Delicious, freshly fried fish and chips with homemade curry sauce and gravy. The chips are crispy on the outside, creamy in the center. The fish (cod) is beautifully battered and delicious. The gravy is lovely but the homemade curry sauce is the unsung hero. Service is friendly and efficient. Despite the queue, everything was served quickly and piping hot. A real star along Cardiff’s "chippy lane."

Batter on the fish waa stodgy and un cooked and the chips were poor, there are better alternatives close by.

Sólo patatas fritas y salsa de curry para mí después del hockey sobre hielo. Salsa tan buena como siempre pero patatas fritas no tan buenas como mis visitas anteriores pero aceptable y picante. Cuidado con muchos mendigos agresivos en la zona tristemente.

Such a con. Called in here about 8pm asked for sausage in batter & Chips. They put in a cone didn't ask if i wanted wrapped or not, positioned the sausage upright and placed some chips around it. Turned out there was only about 15 chips, and cost £6.50. Ended up hungrier than before I ordered it.. Go to tonys prob next time get more chips..?

Dorothy’s on Caroline Street was my go to place for Chicken Curry & Chips on a Saturday night in Cardiff for years. The best.

The food was good. The Fish and Chips were good. 3 other places on this same street, choose wisely.

Been going here for years. I think the food is good, I've never been there when I was sober.

It's 1pm. Had jumbo sausage, chips and curry sauce for £8:50. It was awful. The sausage was okay. it's just a sausage. The curry sauce was made from a packet but the chips looked like they had been kept warm for an hour and dipped back in the fat to many times. Very brown, dry and inedible. At £8:50 over priced too.

Had the chicken curry and chips. Plenty of meat, curry was what you'd expect from a chippy. Pretty standard. Tried a corned beef rissole for the first time, it was very nice and would definitely get again. Great service.

Absolutely amazing staff & the fish and chips was excellent.

A lovely cafe style chippy, the servers were very friendly and efficient, I had the cod which was tasty and very chunky and the batter was perfect, the chips, gravy, peas and sausages were all spot on, all of our food was hot, fresh and very tasty and served very quickly, the prices are very reasonable here, wouldn't hesitate to return next time we visit Cardiff.

The children shared a large fish & chips each which was enough for them. They started eating and they all went silent for 2 minutes! They loved the fish and chips and so did we, cooked fresh as we ordered. The staff were super helpful and kind, they offered us to sit down put together all the tables and chairs, sauces that the children needed and gave them extra boxes to share their food in. Definitely go here again for the food and the kindness of staff. 🙂

On a Wednesday evening at 6pm took 12 spainish children (8 & 9 years old) to Dorothy's so they could have fish and chips, the staff were very friendly and helpful, they put some tables together so the children could all sit together. They cooked 12 portions of fish and chips from fresh in a very short period of time, the food was excellent. All the children went quiet while eating, which is clearly a very good sign. A really enjoyable experience, top class service and food. Well done and a massive thank you.

Fantastic piece of Fish cooked to order so expect a ten minute wait. Every second of that wait was worth it the fish was second to none. The staff are really friendly too.

Great spot for late night eats. we googled reviews on where to eat late night in Cardiff, this is the first place that popped up after 11 PM. It did not disappoint. There’s a very manageable lineup outside, and you get your order in, in under 10 minutes. We were here with our kids. Our youngest had the sausage and chips , our teenager had the chicken curry and chips, my wife and I split a cod in a box - which was a very large, serving of freshly fried cod, with chips, and mushy peas. We decided to eat in. The dine in spot is very basic. But the food was very good, especially for the price. The staff were very hospitable, knowledgable about allergies, and accommodated us in, and explain a little bit about the 70 year history of the restaurant - especially Tanya. She was so great at taking care of us, checking in on if we needed anything, and making sure the food was good. Highly recommended. Great spot! Great people!

Been coming her since my Dad used to bring me in the 1960s. Havent been for a while as chips have not been very nice on last few visits but thought Id try them again today. The chips were absolutely disgusting, the worst ever and not even edible, gave me a bad stomach later. Wish I had been in a position to take them back and ask if they would eat these. Never again, I will not be going back.

Went in when just opened at 11am. Got the chicken curry & chips for £7 to eat in. Excellent !! Loads of chicken in a flavoursome curry sauce. Fantastic value at just £7. Staff were ace. Very good value for money. Highly recommend.

This is always my first choice if I crave some quick food on matchday. Staff are friendly and efficient, even on the busiest of days. Food always comes out quickly and tastes superb.

I had to try out the gravy and chips. Everybody seemed to coming out of the pubs and heading for here. Dry long drunk queue but worth the wait. It was only gravy and chips but was it was tasty

We were looking to get some carbs on board prior to the Prodigy gig in Cardiff, some 'fat of the land' you could say . Picked Dorothy's at random, with some trepidation but it was quite busy 'everybody was in the place'. No need to have worried, I could 'breath' easy. Freshly cooked chips that were up there with the best, a generous portion (not quite '3 kilos') a battered jumbo sausage with no gristly bits and a good classic flavour with decent batter. The coup de gras though was the curry sauce, absolute 'serial thrilla', much more tasty than the usual pale yellow chip shop gloopy 'poison' and with a perfect consistency. We ate inside, not 'out of space' it was very clean and the staff were friendly and polite, definately not 'voodoo people'. I recommend a visit and give Dorothy's 'your love' . The gig was great by the way.

Local to the hotel we stayed at so popped in as they have a seating area and it was not too warm outside. Ordered and cooked whilst we waited. Fish portion was quite large, but as a previous reviewer stated the only offer cod, but tasty. Have to consider owner's position - how many people are willing to pay a premium for plaice and if not then they have to discard. Chips were freshly cooked and whole experience pleasing. Would visit again

How can you not get chips here at the end of a night out in Cardiff .... chips cheese and gravy is the best

Amazing quality chips and sausage in batter always cooked to a high quality standard, staff are fab too so friendly and chatty would highly recommend to come hear.

