Great little place with friendly staff

Pleasantly surprised. Visited lunchtime on a Saturday. Wife and I both had the steak n ale, chips and minted mushy peas. Pie filled and cooked to perfection. More than enough chips and peas were great. Will visit again.

Really pleased with our visit to “The Pieminister” in Cardiff! The two girls working that bank holiday weekend were friendly and efficient. Drinks arrived super fast and the food was served just as quickly! The food was hot and presented perfectly! Well done girls!! You smashed it!!!

At the end of our last full day in Cardiff, we decided to have dinner at Pieminister. Big mistake, we should have checked it our on our first night and then maybe had a couple of lunches as WELL as our final dinner. I had the Moo & Blu pie, the granddaughter had "just" the Moo, and Grandma had "the Heidi", sweet-potatoe, spinach & goat cheese (I'm sure many other ingredients) and we ALL loved our dishes (& each others'). Service was prompt, friendly and NOT disruptive -- I hate when you're bothered every 5 minutes. We were well attended and had a wonderful time. They offer a drink special, I'm not a heavy drinker, but I should've taken advantage of it as I ended up ordering a second drink. I figure it was worth a GBP 1.00 to have the drink served up cold with unmelted ice rather than ordering 2 and having the 2nd one melt while I drank the first one. Waitstaff was friendly, efficient and effective. The atmosphere was fun, surprisingly quiet for the number of people. We had a great meal as well as a great time. I'm not a desert kinda guy, unless it's Banana's Foster but we went for the Pecan Pie Sunday and it was VERY good -- I'd do it again unless the Toffee was available...

Booked a table for 7.45pm to be told on arrival they close at 8.30-8.45pm. This made us feel rushed and unwelcome from the start. It was too late for us to find anywhere else. I ordered a mother earth meal as was keen to try the fritters. When food was served I was told they didn't have fritters so had replaced them with peppers. A generally disappointing experience for what was a one off family trip. The food was good and pies were very tasty but we didn't have time for dessert.

Just eaten in there. Chips rock hard, pie where was the beef and mushy peas, so sweet was unbelievable! Would not recommend. Been here before but gone right down hill. They used excuse were busy in day. That is no excuse, only about 4 people there when we were there!

I was so excited that gluten free pies and beer was found here! The service was quick, and reasonably priced.

Chloe C is a legend of a server, anytime we're in Cardiff we stop at pieminister to see her and have a fantastic pie and cocktails!

Food was ok. Standard pies & sides. Wanted to enjoy the meal outside in libel 27 degrees. But the outdoor seating is for decoration purposes only. It’s a pity.

Really disappointing unfortunately. We had two different vegan pies with mash, gravy, peas, and fritter. The pies themselves were great, you can buy them in the supermarkets and they’re always delicious. Gravy and fritter were nice. Portions and presentation were also good. Staff were friendly and atmosphere was fine (music a little loud), but that’s where the good parts end. The mash and peas were horrible. The mash was completely tasteless, weird texture, lumpy, and cold. The peas were not nice ones if you know what I mean, they were hard inside, tasteless, and barely warm. The tea cups my friends were given were visibly dirty with stains and tea that we could scratch off with a fingernail. Cutlery also didn’t look very clean and my glass was all scratched up so not sure what all of that was about. I’m really sorry to say that we were really looking forward to our visit but we’re super let down and won’t be returning unless things improved massively.

Very solid chain with 4 vegan pie options on the menu and 3 taps--one of which is cider. Pies can be shared if you're not too hungry or get your own if you are.

It was nice to visit a restaurant where when you order a pie you get a pie, rather than getting some stew with pastry on top. It would have been better if it was a bit warmer though.

Gravy was so flavourless I thought I had covid. Pies were profoundly mid. No taste and not warm enough. Didn't taste like it was made in-house. The food just tasted defeated. Parsnip and kale fritters were okay.

