The Old Lodge Hotel in Gosport

Fantastic overnight stay at an independent hotel. Wanted for nothing and we’re well looked after by Kirsty. The full English over delivered and is highly recommended.

Amazing, friendly and beautiful place. Kirstie was extremely helpful and professional. The place is dog friendly and has its own fur bar.

Stayed here on Fri 29 July for one night. Our room was clean and presentable as was the ensuite. The garden was busy with couples and families enjoying the sunshine in the afternoon. Had a good night's sleep as it was quiet even with our window open. Would recommend for anyone staying in Alverstoke. Staff were very friendly and helpful too.

Our second stay at the Lodge. Friendly, helpful, very nice room, clean and well presented. Excellent breakfast, cooked to order. We certainly will be returning.

One of the staff members, not sure of her role as she did not do any work for the time I spent there, drinking with friends, consistently asked myself and others for cocaine and stated she would kick us all out, if she wasn’t given any drugs. She came across very egotistical. Later that night I saw her and a few others hurry into the disabled toilets, to which you could hear sniffing. I am disgusted by this staff members behaviour and attitude towards customers, especially when drinks cost upward of £7.80 each.

Hotel was welcoming and staff were lovely. Comfy bed in a quiet room and had a great nights sleep. Loved the extra pillows in the wardrobe. Brilliant shower. Tasty breakfast and lovely veggie sausages. Thank you for the great stay

Whilst the pub is lovely and the staff attentive the food is truly awful. All courses dry and taste bland. And I mean dry and bland. Most of us left huge portions on the plate. Dry and tasteless. Cheap ingredients and one bite of the salmon was enough to put down my fork .

absolutely awful, a few cheap, very small, tasteless frozen prawns to start with no sauce just a watery liquid, no flavour and no bread and butter. The roast was inedible I've never seen such fatty pork loin and it was darkish brown! anemic potatoes and parsnip, watery gravy, unpleasant veg. If they didn't have a chef I wish they had warned us. I can't think of any excuses for such a disappointing lunch. I would not go here again.

I organised a birthday Sunday lunch for my elderly mother at the Old Lodge. It was a perfect day with John's team producing an excellent roast. The ladies at the bar were brilliant and all prices were very reasonable. Our third birthday meal here and they have never let us down. Look forward to our next visit

Just got back from a brilliant lunch with my girlfriends, we only wanted a light lunch so decided to share 2 boards of food one with all different meat, the other with cheese, these also included crusty bread, olives, hummus, chutney, strawberries, grapes, apple etc. with a bowl of salad and crispy hot chips. We sat outside very comfy with a umbrella and cold drinks, staff very helpful, friendly, attentive but not in your face. We will be going back, and would recommend The Old Lodge for good food.

Enjoyed our stay here. Lovely clean room, great breakfast, nice village location very close to the sea and attractions of Gosport and Portsmouth harbour.

Was recommended the Sunday lunch . So we gave it a try today and food was beautiful! Good choices and lovely taste! The waitress we had called louise was excellent at her job and nice and friendly ! Will be recommending! And definitely returning

Group of 8 of us went, excellent food and service all round. Between us all we had pretty much all the dishes and all were brilliant. Great staff always helpful and friendly. I personally eat here with my family and it's the same then. Great value, great food, friendly help staff. Lou is the best :)

The meal was at lower end of just about acceptable , but on the other hand not really as it wasn't hot enough. It was OK for the start of it, but wasn't heated enough from the beginning. Maybe I should have shut the outside door as that wasn't helpful being upopen. As I had to wait as the lady hadn't seen me sitting there I just kept on with the meal as if I'd have sent it back for heating I would have been even more delayed and I hadn't got that much time as the service wasn't very good. Someone showed me the seat when i arrived. I waited a while and no one came and I saw a lady cleaning the tables. I went over to get her to say I had been waiting and she said she hadnt seen me. Some good I'm sure. So I wouldn't have got served unless I had beckoned her. I only paid £10 for 2 courses, so the price was fairly good. it turned out I'd eaten just about enough as it happened, so that was OK. But if you're extra hungry it wouldn't be suitable. The two ladies whom I paid were rather discourteous i thought and didn't seem very suitable as waitresses. The girl who bought me my dinner didn't seem too happy in her job, and overall they went very organised. This lady came to the group several times to see if everything was OK, but never came to me. Dont advise anyone to sit in the corner This was my first visit there and Gosport. It did save me having to go to Waitrose to buy food though. All in all not very impressive

