The Old Inn in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

This is an amazing country pub, the chips are incredible! Portion sizes are great and it’s good value for money. The sausages are so good and there is a very big menu with something for everyone.

Dog friendly, people friendly, excellent food and drink. One of the nicest pubs we’ve been to! Lovely Darren, (we called him crazy Labrador guy who owns this pub), has even put a dog station at the entrance of the pub! There are barrels of water on tap, dog biscuits galore, treats etc. we loved going there and can’t wait to be back at St. Breward to visit again.

What an amazing place ,food was delicious and plenty of it. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back . Can honestly say it was the best lasagne I've ever had .

Very friendly accommodating staff. All the pub classics on the normal menu but a huge selection of interesting items on the specials board. Very tasty food but make sure you bring your appetites!

Yummy food. Brilliant service. You pay for what you get! As my husband relies on his wheelchair I'm afraid you just lose a star rating for toilet access. There was no dedicated disabled toilet and although there was a beautiful disabled cubicle in the ladies toilets I was not able to get him in to it as there were some steps up to a normal width doorway at 90 degrees at the top of them. Even with a ramp the slope would be too steep to make an immediate safe 90 degree turn into the doorway even if his wheelchair could get through it. There needs to be a big enough flat platform at the top of any ramp to perform a safe 90 degree turn. We are used to making do as we understand old pubs do have difficulty in accommodating wheelchairs. It' usually a.compromise. But this particular disabled loo was just too difficult to get to. You might even call it a tease. Lovely pub otherwise.

Absolutely incredible food so beautifully cooked great flavours! Great atmosphere and staff were brilliant nothing was too much trouble.

I took my wife to the Old Inn for lunch on our anniversary. We both had the veggie curry , my wife eat hers although she didn’t enjoy it, I couldn’t eat mine as it was very poor. Half cooked vegetables in a green gravy is how I would describe it which is a shame because this was my wife’s favourite local eatery.

Great food as always. We had a lot of different meals and they all came out perfect.

Food was fine, service was erratic. We struggled to get the bill. Was very disappointed in the knickerbocker Glory ordered. It was a glass 3/4 full of tinned fruit with a small amount of icecream on it. Loads of cream and sauce on the top but very disappointing.

Connor and the team always provide great service, and the food never disappoints. Lovely country pub feel. Happy days. Steve J

We chose to eat at The Old Inn for our anniversary, as the food has always been very good. Whilst the food was nice (albeit the rib eye steak disappointing for the price), and the various dinning spaces on offer, along with good atmosphere (& live band), we were shocked at the bill total. Adding service charge at 12.5% just takes the pleasure out of eating out. And £11 for a glass of wine. There wasn't much change from £100 for 2 alcoholic drinks, 2 main meals & 2 coffee's!!

The Old Inn is a lovely place, the service excellent, however, the food is average pub fare..

Unfortunately the quality of the food was not what we hoped. It was basic pub grub but not very tasty. Our waiter did not seem to be enjoying his job and we asked him for water 3 times, eventually we asked his colleague who brought it. It is a lovely pub, but quite pricey considering the quantity.

Sitting outside in this terrible was essential. The staff were diligent and friendly. The food came promptly. The only problem was that the Old Inn was very busy. Lots of other people had decided that eating out was a good plan. The Old Inn is even nicer in the winter when there are less customers.

I booked the table at the Old Inn for me, my husband, Colin, our daughter & son-in-law. It’s my husband’s birthday so it was a (low key -he’s 81!) bit of a celebration. The staff were welcoming, friendly & efficient & the pub has a very nice atmosphere. The food is excellent; my daughter & I shared a baked Camembert to start, the birthday boy had one to himself & son in law had pate. For main, I chose the vegetable curry, Lucy had the vegan tartlet, Dom had a Wagyu burger & Colin had the pork belly. Colin & I ordered ice cream for dessert & Colin’s came, complete with a firework blazing away in the dish. What a lovely touch! I think the other diners enjoyed it too! Top marks again for the Old Inn.

The Old Inn is our absolute favourite go to pub/restaurant. Everything is 5 stars but the food and the service is much more. Nice to go somewhere, where the staff all make a point of getting to know you, especially Connor. Does not matter how busy they are we always have really good food and service. Thank you everyone at The Old Inn you are amazing.

