Expensive place to.eat Food fish.chips were good but nothing special

Bought a tray of chips, arrived home to find a tray of scraps, so disappointed, and now they have lost a customer if that's what my hard earned money gets me.

My wife went into the shop to order our meal from them. Two young ladies where behind the counter. They were both very pleasant BUT obviously didn't listen to what my wife ordered. The Fish & Chips with JUST salt, was messed up by the putting vinegar on as well, so that needed redoing. The Chips with Mushy Peas was done correctly, but the third item, was a shambles. The order was for Meat & Potato Pie with Mushy Peas and Gravy. What we got was Meat & Potato Pie, CHIPS & Mushy Peas, BUT NO Gravy. I didn't want Chips but I DID want Gravy. However this did mean that we were refunded on the spot for the extra Chips, but still no Gravy with the order. All they needed to do was listen and correctly list everything we actually asked for on the order. Then when it was all cooked to actual put WHAT WE had ACTUALLY asked for in trays. Not to difficult I would have thought, but this is now the second time it has happened to us. We will try once more to see if it is 'Third Time Lucky' and we correctly get what we have ordered. On the positive side, the establishment was clean, the food well cooked and the staff very polite and pleasant, the two young ladies taking the orders need to actually LISTEN to what people want and give just what was ordered to the customer.

Very rude man behind the counter. Ordered online to save time due to long wait times as well as severe anxiety. When arrived at shop, another online order came through to which he said ‘another online order, people need to get a life’. Really not happy with this and felt extremely uncomfortable. Food was also soggy. Would not recommend.

Now I understand why everyone says, "you gotta try the fish 'n chips." The John Dory Fish Bar in South Preston is a takeout-only establishment. I told them it was my first time and asked for their most popular option. They recommended having it with salt and vinegar. The food came straight from the fryer into a cardboard takeout box. I had to wait a bit for it to cool, but it was worth it. I wish this chain was available in the States.

Sausage chips and curry costs over £6.50 was ok but no lunchtime specials and that's a shame

I visited tonight at about 8.10pm (closes at 8.30)on the recomendation of my wife, got 3 sausage chips and gravy. Portion size was very small for the cost! I’ll put that down to the fact that there was still a lot of customers coming in and they where trying to stretch the last lot of chips between us all before the shop closed, even to a point where I seen the boss take a tray of chips back off a server with a normal size portion of chips in it and put some back! I left the shop at 8.35 and he had agreed to serving another customer fish and chips, I would hate to see the size of his portion. Lesson learnt don’t go in before closing time.

The food is good don't get me wrong but the portion size has reduced. Why is that?

We normally use John Dory on a Friday as a weekend treat however recently portion sizes have gotten progressively worse. Considering how much you pay, they shouldn’t be so stingy with portion sizes of chips. We had fish and chips last night each and we got a tiny portion of chips with each fish which meant we were still hungry afterwards. Are John Dory experiencing a massive chip shortage that no other chippies are experiencing? If they did proper portion sizes the food would be good. Please let your prices reflect your portion sizes!

Lovely food at reasonable prices. Fish looked MAHOOOSIVE so opted for a sausage and chip meal which I couldn't fault. Even had a bit of banter with me asking for vinegar on first 🤣 The man who served us was lovely, up beat and had banter. Will definitely be going again!

We both had steak and kidney pudding, chips, peas and gravy. Excellent, the best we’ve had in ages. Would recommend.

Visited here a few times now on my way through and it’s been spot on every time. Decent value for what you get and the staff are really friendly

One of the Best Fish and chip shops around, great food and service.

The food is served in really cheap cardboard trays, the trays don’t have a lid so the food is wrapped in paper. This made the food go all over the place and was also cold when we got home 10 mins after leaving the shop. I found this shop to charge a premium but deliver low quality food in low quality trays and wrapping. Not good value and our chippy treat wasn’t great. We will try one of the other chip shops locally, preferably one that uses decent trays and wraps the food correctly. £26.20 for a bag of cold food!

Great food, large portions, but, Was in there Monday night for pie and chips with salt and vinegar. Got to a place to at it and there was NO salt or vinegar on eithhhher the pies or chips, so, Tueasday night asked for EXTRA salt and vinegar. The order duly arrived, asked if it had the apropriate condiments added and was told it had. Got to a place to eat again, AND, NO SALT OR VINEGAR AGAIN. Won't be back in the area again for a couple of months but don't think I will be using this chippy again...

