Had a lovely lunch here. Food was gorgeous. We all enjoyed our meals and Abby and Lucy were really friendly and attentive servers.

Great Sunday Lunch good value for money and excellent service from Chloe and Sarah. We dine at the Cottage and are always pleased. Highly recommend.

My wife and I have been to The Old Cottage on many occasions. We treated our granddaughter, who is studying at Cardiff University, for lunch. The building itself is beautiful from the outside and the interior is tastefully modernised. The staff are friendly and helpful and the service efficient. The food was good and well cooked. The sea bass was particularly good, as were the beef and Malbec pie (beautiful crust) and the chicken pie. We felt the three scallops for the starter were rather expensive. A suggestion: we arrived at coffee time in order to have a catch-up after travelling from the West Midlands. On the tables were tags advertising small bites; olives, peppers and the like (three for £15). We should have liked to have had these whilst drinking our coffees but they were not available until 12.00noon, too close to lunch. Great food and a lively atmosphere. Our servers Gemma and Joe looked after us cery well and nothing was too much trouble.

We visited tonight for an anniversary meal. Matt and his staff were welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. On arrival we were welcomed immediately and shown to a lovely cosy spot by the fire. we chose the mushrooms to start which were delivered in record time and an excellent choice. We followed with a Rib eye and Filet steak with all the trimmings and a sauce on the side. I had Bernaise and my husband a red wine. Both were delicious and as good as each other. The steaks were cooked to perfection too. We were quite full at this point but couldn’t resist sharing the Trio of cheesecake balls. These were a delicious and unusual twist on the conventional cheesecake. A resounding 10 out of 10 shout out for the Old Cottage. We will certainly be visiting again in the very near future.

Such a pity, service was extremely slow this evening and the food was well below standard expected for the price. The dirty burger was basic for it's price, small patty and a basic bun. The sea bass was a extremely small portion, where the fish was over salted, over cooked and dry underneath, with the accompanying vegetables over cooked and watery, I had 2 small baby potatoes !! Very nice atmosphere and ambience in the pub. Staff were polite and attentive and a fire is always a positive. However the food was very average/disappointing. The Ribeye steak was extremely thin and quite tasteless, chips nice though. Duck was dry and again tasteless. Considering the cost of the food we were left very underwhelmed. There are a lot of great food options in and around Cardiff so I certainly wouldn’t rush back! Would have complained there and then but the meal was a treat and you don’t want to appear ungrateful!

Son’s meal, belly pork and scallops was fine. Wife had roast celeriac was ok, but no pesto as advertised I had cod and chips. Cod had skin on, pea purée was lumpy, chips were cheap frozen mass produced rubbish. Could get better in Porthcawl for half the price Overall very poor, considering the prices charged. Just happy visiting son that we won’t see for another 9 months was happy with his meal.

The pub has good parking and is well presented inside. Service is good. Dog friendly. My issue was the food- only ordered desserts and they were not great. Also not cheap for the quality. Maybe mains are better? Wouldn’t eat there again personally but ok for drinks and catching up with friends.

Went for a Sunday roast with a friend at the weekend and it was a great experience all round! Had the duo beef roast, which was extremely tasty followed by the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. I didn’t have any alcoholic drinks but loved that they had all types of soft drinks / mocktailes including a lychee soda which was really tasty. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Meals were accurately priced for the quality. Would absolutely visit again!

This beautiful cottage pub is truly special. The service here is impeccable, and thanks to our super star server, Gemma, who couldn't do enough for us, it was a very enjoyable meal. The food here is stunning, total compliment to the chef and all the catering staff who were working behind doors. Accessibility of the cottage is also very good. There is a rear car park with 3 disabled places. My mum, who has very bad mobility, was able to manoeuvre through the cottage very well. We will definitely be coming back here for more delicious food and top quality service.

