The Octagon in East Devon

Fantastic breakfast with our family of 6, great service and lovely food. The view is fantastic. We’re locals and will be back. Don’t listed to the doubters, it’s wonderful that the owners had a bit of ambition for this place and they’ve done a lovely job.

We visited the octagon for the 1st time excited to try out this new restaurant. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to our expectations. Although the staff were friendly, the service was slow and not the best. The food was average and because of this non of us finished. It might just be a one off but I honestly don’t think we will be giving a go again, especially with so many better options available now

Stopped off to buy ice cream today, £3 for one very small scoop, I had to ask if there had been a mistake, very disappointed and won’t be back.

What a great addition to the town! We enjoyed a superb breakfast here. The quality of the food was excellent and everything was prepared perfectly. The service was really great; friendly, efficient and helpful. The venue is fantastic and everything from the decor, choice of furniture and tableware shows great thought and taste. My only concern is that this place will be so popular that getting a future reservation could prove difficult. Nevertheless, congratulations on a superb experience and I am going to look forward to a lunch there as soon as possible.

We had an absolutely lovely breakfast! Service was lovely and very friendly although slightly slow with only a few of us in there. Really enjoyed and a good price for how lovely it was. Positive feedback would be I think a baby change in the toilet would be really helpful for families with little ones - there’s plenty of room for a fold down one in the toilet so just incase the team hadn’t thought of it yet! I understand there main custom perhaps don’t have babies so it’s understandable but would be handy! I would highly recommend :)

We visited for a special birthday lunch and we were blown away. Not only by the spectacular sea views, but by the food and the service as well. The mussels were certainly amongst the best I’ve ever had and everything else was amazing too. Pasta, pizzas, burgers, gluten free fish and chips. It was all outstanding. Also, the staff went above and beyond for us to make sure our special lunch was extra special. I recommend you visit this newly opened restaurant and experience it for yourself.

Me and my partner had an amazing meal at The Octagon. The food was delightful and was served to us very quickly (there was an excellent selection of dishes). The staff were all lovely and made a real effort to make sure we had a great meal. It was a lovely atmosphere and we can’t wait to bring other family members for celebrations in the future. It was the best meal at a restaurant I’ve had in a long time 😁.

Had a lovely evening with my son, fantastic friendly service, amazing atmosphere, wonderful views and the food was exceptional. My son is a small eater and never finishes a meal, however, he ate the whole meal and rated the chips 11/10!!! Overall he rated his evening 10/10 and I would agree!! Couldn't fault a thing!! Thank you to a great team for a lovely evening! We will be back!

A must go! Service was very good and accommodating! Excellent menu and great food. The food was presented beautifully, the only criticism I have towards the meal was I feel it wasn’t seasoned enough (steak), and the peppercorn sauce didn’t have much flavour. Oddly enough the one thing that really let the meal down was the mayonnaise (tasted like a cheap brand). Venue wise it offers a wonderful view, the only criticism I have towards the venue itself is that it was loud and it echo’s a lot. For the operational size and quality, prices are very much justified and fair! Great job 🤩

Food is exceptional, all freshly prepared on the premises and that means really prepped. Pizza dough, burger patties, desserts to name a few. Very impressed with the service too. The one restaurant I have been in that saw my drink was empty….. 10/10

Very nice seemed a little slow Staff seem to return to kitchen empty handed they past tables full of used dishes but jut walk back empty handed only tyo have to back an clear later I saw at least 20 times they could have cleared on returning to kitchen after serving This would half their daily walking as well as save vast amounts if time

It may have been only a couple of pasties and coffee but it was perfect. Great, polite takeaway service and shall certainly return to the restaurant and recommend to others. Thank you .

Had a fab meal with my wife last night in the newly refurbished Octagon. Lovely view of the sun going down, food was top notch and nicely presented. Service was fast and friendly and there was a real sense of a business that cared about the customer experience. We’ve booked again!

What a gem of a place! Had breakfast here this morning, great to see a new restaurant busy (recommend to book to avoid disappointment). The food was delicious, staff were lovely, and all accompanied by absolutely stunning views of the beach! We will definitely be back!

