My wife and I have visited the Old Post Office quite a few times now. It’s our favourite place of all time, rather bold statement! But the friendly atmosphere and greeting from husband and wife team is a delight. Everything is homemade. You feel like a child in a candy shop! The selection of sandwiches, panini’s, soups and cakes are a mouthwatering treat. The beef, relish and Stilton panini, with salad and crisps is month watering. All this is set in the most homely and interesting decor surroundings. No one will ever be disappointed. Old Beetham Post Office, gets our ‘stamp’ of approval…and licks all competition…give it a try. Called in after seeing the good reviews and we weren't disappointed. A little shop was on the ground floor and stairs led up to an olde worlde tearoom. We just had tea/coffee and lemon and blueberry scones which were delicious and beautifully presented. The lady who served us was very pleasant. Managed to park right outside but it was a bit tight even in our smallish car. On the way to Milnthorpe we passed a layby where we would probably park next time (this would just be a flat 10 minute walk back to the tearoom). We would also have a look around Beetham. Really enjoyed our visit and the owners have made this a little gem.

The Old Post Office, situated opposite the ancient church in Beetham, is a charming place with a little shop as you enter and a lovely little tearoom upstairs. The tearoom is nicely decorated and full of old style charm with painted stone walls, exposed ceiling beams and a warming fire. From the good menu we simply had tea and coffee and shared an excellent lemon and blueberry scone. It was all rather lovely, as was the service, and we highly recommend it.

Such a lovely cafe and so lucky to have this in walking distance of home, it is the ideal place to take family and friends for coffee and cake or for some lunch. They always enjoy it just as much as we do. I have visited on several occasions for either lunch, or coffee and cake, and everything is always spot on, lovely friendly owners and the cakes are all homemade and so tasty with a great selection. The biscuit that comes with your coffee is also fab! Highly recommend

What a find after a pleasant walk through Dallam Park. Hard to find cafes of this quality and uniqueness. Stopped off for a refreshing cup of tea all served in china cups with ample refills from the pot. Homemade cakes to die for, so much choice served with a small pot of cream and fresh strawberries and blueberries. This is a cafe with old English atmosphere and calmness. You will not be disappointed on your visit, such a nice change from all the commercialised cafes of today.

Last time we were here it was for a tasty takeaway soup to warm a chilly day's work in the church opposite. This time was more leisurely, with a delicious and prettily presented pea/mint soup and houmous/beetroot sandwich combination. The vegan options were produced with no fuss and much charm. We were rather full after all that but it was all so relaxing that we followed it with one of those cakes that you know you ought to cut in half to save for later but somehow you just keep eating until it's gone. Returning soon. Thank you for the warm welcome and delightful food.

great little cafe, tucked away in Beetham. Although it wouldn't have the same cosy feel, its a shame they couldn't get a bigger place as the area is craving something like this where you can take all your family instead of just a few in at a time. But if you can get in, enjoy and if you can't its worth waiting around for!

Yes I do eat out a lot especially cafés. I only give honest reviews sometimes too honest . Called in on the off chance the weather would stay clement . It's a café we have visited before with excellent food. Now offering takeaway. As usual we must support them. This time roast beef sandwich and turkey and cranberry sandwich. Presented in takeaway box . Good fresh bread , very fresh salad with cous cous. Followed by( I know I shouldn't have ) delicious fruit strudel . Coffee and tea were very good. Luckily it stayed fine so we had a very pleasant lunch in the church yard watching the swallows . Highly recommended this café 😁

This is my absolute favourite place. I have to say I’ve been turned away more times than I’ve got in but that just makes me want it more! It’s very small but charming, warm & cosy. Of course I should ring ahead to book but my phone never has a signal so I just turn up. They do a particular raspberry cake whose name I can’t remember but it is gorgeous, moist & flavoursome but not too sweet. Even my husband was impressed & cute little cafes are his cup of tea really cos he’s a big guy.I sincerely hope they can ride out the current awful situation & look forward to tip toeing up your stairs to see if you’ve got a small table just for me.