A couple of my friends are (new) regulars here and have been trying to take me here for the last 3 months, and we finally got a reservation! Totally worth the wait! The atmosphere is lovely; gorgeous, comfy, plush decor that I wish I had in my home! And the service is outstanding! As in…the servers are so discreet, you almost don’t notice them, it’s just that everything is perfect and the people making it perfect are quietly lovely. Two of our group on this occasion were gluten free, with one of them being seriously celiac, and this did not phase any of the staff whatsoever. They seemed more than happy to accommodate any health requests, and when we praised their handling of us, they explained that they are very highly trained in food safely and allergen awareness. Which brings me to the food…! I had the whipped goats cheese with beetroot, poached pear and blackcurrant jus to start, and it was spectacular. I followed this with the best pork belly I’ve ever had, served with scallops, which were decadent little morsels of perfection. I was completely full after all this, but still didn’t manage to resist the (gluten free!) sticky toffee pudding, which made my life. One friend had the pavlova, and I think it might be the only dessert on the menu that was better than the sticky toffee pudding! So, to summarise…well, suffice to say, I’ve already rung my mum to tell her about this amazing pub that I can’t wait to bring her to, and if that isn’t a ringing endorsement, I don’t know what is!

The food is certainly good quality but, as is often the case, they stint on the vegetables, so you're left feeling that it's a bit too expensive for what you get. Or, at the risk of being cynical, it makes people more likely to order a pudding (which do seem unduly pricey).

Lovely food, reasonably quick service. They did initially bring the wrong cut of steak but it was sorted out quickly and without fuss. Unfortunately, this did mean that my son did not really eat with the family as we were almost finished by the time his meal was replaced.

We weee sat in the nook near the bar, not in the restaurant although I booked the restaurant. The music was very loud and we weee the only people in there. The room was cold and so our starters went cold very quickly. That said the rest of the meal was delicious.

Updated review: we've visited here twice recently. Pleasantly surprised by the food on both occasions. The roast dinner was delicious, the, everyone enjoyed all meals. A couple of suggestions to push this into a really fab restaurant - on both occasions there were quite a few items missing from the menu, although not a major issue for us as we are not particularly fussy, I'm sure it would be for others. Better ordering would help. The restaurant is a bit uncomfortable - bright, hot and humid with the kitchen in it, maybe worth looking at this longer term and service was a bit odd - wrong drinks, slow drinks and food sat waiting to be served for quite a while. Sophie, Ben, Jess & team were absolutely fantastic on Christmas Day. We had the most amazing service. We have a lot of pubs around our area and the cottage has by far the best service. This is testament to the amazing team running the show and be so professional & passionate about their job.

Sadly a pre planned 16th birthday party ended up being stressful and a very poor experience. All food was pre ordered, starters messed up. Table not cleared. Service very poor, staff completely overwhelmed. 20% discount on bill, but experience and occasion spoilt. Very disappointing.

Food very disappointing, my birthday treat was anything but. What is this preoccupation with under-cooking vegetables? No-one likes over cooked, mushy vegs, but, please----they do need to be cooked through, not rock hard. I actually struggled to get my steak knife through my roast potatoes & carrots, they were so undercooked. The accompanying green vegs were mixed, & had sliced leeks through them. What about those of us who detest onions, but love the other greens? Very, very poor. The place was overcrowded, leading to fractured service it was also very overheated. Not somewhere we will rush back to.

Went for a double birthday celebration, have been lots of times before and the Old Cottage always comes up with the goods. Starter main and dessert, all five of us came away happy. Yum!

Food really is great, the lunch menu is a very good deal. The amount of food and quality means you really should come here more than once. We came here multiple times. Lunch menu to enjoy the fish and chips which is huge and fresh with a lovely thin batter. The starters are a good size and fresh. The desserts are nice. Ice cream is delicious, the crumble is lovely. We tried the Christmas menu, turkey was moist and I hope they gave a bit more pigs in blankets as they only gave one and I asked for one extra and got one extra. Poached pear was lovely. I eat here regularly. It's always good food. I believe they are part of the miller and carter group and the steak is certainly as good as a fraction of the price. They do a wide range of food and steak is just one option. It's also just a generally nice and cosy bar.

Belly pork was very tasty and lovely little pulled pork bon bon, my only small criticism would be the crackling, it was more for show and wasn't 'crackled' enough. Overall, very full and would definitely come again.