Good value, you have to book as popular. Well cooked, loads of veg. Soup came with a slice of bread a roll would have been nicer.

Excellent service and value. Always welcoming! The bouncy castle is amazing for the kids. Mark the waiter was very attentive when we went for a roast. Definitely advise going 🙂

We came on spec to celebrate some family birthdays on Wednesday evening. Great friendly service from all the staff. Our food was well presented, very tasty and good value. Not one complaint well apart from my daughter who was stuffed! We only live up the road so will definitely be coming more often. Well done Adam the chef.

Both meals cooked to perfection and good portions really enjoyed as i dont have a lot off sense off taste and smell so absolutely wonderful

Friendly little restaurant attached to this stunningly quaint hotel in a little coastal town Came here for a couples date night had a delightful young lady take our order and brought us our drinks.We decided to have a starter to share as we had been out already during the day The prawns in chilli and wine sauce was amazing it was so very well presented and tasted amazingFor mains we had a burger and my partner a mix grill which was on the specials menuIt was all cooked perfectly for us very well presented and was amazing I haven’t had a burger like that in a long time!! Thank you to the team there keep up the great job

Desperate to find a restaurant in Gosport open on a Monday night we ended up here for my friends birthday meal!Waited for about 5 mins at the bar before the waitress/bar staff arrived. Very friendly waitress and a lovely dining room we were the only ones eating. Dinner took forever to cook though. My friend had sausage and mash and I had the burger. I asked for a lettuce wrap instead of a bun but they didn’t have any lettuce! A very unappetising over cooked burger arrived with chips. The burger was not good but I was starving! There were no onion rings either which I mentioned to the waitress saying not to bother. My friends meal was nice but nothing incredible. As I was finishing my meal the onion rings turned up! Just seemed like the kitchen wasn’t expecting anyone and it was all a bit haphazard. Lovely place for a drink and snack but I won’t be going back for dinner.

We booked the restaurant on a Saturday evening but as there were only 2 other diners, it probably wasn’t necessary! Immediately concerned because it was empty but wasn’t going to let that bother us. And what a pleasant surprise. The food ordered was all beautifully cooked, chicken moist, fresh vegetables, not frozen, so very pleased. And the young chef advised on the T bone steak, which was a nice touch. The only minus points concerned the drinks. G and T was brought to the table, already poured and the wine was brought to the table already opened. A few less lights would be nice. But the minus points didn’t affect our enjoyment of the very well cooked and tasty food. Looking forward to returning!

Could not fault the staff today-amazingly well organised 2-course lunch with friends from the amazing value £9.95 menu. This was a combined Christmas get-together & surprise baby shower and we couldn’t have been treated better by staff-they were both organised & friendly & nothing was too much trouble. To top it off-food was absolutely lovely (there were a lot of comments on how amazing the chips were!) We were given our own room and felt really looked after-top service & a lovely lunch. Thank you.

Just visited The Old Lodge for a late lunch, the food and service was first class. Piping hot and plentiful, a lovely pleasant afternoon. Will return.

Hubby running the Great South Run for the 3rd time so we decided to stay again. Always a great welcome, lovely spacious room with very comfortable bed and good quality linen. Powerful shower and basically anything you want for brekkie. The staff are so friendly and helpful, really can't fault this place.

