There don't seem to be many places to stay in Witney so booked a night here, even though it was a 20 minute walk where I was going. The hotel part is pretty outdated and in need of attention. And a good clean! I dusted the bedside light before I used it and the shower cleaned off some dirt from the side when I set it going.. It then stopped for a minute or two whilst I was using it. Something seemed to be leaking in the bathroom. The carpets are pretty awful as well. However it was quiet overnight as I was facing the courtyard not the road. And free car parking. The staff and restaurant are great though. The restaurant is very well priced for the area and a good standard and ambience. So a very mixed experience.

Terrible room. Old, musty, dubious electrics. The staff were pleasant enough, but it unfortunately does not make up for the atmosphere! Specifically booked the 4-pister bedroom, with jet bath. Jet bath did not work (very shoddy electrics, unfinished look to the bathroom). Incredibly noisy toilet, dirty windowsills and generally in desperate need of an update to decore and furnishings. They weren't just old, they were tired, needed fixing ( some cracked, some missing handles) Dinner was acceptable, but small portions for the price.

Big group of us went for dinner. Excellent Indian and Nepalese food. The menu wasn’t huge like some places but choosing from all the tasty sounding food was still tough. All the food was great. Special mention to the lamb starter. This place doesn’t show up easily in searches but is well worth going to.

Lovely room ,basic but quaint , however the manger is properly one of the rudest men I have met in a long time . Went to bar for breakfast, lad sat as at table, another staff member came over didn’t introduce himself just said “ are you doing something “ we said we wanted breakfast he then went on to tell us we haven’t paid for breakfast to which we said no we are going to pay, bearing in mind we had just sat down. He said it’s not policy to pay must pay with room, his English is very broken and difficult to understand. We went back later for a cold drink which are cans from a multi pack, charged at £2.95 each!!! I said that can’t be right to which he starts babbling on,you literally you can’t say anything. He said he would charge us £3 for both . When paying I asked to see the amount on the card machine well you would of thought I’d ask to see his bank balance….. he started raising his voice saying “you think we fraud” “ we honest people” when he eventually stopped being aggressive for a second I was able to say I have the right to see how much I’m being charge as I’m paying …. He is so aggressive and rude . We spent over £300 in the bar the night before and this is what you get for it.

Well what can I say???¿ The staff were lovely buy doesn't change the fact the room was one of the worst we have ever stayed in. Mould everywhere, bathroom was vile, when telling the management at breakfast about it they said they knew and were decorating it soon! Why put people in this room if you know it is that bad! Checked Google reviews after ( rocky mistake to not do it before) and the same room was complained about 3 months ago and still nothing has been done about it Wouldn't ever stay there again

I booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary but unfortunately on arrival we could see that it was in a dilapidated state. On entering the bar and dining area we could see that there was nothing stocked in the bar and everything looked old and dated. On being shown our room we quickly realised that the hotel was not fit for purpose and decided not to stay. We spoke to two employees who told us there was no manager on site so we just left. How disappointing is that when we were looking forward to a nice beak.

We stayed 2 nights at the Old Court Hotel in Witney (2 children, 11 and 13 and my wife) in a 2 x double bedded room, which was located downstairs at the back of the main building. The room was very querky and was a little tired and could have done with some modernisation , that said beds were very comfortable and kids loved the space. The staff were brilliant and customer service was 2nd to none. We had booked in for dinner as we had never eaten Nepalese before - BEST DECISION, as it was amazing!! we had some chicken and vegetarian dishes, all of which were very tasty and reasonably priced!. The hotel is located very close to Witney town centre (approx. 5 mins walk) and a short drive to the Cotswolds (Burford). We would stay again!!

This hotel was our over night stay to break our journey. The bed was very comfortable, but the furniture is very tired, what there was. No wardrobe, a pole with a curtain, the curtains did not hang correct, incorrect pole sizes. No plug socket by mirror for hairdryer. It seemed that there was a water generator, every time you switched the water on it make a load noise. The toilet flushing was very poor and the sign on the toilet was terrible: WHEN USING THIS PLEASE ONLY PUT PEE, TOILET PAPPER & POO DOWN THIS LOO AS IT CAN BLOCK IT UP (as you can see the spelling is in correct). This hotel is not worth £100 per night. The bar shut at 10pm.

