Having passed this pub on several occasions when the car park was always very busy, we decided to visit with friends and what a disappointment it was. Two of us ordered ham, egg and chips, there's not much that can go wrong or so we thought. The ham was just gristle and fat and although we were offered a replacement, it was too late as our friends had already finished their meal. The cost of one of the meals was deducted, however it doesn't explain why the quality of the ham was so poor. This is definitely not somewhere we would return to.

The four of us had a fab evening at the Oak. We received a nice warm welcome from the staff and great, friendly service throughout the whole evening. Also, the Oak has a lovely cosy country pub atmosphere inside. I highly recommend the nibbles (Chorizo pintos, garlic bread & onion rings) that were plentiful and absolutely awesome. The starters (creamy garlic mushrooms & chicken strips) were again plentiful and amazing – delicious creamy sauce on the mushrooms too. Our mains arrived in good time and were all great apart from my friend’s fish pie which was a tad sloppy inside with a very heavy seasoning of pepper. The other mains were gorgeous though (seafood platter, chicken supreme and a classic burger). The size of the portions at the Oak were massive, so we had no room for desserts. Drinks were a decent price too. Thank you for a great evening. We will definitely be back again.

Overnight stay en route , our room was very clean and well kitted out inc coffee and tea making . The staff are lovely and helpful. Breakfast was good but could have been included in the room rate which was £ 85 room only . We anticipated a bit if a gastro pub experience for supper …the pub is lovely but the food disappointed us …choosing smoked anchovies , they appeared not to be smoked , choosing smoked haddock , sorry no smoked haddock so it was served with normal haddock , and the accompanying garlic potatoes had a strange addition we couldn’t make out . The other choice of hock pie was full of pork but just badly presented ….pie , veg, chips doused in gravy of which the decorative pea shoots added little ! We were then forgotten about around the corner of the bar and cut our losses , paid the bill and went to our room . Dining out since covid has become an expensive exercise for the consumer …a pot of coffee at breakfast was £ 10 for example ….so it’s very important that the hospitality business gets it right all of the time . Overall , a great place with nice staff …but our supper experience wasn’t great

A warm and friendly place with warm and friendly staff. We stopped there for lunch on our way home, having eaten there once before with with the Midland Centre of the Morgan Sports Car Club and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was tasty, wholesome and plentifl: clearly fresh-cooked and served nice and hot on warm plates to peserve the temperature. Whilst chips may not lit everybody's boiler, theirs ar out of this world - gently crispy without being fried to Sidcup and back, the interior is soft and fluffy with no hint of dryness. I cannot think of a negative comment to make!

I was told vegetarian roast dinner would come with veg sausage but it arrived without. Both roast dinners are were saturated in butter and the veg just tasted like it was soaked in butter. Yorkshire puddings were rock hard and dry/burnt. I did mention to the waitress but just got told she forgot about the sausages even though we were told it came with them and regards to the excessive amount of butter that just got ignored. Disappointing unfortunately and won’t be returning. Chef needs to lay off the butter it’s insane amounts, literally can see it floating in the gravy.

Service very attentive and prompt and staff very neat, smart and extremely polite. Food was more than we could eat (healthy portions) and sooooo tasty and very well presented. We stayed here for the first time a year ago, we had a lovely room and great food. This visit if we had seen the room before we had paid (we were asked to pay upfront as they said they were changing management), we would have left, the quiet room overlooking the garden turned out to be a very noisy room overlooking the main road. The radiator in the room was broken and no one had thought to put the convector heater on in advance of our arrival so the room was freezing, I sat wrapped in the duvet. The cobwebs and dust on the lampshades was off putting, food was disappointing both lunch and dinner and breakfast wasn't much better. I truly hope the new management address the hickups and restores it to what it was. Oh I highly recommend double glazing the windows in room 1 and consider changing the beds and blinds in the bathroom as well as giving it a really good clean.

Dinner was fine, although a little odd to sit there hearing a group of stag night revellers singing (no bad language though) and not really in keeping with dinner I thought. There seems to have been a change which I just can't quite put my finger on, but it just didn't feel right and I wasn't entirely comfortable the whole evening. The food was fine, the beer (as always) excellent, and the service faultless, but there just seemed to be a strange atmosphere. However the pricing policy on drinks is shocking. Pint of lime and lemonade £3.60, pint of Pepsi £3.00, Pint of Thatchers £3.60. Now hang on how can that be justified. I thought 'society' was trying to encourage drivers not to drink alcohol. Apparently the lemonade is £3.00 with an additional £0.60 for a dash of cordial - disgraceful profit margins. This organisation needs to look at its pricing policy.

Popped in for a midweek dinner with my partner. We sat at a scruffy table in a gloomy room. The tables around us hadnt been cleared. The menu was restricted by lack of choice as " we've run out of pie". Despite the place being half empty we had to wait over 45 minutes for our food. When it finally arrived the teggine which tasted and looked like stew....no evidence of apricot or nuts. My partner had the deluxe burger which was dry, overlooked, and the cheese was burnt to a crisp. The service was slow and poor. We had to ask for additional drinks, for our table candle to be lit and nobody came to ask if the food was satisfactory. We reluctantly paid our bill...and told the staff that it was a dreadful meal and that we wouldnt be returning. No action or apology was given....We live locally and are aware that we need to support our local pubs....but I'm afraid we can't support poor service and terrible food...we won't be returning!!