A great hotel, with great staff and great food!!!! I highly recommend the Old Lodge Hotel and can see why it has such great reviews!! More than happy to come back for another short stay away.....one happy customer 😁

Serving time was a bit slow considering that they were not very busy but the food was worth the wait. The homemade pies were very good with excellent pastry, the fish and chips was very tasty generous sized portions of quality pub food. Would recommend.

Myself and a group of friends came here for a drink, when we saw the food it was looking to good not to try. I ordered the pie of the day which was Chicken, Leek and mushroom. This was made to perfection! The mash was nice, the veg was spot on. The whole place was very clean with great service across the board. We did have to wait about an hour after ordering however with the quality of food this is normal and totally acceptable. Again the prices for food were above your usual Pub grub, but this isn't pub grub this is top restaurant grade food. And worth every penny. We will be returning.

I went here with a friend due to the 50% off with my Taste Card which made the food very affordable.

Went to the Old Lodge for a family birthday lunch for five adults on the Saturday of the royal wedding. Booked and arrived at 12:30. Ordered drinks, arrived ok. Ordered food at 12:50, and despite chasing several times the food still hadn't arrived at 14:00 and we were told wasn't imminent. Saw the owner as we couldn't wait for ever for the food to arrive, he didn't really apologise or explain why there was a delay and made us pay for the drinks.

I have been coming here for years and I'm never disappointed. Always greeted with a smile and great atmosphere - well done Mike and the team !!

Having read that the Old Lodge welcomes Taste Card members with “open arms”, we thought we would go out for dinner as it is nearby. We phoned and booked a table for 6.30pm, all ok and my mobile number was taken.

We had Sunday lunch for 12 friends and it was very good indeed - we had a lovely time . Good food and great service - thank you .

Previously visited when my parents came down for the weekend and we were pleasantly surprised. After our last visit we decided to book a table for 11 for a 23rd birthday party. Honestly can't praise the food enough, everyone was shocked on how generous the portions were and for the prices it was 100% worth it. At least 3 of us had ribs which were beautifully cooked whilst others had either steak, fish or 3 tapas selections for £12. Everything was cooked perfectly and we honestly couldn't praise the food enough.

Mike did a great job of organising a 50th birthday. Great buffet food, loads of it. Sorted DJ too. Fantastic night and all those that stayed in the hotel loved it.

My partner and I just had nice roast dinners here. They do a reasonably priced Sunday menu. If I had one complaint it was that the service was slow even though it wasn’t busy. We’ll definitely go back.

Stayed here for two night for my Cousins 50th birthday celebrations, Evening buffet was nice and varied. Our room of twin beds was comfortable with complementary tea,coffee etc., Breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious.

Stayed here last weekend whilst attending an event at the submarine museum. Very busy when we arrived with guests and a wedding, but we were pleasantly surprised that once we were in our room you could not hear a thing. Nice clean room with an excellent shower and comfy bed. Friendly hosts. We had a great gluten free breakfast the next day, no issues with catering for a coeliac. Would recommend and stay again.

table booked for 6pm not laid up till after we arrived as the waitress started at 6 pm. Bar staff were on a go slow but the pregnant waitress was working like mad and trying to please the customers.

Walked in no booking. Waitress was Bonnie who as always is cheerful and helpful. My husband had 15hour slow cooked barbeque ribs with coleslaw plenty of fresh salad and homemade chip's. I had pan fried salmon with crushed potatoes salad and mussel and leek fricasse. These were on the specials menu but plenty of choice on the normal menu and they do a two course over 55s menu too.Really good food fabulous top class chef Andy. One of tastiest meals we've ever had.We will definitely be back.A must visit if you're in the area.

A party of o9lder ladies met up & had a very easy & relaxed lunch. Was pleasantly surprised by the Menu. Thoroughly enjoyed it, plenty of choice, did Senior meals too. Once it arrived it was well presented, hot & tasty. Very good prices.The Staff were friendly & attentive to our needs.

