The Oak in City of London, Westminster

Organised a private party in the upstairs room which is a lovely dining space. Unfortunately the experience just wasn't great given the amount we paid. The music was very loud (club music) despite asking them to turn it down as no-one could hear each other talk. It wasn't clear that the bar space outside wasn't private otherwise we wouldn't have booked it. No-one was coming to the table to offer drinks or wine. For £50 minimum a head I wouldn't recommend this to anyone again despite having hosted my own birthday there a year ago. I can't fault the food.

Nice place to eat Italian food. Felt like a pub. A bit dark and cramped but a great place. The thin crust pizzas were delicious.

Had a great Sunday lunch for 3. The food was all really well cooked and delicious. The service fantastic, no idea what the few negative reviews experienced, It was fast, efficient and very friendly. Nice vibe and look to the place as well. Overall great value, you didn’t feel you were being fleeced, which often is the case. We will definitely visit again.

A little quiet, but a lovely restaurant with good Pizzas. Worth a visit if in the area, also has an upstairs bar, but this was quiet, so great if you want to go somewhere and talk.

This is a very reliable restaurant with super helpful service and great food. The pizza is delicious and the staff are very attentive. Great for teenagers.

Was very good but went downward. Pizzas not good anymore sadly. They seem to choose poor ingredients to cook. No taste. Few clients in the place. Its very sad because was the best pizzas in Notting Hill. Please do something and bring back yourtasty pizzas.

Food not good anymore. This place used to have the best pizzas in the neighbourhood but since a while their quality has gone downward. Had recently the worst meal there. It seems ingredients are of low quality and nothing taste good. Even a simple goat cheese and beetroot is not mastered. Such a pity. A typical sign: place was half empty. I hope this restaurant can go back to its usual self because it was nice in the past. Maybe another unfortunate effect of Brexit.

The waitress in the pink shirt definitely made our day, on top of the already excellent cuisine and an authentic Italian atmosphere. A must!

Looked beautiful but a table by the door meant delivery pizzas were passed over our heads to drivers non stop with raised verbal communication. Cocktails were awful, pizza ok and risotto delicious. Waitress apologised about a huge chip in a plate but did nothing about it Service was ok, nothing special. Don't mind paying for a wonderful experience but this was way overpriced for what we got.

Never accept the table by the door on the weekend. Delivery guys picking up pizzas was crazy and ruined any atmosphere plus fellow diner nearly had pizza resting on his shoulder while waitress and driver argued. Huge chip in plate which waitress did nothing about and awful cocktails. Food was OK and risotto amazing. Whole experience a let down. Better and cheaper places out there

Outstanding! Tonight's hostess saved my wife's birthday! After a horrible meal and service at The Bridge House, we sought out dessert here. They were friendly, courteous, and turned an otherwise awful birthday into a relaxed and enjoyable experience! Thank you!

One of Notting Hill evergreen. Great atmosphere on the first floor for drinks. Not only, very friendly stuff. I want also give my thanks to Kemal, I left there my fav sunglasses last week, and he managed to reassure me over the phone he found them and kept them safe till the day after. Thank you Kemal!

This place is worth going too, we were the first in after 6pm tonight and had wondered why it was so quiet - however the food was excellent the staff very friendly and it filled up quickly with a lovely atmosphere- thumbs up 👍

The food here is amazing but the service is really terrible… our waitress was rude and inefficient. On top of that they brought me an incredibly hot plate without telling me and I burnt my finger pretty badly

Nice place to eat and enjoy talking with friends

This place was dead and empty at 1pm on a beautiful Sunday in a busy neighborhood. The food was excellent. The location itself is lovely with an outside option. The service is comical. They all seemed half asleep. No management at all. Only three tables with 6 customers in a massive venue but all waiting staff stand with their backs to the tables. One waitress had a full on conversation with one of the chefs about her tattoos. He came out to have a look. This went on for some time whilst tables went uncleared and people waited on orders. There is no service at all. Just very surly waiting staff ignoring customers. The food is great as is the location. But this place is empty for a reason and that's the service.

Nice, intimate bar. Chesterfield sofas. Pleasant service, but you'll pay for it. A couple of drinks each and not much change from £40.

They couldn't accommodate a tree nut allergy, and got angry with us for trying. Stay away if you have any dietary issues

We've been coming here for 6 years and it has consistently been one of our favourite restaurants in London until tonight. We sat outside and it took 40 minutes for our drinks to come, despite it not being busy. When our appetizers came, they brought out small plates which were filthy and had clearly already been used. To top it all off, when our pizzas come there was a maggot on one of them. Super disappointing to see this place go downhill so quickly.

