The Old Boathouse in Wiltshire

This place is out of a storybook and so are the people working here! Michaela was wonderful in resolving my Internet connection issue - by giving a hotspot from her personal mobile 🙏 So I could send a time sensitive Teams meeting invite just in time. Thanks also for the delish Aranchini and heart warming hot chocolate. DEFO coming back 100% and HIGHLY recommend to all.

Firstly, the staff were pleasantly and efficient. One member of the party ordered a pepperoni pizza which definitely wasn't freshly cooked and of the frozen reheated varieties, it was dreadful. The chicken stuffed with sunblushed tomatoes was the same. Even worse was the texture of the chicken, it's like nothing I've ever been served before. The food arrived appropriately 10 minutes after order. Definitely not cooked or prepared from fresh. This was fast food at restaurant prices. As for the atmosphere, well that was spoiled by the food arriving so quickly making us feel we were in a McDonald's drive through and the weird dog policy. I don't want to sit in a restaurant being drooled at by someone's dog whilst I eat! Definitely won't be returning. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

Amazing experience and in particular the service we got from the waitress who served us was awesome. She went out of her way to make my wife’s birthday meal special.

We should have done our research better. Staying at the De Vere and the restaurant was sold by De Vere receptionist as Italian! Very basic, no ambiance, shocking quality food, dirty glasses and water pitcher (and I mean dirty) very young and inexperienced staff who didn’t have a clue and to cap it all eye-wateringly expensive.

We visited the Old Boathouse as we were staying in the hotel next door. We were seated in the front bar area as we had a dog with us. The kind lady gave my dog a treat. After waiting 10 minutes for service, we ordered our drinks and our food all together. Our starters then came out so quickly which was great but we hadn’t even got our drinks yet. By the time we had finished our starters it drinks arrived. The mains then came out and it was yummy, but average. Everything was average and I would say it is also overpriced.

The cafè is by the water and we were lucky enough to have the sun shining on the lake. Beautiful surroundings and very good breakfast!!! Service with a smile and warm welcome but a little bit expensive. I would go back for sure.

Amazing food, amazing service! We ordered the chicken and a steak and a bottle of wine and staff were very attentive and food spoke for itself. Suf brought such a happy vibe and really made our night, he deserves a raise!! Will hopefully come back!

We were staying in the De Vere hotel and walked here for our evening meal one night. It was a wild wet windy night otherwise we wouldn’t have bothered, but the bar in the hotel was overrun with noisy big parties and the restaurant was closed! It was a very disappointing meal, although brightened up by the lovely waitress….we wish we’d got her name. If she reads this she will know who she is because we had a discussion on the Lasagne Verdi. It turned out that the lasagne wasn’t green (as the name implies) and the meat wasn’t meat but quorn! She found that out for me before I ordered it! I decided against that and instead had the house special of tagliatelle with bacon and mushrooms in a carbonara sauce. My husband had the haddock and chips which he said was ok although the chips were so dry and boring….as most are these days! My tagliatelle was horrible as it was covered in lots of chopped up parsley, so every mouthful tasted of parsley…..and I hate parsley! The carbonara sauce seemed to be nonexistent, and it was all swimming in oil! It wasn’t a cheap meal as the fish and chips were £19.50 and the tagliatelle £19….plus drinks. Then they automatically added a 10% service charge which on the bottom of the bill said was discretionary!!! We wouldn’t normally have tipped a bad meal!

Me and my husband have visited the Old Boathouse many times for lunch, and every time we leave wanting to return. The staff are lovely, the food is lovely and the views are perfect. We would recommend to anyone

Not cheap but the Sunday lunch was fabulous, well cooked veg, loads of meat and pots and it was piping hot. Great surroundings, clean and lovely decorated in the bar and lounge area.

Very disappointed. We ordered the Sunday roast trio for £21, it arrived at our table worryingly quickly and the plate was ‘really hot’. The potatoes that were advertised as tumbled in beef dripping were literally frozen potatoes warmed through. My partners 1 pig in blanket didn’t even have bacon on. The meat was laughable. Thinly sliced and very tough. It seemed as if to save time the portions had already been plated up, reheated and a polystyrene Yorkshire pudding placed on top. Unfortunately after having an amazing weekend in the Cotswolds it was rounded off terribly with this roast. I would urge anyone wanting a nice Sunday roast in the Cotswolds to avoid The Old Boathouse. Such a shame for a lovely looking restaurant in an ideal location. Staff were friendly and service was ok.

Average is a push! Lovely location over the lake - let’s stop there! Staff are nice but clearly stretched and under resourced. Food was ok - chips way under par! Waitress couldn’t put food down quick enough and disappear. Didn’t even check if we needed anything such as ketchup. When collected plates didn’t ask how meal was. The chips specifically on my youngest son’s plate shouldn’t have passed any inspection as visibly horrid. We should have asked for them to be replaced but staff limited and rushing around like headless chickens. Won’t return in a hurry - shame as lovely location.