Excellent evening meal at the Old Inn again. Very friendly staff and lovely sunny spot for an early dinner.

We turned up about 10min early of our 7pm booking and although we had a booking for a table outside nothing had been reserved, by 7pm all tables outside were full. The food and service were absolutely excellent, and waiting time was very quick. As I have been there before we were recognised as familiar faces, so a nice relaxed atmosphere Very impressed overall

Lovely celebratory meal. Food was delicious, we had 2 courses so sampled the pate, tempura prawns and Camembert. All delicious. For mains the sea bass, rib-eye and pie. Steak was cooked to perfection and the sea bass was full of flavour. Excellent service and suggestions for drinks.

This is a lovely country pub. The outside seating area is lovely, lots of plants and flower and comfy seating. The food was really good. It is pricey, but I had zero complaints with mine, so I was happy to pay that price. My only issue was that we inadvertently ordered a really expensive bottle of wine, but didn't actually see a wine list so weren't quite prepared for that cost at the end. Partly our fault for not asking, but unusual not to have a wine list with the menus. The staff were fab. Would absolutely recommend - just ask for the wine list before you order the Malbec ;)

Four of us went on Sunday lunch time. We received a friendly welcome when we arrived. We were shown to our reserved table. A guy came to take our drinks order. Then we were given our menus. Lots of choice. Starters two Brie one Camembert and a prawn cocktail which was full of prawns with a very tasty sauce. Two pork belly roasts and two chicken breasts in a lovely mushroom sauce, all with a selection of freshly cooked vegetables. One battered banana, one cheesecake and two lots of mint choc chip scoops. All the food was neatly presented. The service was professional and friendly all the various staff seemed very happy and helpful. The prices have gone up a bit, as they have in most places, but we felt was fine for the quality of food and service.

A previous visit for a roast on Mother’s Day was excellent but on this occasion the food was a bit disappointing. Four of us had burgers which at £18 and £20 per potion was a tad basic to say the least. The meat quality was good but some salad wouldn’t have gone amiss and maybe some additional greens or peas for that price!

My wife and I decided to eat out this weekend and chose The Old Inn. We always enjoy eating there. Good food well cooked with a wide choice of menu. The staff are always polite, respectful and friendly. We both had a seafood starter (whitebait and tempura prawns) and the pork belly for our main courses. Well recommend these dishes.

Another lovely experience. The food was excellent as always the staff were very attentive which added to the overall experience.

The food was not as good as in our many previous times there and the Dorset Crab salad had a huge piece of “Plastic” buried inside. The Steak and Ale pie which we were informed was made to the exact same recipe had No pieces of steak as in previous times of eating. Overall I’m sorry to say this was not one of the good times of eating here.

The fabulous weather enhanced what was a truly great visit. The staff are attentive, friendly and fun, and the food was delicious. Lovely gardens and outdoor seating with a covered outdoor eating area with heaters when needed. The menu offers plenty of choice. We last visited April 2023 on a recommendation by the owner of a caravan site we were staying on and we’re back at that site again so that we could easily visit The Old Inn again….on consecutive days. We won’t leave it another year before returning ☺️

Absolutely wonderful place for a Sunday lunch! I took my lovely stepdad here on Fathers Day last year and this year, and plan to do so for years to come. We’ve already made some great memories and look forward to our next family visit already.

The Old Inn is my most favourite place to eat. It's set in beautiful Dorset countryside. The food is exceptional & I really don't like eating anywhere else. The prices are really good & much more than I can finish eating. The ambience is great with both inside & outside eating areas. The staff are attentive & can't do enough for you. I would thoroughly recommend The Old Inn.

I would definitely recommend The Old Inn . Went for evening meal the food was lovely and the service is great. We were staying at local caravan site and will be using the pub next time we are in the area.

Always excellent food, the only thing that lets them down every time is speed of service. We waited 20-25 mins to order drinks after we sat down, the jug of tap water then proceeded to take another 25 mins after being asked for 3 times! Food was delicious can’t fault it maybe do some more training on service side. Staff are polite just very slow and forgetful.

