Lovely pub, staff very friendly and helpful, food delicious will definitely call again. Had veggie sausage and mash, other half had burger and chips. Both excellent.

Had lunch here recently as we had some spare time in the area. The pub was quiet though the people in there were eating. As we entered there was a lovely aroma of cooked food and we were welcomed by a member of bar staff. Some pleasantries exchanged, drinks ordered and we sat to look at the menu. A cosy little pub which I imagine would have a pleasant atmosphere during busy times. Our food arrived, hot, tasty and plenty of it, coffees afterwards were delicious and all reasonably priced. Enjoyed our visit and would definitely go again.

Poor service, we weren't even offered any condiments, spotted them on the side on the way out but too late then. No check back to see how things were. Food was very bland, ordered 2 dishes that contained Stilton, not even a hint of it in the taste. Some of the food was cold and some greasy. Not a good experience at all.

Visited The Oak today took my family had the Xmas festive menu was beautiful food came out hot and the presentation was spot on. The service was brilliant all the staff couldn’t do enough for us even though they had a big pensioners party going on. Thank you to Jason and his team for what a day we had.

Me and my partner and family went here as they had been in past and said it was good and we were met with one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. So now you have to order at the bar taking away the eating out feeling but every time we got food we waiting 30 minutes and had to ask the girl at the bar were the food was and then it still took another 20 minutes to come out our starters were burnt and cold and our mains were awful mostly inedible cold food on scorching hot plates which we had again waited for and then had to ask at the bar were our food was again was clear the food was bad as barely any was eaten and there was no apology for the bad food or bad service we recieved seems the staff were more focused on the what 7 people watching football and not the literally only two tables seated for food who were also ignored the same way as us we would not dine here again because everything was awful from dirty floors to dog bowls literally in the middle of the floor waiting for someone to fall over to awful food and awful service would not recommend at all

Waited neatly an hour for disappointing food. They came after the first 20mins to tell us they had rin out of sausage. The really disappointing thing is this is the second time we have had to wait an hour for food when there was only about 12 people in the pub. Won't be going back again

Usually like this place, however we waited 1 hour and 20 minutes!!! for a chicken wrap and fish finger sandwich, at 12:30/1pm on a weekday afternoon. Food was good, but the wait was way too long, I could have made it myself in 20 minutes.

Had lunch menu with my granddaughter today. Great food hot and fresh. Staff very friendly very reasonably priced. Will be back

Nice pub. The outside seating is close to the road and the point of entry from the car park, so always people walking in between the seats. The food was ok for a quick Saturday lunch.

Tonight's meal was excellent. Music was quite loud, but we enjoyed a pleasant meal out.

As the Old Oak is under new management and myself and partner were both home for a change, we thought it would be nice to pop in for lunch in our dinner break. Only being 5 minutes away we thought we would easily have time. We ordered a burger and a soup at 12:40 and by 13:20 there was still no sign of it - as I had to be back at work in 10 minutes we had to ask for a refund. We were told it was due out in 5 minutes but we simply had no time left. 45 minutes wait in a pub with only 2 other tables being served is unacceptable. A real shame as we were keen to support a local business and would have looked forward to going more often. As it is we won't bother again and it looks like the same story as with all the previous owners. Gave one star as the person behind the bar was polite and friendly and gave the refund with no issues.

Heard it’s under new management so thought we would give it a try. All the food that we had was actually really tasty but the service let the experience down. Nobody really seemed to know what they were doing and I had to ask for cutlery 3 times. Could be teething problems but staff could do with some training

We recently booked The Oak for my son’s Christening and we couldn’t have picked a better place to have it! We comfortably had around 50 guests. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and even left the pool table on free of charge as a bonus! Would 100% hire again😌

Food cold. Basic and overpriced for what it was.. Curry was like slop. Sent Mt food back, and it was warmed up. In the meantime, my hubby had eaten his. Waitress was lovely and understanding. But no composition offered.

