The Oak Room in North Devon

Lovely food at the Oak Room. We chose six plates between us and each one of them was a generous portion and very tasty. The service was very friendly without being intrusive. It’s mot cheap, but not massively expensive, but the quality of food made it good vfm.

Was staying locally and visited on a Tuesday evening. Very attentive staff without being pushy. Really good selection of Tapas and all extremely tasty.

How wonderful to find an authentic Tapas restaurant in the unlikely setting of Lynton. The service was superb and the food absolutely delicious; served piping hot and each little dish crafted beautifully. The baked lettuce hearts with blue cheese, nuts and honey is definitely something I shall be trying at home!

Excellent service, excellent meal It was my husband's 85 birthday and they gave us a complimentary glass of wine and a creme brulee either a candle in it . Lovely gesture.

I know tapas are supposed to be small servings of food which were nice enough, however , it's a bit cheeky to charge £7- £8 for each tapas. For example, the 'tomato salad' was one large tomato sliced with some dressing £8 ! Each dish was barely a few mouthfuls which don't go far when sharing so you'd need several dishes each, however it soon adds up ! And as another reviewer said, there just isn't much option for vegetarians either , so we both left feeling hungry having spent £40 on 4 small tapas servings and a coffee. We could have eaten 4 dishes each but that would have doubled the bill . An expensive lunch !

This is a tapas bar, very nicely decorated. Great choice of food even for vegetarians and all is made fresh and delivered rather quickly. Give in to the dessert as they are very yummy too.

We recently moved to the area and have been meaning to visit this restaurant. What a great place, the service is faultless, lovely people/staff. The food was the best Tapas we have ever had, very tasty and lots of choice, we had the recommended 3 dishes each and ate the lot, we also squeezed in a dessert. Plenty of parking out on the road and also behind the restaurant after 6pm when the restaurant opens. Make sure you book as it was busy when we were there and rightly so as it is a real gem. NOTE: Tried to upload photos of our food but kept getting an error.

Decided to book a table based on the fabulous reviews and we weren't disappointed!! Food was freshly cooked and tasted amazing even my teenage son (who can be quite fussy) tucked in and thoroughly enjoyed every dish!

Amazing little tapas place. All good was sensational but the Pri pri prawns, calamari and the mushrooms were particularly delicious. Would go out of my way to go again when next in the area.

Father’s Day and our fourth visit to this wonderful little restaurant did not disappoint. Always keen to take friends there when they visit us, it’s a 30 minute drive from where we live on the edge of the moor, but well worth it. Have seen some negative comments about menu choices and can’t understand the problem- I don’t eat meat and there’s plenty of fish and vegetarian choices along with meat choices. Lovely atmosphere, and the staff are always friendly and welcoming along with great service. :-)

Really beautiful fresh food and nice atmosphere. The portions were good and the price is very resaonble for the food you get and the service! 3 of us had diner, drinks and a pudding to share and it came to around £33 each! Staff were very friendly and helpful, they really added to the whole expereince. Will definitely return!

I would have loved to loved this place. The staff are lovely and attentive despite being busy: it’s just a food that has room to improve. The meat eaters may have better luck - am pescatarian so limited to prawns and vegetarian husband… well, I can see he would have enjoyed a more substantial portions and options after a day of walking. And packaged salad leaves or bread rolls… I know we are in the country side… but please..little details like this are :(… I suppose it’s “traditional Spanish tapas”.. but lack of vegetarian options (even manchego cheese for protein.. anything) in the (with considerable vegetarian population) UK is a shame…am sure a little creativity in this aspect would make this place superb. I suppose in Lynton the idea is that there’s enough travellers to fill the tables anyway… but it would be nice.

We’ve been here quite a few times over the past year and once again we had a really lovely evening before walking across the road to the Lynton cinema. Food is authentic, attractively presented and the service is so friendly. Highly recommended.

