Hunters Lodge Inn in East Devon

Always come here with my partner, it’s our favourite place to eat out. Typically come for an anniversary meal, it’s always top service, has the friendliest staff, always super attentive. Top quality food and portions, never had to wait too long, which would be expected considering how busy it is always is! Always a top experience, would always recommend this place to people :)

First visit, very impressive. Staff lovely. Great breakfast. Looking forward to going back for a evening meal.

Great spot!! Food delicious!! Love the dessert display. (Haven’t had spotted dick & custard in years)!! While away for a week chose to come twice. Service was good & prices very reasonable, only slight thing, we’re not local and asking questions re food times, booking tables etc… response was given as if we should have known. That didn’t put us off though as the food was spot on. Thank you for a great time.

Disproportionate bar size with a flat welcome and then only to be told we could have a drink outside in PLASTIC CUPS (I was 5 fifty years ago). New to the area and won’t be back ☹️

Booked for lunch on mother's day, and really enjoyed our visit. Food was very good, as was the service. The roast dinners were great. Will definitely recommend and return.

Says dog friendly (totally disagree) they saud we could sit outside with our 2 whippets who are no bother, we choose a table on grass furthest away from people so as not to disturb. They came two times to deliver food and then said you cant stay on grass with dogs! We had to move all drinks and food off grass which then meant food was cold. Very unhappy customer after spending my money there. Obviously children are more welcome!

Great place to stop off with the kids. Classic pub food, friendly staff and outdoor play area for the children. Play area could probably do with an update, and baby changing is only in the ladies but otherwise good.

Stopped here for food last Tuesday night, due to an unexpected power cut at our holiday accommodation. We hadn't booked but were welcomed and given a table without any issue. We were so glad we did stop, as the service was great, all the staff were friendly, welcoming, and efficient and the food was delicious. I had the Pork Chop which was cooked perfectly with chunky chips that were some of the best I have had. My daughter had a burger which she loved but couldn't finish it as it was such good quality but a lot of burger meat and it filled her up so she was very happy. My wife had the fish pie which she loved. I rounded my meal off with Treacle tart and custard which again was so good, and plenty of custard. When we are back in Lyme Regis we will certainly be back as we really enjoyed our meal and evening at The Hunters Lodge. Thanks to all the lovely staff who made the night so enjoyable.

It’s one of those places you drive past and think about going in. I’m so glad we did. The food was really good, we both had the burrito which was a special. It was tasty and quite big. Staff were friendly. Car park is nice and big and it’s a great location for long journeys.

Good breakfast, good service, reasonable price. Very happy that it was open early and close to where we stayed. Would eat there again.

We only eat there was put a side room as we hadn't booked which was ok asked if we could drink in the lounge after as looked more comfortable was told fully booked no where to sit so we left,as we was hoping to make an evening of holiday what a shame

The food was appalling. I ordered a tikka masala curry and it was completely tasteless and nothing like a tikka curry. I barely eat any of it. This pub used to have a great reputation for food what a shame it's serving very poor quality. Weatherspoons food is vastly superior and that comes from Iceland.

I struggled getting in the door while pushing a wheelchair 3 members of staff watched me and didn't offer to help , food was fairly quick but waiting service may need work !? The bar was nice , just not my cup of tea

Icy path. Had to help 2 older ladies. When we arrived,shocking the staff allowed them to walk there with no help or salt or grit. Told 4 mins to order as kitchen was closing. We did this. With a bottle of wine. Then we were told they close at 3pm. Felt rushed. Which got worse when staff got the hover out. Happy to take our money but not to let us finish our wine with out rushing. Food was OK. Sadly let down by the staffs attitude to rush us and get us out. Ruined our anniversary lunch. Won't go back and i wouldn't recommend this pub. Lots of others locally. Avoid this one. Bad service, And to be clear. 3pm was not mentioned when we ordered. And when I said what time do we have to leave. I asked 15mins. She looked at the clock and said we close at 3pm. Clock showed 1 min to 3. So if that's not rushing us out. And he needs to rewatch his cctv.i almost left with out paying due to having to rush. So staff are not being truthful or you clearly haven't watched cctv. As this will be very clear, and to try and say I'm making this up to get free food or drink. I'm shocked. And does your cctv show me helping the old lady due to your unsafe icy path. His shocking threatening reply. We have plenty of people who try to scam/bribe us for free food and drink. The full story of this is you turned up 5 minutes before our kitchen closed, you were informed of our kitchen and pub closing time before you ordered and was ok with the timings on offer, you made no complaint at the time but later decide to send an email of complaint which we promptly investigated and replied. Our kitchen closes at 1430 and our pub closes at 1500, but we do not rush people out, you were told by our team that there was no rush. People will see this for what it actually is extortion pure and simple and we simply will not tolerate it. Be careful where else you publicise this as we would most certainly take action against you or anyone else who tries to damage our reputation or business. We provide excellent service and food we open 7 days a week from 0830 for breakfast close at 3pm so our team can have a meaningful break then reopen at 5.30pm. We are one of the only establishments to do this in the off season months, even though it would be more cost effective to close, because we offer stability and security with our opening hours. Our opening times are published everywhere including on the premises as well as online. You cite an icy path as an issue but you can only get to that path once you have navigated and icy carpark and icy roads, you cannot hold us responsible for the weather, that sir is an act of god not an act of the Hunters Lodge. You have now had your 30 seconds of fame by defaming a local business who work extremely hard to provide a good all round service as can be seen from our other reviews. Excellent food, friendly staff. Roast dinner was excellent.