Two of our friends invited us to join them at this hotel restaurant saying that the lunch menu for the over 55s (in which group which I am well qualified) was exceptionally good value at just under £9 for two courses.The two courses shown on the menu were a starter and main, but my friends assured me that I could have a main and dessert if I wanted. This suited me admirably as I much prefer desserts to starters. It would have been helpful if that had been clearer on the menu. Another problem for me was that I really only fancied the mussels on either starter or main menu and obviously I would not have wanted this dish twice.Anyway, when the food arrived we all thoroughly enjoyed what we had and only one of us was able to eat everything on the plate. If you like lots of very substantially sized chips this is the place to come. I must commend the management on the provision of a finger bowl, paper napkin, side plate (for the shells), and spoon to accompany my mussels. Too many places forget one of more of these items and they really are essential with this dish.I was the only one of us to have a dessert and I chose the crème brulée. That was excellent, both in presentation (with lots of "extras"), and taste.The room in which we were sitting was exceptionally pleasant. Surprisingly, given the value of the food, we were the only ones there. Our "waitress", who I suspect had a more senior role in running the place, was all you could ask for both from the efficiency and friendliness point of view. The "background" music, which was a little too foreground to allow for conversation, was instantly turned down at my request.We are already thinking of a return visit.

It was a lovely summer evening, and where nicer to go after a days sailing but the Old Lodge. My partner and I invited my parents a long too. We should have realised something wasn't right when we arrived at 7.30 as the restaurant was deserted.The restaurant felt like sitting in a hall there was no atmosphere the lights were too bright and the tables lined up as if we were in a canteen. To make matters worse they let people from the bar and outside come and drink their drinks in the restaurant.Our waitress was pleasant enough, she brought us the menus and took our drinks menu. We ordered the fish of the day which was 'sea bass' and a steak and the lamb.Out of the 4 meals the steak was the only one edible. The fish was like cardboard and was extremely salty the scallops were like rubber and the potatoes and veg dry and burnt. The waitress said there was a sauce to accompany the fish and she looked so excited to bring us a tiny jug of parsley sauce and said if we wanted more there was plenty in the kitchen ..... as you can imagine we didn't request more. My partner's lamb was under cooked and tasted more like ham than lamb. The only person happy with his meal was my father with his steak.We explained the situation to the waitress, there was no manager on site and it wasn't the head chef who was in the kitchen so she was left to take responsibility.We paid for our drinks and the steak meal and left our mobile number for the owner/manager to call us. We are yet to receive a call.It is such a shame that such a lovely place cannot deliver good quality food and service. The menu is over-priced for the type of food served.We will not be returning.

Ate here for two days during a recent stay in Alverstoke Really could not fault anything, good food and good prices. The only small negative was the lack of choice of desserts, didn't bother on the second night as options were so limited there was nothing we liked. Hence only giving four stars not five. Main courses excellent and staff very helpful and friendly. Would recommend.

We had an excellent dinner last night for 44 people - delicious chicken and salmon en croute. The service was also excellent - thank you.

we stayed 3 night staff all helpful and friendly was made to feel very welcome excellent food , room was a little small but very clean and everything we needed very nice feeling in the bar even local made you feel welcome.

Last minute decision to book here and I have to say it was the right choice. Excellent service, really lovely food at a wonderful price. Accommodates children with child size portions of adult meals which meant they got a great choice of food as opposed to an obligatory "kids menu". We will definitely come again - new local treasure !

We visit this hotel regularly, the staff are always really friendly and helpful and the food always excellent ! In particular Reuben who has swerved us a number of times is very attentive and always ensures we have a great experience ! We have samples pretty much everything on the menu and the food is always interesting and delicious, with a great choice ! Top marks to everyone at the Old Lodge ! Oh by the way a great pint of Peroni at a sensible price

We stayed here for a total of 5 nights with a 1 week gap in the middle the first 2 nights were OK the room was on the small size but we were 2 days late due to the inbound flight being delayed and we we put up were they could the service in the restaurant and bar was great the second part of my trip was even better with a spacious room and good food In the bar and great breakfasts

