We stayed for 2 nights and were looked after superbly by the lovely family owners. The food was simply wonderful and their company was really enjoyable. Close to excellent hiking trails (our purpose for staying) and various points of interest I would recommend to everyone.

What a great find. Went for dinner as the landlady was already cooking for residents. Friendly and welcoming, both landlady and the young waitress. All good home cooked fare which you can pre order. We had the pork casserole with damson and a pie crust with plenty of accompanying vegetables. Delicious. Wish we had booked for the second night too but the people we sat next to had a beautiful sea bass, a chicken and chorizo meal, both of which they said was outstanding. Would recommend.

I stayed in one of the glamping pods for two nights so that I’d be at our starting point for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. The pod was clean and tidy with a shower, toaster, kettle, crockery, cutlery, fridge, wall heater, sofa and bunk bed. It was particularly windy the first night and the pod shook a little but it all added to the sense of adventure. The pub itself is cosy, serving delicious home cooked meals to residents. There were a couple of good ales on tap and the Malbec is good. The drinks weren’t overpriced. The staff were polite and friendly. I’d stay there again for sure.

We stayed here for two nights in November. Our second stay here. Bean the owner is brilliant, she provides a comfortable, clean, homely place to stay. The pub is old, welcoming and full of charm. Always a roaring fire to warm you up after a day out walking. Being central to the Yorkshire 3 peaks it really is an ideal location for walkers or couples wanting to get away from it all. The views are amazing. Breakfast and evening meals made by Bean are absolutely amazing! And the puddings are a real treat, it’s hard to choose between them! I couldn’t speak more highly of the service Bean and her family provide. It is always at the top of my list of my favourite places to stay! We are booking another trip back to the old hill inn soon!

We booked a two night stay as our base to do the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, and what an excellent choice it proved to be. We had excellent weather for our walk, but what really made it for us was the quality of the food and drink, and the friendliness of all the staff. My daughter and I had the Sea Bream and my Son-in-Law the Lamb Shank. The fish was beautifully cooked and the lamb rated as awesome, and the best I have ever had. Desserts were of the same high standard. Add to this the fact that the staff could not do enough for you, and the breakfast equally enjoyable and I would say that this was as close to perfect as possible. Don’t worry if you’re not doing the 3 peaks, it is still an ideal place for some r&r, and to explore the beautiful scenery that surrounds this fabulous hostelry. Thank you for all you did for us, and a special hello to Humphrey.

Stayed here for two nights as I'd signed up for the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge. This is where the challenge starts so this was my main motivation for booking this hotel. But having now completed my stay there's so much more too it. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff who go well out their way to provide. Superb food that is cooked to 5* quality. I had three meals there and they were all extremely delicious. The rooms were clean and very spacious. Ideal if you've brought extra bags for a long trek and also very comfortable. Thank you for an excellent stay!!!

Bean and the family team made our stay so special. This is pub cooking and humble hospitality on another level. Roaring fire, comfy beds, ancient beams and simple dishes with delicious homemade twists. The desserts, by sugar sculptor and ex-Ritz pâtissière, will have you considering more than one each. Breakfast was brilliant as well. We didn’t want to leave. COVID may have taken the people out of the pub (for now) but it has definitely still got its heart and soul. I’d planned to do the Three Peaks walk for a while and hadn’t expected to find the Old Hill open in this time of Covid. Fortunately they were open for residential stays and I was able to book two nights. I had eaten there a couple of years before and it was great to see that the delicious home cooked food is still that - delicious home cooked food. The building has a relaxed old fashioned charm to it and my room was well presented and scrupulously clean. So too was the bathroom and shower. A manky bathroom where I’m staying is a major turn-off but this was excellent. Tea and coffee making stuff was provided in the room.I was made to feel very welcome throughout my stay - even though I had to start the walk early a cold breakfast was left out for me.The Old Hill Inn may not look like much when you drive past, but inside is something really quite special. I thoroughly recommend this place and will certainly be back.

The owners or landlord had about as much interpersonal skill as Hitler! I think this place is a "has been" and has traded on old reputations or the physical attributes of the building itself rather than the service and welcome from the man in charge here. I would avoid falling into the trap of making this a destination to stop unless you were absolutely sure you couldn't get refreshment from the pubs at the other sides of the two hills it nestles between. The side of this building looks dirty and unkempt these days after a recent walk past. Something akin to a horror movie motel in the moors appearance which is sad as this could be such a welcoming place with the right people on the customer facing side of the bar. Please don't be prepared for anything other than a captive audience and a "you'll get what you're given or walk over the hill to find better if you don't like it" approach. Sad times for this apparently once lovely lady in the valley.

