Fab food! Staff were lovely and sooooo good/patient with our kids. Honestly couldn’t fault the place will definitely be back with the family or for a date without the kids.

After arriving and ordering drinks no one arrived to take our food order, ok ordered at the bar a table of 8-10 arrived ordered at the table? , 40 mins later food arrived for 10..so decided to cancel, He...Ho... order never sent to kitchen ( ,to busy chatting??) pay for drinks...3 ordered 2 on bill .so staff ...try harder ...take away for us ..???

There’s probably no such thing as “The Perfect Country Pub” but The Gate at Heathton, near Claverley, gets very close. Consider the boxes that need to ne ticked Setting. In a small, quiet country village. Tick Ample outdoor seating area decorated with baskets of flowers. Tick Free house. Not tied to a brewery. Tick Olde Worlde pub with ageing timbers, low ceilings, mismatched and well used furniture, open fires in winter. Tick Good range of real ales, well kept and well served. Tick. In fact, The Old Gate is one of the very few pubs that sells both of the Black Country’s great ales, Bathams Bitter and Enville Ale Great food, cooked fresh, in ample quantities and at affordable prices. Tick. Huge starters and a superb steak and kidney pie. Two huge starters and two substantial main courses, just 36 quid A helpful staff that clearly enjoys what they do and does it very well. Tick Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe there really is such a thing as a “The Perfect Country Pub” after all.

What a beautiful country pub . We opted for the ploughman's lunch and was not disappointed it was without doubt the best we've ever tasted . This really is a hidden gem . We will be back again and again

We popped into this lovely old pub this afternoon, just for a quick pint while we were there we observed how the staff dealt with customers, A couple came in in the early 70s and were told quite sternly by a very obnoxious manager They were not allowed to sit at the table because it was reserved. even though the couple were made to stand for the duration of their drink, the seats remained empty on the reserve table. the manager didn’t have the common sense to allow them to use the seats until the reserve party came into the pub. needless to say, I’m sure the older couple won’t be returning, and to be honest, I don’t think we will either

With cheering open fires, this old building tastefully restored is cosey and homely. The staff are so friendly and attentive. The food is great. Traditional dishes ,cooked superbly, at reasonable prices. We look forward to a return visit.

We go to The Old Gate at least once a month. There are always 4 or 5 beautifully kept real ales on offer. The food is top notch pub food and is plentiful and reasonably priced. Service and atmosphere both great too!

Absolutely brilliant menu suits all tastes and excellently cooked to order. You'll not be disappointed, quality was beautiful staff excellent,service I could not fault, staff pleasant and charming. Gaurantee to have an excellent experience and a brilliant meal at a acceptable price to suit your pocket, well a visit worth, they even serve brilliant draught beers of excellent quality. Lovely lunch, well cooked, everything served up on your plate along with gravy upon, they do ask if you want extra gravy, and yes the gravy is the best. All fresh vegetables and very hot n tasty. Staff were attentive howey 3 different staff kept coming round to ask exactly the same questions. Would you like another drink Would you like a sweet If everything ok for you . And we were then presented with another tables bill to pay, which was double ours, a table for four we were a couple, and when our bill came items were added but taken off before bringing the bill to the table...However the Bills bottom line was correct. There is a choice of beef, pork or turkey... The three tuns beer was mouth watering and recommended at £3.90 which was top quality, However at £4.50 for a pint of Bathams served in Kinver for only £3.50 that didn't taste much like a Bathams was odd and a large glass of white wine was a staggering £7.20 . All in all a 5 ⭐ lunch but from previous experience the Teacher Bar lady from behind the bar is keen to open a tab for you and will ensure your topped up with another drink as soon as your empty! Mmmm. So if your not careful your always going to drink more than you might have planned so if your driving, be careful stay safe 🙏

Lovely country pub been visiting here for quite some time . Food is generally good but sliding down hill lately, chips taste stale like they have been precooked and finished off when ordered. Chicken curry sauce thick chicken tough. Sunday roast beef over cooked tough roast potatoes pre cooked and warmed up strange dry taste . This is a real shame as I used to love eating here

We have visited on a couple of occasions now and both times we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Very affordable. Very tasty. Would definitely recommend. Outdoor garden is lovely to sit when the weather is nice.

The speed of service was decent and the fairly young staff were helpful and visited us frequently. Unfortunately, that's all the good things I can say about our trip. The food was average at best which is a far departure from the pub I used to visit, and the cutlery came to the table dirty.

Amazing prices and lovely staff. The hot sandwiches are a must have. Can get very busy so booking is key if your what to sit inside.

Always a most welcoming greeting from Sam & Ben and their team. As usual the food was excellent and the real ale well kept. We've been several times both to eat and just for a drink and the atmosphere is cosy. Today we took friends who hadn't visited there for years and they were impressed. The menu is varied with the option to have a smaller size meal on some of the dishes to cater for the smaller appetite and there's a good selection of real ales, lagers and ciders, soft drinks and coffees etc, all reasonably priced. Will definitely go again, and again and again and no hesitation in recommending!