We turned up without booking on a Saturday night around 8pm. There was an 80th Birthday party going on in another room, a few people in the bar and only 2 other tables occupied in the brightly lit restaurant. The waitress welcomed us warmly, was knowledgeable about the menu and served us well, although surprised that at the end, a waiter came with the bill, not our waitress. No big deal but it would have be nice to have been served by the same person throughout. We all chose steak but 2 out of 3 asked for minimum chips, around just 6, but the plates came out with loads of them on all 3 plates. The steak was good and cooked to our orders. Our main complaint, which we conveyed to the young waiter, was that the restaurant felt just like a B&B room (which of course it is) but for an evening dinner, the lights should be dimmed. It was like eating in a cafeteria and totally unatmospheric. Definitely not a place to go for a romantic dinner for 2! It is so hard to find anywhere in Gosport decent to eat and so this is a real shame as I think the owner is missing a trick. The food has vastly improved but it was not a pleasure to eat in the restaurant. Dim the lights and change the decor and it would receive a higher rating from me.

Again another exceptional lunch for Mother's Day. The family had a verity of different dishes and all were 1st class. The hospitality around the table was exceptional the owner very attentive to drinks needs and our satisfaction. Would recommend a visit if you are thinking about booking a table. Congratulations to the whole team. Great venue!

Absolutely first class Sunday roast....best in the area by far. Locally sourced and fresh ingredients, great service during a very busy lunchtime

We were lucky enough to win a family Sunday lunch at The Old Lodge and so recently went to claim the prize. I have no idea why they needed to give meals away to get custom as everything was brilliant from the welcome to the goodbye and we will go back as paying customers in the future.The staff were friendly and helpful, the menu had something for everyone and the food tasted fantastic with no skimping on the portions either. With two courses for £12.95 this is excellent value. Can recommend the roast beef and the Camembert starter but I am sure anything ordered would be excellent.Thanks to all who made our visit one to remember

Thought we'd give this another visit. Nicely decorated & attentive staff. Good well kept real ales & good selection of not too expensive wine.Sat in restaurant. Pensioners two course lunches during week, tapas, sandwiches & cooked by a chef who takes pride in his work. Good choice on a la carte menu. Best meal we've had for long time we'll presented. Special mention for creme brulee dessert which was served flaming to caramelise the sugar on top!

A bit chaotic on arrival as two parties taking place. However staff were helpful and directed us to rooms.Not all towels replaced when used.Waste bin required in bedroom.Good breakfasts.

Called in on the off chance of getting a table for 3. No problems, a drink at the bar and then a very good lunch in a clean, tidy and welcoming restaurant. When next in the area I will return.

Popped down here for a Sunday Lunch with friends and was not disappointed. As well as traditional roasts, veggie of fish was also on offer. We all had roasts, the beef and pork were particularly delicious, with plenty of meat, Yorkshires, loads of spuds and 2 large veg pots to go round. Served hot, on hot plates and freshly cooked. The staff were helpful and friendly and service was excellent. Melt in the middle chocolate puds rounded off a very tasty meal. A cracking pint of HSB was also very good.Will be back again.

At £90 for a cramped double room, en suite with a tired shower room we found this poor value for money. Breakfast was good but not enough to make up for the poor accommodation. On Saturday night, public rooms were busy with locals drinking and watching football on TV, leaving nowhere restful for residents to enjoy.

Great venue bonnie n staff were very friendly , cooked breakfast was Delish even thou all 15 of us all sat down together...rooms clean n comfy n great help sorting taxis , safety pins needle n cotton & helping my brother the groom to print in his wedding speech...

Having been many times over the years , always good , sat in the bar side instead of the main Restraunt, very nice and relaxed a good selection of ales and spirits , Just what the doctor ordered on a chilly day, all freshly cooked local produce , very pleasant staff , always book as you never know when they are going to be busy , well done

Sunday lunch with family was a bit disappointing, the chicken breast was cooked to death but the beef was cooked just right. Sad to see that this place has so much potential that it's totally wasted. The venue is great and situated in the most pleasing of spots and with very affluent neighbours they could be no.1. The Sunday lunches used to be great and could be again.