Visited for my fiancees birthday. As she loves an afternoon tea i had searched Trip Advisor for somewhere on the way to Keswick from Southport and saw the ratings this place had got.... They werent wrong!!!!We loved the tearoom, the guys running it and of course the spread that we got served on the china plates and stands (£14.95pp).Fine array of sandwiches, extra fresh and fillings that were just the best... accompanied with a savoury tartlette that was just beautiful too. It is often a thing with me being a man that there isnt enough savoury and too much cake, so this was a great change for me.... not that there was any scrimpping on the sweet side you understand!!!For we had a scone each, with lashings of clotted cream and jam (some places you would have to be sparing as sharing between two, but not here!), there was then the smaller tasters which were home made victoria sponge(especially loved this), a banoffee inspired cake, macaron, brownie and coconut macaroon type cake.Good choice of teas, coffees, ect as your chosen hot drink and offers to top up when they could see the greedy pair may need some more lubrication! We were packed off with the little bit we had left in doggy bags and we left completely satisfied, with my fiance feeling like she had been completely spoilt on her birthday...Top stuff guys, well done! Will be back when next up that way for sure.

... Well actually our order was "2 lattes, a slice of carrot cake, a slice of warm, fresh raspberry and coconut tray bake and a huge doggy water bowl"! What a delightful find this little place is. After a relatively short trek from Silver Ridge Caravan Park through muddy fields and boggy woods, accompanied by our 3 dogs, we were looking forward to our first visit to The Old Beetham Post Office as it had been highly recommended to us by our neighbours. Our dogs enjoyed the trek a little too much and ended up rather muddy pawed and one of them was emitting quite an odour having rolled in 'something' en route ! We knew The Old Post Office was dog friendly but there was no way we would inflict our 'eau de sheep poo' dogs on other diners so we decided that we would ask if they did 'takeaway coffees'. On arrival we were delighted to see a picture perfect table for two outside the quaint little frontage. Perfect ! We were served by the most friendly and pleasant man who turned out to be the owner. Our lattes were hot and our cakes were 'truly scrumptious' - the huge doggy water bowl was gratefully received by our 3 fur babies. The tasteful crockery and cutlery complimented the food perfectly. Now that we have discovered this little gem of a place we will most definitely be back to sample their hot lunchtime food.

Looks the part in the rest of this lovely old village (hamlet). down a narrow street opposite the church. Unfortunately, the little tea room was closed, but looks like it very popular at weekends. Will have to return when it is open.Long live the village post office!

A lovely quaint little tea room in the village, serving some tasty cakes, sandwiches, drinks etc. The menu also lists meals, but we didn't see anyone sampling these at lunchtime. Seems popular with walkers and cyclists, a good spot to rest weary legs, and refuel for the rest of the day.

We booked a table for 7 for our daughters 21st birthday tea with grand parents, it is one of her favourite places, but we to have tea there was just brill, the savouries were excellent and rather unique, cakes were gorgeous and with unlimited tea in great China its was a lovely memorable tea for all, launching her celebrations for the weekend ahead. The price was very reasonable and we just want to thank them very much it was beyond our expectations. Although if we shout about it too much they may move on and expand and that would be a tragedy for us! Thank you.

The most wonderful beef sandwiches , and cakes to die for, served in the lovely tiny tea room. If you are looking after your waistline it is not the place to go.

We have called in at The Old Post Office several times whilst out on the motorbike or passing in the car. The service and food is always spot on. The owners are the most friendly and accommodating hosts that you would wish to meet. I genuinely cannot fault the place.

My husband and I were out for a long walk this Sunday afternoon. Half way round we stopped off for tea and cake. I had the fruit straddle and my husband the famous tea bread. They were both excellent and complimented by the copious amount of hot tea. A welcome treat on a rainy afternoon a long way from home. It was very busy and as its so cosy we were lucky to get a seat.

Called in for lunch. Our food was very good, we had a sandwich followed by mixed berry strudel. It's a lovely place to meet for 'ladies who lunch' and I would definitely recommend .

This is a lovely little gem of a place, I almost don't want to tell people about the old post office, but it is a fantastic place so need to share with everyone. The food is lovely always fresh, tasty and served with a smile. The room is quaint and cosy and full of lovely things to buy. I would highly recommend the old post office, well worth a visit

Strenuous efforts to save the post office failed, so the then owner had to diversify to survive by bravely opening a tea shop in the disused workshop over the grocery store. The present owners, Huw and Lorraine have developed the space into a welcoming and comfortable place to have afternoon tea or light lunches. Owing to tight space, The menu has to be limited, but what there is is good especially the wide variety of excellent cake. One unusual feature of the tea room, set in this delightful village, is its magnificent view of the late medieval church across the road, from the full height original loading door

Visited this quaint little tea room for the first time since moving to the area 6 years ago. A hidden gem by all accounts. The soup and sandwich was first rate and very filling. The tea room had a lovely ambience and was very welcoming. Local artwork and crafts surround you as you lunch which adds to the atmosphere. A really lovely interjection on our walk.