Went for Dinner and it was so good went three days later for Sunday lunch , fab food amazing traditional pub, and great staff, and my large Merlot was perfect , will certainly will be going again soon

The staff were lovely, young lads really, and they were efficient and knowledgeable. However, they were up against the landlord who seemed to spend all his time shouting at them or criticising rudely. He wouldn't even let them chat to customers to pass the time of day. The landlord was so rude to staff that we felt embarrassed - and for that reason we won't go back, it wasn't relaxing and we felt so sorry for the staff. It was verging on bullying.

Just visited our favourite Friday Night pub after lock down to find the lovely Kev has moved on replaced by ... well nothing more than a bully to staff .. The new landlord stood there like a Lord .. did absolutely nothing but bully his staff, one male in particular. We sat observing him being very false to customers but also seeing him being absolueltely horrible to staff who were working so hard while he did naff all. Felt so sorry for one in particular whom he did nothing but go on to him in front of customers. If he wasnt up to standard then speak to him privately .. if this young man was mine .. I would be devestated totally demoralised him. Will not return which is a shame as it was such a friendly beautiful place ... Be Kind to people ... we are in such an unusual world at the moment and we need to be caring to each other ... Nothing more than a bully !! Rant over

We visited the Old Gate for Sunday lunch. We have previously visited the pub on several occasions and have really enjoy high quality and well presented food. Unfortunately today the food was below average, in future we will be going elsewhere for Sunday lunch.

Had a lovely lunch out today at The Gate. Had a nice table in the bar by the fire. Ordered our favourite delicious burger and chunky chips and a pint of guest ale. Perfect for a cosy tasty lunch for two. Love this pub. Couldn’t be more perfect.

Received a lovely warm welcome when we visited recently. We visited with friends and ordered food which was beautifully presented and good value. My only criticism would be that the pub was not overly busy but the wait between courses was very long and both courses could have been hotter, it just made me wonder what how they would cope over a busy period.However, I would recommend a visit

We visited this pub after reading reviews. We managed to book a table for a Saturday evening.The pub is beautiful and has kept many of the old features of the farm including the stables.The staff were very friendly, we were greeted with a friendly hello as soon as we entered.The food was nice with quite a bit of choice however they had already sold out of two dishes from the main and it was early on a Saturday evening. We had a starter and a main and enjoyed the food... I had the venison Bourgogne and my partner had the Spanish chicken.I would recommend and would visit again.

Called for lunch today and received a really warm and welcoming reception from the licencee. Lovely old fashioned pub which was doggy friendly. We both had baguettes served with salad and a bowl of chips these were delicious and the portions were generous as well. Would not hesitate to return

Tucked away in the tiny village of Heathton, this is what you expect an English pub to be. A warm welcome by the attentive staff, a fine choice of beers and an amazing selection of gins to choose from too (with advice as to which tonic goes best). It's dog friendly and the beer garden is well maintained. We spent the most relaxed afternoon here and Kev, the landlord is a fine host.

Re-visited an old favourite to meet friends for drinks and food. We like to eat in the bar area and do a bit of people watching as we do so. Excellent welcome and good bar service. Goode ale choices and Guiness. enough choices on the menu to satisfy most folks. Between us we had a pie, fish and steaks, good starters-Black Country Salad excellent. Nice puddings. This is a very friendly pub with an engaging landlord and pleasant staff. Obviously has a very loyal and frequent local following.

Booked for dinner on friends recommendation. Arrived to a beautiful display of hanging baskets and garden area. Lovely warm welcome by the landlord and staff. Fantastic choice of beers and ‘er indoors’ was spoiled for choice with their gin selection.Food was outstanding. I had a Rare Breed Steak (huge Wagyu Rib Eye) with all the trimmings which was possibly the best steak I’ve ever had. Wifey opted for a South African lamb dish (can’t remember what it was called sorry) which was bursting with flavours. Can’t recommend highly enough and can’t wait to return!!

Bar was filled with drinks to choose from, menu was another level the food was delicious and would highly recommend. (Also kid friendly and dog friendly 🙂)

We visit here quiet often during summer months. Loveley friendly country pub and the food up until this year was loveley. However we are there in June and it’s really gone down hill. The Cajun chicken used to be chaired. Just how I like it. And home made chips. The same dish now consists of frozen chips and looked like just a microwaved or just an oven baked chicken breast. To be honest I’ve had better at weatherspoons. But still charging £13 odd fir it. Obviously the cheif must have changed. And if you are skimping in quality I really don’t think you should be charging those prices. Such a shame as it was a great find.

Firstly we were meet by the owner who was so friendly and welcoming, the beer was spot on, you could tell it was very well looked after, We had a Sunday lunch there, absolutely gorgeous !! The slow braised beef in red wine was amazing with everything home cooked, not an Aunt Bessie in sight . But the deserts were gorgeous especially the Lemon Posset on the Trio of deserts, we will definitely be going back there, it was faultless in every way !! Thank you x

The positives/ Nice friendly staff, nice well kept gardens. The pub itself apparently dates back to 1600’s The bar area has charm and character. But it is very small and when a few dogs are included it’s not really suitable for a meal. Most would be better to dine in the restaurant room.