I booked a table for 9 of us on a friday evening, as we all regularly eat out around witney as a group and review eateries. We were greeted with big smiles and a very warm reception from the very friendly staff. we sat down with our drinks and ordered an array of starters. there was plenty to go round and for everyone to try a bit of everything, and it was really tasty, and an interesting mix. Once the mains were ordered, the drinks were refilled and the mains arrived. I had the lamb which was really nice, tasty and ordered as fairly hot. Perfect. I tried a little from the other plates, and everyone was full of flavour. the food is a mix of indian/oriental inspired and beautifull. The satff did a great job, as the restaurant was already busy when we arrived. We all agreed that this was a really good alternative to the amin stream eateries in witney and the staff were tiptop. We will be returning for more. thank you guys

The staff were extremely helpful and organised a couple of early breakfasts for us and everything was done with a smile. Breakfasts were especially well done, it's rare to get an egg poached just right these days. Plus there is the benefit of their lovely Nepalese/Indian menu in the evening, a highlight of which are some of the best onion bhajis we had ever tasted. Rooms are nice too, with the only negative being weak showers, a side effect of an old building. Still would stay again without hesitation.

Two night stay in early December. Room had a really comfortable four poster bed that was far too big for the room! There was quite a or if noise from the road, particularly in the morning. Main issue was the bathroom. Water pressure in the shower was very low and there was no heating- not good in December. I understand that it is an old building but improvements are needed in my view. Breakfast was OK but just one cup of coffee - no top up and no-one to ask for more.

We were going to a family party on the other side of town and rather than getting us a taxi the manager drove us in his own car!!! Breakfast was great and the waitress was very attentive. We stayed overnight on the way back from The Wimbledon tennis championships. We had stayed in slough the previous night. As our car was parked in slough I was anxious that the coach from Wimbledon would get us back too late and that we wouldn't make the 10pm check in deadline. The owner was very helpful and said if we rang up before ten pm arrangements could be made for a late check in. Fortunately we arrived at ten. Room and bed clean and comfortable. Good nights sleep. Tea coffee facilities in room and TV. Very good full English breakfast with decent cup of coffee. I really feel the new owners are making a real effort to make this work. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they are so helpful. We were even able to get food even though we arrived late. The scampi and chips were lovely and reasonably priced. The building is very old and the style reflects this. I have stayed in many three and five star hotels and I would stay here again. Don't judge by earlier reviews. The new owners have been there only three months. The carpet in our room seemed fairly new. The towels were soft, fluffy and smelled really fresh.

We were out sightseeing in the afternoon and suddenly had a phone call from someone at the hotel asking what time we'd be arriving. We thought it was strange as we didn't have to notify the time when we booked our room. When we got there the entrance to the parking area is on a bend, on a very, very busy junction, we drove in and found a parking space behind other cars, basically blocking them in (later in the evening another vehicle parked behind us so we were blocked in as well. We asked the owner/manager about this and what would happen if anyone wanted to get out, he just said "Oh we'll have to wait and see"). Entering the pub/hotel, we went into the bar and there was no-one in there only the owner/manager, there was only one light on and the rest of the room was in darkness. He gave us the room key and gestured the direction we were to go for our room (in a part of the building out the back over the patio area). We mentioned payment and he said he preferred cash as he was going to Wales that evening. We didn't pay cash. We asked about food as we were very hungry, obviously the kitchen wasn't open as we were the only three people in the building. He sent us to an Italian restaurant up the road, and said we'd have to take pot luck as to whether we'd get a table or not. Luckily we did and the food was very good (Angelo's restaurant). Walking back to the hotel, we got there and the place was closed and in darkness, so we assumed the owner had scooted off to Wales! We went round the back through the car park and got to our room that way. The room was called the Honeymoon Suite, if I'd just got married and was taken there, I would apply for a divorce straight away!! The whole of the hotel, not just our room, was scruffy, grubby and tacky. Our room was dominated by an awful 4 poster bed, shoved up one end of the room. The mirror was standing against the wall, I had to get on my knees to do my hair. The radiator cover was broken and the coat hangers had previously come off the door and were just dumped on top of the radiator. There were windows in the room but they were high up so you couldn't see out of them. From the room a few steps led down into the bathroom. There was a large circular Jacuzzi bath, a macerator toilet and a basin. Also there were 3 doors in the room, one to our bedroom and the others could have led anywhere, we could hear voices through them!! The tiles round the bath were mainly broken and cracked, both taps on the bath said Hot, so you had to fiddle about to find which was cold. The tap in the basin was very slow. The towels were small, dingy and not very clean looking. The following morning we went down to breakfast (wondering if we'd get any!!). There was an older Italian man in the bar waiting to serve us. We were offered cereals, fruit juice, tea/coffee and a fry up. We started with orange juice, but just couldn't drink it. I don't know if it was past it's sell-by date or what, but it was slightly fizzy and tasted very bitter. The fry up came but was extremely greasy, and you could have stood a spoon up in the tea. When the time came for us to leave, luckily the man was outside talking on his phone, and after a bit of manoeuvring we managed to reverse the car out of the car park (not enough space to turn round) and the man stopped all the traffic on the busy junction for us to get out onto the road. The stay at this hotel spoiled a lovely few days away for us. Witney is a lovely place to stay but not this hotel!!