Been several times and agree with previous comments, but it is closed a couple of days a week - Tues and Wed I think, so check before you go out of your way. Also was used as a pop up cafe on Tuesdays for the local WI earlier in the year. Cakes were brilliant but other food and service not up to the regular cafe standards. A nice gesture to WI, but could confuse customers who were expecting to find the place in these reviews. If it is closed the second best place is a short walk across the main road to Beetham Nurseries Garden Cafe.

Luckily we had booked a table as this tiny venue was so popular and busy. I'd heard reviews and recommendations from friends and we were not dissappointed. Cosy and friendly, pleasant service with value for money food and beverages. Just love the quaintness of the old building too and the 'obviously regular customers' chit-chat.Well worth a visit, but please leave room for us-we will be back for more.

We visit this area each year but last time we visited the lovely village of Beetham the tea room was closed. Today we went for a snack and the soup and bread was absolutely delicious. Hot and tasty which can be a rare treat these days. Sandwiches and cakes at other tables looked equally tempting. Will return before end of holiday break.

Whilst trying to amuse my two young son's on a recent visit to Cumbria I took them to the vintage farm. And while that itself is great the real highlight was The Chicken Shed cafe on the site. The food is lovely with the homemade cakes being among the best I have ever tasted. The lady who runs the place is a great host and when my 9 year old cheekily asked for a beer she passed him a bottle of child friendly shandy that made his day. There's also a wide variety of homemade ice cream available which was music to the ears of my 6 year old (and me). Even if you don't fancy visiting the farm itself the food and hospitality at The Chicken Shed is worth seeking out.

Wow! What a fabulous experience from start to finish! We visited for my friend’s 40th and everything was perfect! Location, service and food- just beautiful! I have coeliac disease and they were so attentive and careful and went out of their way to ensure I didn’t miss out on anything. I even had different kinds of bread- believe me, this is wildly unusual for anything GF and I felt so special! All of the food was divine. I ate the lot, but totally regretted the sugar rush later on when I had a two hour drive home :-) Everything was perfect - the best afternoon tea I’ve ever had!

We were looking for somewhere to stop for a bite to eat on our way up to the Lakes. We came across the River Bela cafe and certainly weren't disappointed! A lovely little place with friendly hosts and delicious food. All this and dog friendly too, which is a must for us. We had the lovely home baked, hand carved ham sandwiches. On the way back home 2 days later we couldn't resist calling in again, this time for a lovely cooked breakfast - scrumptious! We will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family.

So I’m not normal one to leave a review, that being said overall I was hugely disappointed with the meal I had at the Knipe Grill at Gilpin Lake House. Firstly - we were show to our table and and iPad dropped on the table. Yes this is a menu and yes I can work and iPad. But with the hotel boasts 5 stars I expect a little more interaction. -With an experienced chef David with many an accolade, unfortunately I was underwhelmed. You quote “My food is fun, there’s always a bit of a story behind it, a bit of nostalgia and playfulness” Sadly there was no story no fun. This was primarily down the the service and the lack of engagement, talking us through the menu, championing and highlighting locality, seasonally and recommendations. The level of service we received for the price paid just wasn’t up to standard. - and finally whilst I know this is a hotel with a hot tub, there is something about having a group of people in bath robes walking through the restaurant heading to the hot tub a little strange. I wouldn’t expect this from a restaurant in a 3 star Spanish hotel, let alone a 5 star very expensive hotel/restaurant in the lakes In summary the restaurant's inexperience staff led to poor service, which significantly impacted the dining experience. The lack of knowledge and attentiveness resulted in frustration and dissatisfaction. While the food showed potential, it ultimately fell short of the expected standard considering the price paid. Overall, the combination of what seemed like inexperienced staff and underwhelming food quality makes this restaurant a less than satisfying choice. Sorry for this review but unfortunately this is a true reflection of my/out experience.