Having been here loads of times previously but stopped going as we thought the pub wasn’t the same anymore. Thought we would give it another as it has a lovely garden to sit in. Hummmmmm food average at the best. Dry bread on the sandwiches, got brown bread even thou we ordered white chip raw in the middle not much if you are a veggie or vegan. I’m sure this pub can do better it’s not difficult to serve fresh slice pre packed bread and cook a few frozen chips!!!!

We stayed overnight in the car park in our motorhome. The owner was so welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent quality and a good price. Many thanks

Good traditional coUntry pub s with a small restaurant area medium sized lounge area and a good sized outdoor area with a car park behind it the staff were all very friendly we arrived just before 6pm when the pub opened we decided to have an hour drinking in the garden as the weather was so good there was a good selection of beers and wines to choose from and some nice is only a small criticism as we all ate our food I flavours of gins we had our meal inside as the other half won’t eat anything more than a sandwich outside but plenty of other people were making the best of the good weather the menu was on the small side but we all found a couple of things to our tastes without to much trouble the service was quick and friendly with a couple of suggestions from our waiter the portion sizes were good and presented well we all agreed the food was good but could have done with more flavour it was all a little bland this is a small criticism I liked everything else about the place I will definitely go back but maybe just for lunch or a few drinks in the garden

Stopped off for a pint and a sandwich after a long walk. Very friendly place with a good choice of beer and nice fresh food.

We arrived on a cool evening, there was a log fire burning & we were welcomed by the staff. They have a huge selection of spirits! Don’t know about beers. Food was excellent. We hope to go back soon.

Looked at the photos online thought we would be eating restaurant food. Alas no, typical pub fayre, poor prawn cocktail, watery shrimps as if just thawed ...shrimps cos they weren't big enough for prawns!! Had chicken, cheese and bbq sauce otherwise known as hunters chicken on a base of runny coleslaw..not very pleasant really. A very disappointing meal.

My wife and I visited last night for a bar meal and very very impressed. We were made to feel welcome from the start and placed right by the fire. The menus were provided promptly and with a smile (not something you always get these days) and we were impressed with the offer - especially my wife who is vegetarian. I had the gammon and have to say it is was beautiful. Not only was it a nice large portion but was really succulent - fabulous! The vegetarian pasta could have been a bit more flavoursome to be honest, but nice nonetheless. Overall the pricing was fair, the food great and the atmosphere really cosy - highly recommended.

I drive past here a lot and never think to go in. However, it turns out it is excellent. It’s friendly; full of regulars who eat and drink and engage with new visitors. The menu is simple and short but what they deliver is very well done. I was extremely pleasantly surprised and would not hesitate to visit again.

My wife and i called in after a Christmas shopping trip to Bridgenorth. We hadn,t been here for some time and decided to give it a try. On entry we could smell the open fire and were given a warm welcome by the owner. We sat by the open fire with Christmas music playing in the background, (very festive). I had the Lasagne and my wife had the fish finger sandwich with chips, all home made and very tasty. A lovely finish to the day. Keep up the high standards.

With 3 guest real ales on tap, and a good lunchtime menu, this pub is off the beaten track but well known to locals. Food is excellent quality at a reasonable price. Evening menu also catered with a separate restaurant area. The pub has a very old-world and charming interior, staff are friendly and attentive. Set in attractive open countryside, this is well worth a visit.

Haven't been to The Gate for many years and visited last Wednesday lunchtime - we got there at 12 noonish and were the only ones there - the weather wasn't the best so we sat inside - lovely to see it hasn't changed much over the years! The food was good back then so it was fantastic to experience it and say that it is even better! Although we only had lunch, my fish and chips was superbly cooked, not too much batter, lovely chips and home made tartare sauce, not the annoying packets of sauce you get in most pubs! My hubby had the burger and he said it was the best he had tasted in a long time, again lovely chips and a nice fresh salad. The barman was so friendly too, it was a lovely lunch time treat! Also they have some excellent real ales too - the beer garden is great and we were told how busy it gets when the weather is nice, the hanging baskets and summer plants were lovely too - we won't be leaving it so long until our next visit!

Visited early on one evening at end of March 2018 - had just opened for the evening. Several varieties of real ales. Table for two immediately available; Ordered food immediately and served within a few minutes1 they have just installed new kitchens as well...

This is a great little pub serving good honest pub food. The beer/ale is excellent and the Landlord has a real passion for this. The seating area in the pub is fairly limited, this is an old building, and the bar area has the better ambience. The Resturant area is a little more bland.

First time at the old Gate inn and we were very warmly welcomed by whom we think was possibly the landlord. Shown immediately to our seats, through a maze of corridors and into a small cosy room towards the back of the pub.

Phoned ahead and arranged to stay overnight in my motorhome. Myself and dog were made very welcome. An excellent selection of well kept ales available, dinner was excellent of good quality and fresh veg. Looking forward to finding an excuse for visiting again soon..

A cosy country pub doing bar meals, good selection of choices all nicely presented and served quickly. A good selection of real ales, I think thet were six in all. Real log fire in the hearth to warm the place up. Barman friendly and approachable. All very good :)
