Had a lovely meal with my partner and there was a lovely gentleman behind the bar definitely will be coming back again soon

The location is absolutely stunning. The food & breakfast very good. The staff were very helpful & friendly.. Love the old building with low beams.. us hunted too apparently .lol. Due to the nature of the building the rooms & bathrooms are very small.. One flight of tricky stairs to the rooms , so if you have mobility issues than it's going to be a problem All in all i would stay again..

Stayed while visiting family, lovely venue although rooms are dated the staff were lovely. Room was clean and a fan available as it was warm. Had dinner in the evening which was lovely. The staff were there without being obtrusive. It has a feel of being cosy in the winter time. Breakfast the next morning was perfect start to the day and served by Julie, who had incidently checked us in the previous day. We did joke that she must have a bed there out back. It’s a great stop off with beautiful views

We were a party of 35 who had booked the function room, with pre ordered food. We found the staff very pleasant and helpful. The service was timely and we had no complaints. The setting of the Ferryboat is ideal next to the river, particularly on a nice sunny evening. Well done Ferryboat and staff we had a super evening.

Stayed the night in probably the worst room I’ve ever been in. Full of spiders and mozzies, hairs and dirt under the duvet, worn and shabby furniture, wardrobe door hanging off and a very dirty, broken bathroom with, quite frankly, a horrific toilet that included skid marks and dirt under the loo seat - and the loo seat wouldn’t stay on. No hand soap, someone else’s toothpaste spat over the taps - it was a bit like staying at a youth hostel in the 1980s, but dirtier. Breakfast was a pretty sad affair, bearing in mind there were only 4 of us in the restaurant - no sugar offered with the coffee, which had someone else’s dirty coffee ring at the bottom once I’d drunk it - yuck - hard and inedible sourdough, no butter available, hard poached eggs and dry bacon - all for £12. However, we could have had continental breakfast too, although the plates and granola had been out since the night before so we didn’t fancy that, and there were only 2 croissants anyway. The chef had been in a strop the night before - with arguments between staff and a group of guests walking out so perhaps we should have known better. Steer clear.

We stayed for 2 nights as we were attending a family wedding. We booked and received confirmation. Other family members who arrived earlier on the day discovered they had double booked us. They spent the day trying to rectify the matter. We arrived shortly before 9pm from an evening flight from Glasgow. The member of staff behind the bar told us they were unable to make any food at all. When we asked if they could recommend any good take outs he laughed and said, none that are any good. We drove to St Ives and found somewhere to eat, a local bar that was very understanding and accommodating. The window sills in the rooms and at breakfast had dead flies on them, the milk served was past its best and curdled in the tea. The food that morning was enjoyable but nothing to rave about. We arrived back from the wedding and were ordering a drink from the bar. There is a newspaper article in the hall talks about the the ghost that wanders the corridors and has been seen once or twice. I can only assume that’s who cleans the toilets. We could hear the chef and manager arguing about his shift the next day. He was telling her he’d booked it off weeks ago and wasn’t coming in. Sure enough at breakfast the following morning we were met by an angry looking manager. She promptly told us the menu was off because the chef hadn’t turned up and she was alerting the police. In all my life, I’ve never known a situation where the police will go searching for someone who is late for work. When asked what was available on the menu we were told eggs and maybe a sausage. She very reluctantly served these. To comment on how poor the food was seems a tad unfair as that wasn’t her role. Her role was clearly to grunt and moan at the paying customers and to test them like an inconvenience. If you’re thinking about staying here, id continue to scroll. It has great potential but requires a huge amount of TLC and some new management. The wedding was fab 😊

I decided to stay at the Old Ferry Boat whilst travelling with work and what a great decision it was. Clean, comfortable tidy rooms. Great food. I met Julia the chef and she couldn't be more accommodating. Will most certainly be back again. Thankyou.

Always loved this pub and has had its ups and down's over the years . Lovely location by the river with a big beer garden. Can’t fault the staff and food , lovely generous portions nice and hot nicely cooked. A bit slow but always busy on a sunny summer Sunday. The best I’ve had there for a while well worth a try if you’re in the area.

Went for a family lunch to celebrate Father’s Day. Chelsea was so welcoming and took our order promptly as well as giving us good recommendations from the menu. I had the prawn cocktail followed by the roast beef. They were delicious. I would 100% recommend the Old Ferry Boat and would encourage people to ask Chelsea to be your waitress!