Visited Lynton for 2 nights. Treated ourselves to Tapas as this great little find. The potion size was perfect. The food was tasty. Even hubby liked it and he's very much a pie & mash man lol. Walked in off street with no reservation. They were very busy. I would recommend the lettuce with blue cheese & nuts. Hubby loved his calamari

Fantastic evening Tapas meal once again. We regularly visit the area and stay at Highcliffe House, The Oak Room restaurant is one of our ‘go to’ places to eat, lovely food, really well presented and super helpful owner and staff. We will always visit when in Lynton.

This small tapas restaurant has a good choice of menu and drinks and never fails to deliver good quality food each time we visit. The staff are attentive and professional.

I haven't had such good tapas in a long time! Interesting compositions such as stuffed lettuce hearts gratinated with gorgonzola and nuts. Great Creme Catalan with homemade ice cream etc. Let yourself be surprised 😇 Great service and good price-performance ratio

One of the best meals of our stay in the area- excellent food, great service and nice vibe. We visited during lunchtime so we were able to bring our little dog with us too- it’s always such a treat to be able to experience restaurants with our dog, as we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to visit. Will definitely return on our next trip. Everything was great but the particular highlights were the lemon dessert, the rolled chicken and baked lettuce.

Heaven knows how we have missed this great little tapas restaurant. It is so good. Lovely staff. Recommended to have six dishes between us . This was plenty and then we shared a pudding. I can imagine this place gets very busy. Check opening times until the summer is here. Must book. Thank you.

Food is very limited and if you have children do not even bother. We spent alot of money ad left hungry. I'm sure tapas in London is cheaper than 8 pounds for tiny dishes. If you want to drink there wine and have an olive with it then it's OK but for a family meal it's difficult to find food all the family will like . Tapas is Spanish street food not London restaurant prices. Won't be going back

A lovely tapas restaurant, with excellent food, great wine and friendly staff. Visited here a couple of years ago while on holiday and decided to make a return visit. It was very busy on a Saturday so book ahead if you can. We walked all the way up from Lynmouth and back so felt we deserved our meal.

Wonderful food,a new spring menu and I reccomend the tuna in pastry.The staff are friendly and informative, excellent service.Wine selection second too none and I would reccomend the Rose wine,Rioja.

Plenty of choice of tapas and each one delicious. Good bread and olives to munch on while waiting. Closed for the next two months sadly but we will be back in the Spring.

An absolutely superb meal, fabulous atmosphere, and great staff service. Went as a party of four and had a mixture of 12 tapas to share. All of them were divine. They arrived slowly throughout our meal, which was perfectly timed, so we didn't get overwhelmed and were lovely and hot. Lots of wine to wash it all down made it the perfect night. We will definitely be back and really recommend you try this gem of a restaurant.

We were visiting Lynton at the weekend and booked a meal for the Saturday night. The tapas was amazing and plentiful having booked three dishes each for the four of us. The staff were very friendly and the service was good. Will definitely return next time we’re in Lynton.

We very much enjoyed all of the tapas we were served. The meatballs and calamari were particularly good. 6 dishes was more than ample between 2. The wine was also very good as was the service, a lovely chap from Buenos Aries who looked after us very well indeed.

Last minute booking and we were welcomed with a smile and great service with amazing tapas and a delicious white Rioja! Everything was fresh and hot and beautifully presented, fabulous flavours and a great atmosphere! Thank you!!

We were visiting Lynton for one night only and the B&B we were staying in recommended this restaurant. We reserved a table a couple of weeks prior to our visit as we thought Friday evening might be busy. Glad we made the reservation it was packed. The menu recommended 3 tapas dishes each, we chose Anchovy Tostadas, Calamari, Chicken Drumsticks, Prawns with Garlic and Lemon and Chargrilled baby gem lettuce. The star of the show for the 2 of us was the baby gem lettuce with blue cheese sprinkled on it, fantastic. All the dishes were full of flavour with the exception of the Tortilla which we felt was a little under seasoned. We chose a bottle of Tempranillo plus a couple of additional glasses at the end of the meal. The bill for all of this wonderful food and drink came to £78 excluding service, amazing value for money. This was the final night of our holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed our night, Kevin and Yana were great hosts and very hardworking. If it was our local we would be regular visitors for sure.