Called in here at 5.20pm, got a couple of drinks and were told choose your own table server will be with you soon. So we chose a table by the window and waited, and waited nearly 20 minutes before she arrived to take our order. We decided on the olives to start then my partner had the lamb chop and I chose the tagine. Starters arrived and for the price it was not a good portion. Got another drink from the bar, because server had not come back to our table and was out of sight. She eventually returned to clear the table and then brought the main courses. Both looked really nice, unfortunately even after waiting a long time, my tagine was only lukewarm. Back to the bar, as the server rarely came near our table, and another server apologised and took it away. Another wait, 15 minutes this time and my food reappeared, this time piping hot. The food was delicious and we ate everything. Our server then came and cleared the table and we asked for a dessert menu. It never came, and she never came back. 30 minutes later a different server appeared and she asked if we needed anything, told here we were waiting for a dessert menu. She brought one immediately.

Despite booking a table for my wife and I at 7 .30 we arrived 10 minutes early and were shown to our table at 7.20. The waitress duly arrived to take our drinks order and this was served promptly, no problems there.

Had a family Father’s Day meal and there were 4 other people eating. They had run out of certain starters at 4pm. Had no batter, even though it’s flour and water!!. And the service was painfully slow. Starters took 35 mins mains took 40 mins, had to ask if we could have another drink etc. Fish and chips were dry, steak had been burned on the griddle, pie and beef dinner were ok.

We went for a Saturday lunch, eventually we were noticed (we had already booked) and shown to our table, nice location in the pub part - not in the "Twisted Spoon".

Stayed here for one night's rest and recuperation on our way home from Birmingham to Devon. What a fantastic place to stay. Nice sunny garden, lovely quaint bar and restaurant, great food, and my partner was impressed by the large selection of ales. We had a quirky twin room and both slept really well. Breakfast was served in the Twisted Spoon restaurant and was piping hot and delicious, sausages to die for. A special mention to Chloe she was there when we checked in and still there at breakfast so helpful and friendly well done. Hopefully we will stay again.

Very disappointed today. Something has happened as the food has deteriorated as well as the hygiene of the toilets. I will really think it again before going

When these were first on sale, we travelled four miles to collect, They were exactly the same as those purchased in the restaurant. On the last two occasions,we were disappointed. Although you can't fault the fish or the arranged collection times, the chips served recently were barely cooked at all, never mind "Triple Cooked". They were poor quality potato's that had been used, had not been fried for long enough, were white and brittle. Unfortunately, unless the package is opened before leaving the pub, you are unaware what you have bought. Get back on track , before folks start using the local chippies, all available within the same distance.

Unplanned visit for lunch on Friday 6th April. Made very welcome by James and his colleagues and enjoyed a well cooked and well presented lunch. Preferred the ambience of the old bar to the other end where white furnishings and red tablecloths give it a 'cafe' appearance.

My wife and I popped in the Oak for lunch and were treated to first class service, excellent food with different options of seating areas. They have still maintained the typical pub decor (that I like) with the exception of ceiling in the main bar which looks fantastic as it is lined by numerous wine bottles.

This is a pub-restaurant which is trying to be a bit too fashionable and twee. The food is a bit 'neuveau cuisine' and so portions are small. Foreign cooking predominates. It is expensive for what it is.

Hadn’t been here in years and just enjoyed a great meal. Lovely atmosphere cheerful staff and great food. We shared the Camembert and had the fish and the tangne. Both very good but the portions are large so go there hungry. Very nice all round...

As a frequent solo diner around all of the Cotswolds, I have frequented many local eateries and have previously stayed at the Crown. Last night I thought I would indulge myself by dining there. I had two starters rather than one main. The service was excellent, the team were friendly and attentive and the food was 1st class!! Thank you Reece, you really are a top chef, funds permitting I may come back again tonight !!

We meet our friends here on Sunday 7th of July 2024 for a traditional Sunday Lunch. We were not disappointed. The service from the team was fantastic and the food was great. I had a beef roast which can be hit and miss wherever you go, and it was cooked to perfection. Nice dollop of gravy and Puds were lovely. Well presented food.

Really disappointed with the Father Christmas experience… please don’t spend your hard earned money on this, we felt so underwhelmed and just glad our daughter is young so she didn’t notice how poor it was. Paid £45.50 for 2 adults and 1 child. The elves didn’t have a script, Father Christmas wasn’t very enthusiastic and sat at the front of the barn reading out names and what the children would like… but it wasn’t very clear and all seemed as though they didn’t know what they were doing. Had a 1 second photo with Father Christmas and then proceeded to wait 10 minutes for a bag of sweets… the toy shop is a good idea. 1 toy per child… however for the price of the experience and a £6 toy. The figures don’t add up. You can make reindeer food, and effort has gone into creating the set. Really sorry but we won’t be back. Wouldn’t recommend with children older than 3.
