and sampled four other dishes too! All beautiful flavours, and in such a warm and welcoming setting. I have to mention how much this establishment cares for the environment, they serve beautiful Belu water too! A warm hospitable environment! The landlord is the heart and soul of any party and will make you feel welcome with complimentary drinks ;-)".So easy to find right next to the "old Post Office".

Selected the Old Olive Bush after reading tripadvisor. And not disappointed. Dad said "the best gammon and chips ever" I went for a pie and that was simply superb. Service excellent, setting was great. Beer, Hobgoblin, perfect. Thank you.

We popped into the Old Olive Bush after a walk along the Oxford canal near Flecknoe. We were really impressed with the renovated decor, friendly welcome and great food. Excellent beers and an impressive wine list as well. We all ordered one of the homemade options as they do steak and ale pies, quiche etc. The only recommendation I can make is to have one or two more vegetarian options for our friends!

I visited the Old Olive Bush with friends and feel compelled to comment. Unlike a previous review, I found the quaint old fashioned country pub look refreshing in this day of polished wood floors and pretentious fancy food.My friend's wife had the steak and ale pie and raved about it being the best pie she had had for years. I had the scampi and please don't take it off your menu! The Old Olive Bush must never change, keep your old photos of Flecknoe, your traditional pub food and your old fashioned English pub decor. Long live tradition, and long live the Old Olive Bush!

If you are looking for a gourmet experience this is not for you but if you want good straightforward food at a very fair price then this is for you. A particular speciality is the homemade main course pies. Flecknoe is off the beaten track but a charming village with The Old Olive Bush at its heart. The pub is very traditional which fits well in its surroundings and is run by nice people. Providing you know what to expect then a very good experience is in store.

This pub is definitely one of my favourites for a pub lunch. It serves a proper traditional, delicious pub food and the surrounding village and countryside are beautiful. The Sunday roast is amazing and also the pies. The dessert menu changes all the time - try the cheesecake or pecan pie if you get a chance. And the cheese board. Also the grassy beer garden round the back is really pretty and full of flowers.Would definitely recommend!

I have lived locally for years, and read the reviews so thought it was time to give the Olive Bush a try. To set the scene, my wife and I are 1960's baby boomers which gives us a perspective other may not share. We booked in advance and arrived to find all tables in the dining room booked, one booked for us as planned, so all good and just one other couple there. The restaurant probably has something like 24 covers, so cosy but not overcrowded. Décor is traditional country pub, brass bed warmers hanging on the wall, dark paint colours, wooden pub seats and tables dark carpet, so old fashioned (bit of a time warp), but it is a country pub after all. The menu and daily pie specials were presented to us, no starter course which is unusual but not a problem. The menu like the décor is very traditional, pie and chips and is also quite limited, one vegetarian option, no fish other than scampi (another time warp). Mrs S as a veggie had the goats cheese tart, I went for a pie, both of which were delivered in a traditional country pub way, honest and competent but not very exciting. The restaurant by now had one more set of four diners (and no more arrived even though every table was reserved) so a bit lacking in atmosphere and the background music was 70s/80s pop/disco which just reinforces the time warp feeling. Desert like the main course options was very traditional, crumble cheese board, cheese cake etc ....we went for the cheese board which was fine. I guess the message to the owners, is that the restaurant and menu needs some sparkle. Even a traditional pub should offer a better total experience, so if you like traditional food in a traditional pub setting you will like this, if not you might not.

Great venue for local artists and makers. Usually demonstrations taking place. Fabulous cakes and drinks available. It's not a pub anymore! Don't rate it low just because it's not been updated on here it is unfair! How do request a change of listing TripAdvisor?

Took my elderly mother here for a pot of tea and a bacon roll and wished I hadn't. The bacon rolls took nearly 20 minutes to arrive and the bacon was absolutely cremated. It was awful. I would've demanded my money back but my mother didn't want to make a fuss. Definitely won't return.