We went through the rather dark entrance of this fifteenth century inn into the bar/dining room and were immediately welcomed warmly. The barman was very friendly as he served our drinks and took our orders in the stone-floored room which had plain wooden tables and a distinctly rustic style. We had to wait a while for our meals to be prepared but this is home cooking and worth waiting for.Three of us had beef casseroles which were delicious and served with perfectly cooked vegetables. My wife had a beetroot feta cheese salad which she pronounced first class. Our desserts of lemon tart with raspberries and raspberry coulis were amazing and we all but licked the plates so as not to miss any of it. Overall the meal was both tasty and filling and at little over £25 a head including our drinks was very good value. We can't wait for the next opportunity to eat at the Old Hill Inn.

Walked to the Old Hill Inn from Twisleton Scar and I have to say that the outside of the place wasn't that inviting. It needs a new coat of paint and some TLC. BUT when you venture inside it is absolutely delightful. We had a fantastic welcome from the staff on both occasions we went there, (after the first visit we made sure we went back). The food, though not the cheapest in the area, was superb. I had the 'Wild Rabbit' because I like to eat out on things I wouldn't normally eat at home, simply gorgeous. My wife had Steak and Ale pie but without the crust, which was an option. And to cap it all my wife then decided to have the 'Sticky Toffee Pudding' plus two spoons. As someone who doesn't normally eat desserts I can only say that I ate most of it! It was stunning and worth every penny. As I've said we went back with vegetarian friends and none of us was disappointed with the food, the service or the welcome. So if you are put off by the outside - just go in, it is fabulous with lots of interesting dishes.

I’m still revelling in the memory of the delicious slap up lunch I had at the Old Hill Inn. So good to see wild rabbit on the menu - and I wasn’t disappointed. Puddings here are spectacular. My sister’s chocolate indulgence came with raspberries, an amazing tower of sculpted chocolate and spun sugar. My almond orange cake basked in a deep puddle of creme anglaise and was topped with vanilla ice cream. I’m waxing lyrical here because I’m trying to do justice to the skill and confidence of the chefs. I just wish I lived nearer - I would be here every week instead of about once a year if I’m lucky.

We ate here after arriving late at night in the Dales on a Friday both delighted and surprised to get in. A really homely and welcoming pub that serves high end pub food at great prices. They take dogs as most do in the Dales. We had steak and ale casserole with a pie top and it was brilliant. The ale was great and we had the same ale elsewhere and it tasted nowhere near as good. Booked in here as a last minute with our motorhomes as we had been let down elsewhere. Firstly the camping bit. Hard standing and EHU - was a bit pricey at £16.50 given there were no other facilities. Reasonably flat though. The pub itself looks as if it had seen better days but once through the door, it couldn't have been better. Good ale, fantastic food and a very warm welcome. We ate in the dining room (7 of us including 2 children) and the service was top notch. Have to say that the sticky toffee pudding was the best I've ever had, with lots of sauce and as much cream as you like - and it was served in a bowl!!! The NYE celebrations were low key, just a few of us sat around a fire, but just how we like it. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful views of the Dales await visitors to this former farmhouse, later a drovers’ inn, parts dating from 1615. When Winston Churchill stayed here on hunting, shooting, fishing holidays, he no doubt enjoyed the bar, which these days serves eminent Yorkshire real ales like Black Sheep and Dent Aviator. A family of three chefs run the inn (one of whom makes sculptures from sugar). We went for an evening meal and the weather was stormy and it cut the power to the inn. Hastily arranged candles were lit and it gave a real rustic atmosphere to the place. A power generator kicked in and it enabled the chef to start cooking. Food was wonderful, local beers and friendly staff all added to a lovely evening.

This is an old building & it looks it, the interior is 'rustic' & atmospheric but welcoming. We arrived after a strenuous walk with a 'thirst'. This was soon remedied with some well kept local beers. The service was friendly & efficient, our meal arriving in an acceptable timescale, given that the veg were obviously freshly cooked. We both plumped for sausage & mash which in addition to a variety of fresh veg was a feast. The only down side (to me not my husband) was that the gravy was a bit too salty. Thought we would book in advance as it was a Friday night and in the school summer holidays but when we tried to book it was a ‘oh if we can fit you in, you will have to be early and order as soon as you arrive’ when we arrived we ordered straight away and was seated in a half empty bar then we waited an hour for our average meal to arrive. We then wanted to pay the bill separately as there was a group of us and frankly we were made to feel very uncomfortable as the bar maid tutted and seemed very put out while dealing with our payment. We often use the campsite opposite but in future will definitely drive the extra few miles to Horton Ribblesdale for a meal.

Had been to this pub then previous year and had questioned the hospitality back then and we also had an extremely long wait for food. However we returned to a nearby campsite this year so put previous experience down to ‘a bad day’ ‘just a one off’ which is why we went back in there, but on arrival it felt very much that they did not want our custom. Anyway we ordered our drinks, saying we would be paying separately after our meal. After a very long hour our food arrived, we were not informed why we had to wait so long, they did not seem busy nor was there any hospitality to us the paying customer, it truly felt like they were doing us a favour letting us eat there! The food was nice, but three of us (adults) were given a very small bowl of vegetables to share, and this was not made clear to us when it was put down in front of two of them, not sure why they could not communicate this to us when bringing our food.