Local, not been for few weeks. Thought would try again as now under new management.ordered scampi for 2 of us. Very dissapointed. Chips were awful burnt crispy .Scampi ok but bit overcooked. Service slow.No atmosphere. No idea who was running the pub. Would have been nice for someone to have said hello. Wont go again. So sad

Came for tea with daughter and granddaughter I had the steak daughter has the chicken burger kids pizza and nuggets very nice will definitely call in again if around houghton again 10/10 the burger compliments to the chief ☺️

Decided we couldn't be bothered cooking and came out for tea. This is cheaper than the other local pubs for food and was better than the Boars Head we'd visited the night before, as well as much cheaper. Service was a bit slow originally but it was busy and everyone was polite and did all they could do. Starters were pretty standard but the burgers we had for our mains were genuinely some of the nicest we've had and the chef was very helpful and polite. I'd definitely recommend for some genuine pub grub at reasonable pricing. My dog got lots of treats and attention despite parking herself in the way.

I don’t like to give poor reviews but sadly feel I need to on this occasion. Went here for lunch on Good Friday. It was packed. We were warned that there was a 45 minutes to an hour wait for food but after over an hour we were told it would now be another 15 minutes. After 15 minutes he came and asked what our order was then said it was just being started! When it finally came after an hour and a half the food and plates were almost cold, the advertised Yorkshire pudding was missing and the jug of gravy was tiny for the sausages and mash. The £13 burger came with a small handful of chips whilst the £9 burger had the same amount. They did keep apologising and gave us a free round of drinks but the whole experience was extremely underwhelming and I don’t think I’d go again. They were polite enough but obviously over faced!

Booked Sunday Lunch here this weekend - our first visit. When we arrived, we were initially ignored by the two girls chatting behind the bar. We interrupted them, one of them left, and we told the other young girl we had a booking, and were told to wait a moment. She vanished and finally returned several minutes later and said we could sit anywhere. We then enquired if it was bar or table service, and were informed that we could sit in the restaurant part if we wanted table service. We found an empty table and sat down. There were only about a quarter of the tables occupied. We then sat for 15 minutes, but no staff came, no drinks orders were taken, nor was it possible to attract anyone's attention as we were ignored. It did give us time to note that the decor is somewhat tired and shabby. At that point we gave up and started to leave. As we passed the bar, the girl finally asked if she could help. We told her that if they wanted custom, perhaps they should look after their customers and left. We moved on to the the Black Bull at Old Langho and had an excellent meal with very good customer service. I would not recommend the Oak to anyone.

Service was extremely slow, took an hour to get the starter, food was good.

Really nice atmosphere. Called in whilst delivering into the local area and waiting to be picked up. Ash, I think she is the manageress , was a really friendly person and seemed pleasant and attentive. Nice pint of Guinness. Good place . Customers were nice and friendly.

Food tasted like it was reheated from at least the day before. The pub looks scruffy inside with boxes and bits all over. Slow service.

Went with 15 people for a Christmas meal. I wasn't expecting much as this kind of thing can be rushed. The meal was gorgeous. I had the turkey. It was a lovely meal. Seemed really good quality. The deep fried kale was so tasty!!! My friend had a crumble for afters which I had a bit of. Again so tasty and good quality! I'd definitely go again. Thank you to the team for being so accommodating when I had to keep ringing up adding people and changing orders etc. We had a great time thank you :)

It was our first time visiting The Oak and it certainly won't be the last. We felt such a lovely and relaxed atmosphere as soon as we walked in. Food was tasty and arrived with us quickly but the service topped it off for us. It's not often you feel so welcome from pub staff & owners, this place is just good vibes around, a clean, loved and cared for space, we would recommended!!

Food was fine for the price, standard chain pub grub from the freezer. Large group of us so expected to be some delay. Took order without making note and OBVIOUSLY dishes arrived that no one had ordered and someone eventually had to take another order and actually WRITE IT DOWN. Why risk remembering 16 peoples orders, it’s not going to impress anyone

Ordered chicken tikka curry, got a bowl of sauce just 6 pieces of chicken looked like they had been pulled fron a wing, onion bargie still frozen, rice hard, naan microwaved and hard NOT IMPRESSED £60 for a very poor meal, my friend got a mixed grill, 1 sausage, no lamb chop all deep fried WHY

On multiple occasions the younger staff never seem friendly or welcoming here, really glum looks on their faces. I get that it's not a glamorous job but put on some sort of act at least. The food is basic and bland here, nothing really stands out and I only recommend it if you're desperate to eat and have no other option. The drinks are nearly double the price of pubs nearby, walk a mile there instead and have a better experience.

