The Old Dukes in Cheshire West and Chester

Booked a table, waited for 3 hours where they then decided to tell us they’ve ran out of food. Not the best service

Joke of a place. Went in to watch footy and grab some food. First it download an app, then it’s make an account, then it’s order food, oh wait, it’s offline. Waited an hour, app back on, then they’ve got the bare faced cheek to charge £16 for a burger then add a separate fee on to litterally bring your food out. Walked out in the end. Won’t ever return

Came to watch the football and it was a very good venue except for a lady called Karen (would you believe 😂) who claimed to be the owners wife who barged us out of the way of the bar and verbally abused us repeatedly for standing at the bar to watch the football. The staff were extremely polite and great but unfortunately Karen ruined our experience. It was an England game in the euros so was very busy and during our time we witnessed the same lady be abusive towards multiple customers for no apparent reason. I think she had too much to drink and was very rude to people in the pub. The staff were great but unfortunately her claimed association with the pub and attitude towards us and others was shocking and unacceptable, especially for a 60 year old "lady"

One word, Karen! A lady called Karen - who claimed to be the owner of the bar's wife verbally abused me on multiple occasions during the 2&1/2 hours that we were in the bar. She shoved me multiple times, poked me and shouted in my face. She had asked me to move down the bar so that she could get served first whilst everyone else made an orderly queue behind one another. I politely declined and then the abuse begun. I can't fault the bar staff. All apologised to me and asked Karen to calm down multiple times as well as asking her to stay away from the bar. Even her supposed husband apologised. I also appreciated the apology as we left from the bar staff. Quite frankly, they were mortified by her behaviour. I hope that following this, she is banned from the bar and perhaps given a reminder about bar etiquette and general manners.

It is a brilliant spot to sit outside and look over the gorgeous cathedral.

Could do with cleaning the loos

Such a fun bar....made our night. We had a drink here before eating at Sergios Italian and after the beautiful food we came straight back as it was such a welcoming bar.

As a sports bar it ticks all the boxes with lots of huge tv's. The pool tables are great but the full size shuffle boars are great fun, until you lose anyway

Excellent service and very friendly staff!

The bartender who served us was very nice and friendly. We played shuffleboard which was fun. Great bar to watch sport with the plethora of big screens they have in there.

Food poor and arrived wrong order with an hr wait for loaded fries & nachos, went it came not worth the money, chips & nachos with a little sauce on them. Ordered vodka & coke & asked to remeasure vodka as bar tender poured a little vodka over ice (not 25ml). Came to watch football match & most of the tvs not working, had to ask bar staff to put them on.

Nice atmosphere. Shows sport. Have been 5+ times and never any beers on tap. Really let down by the lack of draught.

Staff were really friendly and helpful food and drinks were really reasonably priced and location was really nice.

Been on a few occasions and very few beers on draught only 3, today an all time low no white wine. If you’re going I’d check first if they have any drink. Not good. New low just been in still very few draught beers but seriously NO WHITE WINE, kingdom or the manager need to get there act together for the basics in this place and get the drinks order sorted no excuses for this level of incompetence. KINGDOM get this sorted wouldn’t be accepted in Suberbs.

A nice pub that is hidden away but also right next to the city walls and cathedral. £6.00 a pint seems a bit excessive even for a city centre pub. Worth a visit if you're in chester and want a pleasant ambience.

Fair enough, the place looks nice. The food s quite standard, not special.

Rip off… £9 for two halves of larger! Don’t come in here unless you take out a loan at the bank, much nicer bars in town that do not charge the earth!

False advertising, was led to believe that the pool table was in a private room. No it was just in the middle of the pub. We went and they had no beer on tap only bottles, very poor.

I have booked a table to watch the Wales and then the England match today. I had to book and pay a deposit of £60 to reserve the table. England match has just stated and they have run out of most beers. How can this be given the 6 nations has just begun!! Really poor!!!

We came here by chance after seeing it from the Chester walls, I'm so glad we came in. The slider game they had at the back was so much fun. We decided to book a table to watch the England match the next day and had a great time. The dirty fries are the best we have ever had

We were in at lunchtime today(2nd September). The staff were friendly and welcoming. We each had the Don Dog which came with fries and slaw. The food came and it looked fabulous and generous. The flavours in that plate of food were amazing, the brisket was juicy and melt in the mouth. I would thoroughly recommend and definitely come back

Went for drinks here on Friday and loved it! The manager, Mike made us the most amazing cocktails! The Espresso Martinis were fab as were the ones he made especially for us based on the spirits we like. All the staff there were super friendly and attentive! 5* service that’s unfortunately missing from a lot of places in Chester these days! Highly recommended!

