We've been to the Old Mill a few times when we come to visit family (stayed overnight a few years ago under old management - lovely rooms). The building is great with different areas so you have room. The menu has been thoughtfully prepared to cover all tastes and there are also specials on the board. Cappuccino cheesecake was yummy! We will definitely be back.

Organising a family get together we booked a table for 10 for lunch on Saturday and realised the pub had changed hands. Although we were asked to prebook (so we didn't have to wait - everything is prepared freshly to order) we were not able to... as we hadn't seen each other for a long time we were chatting so didn't notice any wait. The menu is extensive plus a specials board which made choosing hard - when served everyone was very happy with their meal and the service was excellent. Definitely recommended and we will be back when we're in the area again.

I visited the Old Mill last week with my family and the owner, Arthur, was incredibly rude. We could overhear him mistreating staff which made me and my children feel very uncomfortable. Upon arrival, we did not feel welcome and could hear dogs barking non stop upstairs, which was a bit off putting. The food was extremely expensive too. Arthur, our server, did not ask us how the food was and clearly does not take pride in his service. All in all I would not recommend going to this pub under its new ownership. It’s such a shame to see such a nice pub go to waste!

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon, after a few friends recommended their roast dinner. We were definitely not disappointed! We both had a roast dinner; every element on our plate was lovely. The portion was a great size and everything on the plate was very fresh and well cooked. I have visited a couple of times since, and am looking forward to my next visit!

Under new ownership and taking time to bed in! It seems to have abandoned any pretence of being a pub in favour of the restaurant side of the business. But food is not a patch on the Robin Hood (Clifton Reyes) or The Swan (Olney) - and we’ve eaten in all three recently. The service on both occasions we’ve been to the Old Mill this month was really poor, despite not being busy. They really need to up their game or we won’t be returning.

Visited this charming pub for a night of food tasting and music. It was a Greek themed night, five tasting courses which were very nice, especially the final desert of pear in red wine with ice cream and baklava. The band was excellent, good rapport with customers and everyone was up dancing by the end of the evening. The atmosphere in the pub was relaxed and friendly, the bar staff were very accommodating. Outside, the pub courtyard is charming well set out with tables for a drink in the sunshine. We shall most definitely be back to this gem!

I used to come to The Old Mill when it was called The Old Mill Burned Down, which was a unique and fabulous name for what was then a unique and fabulous old pub. The name, now, is rather less U&F. So, as I discovered on Sunday, is the pub. The three stars I've awarded are slightly misleading in that some aspects of our meal at The Old Mill were certainly 5 star, whilst others were more 1 star. On the positive side, my sea bass with garlic vegetables was superb and the roast chicken was very good too. Veg and gigantic Yorkshires on all roasts were excellent too. Great coffee to finish with. Service was polite and friendly. The pub interior is attractive and the price was reasonable. On the negative side, we had chosen this pub based on its menu as shown on its web page. This consisted of an impressive range of choices from hot meals to sandwiches, salads etc. However, upon arrival at the pub we were handed menus with fewer than 10 choices of main meal and no lighter options at all. It even turned out that one of the main courses on that scant menu was off. This is not acceptable and amounts to misleading advertising. On the basis of that menu, we rejected other local venues that may well have offered us a better choice. Incidentally, the response 'It was Sunday and we only do roasts on Sunday' won't do. Nowhere on the website is that mentioned. The other main negative issue was that those of our party who had beef or lamb found the meat almost inedibly tough and stringy. Indeed my father left most of his. I notice that this is something that's been mentioned in other reviews. it is a little inconvenient that the pub does not have a car park. In such a small village, parking on the street is not ideal for either customers or, I imagine, residents. There is space to the side of the pub and to the back but they've chosen to devote it entirely to garden. Even a few spaces of dedicated parking would ease the situation in the village. Potentially a great pub but improvement is required in some respects.

We visited for a Sunday lunch with a couple of friends in mid July in the heatwave. The inside of the pub/restaurant is tastefully decorated. The service was attentive. The food was exceptional. You could tell that the meat was sourced from a local supplier. We decided to sit inside as it was in the middle of the heatwave and the restaurant was a comfortable temperature. The rear garden is well maintained.I recommend anyone who reads this review to give this place a try.

The menu is good, although none of the starters appealed to us, so we had the cheesy garlic bread instead. We had a mixture of meals, chicken, burger, fish and chips and all were lovely, hot tasty and well presented. We took our dog Bob and typically it rained so we had a private dining room which was really nice too. Bob enjoyed sitting near to the table. We had cheese as deserts and all wanted port but unfortunately there wasn’t any - that’s a shame as it’s advertised as an add-on with the cheese.Service was good and will go back another day.

