Absolutely fabulous Sunday Roast. Highly recommend, great friendly service, comfortable surroundings and ate far too much!! Just a slight blip one member of staff obviously poorly, wearing a mask would have been useful to protect customers from lurgy (even though not Covid). Hope get better soon though.

Stopped here whilst working away. I've honestly never been made to feel so welcome. Absolutely fantastic food, lovely local family run. Nothing is to much trouble. They do a cavery on a Sunday, something different food wise from there normal menu at the end of each month and the rooms are so comfy & clean. Thanks so much Alex , Tom ,Nikki and the whole team. 100% recommend ❤️

Myself and my partner stayed overnight in one of the rooms at the Old Hand and Diamond as we were attending a wedding in the area. All staff were friendly and helpful, the room was spacious, clean, cosy and had everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious too! Wish we could’ve stayed longer to enjoy more time at the pub. Would definitely recommend!

What a find this pub was, really friendly staff on arrival, booked motorhome stopover in advance and they even do EHU (not that we needed it, but good to know). Had a few drinks and then had the carvery. Choice of 4 meats, pigs in blankets, stuffing and veg. £19.95 for 3 courses or £14 for just just the carvery. We will definitely return when back in the area.

I think it is fair this establishment has a lot of room for improvement with many issues regarding the whole place. The one star is simply for the staff that still manage to keep up excellent service and politeness regardless of the fact they seem to be overworked and extremely ill treated guessing by the shouting i overheard during my visit, may i mention this shouting completely ruined the atmosphere and this is a common pattern i see within hospitality. You’re establishment would be nothing without the young people that dedicate their time to work for you and i think this is often forgotten.

We had not visited this pub for a good few years, and it will be a long time before going back, while there was nothing wrong with the food, it was just average, but as the prices were low, if would explain it, you get what you pay for.there are lots of places to eat around here (shrewsbury) so you need to stand out, this did not.

Having just left The Old hand and diamond following a 2 night stay, we felt we had to leave a review to show our appreciation for the accommodation, and experience as a whole. Upon our arrival we were greeted and shown to our room by a member of staff and asked whether we wanted to book a table for the night. We hadn’t considered this prior to our visit, but glad we chose to do so. Both enjoying the pie of the day, with plenty of thick gravy, peas and chips (may we suggest in future that a selection of seasonal vegetables would be appreciated). Our accommodation on the first floor was generously sized with a king size or large double bed, sofa, good sized TV and the usual other hotel furniture. En-suite shower room was a little on the cosy side but I know that this cannot be helped, being governed in construction by the original oak beams that provide a wealth of character to the suite. We slept very well and were surprised at how quiet the property and surrounding area was, once darkness fell. You could hear a pin drop, as so to speak! Breakfast the following morning was made up of various cereals, and a cooked full English. It was evident that fresh, quality produce had been supplied. The full day between our nights at the inn was spent at the helm of the hotel’s Morgan rental car. We had originally planned to tour local towns on the English side of the border, but following Ian’s advice to check out Lake Vyrnwy - a short drive away - we subsequently spent the rest of the day touring Bala lake and the Snowdonian hills and country roads. The Welsh views were spectacular and simply breath-takingly beautiful. The car performed faultlessly and was immaculately presented, being 2 years old and having only 7,000 miles “on the clock”. Part of the package included a picnic which was enjoyed by both of us, with sandwiches, crisps and other savoury treats. A flask of hot tea (that was still steaming many hours after we left) meant that we didn’t have to venture away from the car for refreshments and the only expenditure we had was topping the tank of the car up at the end of the day - £25 for a 120 mile trek seemed more than reasonable - and considerably more frugal than I was expecting for a true sports car! A 2 night break that shall remain with us for years to come. Thank you for your hospitality, and the memories made.

A lovely evening meal just after Christmas. Booked over the phone without any problems. We were seated on a table in front of the closed carvery area where I felt the table was an extra! We shared the area with a large family which then felt very empty when they left! I like to be in a restaurant where others are too, our table was a bit on its own! I sound moany and I don't want to as the staff couldn't have been nicer and the food was perfect! We had the fish pie and chicken tagliatelle - both really tasty and large servings. Followed by banoffi pie and sticky toffee pudding! Oh my, so full! The cost was more than reasonable - £45 which included 2 soft drinks each. We will definitely return.

But on this occasion there wasn't a problem, as we were happy to sit and have a few beers and chat.We opted for the carvery which was very good indeed. Had the turkey, while friends had a vegetarian version. Enjoyed all the trimmings. We followed this with the cheescake.Friendly helpful staff, good service, apart from the booking problem. My husband and friend opted for the pheasant but it was dry and extremely hard to cut. Their vegetables arrived quite a while after. They had to ask for the main meal to be replaced. Fortunately the replacement was cooked better but it was still very tasteless. And no fresh veggies were brought out. Another friend chose the lamb tagine but again she found it to be tasteless. I noticed on a friends pie the pastry was white and appeared undercooked but the puddings were nice. Real shame as we got asked to vacate the table at 10pm so they could make the table up ready for the next day, unfortunately this just encouraged us to go instead of ordering drinks as we were comfortable and there's nowt like being asked out of the room to spoil the moment.