Wow! What an incredible open evening the octagon had! Firstly the waiter that greeted us was incredible, he bent over backwards to accommodate two extra guests, he was lovely, funny and so very welcoming. A great start to a great evening . The food was incredible, the chips must be sprinkled with some form of magic because they tasted so good! Three people at my party had the veggie burger (non of which are vegetarian) but they all said it was incredible and the best they had had before! The tex mex burger was also beautiful! A slight error with the bill which was quickly rectified with a smile ! It was a fab evening, we all will certainly be going back! Well done to the team!

We were lucky enough to visit on their opening night, and what a fantastic job the team have done renovating this restaurant! The atmosphere was lovely, the staff were extremely friendly and the food was exceptional! I highly recommend the bruschetta starter, which was delightful, and the Chipotle mayo with the pork scratchings table sharer was amazing! We will 100% be recommending and returning!

Just the best salted caramel ice-cream 😋 Friendly, helpful service. Lots of other ice-cream flavours, coffee, doughnuts, and other food and drinks available. Recommended.

Saved the best for the last night of our holiday. Yes I had to wait 10 minutes for these donuts but they were SO NICE. Good ice cream too.

Stopped off for a drink on a morning walk along the beach. Lovely views from the seating area. Cannot comment on the food but the main reason for my review is that the service was very good. Staff friendly, polite and helpful. Thank you

The ice cream flavors are very unusual and also taste very good. But the other food like the hot dogs and burgers could be a little better. Besides, I would have to wait a very long time. But otherwise everything is OK.

The staff are super cool and friendly and the donuts, slushies, chocolate ice-cream and cookie dough ice-cream are all delicious. The young man who served me my slushie made it look super cool (see picture).

Perhaps a bit expensive, but the food was of very high quality and the service was great. And such a good location!

20 minutes to wait for doughnuts, no warning of a wait at all when we ordered. Absolutely horrific and would never come here again.

We ordered two large cones with soft ice cream, price £11.53. Disappointed that the ice cream was tasteless, like shaved ice. Expensive for what it was.

The best home made donuts I have ever had.

I stop here after walking dogs on the beach. The Hot Chocolate is delicious and it comes with a cafe biscuit! Tables outside and a bench to sit and watch the world go by. They also sell doggy Icecream which I buy as a rare treat for my mutts. Lovely staff

visited today , bought two Mr Whippy's each with a flake, they were smashing, but I had to pay £7.08 (?) for them , is it me or is that par for the course, I've got to get a badge that says ' I'm not a tourist, I live here ' and wear it next time.

Good ice cream, good prices, friendly staff. Fast service. Convenient location on the walk down from the train station. If I ever visit Exmouth again I'm trying the other flavours and menu items, too

We visited on a busy Saturday afternoon. They have plenty of staff and a really good choice of snacks and drinks. We had two ice creams, a cup of tea and a coffee. The ice creams are delicious and lots of flavours to choose from. Pretty standard prices for the seafront but not the cheapest. They take card payment and there is some seating at the back

The burgers are far beyond what I was expecting. Nice brioche buns, fresh salad and pickles. Excellent quality, would definitely recommend.

Paid £4.95 for a hot dog with onions, waited 15 minutes and was disappointed to receive a tasty sausage in a roll which had merely been covered in cold dried and tasteless onion "bits". I had expected fresh fried onions at that price and will not order again from here as a result. I believe the establishment has changed hands recently and this appears to have had an adverse impact on quality and price. Shame.

Had an amazing burger and naked fries with great fresh coffee as well all for under a tenner. Highly recommend service was great Josh served us and was really cheerful and helpful i think he deserves a raise 😀

The Ice Cream is the cheapest on the seafront; and tastes good too! Highly recommend if your on holiday.

This is an interesting spot and the Octagon itself is a typical seaside kiosk with drinks, snacks and ice cream.

Lovely clean confectioners with pleasant friendly staff. Central to Exmouth sea front. Adjoining lovely sandy beach. Well worth a visit

Classic treasure... Best ice-cream in Exmouth

Nice choice of ice cream and other snacks but I was shocked to see at the end of the working instead of carrying in the three metal A frame advertising signs that were standing outside collecting sand and grit and let's face it dog wee on them, they passed them through the serving hatch directly over the ice cream and cones. Obviously there is a door so this was completely unnecessary risk of getting dirt and other waste fragments dropped on the ice cream. Hopefully the owners will read this review and put a stop to this bad practice. Other than that we enjoyed our visit.

I had some ice-cream there. They had many flavours and different cones. Really good.