Warm, friendly welcome from staff and the real ale was well kept aind very good. We ordered two main meals, I had the pork belly. The pork was cooked to perfection and a good size however the accompanying vegetables were very meagre. A slice of potatoe and what amounted to a couple of teaspoons of veg puree with a bit of watercress. This was soon eaten and then I worked my way through the pork on it's own. Such a shame and for £16.95, I would have thought a little more in the way of vegetables was reasonsble. My husband enjoyed his chicken and the ratio of meat to veg was more balanced. I did inform the waiter when he brought the bill and asked how the meal was. It is a shame because if not for this I would have been giving 5 stars.

This could of happened to one of our children!!!! Room was full of cobwebs and unclean. Food wasnt very good and breakfast was terrible! Dan was very helpful kind and caring towards us. Everything else was a total disgrace. We meet every so often to share lunch and natter. The Old Mill at newton Blossomville - what a good choice. A sleepy little village tucked away near the River Ouse, and an old village pub with enticements - a friendly atmosphere, cheerful and helpful staff, and delicious food. Unusually, there were choices of size for many of the dishes: a standard or smaller portion. And for us and many other visitors this is an added attraction. Also, but not uniquely, a small pudding is offered with a choice of hot drink to finish the meal. Again, for us this was a really welcomed attribute to the menu. The food was excellent, hot, freshly prepared and good value. Our four, three course meals, excluding drinks, cost £84 and a few pence. There is just one slight grumble, the parking is only on the narrow village road. That's a small inconvenience for an otherwise ideal venue to enjoy lunch as time goes by.

After reading all the other reviews in here I was looking forward to lunch at The Old Mill. There were 4 of us and we all chose the Christmas menu. We were a little put off by the empty restaurant though although a family of 5 arrived about an hour after us!The starters all sounded nice and two of us went for the confit of guinea fowl, sadly it was very dry and not like confit at all! My husband had the whipped Brie which tasted very nice but could have done with some bread to eat it with. Our other friend had the smoked haddock croquettes and said they were delicious. For main course three of us chose the turkey with all the trimmings, the turkey came as two round pieces of meat with the stuffing in the middle as though from a prepacked roll/slice it was very tasty as were the roast potatoes. Alas the sprouts were very hard and I couldn't get a fork into mine. Our other friend had the roast cod that she enjoyed.Desserts were lovely, I had the Christmas pudding with brandy sauce, two of the others had the poached pear that they said was really nice and the third opted for ice cream! We then had mince pies with coffee or mulled wine.

Booked this months ago for overnight stay to attend a family wedding. It's a pretty pub in a beautiful village. Our room was clean and comfortable if a little lacking in head room. My partner hit his head on a beam and drew blood. However, it advertises itself as "luxury" which is definitely an overstatement. To access the rooms, you go through a door marked "toilets"! There are then really steep stairs taking you past kitchens and staff only areas. It feels as if you are entering a service area with poor quality decor and shabby Lino. Breakfast was OK but limited choice of cereal, no fruit or juice on offer. My eggs Benedict were hard and leathery. Unfortunately the pub was closed that evening for a private function at which the DJ was playing music so loud that two floors up everything in the room was vibrating and the cups were moving across the tray. It did stop at 11.30 although it took another hour for people to leave. It would have been nice to have been forewarned with a call so that we could find some alternative accommodation. My overall feeling was that although the staff were pleasant, they were indifferent to us. Luxury it isn't!

Went here on a Groupon deal of two courses for 2 people for £34. The goods was excellent and cooked like it had been properly prepared individually to order rather than just being slung out on request. The atmosphere in the place was just right as well, relaxed without feeling like you were just eating pub grub. Our mains were Salmon in a lemon sauce with vegetables which my partner enjoyed wholly and I had one of the best steaks I have ever had (I've had many) a fillet steak cooked correctly to the order of medium rare with some nice and crunchy triple cooked chips. The steak was truly superb and just melted in the mouth with no chewiness or sinew anywhere. I got charged a £7 supplementary for it that hadn't been notified on the Groupon deal/voucher but tbh had I known then I may have gone for a cheaper Ribeye or Rump steak and missed out on this particular piece of carnivore heaven on a plate - so all's good - I didn't resent the extra cost. For pudding my other half had a nice Banofee pie with caramelised banana and I had an excellent Chocolate mousse on an almond Sponge base. Drinks were excellent value as well with a large glass of a nice house Marlow being £5.25 and a pint of Aspall draught cider at £3.60. We will certainly return but will probably not bother with the Groupon deal next time as you probably only save a few pounds at most - however it has introduced us to an excellent local-ish new place to eat.

so glad I use groupon, as we wouldn't have found this place. Really nice little pub in a beautiful village. We went on a Saturday night. The pub was very quite. Walking in we were welcomed with a smile. The service we had was outstanding. Nothing was to much trouble. The meal was plentiful. We had rib eye stake, which was wonderful, pan fried salmon which melted in your mouth and the steak and ale pie which was freshly cooked, though some of the meat inside was a bit chewy, but still nice. The reason I have only given 4 stars and not 5 is it could do with a duster going around, as a little dusty in places. But apart from that I would recommend this place and will be visiting again.