We help to run a Welcome Cafe in Lyme Regis and for the second Christmas we took our guests to Hunters Lodge for a Christmas lunch. With our thanks to Paige and the staff for giving us a great time. The meal was excellent and service first class. Beautifully decorated too. Would highly recommend for special occasion parties. Thank you all for making the occasion so special for everyone and wishing you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Great stop off on way to sidmouth We always stop here when travelling to South Devon for a break and a drink. Today December 3rd we stopped for a drink and bite to eat. They have a great baguettes menu, an extensive a la carte menu, and an amazing specials menu. You won't go wrong stopping here for exceptional service and food

Asked if we could stay the night in our motorhome, the answer was only if you buy a meal. We were willing to buy drinks but didn't need food so we're told to leave. When it comes to facilities they offer nothing, no water, no showers, no electricity and nowhere to empty a toilet. We spent last night at another pub who were happy for us to buy drinks which we did. It's hardly surprising pubs close with the attitude the Hunters Lodge show.

I never call a place a pub when confronted with a "please wait to be seated" sign when I walk in. But is a nice enough place to eat, all the classics plus a few specials. Pleasant friendly staff.

We visited the hunter's lodge yesterday for lunch with two of our daughters and a granddaughter. The food was really lovely taste and hot. The service was really excellent. My husband and I are going there a gain tomorrow for Sunday lunch.

Stopped en route between Dorset & Devon. Friendly welcome, great service and good food. Plenty of parking too. On the main road so no detours necessary.

Good solid pub grub. Excellent service. Fast and efficient for a fly by lunch. Large car park on the A35 with plenty of space to park massive motorhome. Dog friendly area in the pub. Outside play park for kids to stretch their legs as well. Had the Hunters chicken (needed a slightly better barbecue sauce, to be honest, this one was a bit too tomatoey), and I oredered the Sole, which was beautifully cooked. Desserts looked great, but we didn't have time. Prices are on the high side but worth it. Highly recommended.

Had lunch here and what a disappointment, weatherspoons would have delivered a better plate of food. For nearly £40 for 2 people 10 chips underdone per plate, very VERY average and full of incredibly rude locals. Held the door open for a couple only to be ignored. When we walked in everyone spent a good 2 minutes just staring. Avoid if you can. Staff were very nice only saving grace.

Really great pub and restaurant, with excellent menu. Made to feel really welcome. Food was great, especially the burgers. Free car parking which is handy and very close to Lyme Regis.

Called in for lunch whilst on holiday, well situated about 15 minutes from Lyme Regis, on major road. Very warm welcome, friendly staff. Good choice on menu , including specials board. Nice choice of local beers. Amazing deserts! Very reasonably priced. Nice beer garden outside. Dogs welcome too.

My granddaughter and I arrived at around d 9.30 for breakfast. Waited a couple of minutes to be seated. Greated by a pleasant gentleman who took our order . We had a very nice vegetarian breakfast . Great for kids as there is an excellent play area at the back of the pub. Plenty of parking available. Happy days.

Don't understand why they let dogs in the bar area where it is carpeted and allow them on the seating the place is big enough to have a dog free zone,the food and service is very good just don't like eating where dogs shake and as I said sit on the furniture

My wife and I stopped here (having checked reviews before setting off) on our way from Cornwall to Portsmouth. We hadn’t booked as we weren’t sure how busy the roads would be and what time we might have been passing - so we arrived without a reservation. It was not a problem, as although it was busy (we arrived around 1pm) we managed to be allocated a table. The welcome we had from all staff was really friendly and we ordered fairly quickly. The food arrived in a timely manner; I had gammon, egg and chips, my wife had the grilled chicken breast. Both meals were piping hot, clearly freshly cooked and very tasty. I finished with pineapple upside down cake and cream which was light and fluffy (all the desserts in the display cabinet looked enticing. All In all a welcoming and great lunch stop, we will call here again when next passing. Thank you

Stopped by for a spot of lunch and was so happy we did!!! The staff are brilliant and were really good with my kids! Efficient service with a lovely smile. Food was brilliant- good honest food and very tasty! Three kids were happy - that’s great! Food was hot, tasty and well portioned. Please go here - if it were closer to home, we would be going a lot more!