Everything there is slow, slow slow, and when you get your food its so disappointing. The owner Julian seems to be quite nasty in a sleazy kinda way. The rooms smell and are UNCLEAN they are falling apart and are way too expensive for what u get and to top it off i had a really bad night sleep. I will never step foot in there again, and strongly recommend no one else does either.

From the outside this pub seems very old and nothing special, but...a whole new world is waiting for you behind the doors. This beautifully renovated country pub is an absolute delight to spend either a romantic or fun-filled evening. We spent the evening here yesterday with friends and had a really wonderful dining experience. The charming owner and chef, Julian, welcomed us as old friends and accomodeted our every need. He cooked up a exquisite dishes that left us all complementing him. We had aperitifs in the open air garden, dinner in the stylish restaurant, and coffee in the supercosy oversized sofas of the lounge. We were pleasantly surprised when the bill came. Julian has placed very low prices on food and drink. All in all a perfect evening. This is sure to be my favourite place in Witney. Highly reccomended.

Daylight robbery. Tiny filthy room, stained carpets, stained walls, bathroom stinks of mildew, dark and dingy. Bed sheets were clean and bed very comfortable. Thats the only positive i can say sadly. Staff dont seem to care. Worst hotel ive stayed in by some margin.

We ate at this restaurant as it has been advertised under new management and as we are local thought we would give it a try. I am not sure what the state of management is as the 'previous owner' came in and helped himself to a drink behind the bar - who knows! The food was basic pub food, which would be good if flavourful but it was not. The Thai food they used to have there was much better! The wine tasted cheap. I think this could be a great place but they need to improve the food and drinks to get the locals to want to eat and drink there - oh and don't bother with the cocktails - trust me when I say they were awful.

We stayed as a couple for the night.. When we arrived our welcome was nice enough we went up to our room and were impressed by the initial look.. We were taken away by the size of the jacuzzi bath and thought the bed looked fab.. Taking a closer look the walls need a good paint and the dust on the curtains surrounding the 4 poster bed were less than appealing as well as a stain on the sheet! Be careful. During the evening we received a knock to the door from the owner who had come to collect some clothing from the wardrobe within the room as they had moved an older couple earlier on in the day for our visit and the house keepers had not removed the clothes. We found this irritating. We then had another knock to the door first thing as there was a car blocked in which wasn't anything to do with us again rather irritating. Overall it's a lovely quaint hotel just needs a lick of paint and a dust!

We stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights at the end of April. There was good and bad point with this hotel. The good bits was that there is friendly staff and the food was good and not to expensive. The bad bits are that the photos are very misleading, there is hardly any parking space, the room has cracks in the walls, theres Puddles of water in the bath room which there must be a leak, the rooms are very cold, the roof in the restraunt looks like its going to fall down and to top it off, we heard that the manager "HACKS" into this website to take any bad reviews off so I'm guessing this review could be deleted off the system any time. Also the website states that the rooms has been refurbished but rooms with windows which let the cold and damp in and cracks in the walls doesn't tell me the rooms are refurbished. It may of been refurbished 50 years ago but not any time recently.