The staff in the restaurant are really lovely - particularly Josie and Liv who looked after us for dinner on two consecutive nights. We were here because we booked a Dinner, B&B package with the DeVere hotel next door. Dogs aren't allowed in the DeVere Brasserie and they point you to dinner in the Boathouse restaurant. Although the listing says the Boathouse is "dog friendly", dogs are only allowed in the bar area. Although the site is very proud of its view over the lake, if you are there with a dog, you won't see it. The bar area overlooks the car park and the tables where you can eat with a dog in tow are located away from the lovely view in the photos. The food was good from a limited menu but the placement of the "dog friendly" tables results in a 3 star review, which is a shame.

We went for Sunday lunch. 4 of us. It was absolutely awful. All of our food was disappointing .The pork was all fat, the parsnips were raw, the gravy was basically oil, the Yorkshire pudding turns to dust when you tried to eat them. The potatoes were undercooked. This was the most disappointing and disgusting meal weve ever had. Service was okay but they just wanted you out. They food was absolutely awful will not be returning. We complained and they gave us 1 free desert, 4 awful plates of food and 1 free dessert is a joke. I will never recommend this place.

We were here for a family meet-up weekend so there was a mixture of ages and tastes. The food was tasty and they got us all served very quickly which was great! Our server was Josie and she was fab! Professional, courteous and very funny - I thought she was excellent 😊. The menu is very similar to the hotel so eat at one or the other - the boathouse feels like going out so that’s nice!

Visit for my mother’s birthday and one of the best meals we’ve ever had. The staff was really friendly and kind. Especially our hostess Josie who ensured we had a lovely night and even treated us to a special birthday desert. The cheese platter was delightful and so was the soup. The portions for the mains were huge!! We enjoy the steak however the show stopper was the amazing lamb shank and mash!! Will definitely be coming back!

Last minute getaway ! Part of our hotel stay at The Cotswold Hotel & Spa included food at The Old Boathouse. It was a lovely meal. We enjoyed our Hanger Steak. We were very well looked after by Sam and Suf. Sam is a credit to The Old Boathouse. His hospitality service skills are great and we were well looked after.

The restaurant was very clean and nicely decorated. Booked last minute but staff were extremely accommodating. Waiting staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Both Donna and Suf made our visit. We ordered 2 sirloin steaks and both were cooked and presented perfectly. Both my wife and I thought they were delicious. A fantastic meal!

The staff was not friendly. The service was horrible. The desert menu wasn’t been offered. We’ve had the worst roast ever. Disappointed. I wouldn’t NOT recommend this place to nobody.

This restaurant is highly recommended. The food is delicious and the portion sizes are just right. Our waitress, Donna, was so friendly and professional. There was nothing to fault.

The boathouse is well appointed and the decor is tasteful and comfortable. Despite it being a freezing winter night it was warm inside. The menu had some ambitious starters tho the mains were pretty standard offers. The food was cooked well but lacking a wow factor. None of the desserts were tempting. One shared starter, 2 gins. A bottle of wine and 2 mains came to about £110. The stand out thing for us which made the evening memorable was the staff. From the greeter at the door to the wait staff they were all incredibly welcoming, cheerful and helpful. A young team who obviously enjoyed coming to work. The stand out was a young man whose lanyard explained he had autism so to be patient - but we didn’t need to be as he was excellent at his job. Well done to whoever is on hiring duty at the Boathouse - you’ve put together a great front of house team. A little more ambition in the menu and you’ll become an all round winner.

A regular eatery for us as has a wonderful ambiance and back drop, great menu and accommodate wheat allergies. Had a superb waitress ‘Donna’ today who we feel deserves a special kudos. All the team / staff were excellent too. Highly recommend.

Had a great Sunday roast beef, thoroughly enjoyed it and tasted homemade. We went for dinner the night before and I had veggie wellington which was honestly the best veggie meal I’ve had (as a non-veggie). Lovely atmosphere and the staff are wonderful.

On first appearance we were pleased with our welcome and service but that all changed once we placed our order. Very poor care throughout the meal, having to wave ( which is something I hate doing) but there was no sign of anyone on the restaurant floor. The family on the table next to us brought out all their meals bar one. 20 minutes later were told there were no burgers left. And still they had to wait for a substitute meal. Absolutely shocking service. £32 for a bottle of Pino. This is NOT a 4* hotel. Save your money and go elsewhere. We will not be returning.

Wonderful staff,lovely surroundings and excellent food. We were due to eat in The Brasserie but it was closed and this was the alternative. The Old BoatHouse is an excellent alternative. Hayley and Josie made us feel so welcome. Highly recommend.