Lovely village setting. Décor very appealing. Atmosphere convivial & pleasant.Service relaxed, yet attentive. Food was beautifully prepared and quite delicious. My sister declared her rib eye' one of the best ever'. My salmon special was melt in the mouth. Everyone enjoyed their main & we then went on to desserts. Huge strawberry meringue arrived & a heavenly chocolate & blackcurrant tart. Portions were generous & prices very reasonable. Drinks not expensive either. Would definitely go back.

But think their service for quicker as the evening went on.Would definitely consider going back

We held our Wedding Reception at the Old Mill. From start to finish the staff were fantastic, Phyll, Lauren, Mike and team helped to make this the best day ever for us! Excellent food, brilliant atmosphere and nothing was too much trouble when we asked for any extras. They made it easy for us to relax and enjoy our day to the full, making suggestions and working with us all the way. We took over the whole pub including bedrooms which were superb, well equipped and very clean, breakfast was wide ranging and they took on board all our quirky ordering of no this or can I have with a smile. I cannot thank them or praise them enough they made our wedding weekend fanastic!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - Julia & Graham Rose

We had a Groupon voucher for a 2 course meal. Never been to this Hotel/Restaurant before. A bit off the beaten track but in a lovely village. Parking was on the road. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. It is an olde world type building with seating outside. For starters we had the Tomato soup and Trout Pate - both were absolutely delicious. For the main my husband had the rump steak and I had the Special of the Day Pan fried Cod with fondant potato, with a pea sauce. Both were out of this world! For dessert hubby had the apple pie and ice cream and I had the strawberry meringue in a strawberry and mint coulis. Only annoying thing was that the good came by a lift and when it was ready a loud noise emitted to attract the staff. I think they could make this a bit more subtle! But everything else was really good and it takes a lot for me to say this. We are already looking to book (which you have to do) for weekend breakfast! You must experience.

A pretty pub in a village as good as its name. We had pre-ordered our food and it arrived without a hitch. All good, substantial and well-cooked pub food at reasonable prices. Wasn't drinking so can't speak for the beer but there was a selection on offer. Friendly helpful waiting staff and managed to stuff in pudding as well, again trad and well done.

Visited this establishment for Sunday lunch, lovely building and nicely set up as a pub/restaurant. The staff were friendly so all good there So to ordering the food, this is where it started to go wrong."Could we have a beef and chicken please, one with new potatoes and one with roast, can you please put them in separate dishes and not on the plate so we can share?""So you want an extra new potatoes?" Came the reply"No we just want one new potatoes and one roast potatoes in total just in separate dishes and not on the plate please" "Err, OK!""Can we also please have our gravy in a jug please and not on the plate as I like to add this myself to taste?"" ok, it sometimes comes on the plate so I will tell the kitchen not to"Food arrives, chicken ok although seems strange to serve grilled chicken as part of a roast dinner as opposed to roast chicken (chicken breast). Beef arrives covered in gravy, so was sent back, in the meantime, 2 portions of "roast" potatoes arrived and one portion of new potatoes. The beef arrived back about 5 minutes later, gravy free thankfully. The veg was nicely cooked with the exception of all of the potatoes, I don't know weather the new potatoes had been microwaved but I would be surprised if not, the "roast" potatoes quite frankly were bloody awful, anemic, hard, cold and very undercooked, (I would be surprised if they had had more than 5 minutes in an oven) this was pointed out to a staff member who declared that "they probably went cold while you were waiting for the beef, but it's ok we won't charge you for the new potatoes" The beef was over cooked slightly, I suspect there is a lot of pre preparation goes on in this establishment very well in advance. On the plus side the Yorkshire puds and red cabbage were really goodSummarising, I would not go back for Sunday lunch, the extras such as £2 for stuffing and £2 for cauliflower cheese is quite frankly taking the mickey, it makes an £11 roast in to a £15 roast which is way over the top for the quality of the meal (these should be standard), there are many good eateries in the area which I visit regularly for Sunday lunch such as The Bell in Odell and The Three Cranes at Turvey who cook superior ingredients far better also reasonably priced and it is very evident that there is a lack of basic understanding of this here, perhaps whoever cooks should research the local market, maybe go for lunch somewhere else locally to see where things can be improved. This is a beautiful setting not being utilised to its full potentialDon't get me wrong I'm happy to pay for quality but if I want a meal of this standard I would go to the local Toby carvery A real shame

