We had an amazing experience for my wife’s 50th birthday celebration lunch. Jess looked after us extremely well with the support of her happy helpful team. Service was swift and on point, and the food was deliciously tasty and very reasonably priced. The atmosphere was very warm and friendly, in a traditional pub restaurant with a modern up to date feel too. It was great to feel the happy vibe throughout the establishment and will certainly be back again very soon. Thanks for everything Jess and Team Simon, Jo and family

Very welcoming staff. Lovely clean and spacious area. I didn't order food, but what I saw others eat looked fantastic. Car parking and WiFi available here too.

Love this pub restaurant the food is amazing staff are the best I live in Plymouth and travel to Cardiff every weekend if I don't go to old cottage for food on a Friday I'm fumming lol you won't be disappointed this really is best restaurant in Cardiff can't recommend it enough and I'm really critical of restaurants Ash and Gemma are very good as all the staff

I had the buttermilk chicken burger and it was the best burger I’ve ever had, the staff are beyond lovely and it has such a good cosy atmosphere. I brought my puppy with me and they were all so kind to her. Couldn’t recommend enough

Best roast dinner around Cardiff. Friendly service. Lots of choice. They cater very well for allergies too. Cauliflower cheese and gravy is GF. Never have any issues eating here. Roasts are around £17-22pp.

All 3 courses cooked to perfection, especially the rump. Of lamb. Service by Fran and Sophie was courteous, friendly and professional. Highly recommended.

Prawns and steak were great, Gemma was a lovely waitress very attentive and smiley!

Lovely bar area. Restaurant lovely but a bit cold. Food- great Sunday lunch only let down was the Parsnips. Hubby also had the chicken pie which was delicious! Lovely mocktails. Met up with friends for a nice meal. Very dog friendly place, with bar treats for well behaved puppies. Good friendly staff, prompt service. Worth a repeat visit.

We ordered our main at the bar and the barman asked us to pay. Which we did, our food arrived quickly. My husband had cod & chips he said it was great and a good size portion. I ordered the Vegan stew, which was really tasty but the portion size for £17 wouldn’t have filled a child it was very small. We then noticed that both of our meals were on the fixed price two courses for £18.95. So we asked for two desserts, we were told that we couldn’t do that as we had already paid. Our argument was why didn’t the barman tell us about this deal when he handed us the menu. Nothing mentioned to us, so he would not agree to us ordering a desert for the meal offer. We left feeling let down, the owner just didn’t care. Although my husband left full, I came home hungry and had to make a sandwich. Totally disappointed, and let down. Hence only 3 stars.

Our daughter visited from Oxford and we took her to the Old Cottage for her birthday lunch. Big mistake! The Sunday lunch was served on stone cold plates, meaning the food was half cold when it arrived. I ordered the duo of beef. It was £21.50 and for that price I expected more than one slice of beef and what can only be described as a sample from an autopsy! It was a piece of fat, together with ventricles and no sign of any meat at all. I felt sick just looking at it and asked for it to be replaced. My husband chose the trio of meats, which consisted of a piece of bony chicken with hardly any meat, a very fatty piece of pork, again with only a little meat and one slice of thin beef. All the food was cold and I couldn't eat mine as I was still feeling nauseous after the sight of my 'meat'. We were sat in the bar area, as we'd taken our dogs with us, which meant we had to pay for our meal up front. If we'd paid after eating, we would have refused to pay in full. The quality of the food was so, so poor. It makes me very angry when you go out for a special occasion and it's ruined by shoddiness and poor quality food. Warming the plates is basic stuff, who wants to eat their Sunday roast cold. At £21.50 per head I expected some decent meat on my plate, I was absolutely shocked at the poor quality we were served. We felt robbed and won't be returning.

Service was a little slow, hot drinks were very late so taken off the bill. The fruit dessert we asked for without coconut ice cream the waitress that brought them over slammed the other dessert down in a rude manner. Original waitress was lovely. Alcoholic Drinks were very slow arriving. More gravy needed for the Sunday dinner, we requested more and took so long dinner was nearly finished. Joanna

Haven't been to this pub for years and sorry to say it's just as much of a disappointment as it was before. Overpriced for what it is (a pub) food is average and much better in the area for your money. Atmosphere quickly went from "chilled out venue" to "pretentious only playground" sorry guys but I'm not sure what you're tying to be? Staff were friendly and accommodating but that's the only positive.

Food was okay. Service is a bit slow, and we had to go to the bar to order our food. Starters were nice but for the chicken pate there wasn’t enough bread. Main meals, we had the Gamon Steak and Eggs which was nicely cooked and the Steak sandwich. The steak was a bit chewy and the foccacia bread a bit stale.

Food is really good and I love the decor. Service was good, but they had a lot to do and not enough staff from what I could see.

It was the worst meal ever, I had a fillet steak sandwich the bread was stale and the little steak I had had been cooked over and over, my husband had sausage and mash 3 dried up sausages with a spoonful of mash, we will never eat there again and I wouldn't recommend the place to anyone.

Excellent across the board. Staff are well-trained and knowledgeable. Prices are a little higher than the average gournet-pub but the very broad menu includes a lot of creativity and twists which lifts it well-above the bog-standard and predictable offerings of most other establishments of this type.

Tuesday night meal. Not busy. Advised it’s a birthday meal and quiet location requested. Meal ok. Location in general area. Argentinian Malbec Wine uncorked but cork not offered for inspection. Hot drinks (cappuccino and espresso) served well before desserts brought to table so went cold. Just poor attention to details. Tipped 15% regardless.

We had not booked but were offered a table in the bar. The staff were efficient and friendly . The Sunday lunch was excellent: beef roast and an unususl fig and dolcelatte roast. Both were really enjoyed and the cauliflower cheese was delicious.

Family had Sunday lunch at The Old Cottage. Everyone thought the food was excellent and the service very friendly and efficient. On a sunny afternoon the beer garden is a very pleasant spot. I envisage we will visit quite regularly going forward.

Gorgeous country pub with pretty garden, Sunday lunch was probably one of the best I’ve had in many years, superb! Worth the money. Nice little walk in Cefn on Park which is directly behind the pub to burn off the extra calories. Highly recommended

Lovely place, although a little pricey .

Excellent value deal - wine and dine - and beautiful food. The only down side is that it was apparent staff didn't know we had booked that package and had not read my comments, noting it was my birthday and that we wanted a good table in the restaurant.

I had the fish and was told it had potatoes on the side . It can out with two small cubes of potatoes lurking under the fish. Was charged 4.50 for soda water! Will definitely not be going there again!

This place is back with a bang - thank goodness! Had an awful experience with their food which put us off, on that occasion it was bad enough that I did complain. We popped back in for lunch after a dog walk recently the food was great! After a conversation with bar staff they had had am overhaul of kitchen staff. 100% worth it! Burger was fantastic and they have a great selection of alcohol, including Neck oil and asahi on tap. Beer garden is lovely and shady and dog friendly! So is the bar area.

First timers and we will be back.

First of the staff were spot on fantastic.. the food not so impressed, had the beef sandwich and chicken,rocket and mozzarella sandwich both were not overly good, minimal beef in one and rocket was replaced with watercress and a few strands of mozzarella in the other.. expected more for the cost of what was a sandwich with fries..had evening food there before which was tidy.

The pub is set in a lovely location. 9 of us had an early evening meal on Sunday. The food was lovely and everyone enjoyed their meal. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was very relaxed.. We would definitely come again.