We stayed here whist attending a wedding in Gosport The room was clean the breakfast was so big my husband could not eat it all and the porridge was as good as any I have tasted the staff were very friendly and the owner did every thing he could to make our visit enjoyable cant say enough about it

This is a fab place and nothing was too much trouble. Mike and staff are a credit to Alverstoke. I inadvertently booked a twin room instead of a double and although no double was available at the time Mike ensured we were moved as soon as one became available, even moving all of our stuff to the new room whilst we were out. Food as also delicious, chef cooks an amazing steak.

After receiving the starter we were not attended to by the waitress again, she was arguing outside regarding her shift pattern and the bartender had to bring out our meals. We ordered water and receivied none. The risotto was too salty to eat and we had finished our meals half an hour before our plates were cleared. The manageress clearly saw our full plates and still sent the young bartender out to deal with the situation. Even after complaining to him that the dish was inedible the manager made no effort to come and rectify the situation and stayed in the bar chatting and left the young man (very polite) to deal with it. We were deducted the price of the risotto and offered a free drink but by this time it was late. Disappointing!

Well what I can say we all went out for a family dinner I had the mix grill it came out just as I asked for it to be cooked we all enjoyed our meals the price was good for the value The staff was very helpful . will definitely return to eat again

Although not the most awful meal I've had, I can't say I really enjoyed anything about my meal tonight. No check back after meals arrived and after waiting quite a while for our plates to be cleared the lady that cleared us, didn't challenge my flat response regarding the 'ok' food. The price was good £23 for two burgers, extra chips and two soft drinks. Had heard some good things about the food in previous months, but other tables were also complaining about the quality of their meals. Maybe try again and hope for a better experience next time.

Had to travel to Gosport from Somerset for a family wedding down the road so booked The Old Lodge online. We were able to check in straight away, be greeted by the owner who was very welcoming & showed us to our rooms & carried our bags. Lovely rooms, well equipped, modern décor. Then downstairs for a drink in the outside garden area, nice to see lots of people sat outside using the hotel. Bar, restaurant and Lounge looked clean, friendly and modern. Great that we could come back anytime we wanted at the end of the night (which was the early hours!) & use our key to get in. Fab nights sleep in a very comfortable bed after a few too many ciders which was then soaked up by a delicious full English, endless tea, coffee & juice! Owner was always around - welcomed us down in the morning, served us breakfast along with others in the hotel single handed, chatted with us about our evening out and checked us out - overall fab, really enjoyed our time so thank you. Maybe see you again but hopefully not for a family wedding which was like an episode of Eastenders!! :)

Went for an evening meal with friends. I have not eaten here before and won't again. I felt the prices where high for what you got. My chicken salad was a bit flat - a few more leaves would not go amiss. I thought my wine glass smelt. I should have asked for another my own fault. As for the puddings, they all sounded nice and with a £6.50 price tag you expect something special. I ordered chocolate brownie and ice cream. Whether there was an ice cream shortage I do not know but the brownie came with the most pathetic slither of ice cream! Very poor. The ambiance was zero - no atmosphere or background music. There were kids still about in the bar area after 10pm! At least it was good to catch up with friends but that is all. To add to it I have a very upset stomach this morning so had to rate at it's lowest I am afraid.

Spent two nights at Old Lodge and everything was fine but if you want a peaceful night don't accept rooms overlooking the front. Both nights were noisy until the early hours. The breakfast was excellent. We were disappointed on returning to our room Saturday, after being out all day, that our room had not been serviced. Not withstanding the above we would definitely return to this hotel.

Lovely lunch and short stay here recently. Highly recommended - the staff make you very welcome and nothing is too much trouble.

Sailor Friendly, clean, reasonably priced and a decent breakfast. The Old Lodge is a convenient place to stay when in Gosport.