The lovely Jo looked after us and found us a table, I'd advise booking ahead. Good selection of beers and lagers for a session while watching the sports on the numerous large screen tvs. I had the Dukes burger which was very tasty. Bar staff were well trained and efficient. The atmosphere was very chilled and relaxed, in part due to the hard working Jo who dealt with parties and individuals with professionalism and a great asset to the business. Top room for stags and hens etc, thoroughly recommended.

Myself and 2 lady friends didn't know what to expect going into this sports bar, tucked away behind Sergio's Italian restaurant. We hoped to be able to watch the United match, have a drink and a chat. From the moment we stepped in, we were asked if we wanted to watch a match , which one and we were then taken to a table close to a screen. The staff were so attentive and friendly and looked after us all night, making sure we had drinks and stopping to chat to us. Such a great, friendly atmosphere with a group playing pool close by. All 3 of us were totally impressed by the efficiency and friendliness of the staff.Definitely returning next time in Chester.

Booked in advance as we were hoping we could watch the Man City game, knowing that the Liverpool game would be the priority. The staff were so accommodating, not only did they put the City game on two big screens we were fortunate enough to have the commentary too. Staff continued to check we were okay throughout the evening and ensured our glasses were never empty. Everyone enjoyed their burgers as well. Thank you for a great evening, we'll be back again soon.

Great pub with cool staff and plenty of activities to do inside, play pool or other table games. Watch the game of the day or fight of the night on the tvs too.

A welcome find in the city center, excellent if you want to watch any sports on TV, screens everywhere,(can be a bit loud!) couple of pool tables and even shuffleboard to play(not seen that for years). Good staff, quite a selection of beers and spirits

A small get together (11) before Xmas, served by Owen who kept us in food and drinks. Nice food and pool tables, would go again.

Super attentive staff and always made to feel welcome. Burgers are tasty with great quality and sizeable patties. Only areas for improvement I'd note would to be more generous with the cheese on the black & blue and truffle on the truffle burger. Including more onions and lettuce would accompany the larger patties better also. Blue Moon on tap is a winner so cudos to the team for that gem. Keep doing what you're doing, highly recommend !

Food was great....the service was sadly lacking.

They delivered me the completely wrong order and told me to call just eat cos they couldn't do anything about it even though was they're blatant mistake. How you.can get wings and steak mixed up with burger and dirty fries is beyond me.£33 order

Free bar games, attentive staff with table service, clean toilets. Sports on the TV's around the bar. I went with 3 other people and if I looked for a fault I couldn't find one on this night. Well done guys, you found a new fan.

A beautiful hidden little place, the staff are so friendly and the outside area is so pretty

Five stars are not enough for the fabulous dinner we had! We opted for the flat iron steak, and let me tell you, I will always remember this steak! Absolutely divine! We were very well looked after by our lovely waiter. I do recommend this place!

Great hidden gem. 2 English pool tables and a couple of shuffle boards (so much fun!) Lovely heated outdoor space. Huge TV screens. Great beer. There's even a games room with an Xbox!

Really lovely place, the staff recommended a mushroom and truffle burger which sounds a bit pretentious (maybe that's me) but it was seriously tasty, the burger patties were perfectly cooked and the mushrooms were anything but slimy.

Fantastic! Super friendly staff, who made it feel like a local on our first visit! Only way to improve would be to have the iced glasses they have in Suburbs for Donna😊

Brilliant bar, top staff, beer and food. Where else would you want to watch sport on the TV in chester? You'll struggle to top this place.

Can't fault the service or the size of the portions but realistically for burgers & chips it was pricey.

Found this place by accident when searching Facebook for somewhere to eat. Now been twice! The food is incredible, the drinks are good and the staff are great. Not tried the pool and shuffleboard yet, but will be back!!

Staff are amazing!! They totally make the place. So friendly and welcoming especially Hannah and Rachael. We brought our dog (who's on a raw diet) they brought out some mince so she could have a snack! So thoughtful. Food and drink is great too. Highly recommend coming here!!!

Very friendly and welcoming staff, Jo and the team couldn't do enough for us. The food was great too, plenty of it and good quality. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon, especially when the Indoor area is open as it looked amazing (through the window).

Fantastic place and staff,food looked amazing

(Review is for a delivered meal via the 'just eat' app). The meal was piping hot, delivered exactly on time and absolutely delicious. The portions were huge, I made a valiant attempt, but just could not finish it :) Very impressed and will be ordering again.

Had a lovely lunch here. Staff were nice and food was so good too! They have loads of screens showing a variety of sports, they also have pool tables and shuffle tables. It is right by the cathedral so very central too.