Been coming here for many years when in town and enjoyed but the Chicken Curry off the bone was very poor and not as good as it used to be, reading other comments it seems to be a trend, sorry will not be going back again

Cracking food especially the chicken curry and chip's from an establishment that's been there for year's. Staff superb even late at night after the beer had been flowing, the curry was that nice I went back the following lunch time and had it again

It's fish 'n chips and fish 'n chips can't fail to please if it's done properly, using fresh fish, proper spuds, and l the right consistency of batter, cooked in the best frying oil at the right temperature. Well Dorothy's has certainly got it right because I couldn't fault it, and the chunk of fish was so big I had to ask for a doggy bag. So full marks on that, and for the cosy dine-in area in which to enjoy it. However, Dorothy's is typical of 99% fish bars in Cardiff in that the only fish in the sea is cod, which is boring. Also, if tables and chairs are there for dining in, why not proper crockery and real cutlery and a glass for your drink instead of disposable paper and plastic. If they gave me a small discount. I'd happily wash my own dishes. So good but not exceptionally so, which misses the mark, unfortunately.

Great food and great service I went to Dorothy's as part of a rugby weekend and needed to order for 40 people. The manager (Tas) made sure to cook the food at just the right time so when we picked it up it was freshly made and hot. Everyone loves their food. It included: Cod and chips Chicken Curry and chips (Dorothy's famous dish) Battered sausage and chips And lots of chips. Tas also have us curry sauce, Tesco, vinegar, salt, napkins and cutlery for 40 people. The team were great. Thank you Would highly recommend

Chips aren’t quite cooked and taste like the frozen stuff you get at the store. Fish was ok, although I had some heavy oily pockets as I was chewing through.

Incredible flavours after a night out

Visited Dorothy’s last night around 9pm for the first time in a while and was really looking forward to their famous “ chicken curry off the bone & chips “ . Well all I can say was it tasted like eating a tray of salt . Absolutely disgusting. Will not be returning , really disappointed. Must do better.

I had a fantastic shopping trip to Cardiff with my sister. We spent several hours browsing all the high street favourites such as Next, Monsoon, Primark, Pandora and Boots before visiting the indoor market. Before heading home we popped to Dorothy's on Caroline Street for our takeaway favourites. I ordered the chicken curry and chips which were out of this world. My sister ordered a jumbo battered sausage with chips and gravy. She also took home an assortment of pies for her husband and children. The food was piping hot and very reasonably priced. Dorothy's was immaculately clean and the staff were friendly

Every time we stay in Cardiff which is our favourite place to stay at Christmas and we visit for the Rugby we always call back to DOROTHYS Which I can tell you it’s the CHICKEN CURRY AND CHIPS !! I’ve been a customer for 35 years and the taste and freshness sticks in my memory. My late husband and I loved it too god bless him ❤️ My partner of 6 years now looks forward to our MIDNIGHT MUNCH ❤️❤️

I have had two lunches here and what I like the best the fish is cooked to order. One is given a most generous portion in a overly light crispy batter. A must place to visit after visiting one of many Cardiff’s attractions.

I don’t live in Cardiff, but do visit frequently for events etc. Without a doubt every time I have to make a trip to chip shop alley! Dorothy’s is consistently good and I recommend everyone to try!! 😊 5 stars from me and the family!

Due to the pandemic, had to avoid eating out, but did have a takeaway instead. Cannot fault the quality of food supplied, and the curry sauce, an ideal winter warmer !! Dorothy's has not changed over many years, and staff are eager to please.

Best chips in Cardiff - maybe the world! Always freshly cooked and super tasty. I see someone whore a 1 star review after they had a bad chip there 6 years ago. I can’t Somme the on their experience but I’ve been to Dot’s MANY times in the last 5 years and have never had a bad experience ‍♂️

Mi pareja y yo hemos estado aquí muchas veces. No hay nada de cola cuando visitamos, y personal amable. Opté por el pollo al curry que recuerdo que siempre era el siguiente curry. Lo único que lo decepcionó fue que ya no tienen la opción de mitad y mitad, pero la comida sigue siendo deliciosa.

Have visited Dorothy's several times, usually after a few pints or a concert in Cardiff. The service is always polite and the food, indoor or takeaway, is delicious. The chips remind be of chip shop chips from my childhood and the fish, pies, sausages, curry etc are also very tasty. Highly recommended!

I went here because the reviews were good, but i was disappointed. The chips are fine, but the battered fish was tasteless, it wasn't the 'wow' factor that i wanted to experience & it was boring. The chips were a bit dry no matter how much vinegar, salt & tomato sauce i put on. If you like tasteless fish & chips, then go here. This the the sort of fish & chip bar after a night out people go here, because they are so drunk & can't taste whether the food is good or not. You can't complain how much you are paying for average food because it is not that expensive.I think next time i will just stick to another place to eat around the centre for on-the-go food

Chippy chips deliciosos yums. Al acercarme a la tienda en sí, pensé que parecía una caja de madera. Dentro de la caja de madera había un hombrecillo que servía algunas comidas pequeñas. Diré que mis ojos lucharon por concentrarse en el menú. ¿Por qué algunos de los nombres de los platos se organizaron en un círculo? Dios sabe. Estaba intrigado por la puerta enana en la pared. El pescado y las patatas fritas eran impresionantes. La masa estaba crujiente y crujiente pero suave y deliciosa. Un poco bien No había ningún asiento visible, así que mi amigo y yo comimos en la plataforma del tren frío y ventoso. Ñam ñam.