Highly recommended, but worth booking as it gets popular. We shared 3 choices each between each couple as our tastes vary (it is possible to request minor variations eg no garlic or not too spicy; staff happy to advise). Dishes come as they are ready so all hot but order can be random. Waitress made small error so we got double one choice, but we were not charged for second - but we ate it ! My favourite was olives wrapped in parma ham; I was reluctant to share !! Wine good. Prices reasonable. Staff very friendly & attentive.

We visited whilst on holiday in Lynton and what a great find. Lovely welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff made this a great evening. The tapas menu was varied and all the dishes were beautifully cooked. The dishes were nicely spaced and we had a lovely relaxed experience. We had a range of dishes and chose 3 each which was plenty for two of us to share. We both agreed the pig cheeks was our favourite but the patatas aioli were great, we also had a lamb dish and hummus with roast peppers on crusty bread, Spanish omelette and a mixed salad. Good wines, also served by the glass, we couldn’t fault it. Tapas isn’t usually my partners thing but it was done so well if we’d stayed in the area longer we would have gone back.

Superb experience, impeccable service and food was awesome. We had already decided to visit this restaurant on a planned trip to Lynton with family and we weren’t disappointed. The staff are just lovely and welcoming and it was also very child friendly which was important to us as we were with our Grandson. We had 10 dishes between the four of us and this was just right for lunch, my favourite was the potato bravas and the Gambas Pil Pil. I would highly recommend this restaurant and it was great value too! Thanks for a lovely experience

Yarna+Kevin served us at the table. Yarna welcomed myself and my wife as we arrived yarna was professional friendly warm and sincere also well informed on the menu +drinks also she had a very good idea of our expectations she reacted quickly and in a very friendly manner we never waited longer than 10seconds for extra drinks water or the bill. Serving food and drinks at the table were very timely. Sorry Kevin we haven't forgotten you KEVIN was every bit as good as yarna thxs Kevin. The food was as advertised on 'the oak rooms' website it was wonderful the wine we had was exceptional I had a riocha rose' my wife a dry well balanced white wine. The oak room is an exceptional example to all other restaurants particularly in relation to keeping customers very Happy. Chose this place as it was busy when we walked by so booked a table for two. Turned up slightly before our 2000 booking and were seated immediately and given menus. Good start. Unfortunately it goes downhill from there. Waited for 20mins before we were spoken to again, after tables seated post our arrival, at which point we ordered the whole meal and drinks. 1 white wine, a bottle of beer and a bottle of water plus starter. Starters turned up about 10 mins later. It then took a good 30 mins after we had finished our starters for the waiter to come and clear the table at which point I assume the chef began to “cook” our main dishes. During this time 3 tables that had arrived after us were tucking into their meals. I admit they were bigger parties so obviously would be spending more money but that’s no excuse to ignore us. Then get our water. One hour and 5 mins into our timing and we eventually get 4 of the 6 tapas dishes we ordered. 10 mins later the 5th dish comes out. My wife mentions the missing 6th dish at this point, couscous, and we are told it’s on the way. Funnily enough, we’d finished all the other dishes since they began to arrive. The food was quite bland and not anything to write home about so frustrated that all the waiting around was not worth it. Another 10 mins go by before my wife has enough, cancels the couscous and asks for the bill. Literally less than 2 mins the bill is at the table and another minute afterwards the waiter arrived with the card machine. Fastest service all night! The waiter knew very little about the drinks on offer when asked about the wines and clearly there is minimal leadership or communication as both the waiter and waitress were literally serving the same tables instead of sharing the responsibilities. The larger parties were seen as a priority so us tables for two were ignored. Not a great experience, and will not visit again nor recommend. Poor atmosphere, poor service, poor food. Luckily didn’t ask for a tip!

First time tapas diners. But wow! The staff were amazing and the food was delicious. Staff were run off their feet but were so smiley and friendly. Please dine here if you are in the area. Wonderful dining experience.

Decent enough tapas. A few standout dishes were the pork sliders, baked lettuce with blue cheese, and the calamari. Nice wine, some available by the carafe. Dishes came at different times over a 30 min period so don't expect everything at once, which is normal for tapas I guess. About £120 for four, with wine for two, and a few desserts.