Went to The Old Lodge on Mother's Day just gone to celebrate also my good friends visiting and also my good friend's daughters 3rd birthday got to say The Old Lodge made us feel relaxed and welcome as always and accommodated all our needs. The Old Lodge is warm and welcoming and welcomes also children and is dog friendly.

A lovely place to sit and have a quiet drink. The rugby was on the to in the lounge area but wasn't overly busy. The bar is small but has a lovely range of drinks and served with a smile. Quite rightly so they have their 4 in a bed winners certificate proudly on the wall as you enter the property. Lovely, clean and spotless and will be back. Thank you old lodge for your hospitality.

The restaurant was under half full with just two tables occupied by a parties of 8 and 6 respectively. There were serious problems with the service and food. The staff seemed to be occupied much of the time elsewhere so we even had to help ourselves to menus. Starters: The soup of the day was so thick that it resembled a pasta dish rather than soup. The cold meats served as part of a mezzo were rancid. Mains: Three of our party ordered the chicken butterfly with differing sauces. These dishes featured cold mashed potato containing ice.I do not like to give bad reviews, but am making an exception in this instance.Suffice to say that I will not be returning to The Old Lodge and have advised my friends and family to do the same.

Having had an unpleasant experience prior to our arrival here at The Old Lodge, we were relieved to find a good option for our meeting and evening dinner. The service was good, the food excellent and served by friendly staff. We would recommend this hotel / restaurant.

I visited for lunch on my own. I ordered fish and chips. When they came, the batter was nice and crispy, but falling off the fish, the chips and peas were lukewarm. I chose not to complain about the chips and peas because the fish was hot and if the dish had gone back, the fish would not have been so nice.The room I was in was cold. The radiator was on very low, but a window was open with an orange flex running out - I know not where.I objected to being asked to move my car so that the landlord could park close to the door. Really - I was disturbed so that he could walk two or three feet less to the door. I had just about warmed up, when I had to go outside to move my car. I was so cold.Just a general air of malaise about the place - can't put my finger on it. Maybe I was cold...

We visited as part of a family group on an important family occasion. Due to external time constraints we had agreed with the restaurant that we would arrive for the earliest available lunch booking. On the day, we ordered at 11.45, in a completely empty restaurant, and did not receive our starters until 1.15, with the main course arriving at 1.40. The food, when it finally arrived, was cold, on cold plates and served in a room where the only heating was provided by a wooden stove. The young waitress was pleasant and trying to provide good service but clearly suffering from lack of training and lack of management. The manager walked through the room in which we were generally asking "all ok?", but doing nothing about the silence that followed. There was no communication at all about when the food would turn up, or apologies when it was late. Eventually, when the main courses turned up 1hr and 55 minutes after we had ordered them, cold and mostly uneatable, the manager was summoned and, in response to complaints from our host, waived the cost of the meal. While this dealt with the fact that the food was bad quality, cold and late, it did not make up for ruining an emotional weekend which had, until that point, been going very well. Having wasted two hours waiting for food we did not eat, we then had to leave in a rush (due to the time constraint mentioned above) and hungry.We shall not return.

This venue was booked for the wake of my mother-in-law's funeral. The venue was booked for 60 guests with a buffet with Bonnie telling us that there would be 'loads of food' and that 'there's always food left over'. The full amount of the cost of the venue was paid in advance of the funeral.On the day of the wake, the staff seemed surprised to see us - we arrived 30 mins after our booking time and the room was not ready for us, leading me to think they forgot about our booking.The staff then notified us that the 'buffet' was ready - it was barely enough to feed 20 people, let alone 60. Such was the lack of food, our guests ended up going to the village fish and chip shop and bring the food back to the venue so that they didn't go hungry - causing us huge embarrassment that the buffet we paid for was not enough to fee our guests.When the wake had finished and we were getting ready to go home, one of the staff members then approached my father in law asking for more money to settle the account, we kindly reminded them that the account was paid in full in advance, the staff member apologised but the entire day was poorly managed from start to finish.The wake was held at the Lodge on 23rd September 2015. A letter of complaint was sent on 9 October 2015 to Mike & Natasha by Special Delivery which was received and signed for by them - there has been no reply to this letter.A secondary letter of complaint to chase this up was sent on 18 November 2015 to Mike & Natasha, again by special delivery which was received and signed for and still no reply.The venue itself is lovely and in a great location and my family have used it many times over the years, however, under it's present management the place is a shambles and I would urge anyone thinking of using this venue to go elsewhere.