Although it’s a lovely setting. Unfortunately was left disappointed. As someone who is gluten intolerant I was left quite upset when told they would make sure my salad was gluten free to find croutons hidden underneath. We had also been forgotten about so had not received the salt that I had asked for 20 minutes prior. When asking about the croutons the waiter went to double check to confirm they were not gluten free and confirmed “what can we do we did tell the chef” No offer to fix the situation and just walked away. I don’t like to make a fuss so paid for the meal but as I’m sure you can appreciate service charge swiftly removed. Justice for those with gluten intolerances. Also an extra £3 for a GF pizza half the size of a usual pizza is just not fair.

It was my birthday yesterday, so I booked lunch for three of us. When we arrived, we were welcomed by the friendly staff and shown to our table. The restaurant is smart and bright and is in a really pretty setting, in the Dorset countryside. We ordered drinks, which arrived swiftly & ordered our meals by from the varied & tempting menu. My husband had a starter of fried Brie with cranberry sauce; as my daughter & I have quite small appetites, we went straight to the main course. Husband had beef stroganoff, which he said was excellent; I had fried salmon with mash, a delicious sauce & a selection of perfectly cooked vegetables. Daughter chose a vegan tart, which was served with chips & a salad. Everything looked appetising & tasted as good as it looked. The staff were friendly, helpful & attentive. It was our first visit to the Old Inn but we look forward to visiting again soon.

We arrived early so sat outside with a G&T. The service fab as always, food superb. It's quite a limited menu ( if you leave out the burgers and pizzas) but everything on there is done to perfection. Can't really fault anything about this place. Beautiful location, wonderful decor, excellent choice of spirits,gins especially. Every member of staff appears to really enjoy their work. The rear garden is a fantastic place to while away and afternoon with a tasty pizza in very pleasant surroundings. If money was no object we'd wat there every day

Went for Sunday lunch and was lovely to sit outside. Food and service was really good and couldn’t fault it but the cost was so much! We had 2 pizzas, side of fries and 2 drinks and it came to £70!! For lunch and for pizzas I thought it was far too much. Absolutely I could have checked the prices before and if I had I probably would have gone elsewhere but I didn’t think pizza would cost so much. I would recommend it to people but make them aware at how expensive this place is

It was a rather noisy small table in the corner and we had a large party of eight one side of us and another large party in the small room next door 👍

I’ve been to the Old Inn numerous time and this was the worst it’s ever been.. the sea bass was no where near a tasty as before - in fact there was no ginger! The Mediterranean tart was ok but nothing more.. was disappointing having been really pleased on previous visits … based on this occassion I wouldn’t recommend the Old Inn

Decided to dine out for Sunday lunch at the last minute. Booked a table for 1215 and arrived at 1200. We were shown straight to our table by a friendly member of staff. Our drinks order was taken quickly and we were given plenty of time to decide on our meal choices. As always, a good selection of choices, both starters, mains and desserts. Good food was delivered to the table for each course with staff being very attentive and efficient. Love dining at the Old Inn and definitely recommend it as a great place to eat and dine.

Won't be back. This is our 2nd bad experience. Prosecco arrived flat, pizza not cooked through (dough raw). Challenge getting the order we made to the table, 1 glass of wine arrived instead of 2 etc.

Popped in for lunch and was very impressed. Ordered steak pie and sea bass; both dishes were excellent. Staff were very pleasant.

I enjoy everything about coming here. It always seems to be good!

Used to come back every year. Never again! We came into the bar and witnessed a pink haired lady behind the bar shouting at a member of staff - so unprofessional! The same lady then proceeded to bark orders at us as we were seated for a carvery: we didn’t know if was a good thing or not that she seemed to have the same attitude with everyone. Customers and staff. We were then served by a sullen young girl behind the bar who said to her colleague ‘I can’t wait to leave here, had enough of this’ in our earshot! The queue for the carvery was long so we opted for meals and they took 40 minutes. Whilst the portions were huge, it was mediocre at best. The famous chips we had returned for were floury in texture and lukewarm. The curry was mostly sauce and the jacket potato was rock hard. We really used to enjoy visiting whenever we came to cornwall but we won’t be doing so again. What has happened to the friendly staff and nice atmosphere? Never before have I felt compelled to write a review on here until now :(

Always good service here and pleasant ambience. I often worry that if the menu in restaurants is too vast then the food is all pre-prepared - it isn’t here. Even the Crème Brûlée is a proper one - unusual these days.

Such welcoming staff, they couldn't do enough to help our table of 8 with kids to feel at ease. Food was incredible and just a really nice ambience to enjoy a birthday gathering.