Waited over five minutes to be shown to a table by a very stone faced waitress who clearly did not want to be here. Ordered drinks and food at bar, had run out of milk to go with the tea. Polite, apologetic waiter who was doing the majority of running around. Waited over 40 minutes for food . Lasagne appeared very overdone, was very brown, dry , ‘side salad’ was pitiful with one sprig of greenery, one marble sized tomato and three grated strips of cucumber drowning in lots of vinegar. Chips overdone. Did not stay for dessert. Abysmal.

Mixed experience. Family of 6 adults. Bad points: King Prawn Linguine came with the smallest prawns to which we were told they'd run out of the king's. If that's the case then the option to change the dish before landing in front of you should have been given. Staff said they didn't know but then went on to say there were more of the smaller ones...7 in total so I can only imagine you'd get around 1 king for those alternative ratios. That meal was bland. Certain meal options weren't available and it was a Saturday evening. Brownie dessert was burnt. Bakewell Tart had far too much jam on it. Staff never once asked how our food was or attempted to rectify issues highlighted. Good points: Starters were very good all round. Ravioli and King Prawn Cocktail deserve a special mention. Staff were very friendly and polite. Atmosphere was lovely and comfortable. The place itself is beautiful. Despite the issues we would come back, however certain dishes would be avoided and that's even if they're available to avoid. Expectations have been lowered.

This is a very charming location, the food is excellent, and they are dog friendly, all the staff are so lovely, take time to welcome you, and they have a good menu.😋

Came here for a last min visit for dinner with family, even though was busy the new GM managed to squeeze us in with no problems, service was quick and staff was very friendly and went out of their way to help. Nice to see a new manager run the place, staff all seem happy with how she’s running the place :) i will definitely be back!

Wonderful venue, we stayed overnight and room was comfortable and clean. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful - enjoyed a delicious dinner and tasty breakfast - Julia and all her colleagues were attentive and welcoming.

Had a nice fish ad chips at this pub today with some sun out it was a great visit to the ferry boat. The new manager is a breath of fresh air you can tell the team are happy now a when you try the food and experience the service.

What a nice pub in a nice village, we got lost on way to Cambridge and ended up here for a Friday dinner. the food was fresh and pork belly I had was cooked to perfection. Can not fault the team at all everything was fantastic. Again when if you are in Hollywell the Old Ferry Boat is the place to go.

My daughter ordered a rare sirloin steak and it arrived blue. It had barely seen the grill and was raw in the middle. My husband ordered a medium rare sirloin steak and it was very rare. I had a burger which was pink in the middle and the so-called burnt ends were barely cooked, never mind burnt. It was really disappointing as it is such a lovely setting but we won't be going back anytime soon for food.

Visited three times so far in June. Twice during half term week when it was exceptionally busy. Covid procedures were well implemented. The food was what I expect from old world inn, very tasty pub grub in adequate quantity. Yes, the service was slow but any idiot can see that at the present time they are under-staffed and desperately trying to do their best. I think they are 'Amazing' to do that kind of work day after day. What I found 'Appaling' was the behaviour of some customers making complaints in a rude manner. Perhaps they are some of the same people that don't believe Covid rules apply to them.

We have been seated at the table which was covere with bird's poo. We ordered just a bottle of wine and been waiting for 20min.when we came inside to ask we've been told that there is a waiting list of drinks. How hard it is for the bar person to assess that it is just a bottle of wine to place on a bar to be delivered? Very incompetent and inefficient staff working there. I am myself working behind the bar and never told anyone that this is the system and you need to wait. I have remembered why we walked out of there before. As much as we love location, we will never return. Been way better experience in Pike and Eel.

Decided to take my sister out for a meal before she went home again. We arrived and were Seen to strait away and the staff were really friendly. They were very prepared for COVID and spoke to my sister about her mask after being told she was exempt the waitress was very apologetic. We were shown to our table after setting up a tab at the bar. The garden was beautiful and well kept. We all kicked our shoes off and enjoyed the grass. We were got told there was a 45 mins wait however our food was served very promptly. We all started off with chicken strips which were hot and very nice. The staff were very attentive and after a drink came out wrong it was fixed straight away. Mains came out super quickly and the steak was cooked brilliantly. The lasagna had more vegetables then expected and had chillies in which my sister didn’t like. After we went to pay she asked how everything was and we told her about the lasagna as we know feedback is important and without any hesitation she took it off the bill. It wasn’t what we expected as she had still tried to eat it, but we really appreciated it. Overall an amazing experience with no faults and will most definitely come back.