We had lunch there on the way back home from Charmouth we had agarden burger desserts looked very good we didn't have room for one the staff were very pleasant and helpful we enjoyed it very much definitely go there again

We arrived at pub it appeared busy. We asked if there was a table for three. The waitress enquired with the manager. We are just cleaning one for you know. They gave us the menu while we waited. The children menu had a reasonable good choice my daughter had chicken bites chips and peas and a coke. We had otter ale. I had Hunters chicken and white chocolate cheesecake to follow. It was very nice and own made. My husband had chilli con carne off the specials board. It was mild and nice.

What can I say. When you go out to eat and hope for a good meal, this place is the place to go to. Food was perfectly cooked, staff very friendly and pub was very clean and tidy. Highly recommend a visit here. We are going back for breakfast.

We have visited here twice for breakfast in the last week following recommendations from family and both times we’ve been so impressed with the delicious food, friendly welcome and excellent service. We were served by Ollie today who was so polite and a lady (I’m so sorry I can’t remember her name) who was also lovely when we visited at the weekend. The setting is beautiful with gorgeous decor and everything is clean, tidy and immaculate. The coffee is the best I’ve ever tasted without a doubt and the scrambled eggs are something else! ⭐️ We have a caravan in Lyme Regis and we will be visiting here every time we’re in the area on holiday from now on. Such a superb find. I’d eat here every day if I could!

The food here was half good half OK the reason I say this is we ordered one small Sunday roast for my son and too regular, when it arrived my sons looked quite good my wife's was excellent with plenty of mean while mine was a tiny bit more than small, I had one and half slices of meat, I asked for both beef and turkey, I had one full slice of beef same as my sons small and a half or less slice of turkey, I did mention it too the staff who said "OK I will inform the chef" my wife gave me a slice of her beef and so enjoyed the meal, if I had to pick at it, the gravy was a bit thin and watery but all in all we ate everything and enjoyed the meal, when I went to pay I was charged full price which I paid but put me off going back as I left feeling a bit ripped off. I guess if I had caused more of a scene they might have changed me for two small but like lots of people aren't the type to kick off about stuff, I just won't go again and advise my friends to give it a miss. There are plenty places to spend your hard earned money.

We are staying locally in Membury and searched for local places to eat. The menu and location caught our eye. We called first thing in the morning to book a Sunday lunch that day. We were glad we booked as there was a constant stream of people in and out. We were not disappointed! The Sunday roast was amazing. (The gravy was lush too!) One of our party chose the crispy chicken strips and she said it was delicious too. We all opted for deserts. Again, fantastic. The Hunters Lodge Inn was easy to get to and had plenty of parking. There is inside and outside dining with a good amount of space for kids to run around in the garden area. We were so impressed we have booked again for an evening meal on out last day here in Membury. ☺️Highly recommend.

On holiday in local area. Wanted a meal out on our first day. You never know what you're going to get with a pub but we struck gold with this one. Had the Sunday roast and it was excellent. Really tasty and good value. Puddings were equally yummy. Staff friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking. Going back for our last night meal.

Clearly needed more staff working, as by 6pm they all looked tired and too busy. Waited at the bar for 12 minutes to order food, as only one member of staff was taking order, all very chaotic! However food came out very quickly after ordering and tasted fabulous! The boss just needs to get more staff to support the others he has!

Sunday roast was good, service average. After what looked like a shift change, we got somewhat forgotten about and tables who arrived after us started to get served before.

Got there at 8:25 asked if still serving food to be told you have 4min to get it in.. Ran back to the car and rang back by 8:28 after everyone decided what they wanted. Got asked how many for..explained four. Guy said let me check with kitchen to be followed by. Kitchen all cleaned now. Not serving

We came here for dinner as a family. It was brilliant. Good service, good food and a great price. Definitely worth a visit. The pub itself is also kitted out really well. A lot of pubs tend to be almost rundown but not a complaint for this place. Worth a visit for a drink. We didn’t stay so I can’t comment on the rooms.

Stopped off for a bite to eat on our way home from a little holiday. Wow. Myself and the hubby had hunters chicken and chips and was lovely. We couldn't help but eye up the pudding menu. Warm chocolate fudge cake for me and chocolate biscuit cheesecake for him. Definitely didn't need it, but couldn't resist. Was beautiful and currently feeling very full and in need of a lie down.