Andre is the best chippy fryer in the world.

I had a fish from here on numerous occasions. Just lately I've found they are very greasy and not very tasty. Quite expensive too. Also they charge you for a sauce which are free at most places. Stopped going there now. There just money orientated.

Went Saturday evening to try again, as always I ordered a lightly battered fish. Well again the owner couldn’t be bothered to fry one and told the staff that’s lightly battered. Well it sure as hell wasn’t. The batter was all wet and gooey on the inside. The reason why I always ask for lightly battered. Well it’s the last £8.50 he will have of my money. I’m sick of giving them another try. There are other chip shops, ok some don’t open Saturday but I will now drive to Leyland cross or farrington chippy before giving them anymore money.

The food quality excellent but let down by the early closing times.... 8.30 pm- particularly on a Friday/Saturday isn't great....... There seems to be an obsession with online orders also which they seem to struggle to co-ordinate with walk-ins.... chips piled up in trays 15 mins before closing time..... Also seemed to have changed the Hollands Steak Puddings to another brand that's tastes like a lower quality pudding....

Dropped a star for not having hollands pies. What can I say, I grew up with them. Lol!

Literally the worst fish and chips I've ever had in my life, we live around the corner and we ordered our food on the Internet, husband picked it up and came straight home and the fish wasn't one bit warm it was stone cold, a large potion of chips?! I'd say it was a small portion of scraps personally! And just to rub it in that little bit more there were hardly any fish under all that chewy batter! Back to the village chippy I go! 😋 *Andy- rewriting your response other a year later for whatever reason?... I still never went back, anyone else get yourselves to the village chippy its absolutely delicious! And the best bit is its not overpriced!*

Shame about this chippy, always enjoyed the food in the past. I honestly don’t think I can bring myself to go again. I went in the other evening and it was chaos, no queuing system, totally ignored, just shouting out random online orders. They totally forgot about the walk-ins and a lot of us walked out in disgust after about 10-15mins of not even being acknowledged. Very disappointing and something needs to change, whilst I understand about technology and making things more efficient, please don’t forget the passing trade. There is a lot to be said for the old fashioned way of walking into a chip shop and walking out with some chips.

Been going here years but the changes to other products are not to its favour. Stopped buying pies months ago but enjoyed the lightly battered fish and fish cakes. Just collected our food and very disappointed. Fish very small and tasteless, fishcake watery inside. Sorry wont be back !!!

Overpriced and overrated. Chicken bites looked 12 months old and the sausage, chips, peas and curry was a pile of mush. £11 including a drink. Won't be going back.

Foods ok but you order online to pick up. You turn up an atill gave to qeue and they dont have tour ordwr ready they just do it as you arrive so whats point in booking inline for a slot. Im disabled so i order in advance an expect to pick it up. Not wait

Called in at dinner today got fish and chips in a box for me and hubby .it was fantastic the fish tasted amazing.my hubby is a fussy fish person and he loved every bit of it and the chips and peas were just as good x

I love this place. Especially on a Saturday night when I have my chippy tea. It's closed Friday when I finish work so my chippy tea is Saturday. Always great service.

Alright but only alright. Ordered onion rings and at 8 for £2 I assumed they'd be homemade. Nope, I got 7 (cook needs to learn to count) onion rings that had come out of the freezer, and I had to wait over ten minutes for them. Not good. The chips were okay, my BF said the fishcake was good but not the best he's had. Next time I'm coming through and decide to visit I'll just get chips and hopefully won't have to wait so long for them.

Best Chippy in Preston area in my opinion.Some chippies are good one day and poor the next but John Dory's is a good nine out of ten everytime.I drive 5 miles to it and they have never let me down once.👏👏👏👏

They have a queuing system for walk ins and a queue for pre-orders which can be done online or phoned through, very efficient. Food good quality, not cheap but tasty

Omg..telephone ordered waited ages..they served walk ins and when shouted me in no chips so waited a good 20 mins over the time i had booked...and the meesley portion of chips for 2 pound unreal...the girl that served obviousley didnt want to be there..they werent even wrapped properly and my carton of curry was all inside my bag...will not be going again sorry but rather travel further from now on