Great food, good service, and quick turnaround. Menu has limited choice available, but does cater to vegans/vegetarians as well as meat lovers. Portions aren't big, but the food is tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful. I've never had a bad meal here, and I've visited a number of times. Not amazingly accessible for wheelchair users, though there is level access. The booths are quite narrow, so a little tight for those of us that are a little bigger than average.

Thought the food sounded nice so me and the wife went in for pie and mash. Her pie was flavourless, mash is like baby food and add the gravy in the mix, it's just slop. Chef also ate bits as he was cooking, never washed his hands and plated pies with his bare hand. Pretty gross. Have added more stars than I was going to as the lady at the front of house did her best to keep it all together. Won't be returning.

The pies are ok- relatively sure cooked from frozen Veg and mash may have been microwaved? None of the food tastes home made or fresh 'roasties' are just overcooked diced potatoes and taste quite salty The fizzy elderflower was tasteless It was all edible- but not quite the experience I was hoping for

I'm one happy women just had pie & chips being GF (celiacs) terrible job normally finding anywhere for celiacs. Bronwen , service excellent 👌 and that Beth done amazing recommend it.

An amazing place with really good pies. As someone with celiac as well I was very happy to find out they have a gluten free menu available (+ gluten free beer). The service we got from Bron was fantastic, and she was very helpful. Great value for your money and absolutely a place to recommend!

WOW. 🤩 We are here from the U.S. and I will surely dream about the pot pie I had here for years to come. The (vegetarian) wild shroom pot pie was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! So savory & delicious. It’s such a wonderful treat to have so many vegetarian options on the menu as well. 10 out of 10, would recommend this amazing spot!

A friendly place with very good food. I am celiac and I was able to order a gluten free pie.. it was super yummy and it tasted like it had gluten (of course it was gluten free because I didn't get sick). The pie was given with a meat sauce.. so so yummy. I don't know if it was correct, but I put the sauce all over the pie and the result was spectacular. They had gluten free beer, so I was able to drink it. Absolutely recommended and I'd love to come here again, if I ever get the chance.

Met up for lunch and had the Moolin Rouge Pie with mash and peas - really good would definitely recommend. Service was great and our server was very friendly. I will definitely come back again!

Took my mom to try a pie and mash for the first time (even though she ended up getting fries) and had a wonderful experience! The service from Bron was fantastic and she answered all questions we had (and had great menu recommendations). Our food came out quickly and it was nice and hot (perfect for a rainy day) so shoutout to Martin in the kitchen as well. I opted for the vegan chicken/bacon pie mother earth me and my mom had the fungi chicken gravy meal. Both were delicious and the portions were so large we couldn’t finish. Too bad because it was really tasty - especially the gravy. I definitely will be back! Oh, and be sure to download the app for rewards/accumulating points!

I loved the gluten free menu! The mooless jack fruit pie was so tasty, with warm lush gravy. We also had a super-friendly waitress, which made the experience even better. Would recommend, I’ll have to try the gluten free Peroni next time!

Sons birthday and he suggested this place. I am very familiar with the Raven in Bath that according to legend use the Pieminster recipes for their pies. The service was good as, generally, were the three pies that we had with fries: Moo Pie, Moolin Rouge, Kate & Sidney that was ordered with decent mushy peas. So far so good, were it not for the gravy. We all had the same ‘house’ variety that came in three small stainless steel gravy boats. All three contained liquids that can only be described as Awful. Once sampled then left well alone. We complained to the waitress who said she agreed with us that it was poor and that there had been a recipe change. I suspect this had two ingredients: 1) cheap beef stock cube and 2) boiling water. I also suspect that there would be a riot in the Raven@Bath were they to serve this. The Raven will stay as a my place for decent pies

Delicious gluten free moo pie as always. Unfortunately the potion size of the mash potato gets smaller every time I place an order.

Came in on Wednesday. Great venue! Friendly, helpful staff and good food! Had the moo which was told was their most popular pie and it did not disappoint!

Nice place to eat gluten free pies.