Beautiful meal, delicious food. I could not fault it. The pizza was thin, crispy, like in Rome, the atmosphere was beautiful, the spaghetti al dente, seafood fresh. The starter delectable, great sliced prosciutto, and mozzarella di bufala. Perfect with the bread. The most delicious olives too! Excellent price, for delicious food. Staff were lovely , the chef however really brought things up. The good superseded the service. I hope he gets my thanks. Excellent work. Will definitely visit again

Terrible service - I booked this place for my birthday meal and they squashed 10 of us around a table that could only fit 6. 3 guests were sat at the corners of the table, and there was no room for everyone to fit a plate in front of them, neither to move their arms without bumping into each other. Originally I had booked for 12 and we were shown an extra table.. but as soon as I said only 10 would be attending, they squashed us together so they could get another cover in. Clearly shows that being honest with your booking gets you nowhere! On top of that, the woman at the front of house had a very bad attitude - snatching plates and slamming down bill. We sat waiting to pay for ages then she came and said we need to hurry up.. claimed she had come around with the card machine but we weren’t ready, which was a complete lie. All in all, poor attitudes, mediocre food at best but charging premium prices. Go elsewhere if you want an enjoyable atmosphere and value for money.

Upstairs bar is amazing for a birthday party. Great drinks, music and pizzas. The staff is super friendly. Highly recommend :)

Nice restaurant in the Nothing Hill area. Starters were ok and the pizza too but it's neither Napoli style nor Roman. A bit pricey for what you get in my opinion. Staff was a bit pushy since the table had to be left by 9pm (which we were told).

Im a local but this place attracts the worst crowd. Have just spent the evening just being squashed, pushed and body slammed by fake aspirational notting hill dreamers, who think its cool to disregard the presence of other humans. No idea why the staff on the door for the bar upstairs let so many people in. This venue has no class. Admittedly they have lovely glassware but Guinness served from a can, and cocktails average🤦🏽‍♀️Will avoid for another 10 years 🙄

Such a shame, we visited with friends from Germany for dinner after 3 years and were very disappointed in the change in the standard of service and the quality of food. 3 years ago the food was amazing and the staff very friendly and efficient… yesterday the food was disappointing and the staff were disinterested, they just plonked the food down with no comment, drinks were just given to the wrong person, we had to ask 3 times for the bill, the staff were more interested In greeting friends than looking after customers who were already there… in the past a visit here was “a must”, we won’t be back in a hurry!!

Nice drinks especially the chilli drink (my memory fails me for the full name) my wife had it and I did contribute to the tasting and helping her out with her drink. It was lovely. The old fashioned was ok

When I first walked in, I thought it would be my new favourite place. The decor and set-up is unreal. The host was lovely and personable. However, the waitresses were terrible - rude and unhelpful. The food was mediocre.

Visited the place some weeks ago with my friends. Food was good, but customer service lacked. The guy assisting us, probably called “Kemal” (this name was on the bill) was rude and unwilling to explain simple things asked about the dishes. Unprofessional behaviour.

The oak is always the best atmosphere. We went as a group of 12 and the service was impeccable from the waitress Stephanie. The pizza was delicious too. We will def be back

Very unfriendly staff. The whole place is empty but they decided to give us a table by the door on my birthday! Very nasty staff. I wish Kamal the manager was here to solve the issue. In his absence the staff are completely useless.

The food has gone downhill so badly, very sad. Used to be great 10-15 years ago when I lived in London. Ordered the sliced steak and the meat was school cafeteria quality. My friend ordered a pizza and the crust was worse than Pizza Express. Such a shame cause staff are great

Our waitresses told us 6 times that they needed the table back by 9pm. We were made aware of this as soon as we arrived and then throughout our meal, although we were well aware. Real shame because we like that place so much and it just ruined our evening. When 9pm came, we were waiting for 15 minutes to pay for the bill because they were busy with other stuff.

It was our first time at this amazing reataurant ! My family and i were walking by and really wanted to try this place . they welcome us and got us a table even tho it was fully booked . The manger and the staff were so nice to my kids and my self !!! FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!! Best place we ever been in the area!!!!

What an amazing experience we had at the The Oak Restaurant in Notting Hill! From the food, to the vibe, to the staff it was our best night out in London. The decor and ambience made you feel like you never want to leave, warm and inviting, but at the same time lively, fun and full of great energy. Everyone was having the best time! The Linguini Pasta was one of the best I have ever, dare I say better then even Italy! The pizza was amazing, cooked in a wood burning pizza over, thin and delicious. The service was impeccable, everyone made sure we so well taken care of, especially the manager, Lucia. She was beyond wonderful! We cannot wait to come back many more times!

We were with a stroller and had booked and asked for space in advance. Instead of being considerate and accommodating towards us given that we had an infant the hostess was rude, very inhospitable and kept making us feel unwanted and continuously complained to us about our stroller. We were shocked and disgusted - never seen such terrible service in a supposedly good restaurant/ pub in London. Our night out was made terrible just by the awful service - food was overpriced and extremely sub standard as well. Such an awful experience overall!