A friend and I had lunch here recently. I had a veggie burger which was delicious and served with chips to die for. My friend had a hot black pudding and poached egg salad with which she declared herself delighted. But the crowning moment came when I jokingly asked the friendly and helpful guy serving us if I could have balsamic vinegar to go on my chips and he brought me some! Great food and service, nice atmosphere. Beers reasonable too.

I didn't see much on the menu itself that particularly interested me, but the list of specials on offer was extensive and I could have ordered any of them (I think there were 4 separate dishes). In the end I had the risotto as a starter and cod for main, my wife had the arancini and fish cakes (slight error in hindsight as had 2 fried dishes). My wife's was good and my risotto was fantastic. My cod however was not great and the dauphinoise was under cooked. My complaint was dealt with fantastically by Lauren, the young lad who was waiting tables was also great. The staff really make this place if the food just had a bit more attention to detail then it would be top notch

This pub has to be one of my favourites. Every year I visit and I am never disappointed. The pub is beautiful, clean and comfortable and the food is delicious. This year I went for the Veggie burger and my only gripe was that it came on a slate (I come from Yorkshire, we're traditional, we like a plate). However, that whinge over the food was just wonderful - the burger cooked to perfection and I still am trying to work out how a veggie burger could taste as good as the real thing. It came with some kind of exceedingly tasty sauce on it, chips and salad and I truly cannot praise it enough. Mum and Dad both had the fish and chips and both enjoyed it immensely. We would have loved a pudding but we were just too full. They let dogs in too so a big thank you for that.

We arrived at 2.15 and having been advised there was a 30 minute wait we went ahead and ordered lunch for 2. After 50 minutes I asked where the food was and told it was 'being plated up and will be a couple of minutes'. 10 minutes later it finally arrived.....it was ok, but an apology or some kind of message of regret would have been welcomed.A shame a nice little pub, not too far from where we live, a pity there was only 1 real ale on......and again an apology or similar would have been nice. The staff were friendly enough, but perhaps some more honesty from the kitchen would have helped them. Having paid for our drinks separately it was disappointing they tried to add them to my bill....and again no apology. We are lucky to have a number of good pubs in the area so don't think I'd risk this one again.

Went to welcome some friends to the village. We had all decided to meet up at The Old Mill and had a great time. The beer was very good. Although I didn't eat, nearly all my friends did and the look on their faces clearly told a story. There were smiles all round, the food was well presented, well cooked and there were plenty of empty plates. The service was cheerful, the staff were happy and attentive. I will definitely go back and try the food for myself and, of course, have another beer. That was at least twenty happy people. Keep up the good work.

My friend booked this Pub Restaurant with a Groupon Voucher which was for a steak dinner for two with a two course meal and a glass of Prosecco. We were offered a variation on the voucher and could add or change the voucher choice to suit ourselves and just pay any difference to the offer. We ordered scampi as a starter. This came as a main course size portion, obviously having been cooked in two separate batches as on both our plates half was cooked normally and the other half was very overcooked. We both ordered the Fillet steak, mine medium rare and the other rare. Considering the pub was extremely quiet it took a long time to get our main course. When it did arrive the steaks were both barely warm. We asked for them to be served hot and they were taken away but when they returned to us they were still barely warm. My friend sent hers back again but by this time I had lost interest as the steak was extremely chewy and gristly anyway so there wasn't any point in having it reheated again. As the steaks are advertised as from local butchers, I do feel that they need to source them from elsewhere. It was definitely the worst fillet steak I have ever had.I wasn't asked if there was a problem even though I had left most of the main course, another reason being the excessive salt which was already on the chips. As this pub is in a remote village I assume they are using Groupon to try to attract more trade, but unfortunately serving such inferior food they are unlikely to do so.

The lady running the bar and serving the food was very friendly and helpful and added to the overall experience. The starters were very big - my wife had the fish platter, which included a superb smoked mackerel pate and I had the guinea fowl confit salad; this had crispy lardons and chesnuts and was delicious. We then both had the rump steak which, again, was very good... and a special shout-out for the chips!Overall we had a lovely time and we will be returning.