Thoroughly enjoyed dinner at the Old Hill Inn, a unique place with superb food in fabulous countryside. Main courses were full of flavour and well presented. The desserts - lemon tart with raspberries and creams brûlée were very special and highly recommended, as is the local Dent beer. The countryside and Old Hill Inn are well worth going out of you way for.

Think about having a main course and a dessert rather than a starter. The desserts are fantastic. Lemon tart was so delicious and with home made ice cream too. Creme brulee was so thick and creamy, the orange salad with sugar coated peel really complemented it.

Booked a meal after the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was lovely. Nice atmosphere in the pub, local ale and nice gin selection.

Our B&B; host recommended coming here for evening food and we're glad she did! We had very nice food (steak & rabbit), and Bean was very friendly and allergy-conscious.

My wife and I stayed here for a night recently and on first impression the place feels 'odd'. But the owner Sabena made us feel really welcome and the evening meal was superb. Well cooked, very tasty food and lots of it - the sticky toffee pudding was the best I've tasted (the sauce was sublime). Breakfast the following day was excellent, well cooked, plenty and not greasy. OK, the prices might be higher than in the villages but you can see and taste why. Overlook its olde worlde feel (we felt it gives atmosphere and charm) and fill up in the ambience of the place. The fact that many tables were reserved speaks for itself. Great location too, with Ingleborough nearby.

We visited here for a family meal on a busy Sat evening. There were walkers using the beer garden and not long after we arrived all the tables inside were full of people dining out. Despite this there was a warm welcome and the service was good. We had steaks which were cooked perfectly and one of the party had the mussels with homemade bread which they said was excellent. The chocolate delight dessert was impressive. We would definitely recommend to others.

Lovely food and good service. Thank you for looking after us after our 3 Peaks Challenge. The drinks were very welcome and the service was prompt as we were all desperate to go home to bed.

We stayed in Arkholme over the bank holiday weekend and I searched for places to eat in the nearby area. This came highly recommended (on TripAdvisor) and I liked the fact it was slightly isolated in the middle of the countryside. I booked a table a few weeks in advance, which I'm glad about as they only had about 8/9 dining tables in total. This is a small place run by a family of chefs. They were very friendly and the service was good too. We had to wait half an hour for our starters to arrive but the main course came quickly after. The food itself was very good and reasonably priced. It seems to be a hot spot for walkers/hikers/dog walkers and campers (there's a campsite next to the pub). It looks pretty old from the outside as you'd expect from a 17th century building. But inside it is well kept, clean and cosy. Nice place and location...

The Old Hill Inn couldn't be better placed between Whernside and Ingleborough. Over the years we've had many beers and the odd bar meal at the Inn and we always find the staff very friendly and welcoming. There is a lovely green lawn to rest a wee while whether you're doing the Y3P, trimming over other hills, dog walking or just visiting the area. The bar meals are usual standard but the drinks always seem a wee bit more refreshing (for some reason)! Toilets and drinking water is available ... and if that is all you require I suggest you make a small donation in the honesty box.

I was told about the Old Hill Inn before I visited the area and was also told you must make a booking, which I found strange.

Visited for dinner one evening before climbing the three peaks, the food was lovely, however we found it to be very pricey. The young staff were very friendly.

Arrived in the rain. But this pub was a diamond find. From the outside it looks very bleak but was warm inside. The food was excellent. We especially liked the sticky toffee pudding which was the best we have every eaten. Caution...large portions! Can highly recommend.

Stayed at The Lister Arms for a couple of nights mid week. We stayed in the Lister Barn which is a 2 minute walk from the actual pub. Cosy and warm, tastefully decorated with lovely toiletries - a real gem of a place. The main pub is really cosy, with a gorgeous fire burning all day and evening. Breakfast and dinner here were both really good with large portions. Lots of dogs inside the bar area too which was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely return.

Fantastic place. Roll with bacon and sausage was lovely. Really good quality ingredients and perfectly cooked. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. I've been coming here on caving trips for 25 years and always either start or finish the day in Inglesport. Love it. The only thing I'd say... bring back the pints of tea!!! And please don't ever stop doing the tiffin, it is the best on the planet.

After driving around the Yorkshire Dale's, we were in need of a drink and snack. We came across this lovely little tearoom and we weren't disappointed, quirky and quaint I would say, very friendly, great value for money too.

On arrival the pub does not inspire confidence in the quality of food - but it was really very good. I was dubious about the sizes of sunday roasts after reading a previous review - and to be fair, the plates do not arrive loaded with masses of veg or mash. However, we all left feeling satisfied and it really felt like well prepared, high quality food. The steak and ale pie, and steak and ale yorkie had the same filling, which was superb.