So terribly disappointed! Service was really dismal. My husband and I booked a table in advance and asked for space for our stroller. When we reached the staff made us wait while tending first to other people who were collecting take out. The hostess was rude and grudgingly offered some spots for us. When we sat down she kept complaining to us about the space the pram was taking and how they needed more space - even though it was enough space for people to pass through. As for food the buratta was sour and the parma ham was dry and obviously cheap. My beef tagliata was dry and well done despite ordering medium rare. The waitress forgot my wine - did not apologise and then proceeded to keep our dirty cutlery from the appetiser course on the table - we had to ask for fresh cutlery and for them to clear our dirty cutlery. All in all it was a really stressful and AWFUL dinner experience. There are much better pubs/ restaurants in the neighbourhood so will not be returning.

What a lovely place - fun and relaxed with fabulous staff who made a real effort to ensure we had a great time … and got me a taxi in time to catch my train home.

Really good pizza. Everyone like what they got- the zucchini was good but the contadina was even better! The organic red wine was also very nice drinking. Recommended.

We used to love this place for the quality of the food and the service, however sadly neither are what they used to be. We should have realised something was wrong when it was the only place in Westbourne Park that wasn't wasn't full for Sunday lunch. We ordered the hummus and babaganoush as a starter and the portion was so tiny it was ridiculous. There was a mountain of bread which wasn't eaten as the dip portion was so small We then ordered the Orecchiette for main which was salty and oily for the bargain price of £20. The waitress has no idea what we wanted when we ordered a pint of lime and soda and it took 15 mins for the lime cordial to arrive. Overall, too expensive and poor quality. We won't be back!

This was once a buzzing place with predictably excellent food and a welcoming team. Today - the place was practically empty at lunchtime - probably because word is out that the food is not good and seriously overpriced for what it is : starters - tiny portions and not very appetising or well presented . mains : very oily . Service unwelcoming . Pity .

Such a shame as it used to be good. Awful service and we thought the food was average, but at the end 2 people from our group got food poisoning.

Horrible experience! Average food and terrible experience. My partner and I were kicked out because our baby started crying. Without finishing we weren’t allowed to get dessert even considering that it was 15.45 with an almost empty restaurant. They should be ashamed!

The room upstairs has a great vibe with wood paneling and nice furniture. The pizza and drinks were great, definitely recommended!

Returned to the Oak after more than 1 year, and I was extremely disappointed. What a pity, this used to be one of my fav casual Italian/pizza places. I guess they changed all staff, including the chef and the pizzaiolo. Not sure about the good reviews here, I am Italian, and I know what pizza and pasta should taste like.At The Oak nothing looks and tastes genuine now. The Pizzas are terrible, the dough is WRONG, the mozzarella is tasteless and feels like plastic, they use cheap ingredients and the pizza was dripping oil. Pasta was even worse, overcooked and tasteless. The chef has probably never set foot in Italy. The service was bad and slow and the staff was rude. We arrived at 8.30 they took our orders after 45 min (!!) and we had our pizzas and mains at 10.30, desserts at 1130. Overall almost 4 hours for mains and shared desserts. Embarrassing service. I like the place so I hope they can fix this, but I won't go back anytime soon.

its still only one of the best pizzas out there so if your whole party is having pizzas its worth 5 stars. been consistently good since i moved to notting hill in 2014. I went recently and everything else was a bit of a disaster. we ordered the charcuterie board as a starter... which was a bunch of thick chewy frozen pieces of charcuterie with frozen grapes on top (like solid frozen???) and tiny pieces of old pita bread. it used to be a beautiful board of freshly cut charcuterie with grilled sourdough bread. why not just take it off if the gap in quality is so significant? the other starters were disappointing too.. and my friends who ordered the pasta complained a lot about how overcooked the meat was (probably because it was reheated etc) anyway i was smalls embarrassed in front of the people i took. as i always talk it up. they should just take the other stuff off the menu if they re going to ruin the meal. Pizza still epic though...

Great pizza, very cozy and intimate

It's quite a challenge these days to find a very good pizza in London,The Oak is the perfect pizza in town similar to Soda Pizza but better flavour off toppings I'd say the dough has had a look of thought behind it, they got the dough right it's perfect .But you have to ask the chef for it well done with little less toppings so the base is firm throughout the pizza then the pizza is 100 percent perfect as the pizza is so good I always go back for years now thought I would do my first review on this place as they deserve it.

Amazing pizza and an incredible atmosphere. The waiters were nice and the food was incredible. I recommend starting off with the garlic bread with cheese and the veal pizza as a main.

Great wood-fired oven Italian-style pizza. Easy to get a reservation for. They have nice staff. The cheesy garlic bread is quite good.