A dog friendly pub with decent beer and nice, friendly staff. Enjoyed a relaxed couple of pints after a long walk and found it very pleasant.

First, and not my last visit... The young lady behind the bar (Monday 5th June) was spot on, answered all my questions as a new visitor with a smile... 🙂 Had the veggie burger, very good, onion ring side (great too have them not dripping in oil and crunchy batter )... Spot on pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord... Only moan is that I had no change and wanted too leave a tip on card, nope, brewertly/owners don't allow it, I felt bad, but will make up for it on next visit... 🙂

First ever visit on Sunday and what a great place this is. Dog friendly too. As soon as we sat down the barman fetched a bowl of water for our dog. Good choice of food on the menu. Partner had the vegetarian option of Battered Halloumi , me opting for the steak with peppercorn sauce. Have to say that the batter on the Halloumi and Onion Rings was the lightest, crispiest batter ever! The food was delicious. Nice atmosphere and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back.

Called in Saturday 20/05/23 I had the mixed grill my wife had the Lasagna. I had 1 sausage, 1 egg, 1 small piece of gammon, 1 chicken wing ( on the menu it has a S on the end, 2 pieces of steak the size of your thumb & fries peas. The onion rings & grilled tomatoe are now extras on this new menu £16.95 The lasagna very minute salad, garlic bread extra fries extra. 😱😱🤔 £12.50 with extras £15.50 Also the drinks are expensive compared to other pubs in the area.’

I went in with my family for a Sunday roast last week and it was incredible! The presentation of the beef dinner was amazing and it tasted just as good!! The 3 young ladies that were working were very welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be back again :)

Food was a let down. Ordered wife's steak to have no red on the middle. First one came out with blood still in middle. Sent it back. Had to wait as they cooked her a whole new meal but by the time hers came out me and our 2 children had finished our meals and wife cut into steak again and it was red again. They didn't charge me for the steak but would of rather had the meal we ordered so we could of all eaten together. Wife had to go to chippy on way home. We won't be going back again

If the above floats your boat then you'll love it here. But don't take our word for it. Read one of our recent reviews! Unacceptable. My family and I visited on Tuesday at 18:40 and were asked by the bartender (who was polite and helpful) if we wouldn't mind sitting inside if we wanted food, as he was the only one working the bar. We were happy to do so. We ordered our meal at 19.00 and were told that there was only one person working the kitchen, but they would have our meal ready as soon as they could. The restaurant area of the pub wasn't too busy and we didn't mind waiting a little longer, so we waited... and waited... and waited. After an hour and forty five minutes and our mains nowhere to be seen we had to give up. My youngest had primary school in the morning. We were offered a discount on the drinks. I refused and instead told them that I won't be paying for the starters. We left, went to the local shop and all ate prepacked sandwiches. A ruined evening. Can't wait to see you at the Oak!

Stopped here for a quick shandy whilst staying at SamlesburyHall. Parking available and nice area and nice pub.

Lovely pub, well decorated with great outdoor seating area. Pub has come under new ownership recently, prices have increased however quality of food is not the best - I feel the food is overpriced for what it is.

Great pub just what we were looking for, a short walk from Red Rocks Caravan Park. A good selection of beers and lagers. The food menu looked good and people who were dining clearly were regulars, always a good sign can't comment as we didn't dine. Service was excellent warlm welcome from the young man behind the bar.

Had lunch watching the football a few Saturdays ago and the food was very good particularly the garlic bread was unbelievable. Great service as always

Great owner and staff. We come every week after going to the brilliant Baby Cherubs baby group for delicious food and great coffee. They cater to babies and young children by providing toys and a safe area for them. We can't recommend it enough!

We made a last minute decision to eat out on the evening of Mother’s Day. What a lucky choice we made ! Although extremely busy a table was found and we enjoyed three excellent meals. From the moment we walked in we were impressed by the cheerful and friendly staff, in particular Megan, our hostess and server. She was delightful and oozed efficiency and hospitality. Our food was well presented, served hot, and was delicious. We noted a really happy and friendly buzz about the place and commented that we intend to pay a return visit. (The 5 star food hygiene rating is a reassuring bonus) Overall we consider this an excellent place for a no frills good quality pub meal. I intend to mention it to friends and I’m confident that they will not be disappointed.