We arrived via the front steps, no signage around to explain proceedure during covid. We took a table and we rudely told to see the guy at the entrance. went over to the staff member at the entrance and I will say he was helpful and allowed us to stay once I had told him we would be staying for lunch.The tables where a little unkept for and we did notice a few tables were not cleaned down with antibac after they had been vacated.the grass aound the tables was overgrown, the outside just looked unkept.We ordered via the Greene King App which was simple and easy enough.we then waited 15 mins for a pint and a glass of wine. Our food came about 10 mins later. My wife ordered a toasted white bloomer veg option, I ordered the New york deli pastrami on toasted soughdough, both with rosemary fries.We sent them straight back as neither were toasted and both were wet on the bottom. When the new (not sure) sandwiches were bought out my wife was ok with hers, it was what it was, a small sandwich with fries, (no salad etc). the fries on both were not Rosemary, just salted fries.My sandwich however was a disgrace, I have been to New york many times and eaten some amazing deli sandwiches. This was not one. It had one slice of pastrami. that slice was like leather, you couldnt even chew it. I called the waiter over, this time it was the team leader I explained my concerns and he duely agreed it was very poor and he would not be happy with that, he spoke to the manager and I was given a refund. £7 for sandwiches you would expect some kind of effort.Hospitality have been moaning for the past months about opening up etc, then I think they need to make more of an effort because why should we part with our hard earnt money on poor food. It was the first time we have eaten at a Greene King pub, it will be our last.

Looking for a picturesque thatched country pub that serves great quality food at fair prices with a wide choice then The Old Ferry Boat will fit that bill. With polite and professional staff and a stunning interior I will definitely be going back.

Had a lovely meal this evening. Steak was cooked to perfection and the sea bass risotto very tasty. Staff are friendly and efficient. Excellent place to go by the river.

Glorious location ruined by poor service and mediocre food. Booked for lunch. Arrived a few minutes early. Clearly intended that you enter from the car park. There was no clear signage and after being ignored by most of the staff were finally directed to the right place. Order was taken reasonably quickly after some confusion as to whether we should be using the app or set up a tab at the bar. Ordered starters and a main with a couple of false starts when we tried to order items that were not available. Drinks arrived fairly promptly but we were told that there was a current delay of half an hour. We were fine with that. Time went by and we asked for some water. At the third time of asking a waiter turned up with 2 very small glasses largely filled with ice!!The starters arrived after about 40 minutes by which time other nearby tables were getting both starters and mains. By now an hour had elapsed and on speaking to a waiter saying they had 5 minutes to deliver the food otherwise we were leaving. Miraculously it appeared within a couple of minutes. However the lamb shoulder I had ordered was little more than lukewarm. I did eat some but it finally became cold and disgusting. My wife’s Hunters Chicken was fine however. On coming to pay I did complain and the lamb was knocked off the bill. Although some compensation it did not make up for a very disappointing meal when you look forward to these things now restrictions have been eased. Might give them one more chance because it is such as lovely location.

Perfect pub for summer evening meal outdoors, this has become a new favourite for my family. Really friendly staff and lovely scenery

First visit since doors opened for inside eating. Staff were very friendly and organised. My friend needed an accessible table and this was all ready for us. The service was quick and efficient. The food was very nice. It was our birthday celebration and it was exactly what we needed. Shame it was raining as it would have been lovely to sit outside looking at the river but maybe next time. We will be back.

On arrival we received a warm welcome and shown to our table to our table. Drinks ordered at the table and very quickly arrived served by a very friendly waitress. Meal was excellent. Would certainly recommend the steak and ale pie my wife enjoyed very much and I chose the signature gammon which was perfect. All-in-all a very enjoyable time. Thank you to all. Certainly will re-visit.

Food was Good. I ordered the Sunday Trio. My Only complaints would that the gravy was just a bit on the salty side, the pork was a little over cooked and the yorkshires were a bit tuff as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a bit. All 4 of us had Dessert and they did not disappoint. All in all it was a great time out, the staff were extremely polite and the atmosphere was lovely. I would definately come here again and would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a good meal and good time.

Well what can I say, post lockdown thought we'd venture out and go down the pub again. We were warmly welcomed on arrival without booking ahead. The atmosphere and background music was good. We had a gammon and a steak and both were cooked really well, which was unexpected having frequented Greene Kings before. Our host for the evening was the delightful Lucy who was incredibly friendly and made sure to check on us multiple times throughout the meal. All finished off with a nice coffee and a mini brownie! Will definitely visit again!