We were a party of 4 and had pre booked our visit. We had a starter to share one of which was crackling and it was so hard you couldn't hear anything else as you chomped on it, but the halloumi chips were ok. My pies came out, with the minted peas on top which meant the pie top was soggy and the mash around the pie. It looked a mess, tastewise it was ok but I prefer my pies to be a bit crispy. The gravy was nice enough. We also each had a cocktail, they all came without any ice and were warm, and they all tasted very syruppy and not very nice. We were app really quite disappointed.

The pies were ok, service was not engaging and it was quite loud in there. They do vegan options which is good. I would come here again once I'm a blue moon as it's a convenient location.

I dropped in mid afternoon and was the only person in the place. The service was good and I thought the atmosphere was pretty good for a chain restaurant. The pie and sides were tasty though I'm no conneseur of British cuisine. I'd stop in again if I was looking for pies with veg/vegan options.

Excellent visit! Fun place, super-friendly and welcoming service, pies were delicious and good gluten free choices. Was our first visit to Pieminister and looking forward to many more.

My son in law raced about this place and I would not be disappointed how wrong he was we was the first ones in as not open but kindly let us in due to the rain. Sat took our order's only to find half of the very small menu was missing no chips only mashed potato which was packet mash very sad effort and the pie was was no better pastry that was only half cooked most just dough and the contents was tasteless. Happy to say first and last time

Before my review I just want to point out that I have no issues with the poor staff at this restaurant, but the shocking management - or lack of any form of management. We arrived for a 5:30 booking on a Friday evening to see one staff member on the floor, and one in the kitchen. We were seated in a very tight booth, being larger than a 12 year old child we struggled to all fit in so one of us had to grab a chair and sit on the end of the table. We were seated quickly, but we were waiting 20-25 minutes for our drinks order to be taken. Given that one staff member was seating customers, taking out food orders, taking payments, dealing with Deliveroo Drivers, taking orders and making drinks behind the bar I’m not surprised it took so long. Drinks then took another 15 minutes to arrive, but we received tea with no milk, sugar or tea spoon and I’m still waiting for my jug of water. We asked the kitchen staff for milk and sugar but gave up on the tea spoon. Our food was ready pretty quickly, but was sat under the “hot plate” for probably about 25 minutes. Hot Plate is a very generous term - a fart could have kept the food warmer for longer. So many Deliveroo drivers coming and going didn’t help keep food warm. Our food finally arrived (it had been about 45 minutes since we’d entered and we’re all absolutely starving), because the tables are so tightly packed our waitress couldn’t actually get behind anyone to serve food in a proper manner, so serving platters are being passed over our heads. Then my food finally arrives, and the platter tips and an entire gravy boats spills over me. What bright spark decided that metal gravy boats on wooden platters with no grip were a good idea?! We were left to clean the mess ourselves, nobody checking to make sure we were OK or if we needed anything. We had to hunt someone down in the kitchen and were given two measly squares of Blu Roll to clean up with at that was the end of the roll. After cleaning as much gravy off myself as I could, I then go back to my meal which was stone cold. Luckily, the gravy was also cold so I had more chance of getting Frost Bite than being burnt. I doubt anyone would have been able to do anything at all if the food was actually hot / edible and I had been burnt so that was the highlight of my night. Terrible service, absolute shambles on behalf of the non existent management, badly run restaurant (who schedules TWO staff in the entire restaurant on a Friday?!) inedible food and an awful experience. Clearly a restaurant more focused on Deliveroo than in restaurant meals. Completely ruined our evening plans as I had no desire to go out in Cardiff smelling of Gravy - our night out turned into sitting at home trying to get Gravy out of my leggings.

Came in out of the cold and was greeted by a warm smile courtesy of Chloe. She directed us to our table and gave us our menus. We ordered drinks straight away, which were brought to our table in good time. I wasn't sure what I wanted to order, so Chloe talked me through the menu. I chose a Moo and I have to say it was wonderful. I would like to thank Chloe for being so lovely and attentive. We will definitely come again and try the other menu items that she recommended. Fantastic pie! Fantastic service!