We visited on Good Friday for an anniversary meal with the family after someone recommended their Sunday carvery to me. When we arrived we were allowed a bit of time to settle down and choose our food. There was never the feeling of being hurried up so that they could use the table for someone else and the restaurant was very quiet with the adjacent bar packed. After choosing, the food didn't take long to arrive with accompanying plates of salad and chips. Most of us had ordered steak, which were cooked perfectly and were delicious, as were the onion rings. My dad chose steak and ale pie which was huge and packed with delicious, tender meat and my son chose lasagne which was also very good. The waiter asked us if we wanted any more chips and another plate was brought out shortly after to satisfy the appetites of my hungry teenage boys. Not many places are this attentive and it was really appreciated. Apart from the food, everything was clean with the only negative being that the decor is a little dated. We will definitely be returning shortly for some more of this delicious, plentiful food.

Stayed here last night after attending a wedding at Rowton Castle, they have their own mini bus which took us to and from the the b and b to Rowton castle at no extra charge, only a tip for the driver if you wished, worth a tip we thought, lovely clean bright room, lovley bathroom, comfy bed, tea and coffee, no problem at all, had breakfast which was very tasty, we did not have a evening meal here so cannot comment on that but there were plenty of people in when we arrived lunch time and when we went out at 7pm, staff very pleasant, would definatley stay here again and reccommend to anyone staying in the area, rates were very good we thought, Thank you

I visited recently for a friend's 30th birthday. The staff were friendly and the bar stocks excellent beer. We had the 3 course Sunday carvery. I fully recommend this. There was no scrimping on the portions. I had soup which was like a meal in itself although I got food envy over the garlic and stilton mushrooms. The carvery was excellent. A good choice of veg and the meat was tender. The puddings were also good. I didn't have much room so I opted for the lemon tart. I would definitely return

We stopped here on our way from the Shrewsbury Station. This was our second visit (first time for the Sunday Carvery) and it was as good as the first time. The service was friendly and quick. The menu looks nice, there is a two for one until 19.30 on some nights. There are also several specials of the day. Food is good, especially for pub food. Tasty and portions are good. There is a large parking.

Well it really does pain me to give this 1 star but I suppose you have to be honest if the service is awful!!! Yesterday evening I was out at this establishment with two friends about to have dinner, we booked a table and ordered with no hassle, when the food came looked very nice and with no haste BUT then on my first bite of what can only be described as a giant flaccid rubber steak ( meant to be a sirloin cooked Rare ) was about as bouncy as my dogs KoNg toy!! As my first and only bite I swallowed to my surprise being stuck in my windpipe and conceded to choke ( very scary ) as my friend rushed up to start banging on my back to dislodge said steak nobody rushed in it asked if I was alright in fact I wasn't alright I was choking!!! My friend then gave me the Heimlich manoeuvre to dislodge this so called sirloin. As this went in we moved into the car park and after much worry and stress the steak piece dislodged itself!! Thankfully!! After this we decided to leave as you can imagine but not till going to bar to tell the barmaid to which she replied "oh was it you that wasn't feeling very well!!" No no madam I was fine when I came in but didn't no I was about to cheat death by chewing on a rubber bone. And the lovely couple sat opposite us whom sat there and watched me choking on my knees... Thank you!!

Despite living quite close I've only recently discovered this little gem. We made a last minute decision to go there for the Sunday carvery and despite us only booking that morning and them being very busy they fitted us in. The carvery was absolutely delicious, it is a little pricier than others I've been to in the area, but well worth it. Locally sourced excellent meat and perfect vegetables, yummy!

We have been popping in for lunch on our way home from North Wales. Today we had our grandchildren with us. I think we must have had 'suckers' written across our foreheads! The food was extortionate! One grandchild had two sausages and a couple of spoonfuls of mash, £5.50 . NO VEG! I was offered the vegetarian nut roast, and one and a half small slices arrived on the plate. NO VEG, to accompany this a dish of chips was presented. £8.90. SADLY THIS WILL BE OUR LAST VISIT

We decided to make a detour on our return from holiday in Wales, looking for somewhere to sit outside on a gloriously sunny day. We found the hand and diamond, by good fortune. We both decided to chose from the "snack" menu, and Can say that the steak sandwich was unbelievable. The quality, quantity and overall experience was a wonderful ending to a lovely holiday.

We have been visiting The Drover's for around 25 years. As a full Family initially, now just the two of us. Peter and his Team never disappoint. The welcome is always friendly and we do enjoy a modest pre Lunch drink in the cosy snug out the back. The views of the river are spectacular. It was a bit chilly to be sitting outside on the balcony but one brave chap did take his coffee out there! The food, well, you can't call it 'just Sunday Lunch! It's a foodie treat! Plenty of beautifully cooked food. Always hot and tasty. The quality is certainly there as well. Cannot fault anything and the Sweets are to die for! The atmosphere is invariably pleasant. A good mixture of Walkers, Holiday makers and Locals. Thanks so much for everything over the years Peter. We're already in the process of booking next year's trip to Wales, so keep an eye out for an email soon!

Our first time here this morning. From the minute we walked in we was welcomed and seated. All staff were welcoming. Myself and fiancé ordered a full English, food was lovely not one fault and clear plates. I had a cappuccino which was tasty and perfect. We were approached and asked if everything was okay during our meal. We paid with cash and left a tip as we were very pleased. We will definitely be attending again on our next stay.

Great place to stay. A friend and I cycled to the area and stayed here overnight. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. The room is a generous size with all the facilities you would want, and you have access to an outside deck area with lounge chairs and table which is ideal on a sunny day. The breakfast was also lovely. The location was great as it’s a 5 min walk from 2 good pubs and a post office/shop

Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.