We sat outside to appreciate the scenery and at this time, it was the only option.Lovely, welcoming staff.Very disappointing food, except for the freshly cooked fish and chips!! My mother-in-law had ordered a salmon dish that came with 'new buttered potatoes'. Unfortunately, they were well beyond their 'new' status. We likened them to yesterday's leftovers. We asked a member of staff to check with the chef, but he said that he always cooked them this way!!!We opted then to have a free portion of chips.My risotto was sadly dry and certainly not creamy. I could not be bothered to complain again and we definitely did not attempt desserts.Such a shame!!

Have been here before and usually a good experience. On this occassion we waited a long time for the meal and when it came out it was cold. The young lad who we told about is said he could put it back under the heat lamps. We decided not to as it must have sat under heat lamps for a while so would it be any warmer. The lad said he would tell the manager we were not happy, he did not do that. Excuse given was that they were very busy. Yes t was busy but all tables had to be booked so they knew how many to expect.Such a shame as a lovely place with a nice ambience.

We’ve been coming to The Old Ferry Boat for years (me and my husband even had our first date here!). Even with the challenges of COVID-19 the service, food and overall experience is second to none. It’s always lovely to be greeted by Toby and Jack who are friendly and very welcoming! Happy to be back and to see them all!

My mum and I had a lovely meal at the Ferry Boat this week. The service was brilliant (especially George) and the food yummy. We were told there was going to be a bit of a delay but it was hardly noticeable. We ordered on the Green King app (you could also order through table service) and everything was spot on. The best of all is we had a table on the terrace overlooking the river. There are only 3 tables there so totally Covid safe. The whole put felt safe, as if there were doing their best to make sure everyone was safe and comfortable. We will be back!

We live on The Front in Holywell and have been coming here for 30 years. The pub has been good bad and indifferent during those years but tonight the food was lovely and the booze first rate. And George was an excellent waiter. Very pleased to see the vegan options. Vegan gravy was excellent.

I enjoyed my visit to the Ferry Boat yesterday, I joined my work colleagues in the garden for lunch. The garden was really nice with plenty of socially distant seating. I felt safe. The staff were tentative even though they were all really busy. We had a really nice meal and would definitely be booking again. Well done especially given the covid circumstances.

First day of opening 12th April. There’s a lovely 6000 step walk from the Mills car park looping round and ending almost at this picturesque pub.We were greeted at a Covid station where we were asked to complete track and trace either on paper or on the NHS app. There was hand sanitizer available and orders were taken by going inside with mask for card details to be taken or alternatively via an app on your phone.The food was very good, came quite quickly and was hot. There was an extensive menu catering for all.I would recommend this pub because I felt Covid safe, the staff were friendly and efficient, the surroundings were lovely and the food was good and reasonable.

Our second year in a row celebrating Christmas at the Old Ferry Boat. Superb food and service in a beautiful old pub and setting. We will be returning next year.

Came out for a Christmas breakfast with my family and all I can say is that is was amazing. The service was fantastic. Everything was cooked to perfection. Hats off to the chefs Mark and Jordan who even cooked a sausage for my small dog. Had a great pre-Christmas dinner from the Festive Faye menu. Table was laid up beautifully with some really good quality crackers (they even had decent jokes!) and very tasteful lit up Christmas stars. The service from Lucy and Lana was excellent and we also felt very safe.

Yes, despite the Coronavirus, you can still get a great Christmas lunch in a safe environment along with your bubble. Great service, a friendly welcome and a relaxed couple of hours without any hassle. These guys are doing it right and deserve support.

The warm welcome we received from Jack upon our arrival set the tone for our brief visit to this fascinating little inn. He is both professional and knowledgeable, a real credit to the Old Ferry Boat Inn. Toby is rightly proud of Jack and the rest of the staff who all go the extra mile to ensure you feel properly looked after. Our food was lovely and we definitely plan to return.

Brought my 83 old mother for lunch time meal. Very safe well organised, meals were excellent, staff very attentive, good cleaning regime.

Managed a government controlled substantial meal. Staff were full of Christmas spirit, especially Lucy with her Christmas Tree hat. Saffron was great at taking my money and Ash at being in charge!

We have just enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the Ferry Boat. The staff were great - explaining the set up and of course ensuring we ordered food before our drinks. And on the food - we both had 3 courses of proper pub grub. Particular shout out to the burger which was exceptional. So glad it has reopened.

My husband and I decided to go to this cosy, charming old pub to celebrate the end of Lockdown. We were met with a friendly, efficient welcome advising us of the Covid arrangements, a blazing fire and Christmas trees. Service was friendly and helpful throughout, the vegetarian and vegan options amazing and the food delicious and well presented! Thank you for a wonderful tonic to Lockdown - we will be back!