They serve some nice food (the seabass was very good) and some good ale.The room I stayed in was clean and of reasonable size , but hardly luxury as suggested on the website.Essentially a nights stay with dinner , a couple of pints and breakfast next day for £85 was good value.A slight negative if you are a light sleeper , avoid room 1 ,it is situated above the kitchen and a loud humming from extraction or refrigeration is very noticeable

My wife and I ate at the old mill last night, and stayed overnight too.I had calamari for a starter, my wife had smoked salmon. Both were well presented on a wooden platter, and extremely generous portions, with a garnish of fresh rocket. The main course though, is why i am actually leaving a review. The fillet steak was big- probably 7oz at a guess, was cooked impeccably well, and was melt in the mouth tender. One of the best steaks i've had in a long time -i'd like to know who their butcher is. The steaks came with a generous salad, some sautéed mushrooms and "triple cooked" chips - which were very nice indeed. We had ordered side dishes of onion rings and seasonal vegetables but barely managed to eat any of them because we were so stuffed.Genuinely impressed and will definitely be returning.

Apart from being rather lacking in atmosphere on a quiet Tuesday lunchtime, this was a very enjoyable dining experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, the menu was varied, the food was well-cooked and presented, with generous portions (the chips, both conventional and sweet potato, being worthy of particular mention) and the prices were reasonable. After large fishy starters, we each had a burger, which in both presentation and content were a distinct cut above the normal. The Old Mill is a bit off the beaten track but well worth seeking out.

We came across The Old Mill by chance, having booked to go to Santa Pod for "Firework Frenzy" on Saturday 1st November 2014. The Santa Pod Raceway website gave a few choices of nearby B&Bs to stay. We thought The Old Mill looked nice and cosy and we were not disappointed! We arrived around 1.30pm on the Saturday and felt welcomed as soon as we walked through the door. The bar had a collection of diners in for the lunchtime trade, along with a couple sat at the bar drinking. It was apparent that the manager Mike, and his staff had embraced Halloween with appropriately named guest ales and lunchtime bar specials on the board to reflect the theme, for a party that they had put on the night before. Having dropped our suitcase into the room, we wandered back down to the bar and ordered the goulash off the specials board, which came in a soup bowl full to the brim with a large "chunk" of warmed bread. It was delicious!Off we went to Santa Pod (which we would also recommend - awesome afternoon of monster trucks, jet mini, stunt bike, drifting, etc all for the small cost of £15, which allowed a car of up to 5 people in). When we returned early evening, the bar was again fairly busy and became a buzz of activity with friendly locals passing through. Luckily, we had booked a table in the restaurant for later, as we probably wouldn't have got seated otherwise. I ordered the smoked salmon on a bed of rocket with capers, lemon and melba toast for a starter and my husband had the homemade mushroom soup. If I had known how large the portion of thickly cut salmon would be (I wish I had taken a photo!) I probably wouldn't have ordered a steak! - it was humongous! For main, I had the ribeye steak (locally sourced) cooked medium rare with peppercorn sauce. This came with mushrooms, chips, a grilled tomato and garnish. My husband had the BBQ pulled pork burger with chips. Neither of us were disappointed! We had planned on having a dessert/cheese and biscuits but unfortunately, we were beat! Having finished our wine and a friendly and informative chat with Mike at the bar, we retired to bed.The room we stayed in was lovely. It overlooked the courtyard and also the village road. The bathroom was large and had both a shower and a bath in the ensuite. I particularly liked the fact that there was a mini fridge in the room for you to use, which held a couple of bottles of complimentary water and fresh milk for your tea/coffee.Following a lovely, restful night in a very comfortable bed, we went down for breakfast. I was so impressed with the salmon from the night before I cheekily asked if my scrambled egg could be served with a bit of salmon, even though it wasn't on the menu. My breakfast arrived with half a dinner plate of smoked salmon and half a plate of the creamiest scrambled egg I have ever tasted. To my own disappointment, I didn't manage to finish it - not even with a little help from my husband who had the full English! We were both very impressed.Over breakfast, we chatted with another couple who had also stayed over. Their views of the pub, B&B and the food were similar to ours - fantastic! The only thing I may regret is actually writing this review, having now given away the secret about a treasure of a B&B, in Newton Blossomville, which is just going to become more and more popular due to it's lovely bar and restaurant staff, along with it's fantastic chef and kitchen staff. We will definitely be returning - I just hope we can get in!Thank you to Mike and all of his team for a very pleasurable stay - we hope to see you again soon!

I ordered the large breakfast, but it was disappointing. The portion of beans was laughably small—barely even half a spoonful. The toast was burnt around the edges but still soft and barely toasted in the middle. And the fried eggs were so overcooked they were practically solid, making them difficult to eat. Quite a letdown overall.