I booked a party of 10 for the restaurant for my birthday (21 again) we were told when booking that the bar menu was 2 for 1 and the restaurant menu would also be available. On arrival we had a warm welcome and a drink in the bar. On seating in the restaurant we were told that there was no restaurant menu available and the bar menu was very limited (I guess they ordered less as it would be quiet) however, I wanted to order something that was out of stock and the chef made it for me and we got a complimentary bottle of wine. The lady that served us was very nice and helpful and gave me a birthday hug at the end of the evening. In fact the food was lovely and we had a great evening. They didn't mind the kids running about as it was quiet. In my opinion this is what good customer service is all about, they could have told us to sling our hook but they made sure we had a good evening. Thank you old Lode, we will be back to try the restaurant menu when it is in stock.

great Hotel,stayed 2 nights while at Goodwood Revival,great rooms,Yummy breakfast and staff were very friendly & welcoming.if you eat here I recommend the home made burger...Delish!!!!

The best steak...been several times and always good quality and good value. Friendly layed back atmosphere. Not rushed. Love it

Came here for a meal for my brothers birthday on a Wednesday. We booked a table but the restaurant was very quiet. I have never eaten here before as I have heard mixed reviews but my brother likes it.The staff quickly showed us to our table and took our drinks order. She explained the menus and said it was steak night. There were many things on the menu I wanted but opted for a fillet steak with triple fried chips. The steak was cooked perfectly & was very tender, the chips were the best chips I have had in ages. The staff were regularly checking we were ok for drinks etc.Had a great meal, loved the options on the steak menu where you can add extras to your meal. Prices were ok.The main meal was enough for me but if I was to have a starter and dessert, as I don't eat wheat I would like to see more options on the menu for non wheat eaters.Get yourself there on a Wednesday for Steak night. Food was great and I will definitely be returning.Thank you

we booked well in advance and paid deposit, for a nice meal to celebrate my son`s 30th birthdayOn arrival there were no tables were set up for us, we had to do this our selves, and we found we had been shoved into the public bar with live rugby onWhen the starters finaly arrived there was no cutlery to eat them and they were wrongMain meals finaly arrive (very late) they were also wrongPerson in charge was rude and drunk!!!!!Customers from a party in the main dining room came in and turned the tv volume right up which promptly ended a diasterous disapiontment of an eveningI would never return to eat or drink there the food and the so called service was a disgrace.

Seemingly a good range of food, let down by the quality of cooking and presentation. Everything took place at a snail's pace, taking over 30 minutes for the starter to arrive, a further 30 minutes for the main course and 15 minutes for the dessert menu to be offered. The vegetable soup was warm and needed drastic seasoning. The cassoulet was poor, promising cannellini beans but delivering sweet potato: the duck was tough. The sea bass was over-cooked and served fragmented on the plate - its sauce flavourless. The service was poor with the servers unaware of the need to clear and clean tables between courses. We will not be dining there again!

No customer service at all. Did not get as far as checking in as noisy fun day. Had to,park in road, could not find reception. Left standing in crowded bar. Person who attempted to book us in no customer service skills at all. Put off from start and did not even stay there. So rude and dreadful boost atmosphere. Worst place ever book via booking.com avoid like the plague

Have been here several time now. Meals are excellent, if a little pricey. Very friendly staff and atmosphere. Nice for a change :-)