We stayed from the 30th March until today (1st April) 2012, the food is delicious, the staff warm, welcoming, the hotel cosy, clean and intimate. The bedroom was clean we had room 8 the honeymoon suite and the en suite Jacuzzi bathroom was simply beautiful. we were very close to the high street, the food prices were great value, the drinks decent prices especially if you are there at happy hour. the courtyard was relaxing and we wished we could of stayed longer. A lovely weekend break we enjoyed ourselves so much that we are coming back soon

We ordered takeaway online. The food was delicious. It was fresh and portioned very well. You can get sausage instead of cod.

When a business contact of mine from London told me he would be visiting Witney, of course I wanted to meet up with him. But also I wanted to impress him and show him the best that Witney ha to offer. When I booked dinner at The Three Horseshoes I was confident that my contact would have a great evening, and it was absolutely the right choice. As soon as he arrived he commented on how amazing the pub was, and how he loved the atmosphere and the log burner too. Our dinner was fantastic and even though the place was busy, the speed or service and the attentiveness of the team was brilliant. They were there when we needed them, and left us to get on with our business conversation the rest of the time. For impressing a really important contact from London - The Three Horseshoes was exactly the right choice and what is SO brilliant is that it is also the perfect choice for a quiet pint or to meet up with friends too.

Nice little pub, choice of 8 on draught. Came in just after 9 and the barman said they are closing soon. Nice log fire is always a win.

Never again! Our starters were average, the ‘butterfly prawn’ was mostly bread crumb and very little prawn and extremely dry. The chicken Shashlick was cooked to almost sawdust, dry and tough and inedible. Why do you get a punnet of salad? It is neither in keeping or in this case edible.

It isn’t that often I visit The Windmill, but I know the place well enough to know something is very different. There was a different aura in the air today. I didn’t recognise any of the staff members, and whilst they seemed like a large family, they were all unique and discombobulated in their own ways. I must start with some high praise - we were greeted very kindly by a lovely tall Irish lady with a beaming smile. Whilst very busy, she was also very accompanying and allowed us to buy a few of their home-made pint glasses (which she said she wasn’t supposed to do). Hats off to her for the hospitality. Sadly things took a slight turn for the worse whilst we were seated. It was only myself and my partner ordering some pub grub, however, after a brief conversation with the waiter it was quickly apparent that some kind of knowledge barrier prevented us from ordering exactly what we wanted. I have a suspicion this older gentleman was a distinguished chef from years gone by, because there wasn’t a single word I understood in his recommendations. Embarrassingly, we decided to opt for a few beers at the bar before ordering food instead. I must admit, that was a saving grace, for their homemade beer ‘Hawkstone’ was divine. The bartender was full of dry wit which added to a great atmosphere amongst the other guests. He has that familiar family friendly humour, like you wouldn’t be surprised to see him on TV! Not only was the beer exceptional in quality, the slight intoxication seemed to clear up some of the brain fog I was experiencing earlier, since the waiter suddenly seemed to made a lot more sense! So, we finally ordered our meal and enjoyed some local produce - again, simply divine. Despite the great tastes and atmosphere, I couldn’t help but feel the service was jeopardised by the initial language barrier. As such, I did ask the waiter if we could remove our service charge. I should add, this was a new waiter at the time, a dreary English chap who wasn’t impressed with our request. Whilst his thorough and detailed lecture around why a service charge holds such an important role in the overarching finance of the food industry, I tried to hold my ground and get this removed from the bill. It was only after we realised my partner had been asleep for 8 minutes that we sped things up, paid the bill with a 50/50 compromise on the service charge, and got ourselves out of there. All in all, I’d recommend the establishment because, despite some teething problems and unorthodox scenarios, the people are genuine and the food/drink is exceptional. Just keep an eye out for those tractors (given the rural area) - a young man with curly blonde hair had completely blocked my car in so we had to wait half an hour to leave!
