The North Star in Kingston upon Thames

I’ve not eaten at this pub but just popped in for on a couple of occasions for a drink.I’m basing my rating on what I’ve seen. Guinness is well kept and the staff were extremely friendly and efficient. I could not help myself coming on here to comment on some of the negative feedback.Makes my blood boil when people come on here to criticise such things as decor, chairs & a dated toilet area. They have short memories.Covid caused many pubs to shut down & were some of the most affected businesses of all.Many were unable to retain staff & struggled for that reason when business resumed.Many will need a long time before added exspence.Just like the refurb of your home you wanted but one of you had no work for a year or 2!The areas are clean, you are not eating at the Ritz! You want cheap so accept some compromises! If your food is not as hot as you would like, simply ask them to heat it or re serve it.you’ll only have to wait a couple of minutes.Don’t put up a 1 star rating for such minor issues as this could deter hundreds of customers throughout the year.Be better human beings! I hope o speak for the manager & have said all that he would like to say but cannot!

I was most impressed by the friendly and helpful staff, who are a credit to themselves and The North Star. Service was excellent and friendly, and you were made to feel welcome. Food was great and my meal was more than suffice in terms of portion size. Great Manager too, who was very helpful and friendly. Car parking facilities were great. Looking forward to my return visit on Sunday, with an elderly friend of mine.

Absolutely appaling roast , gamon was like an old bit of leather , potatoes, and veg cold . Didn't get to try the Yorkshire pud as took both dinners back. Waitress couldn't stop apologising , offered another dinner but couldn't bring myself to. Went to the Toby Carvery instead . Staff were very accommodating which was a bonus. Wouldn't recommend. Sorry North Star .

Decent locals pub in chessington. The pale ale was in very good condition and decent atmosphere for a Weekday afternoon.

Good food and staff. Dropped in on the off chance of a Sunday Roast, which we ended up with three courses all very good and would recommend.

We had a warm and friendly welcome. All the staff were polite and helpful. Food was of a good standard with ample portions. My only gripe was the time from ordering to receiving our meal was a little longer that I would have hoped . This however did not spoil our visit .

Booked for Mother’s Day lunch arrived there to be told the majority of the menu was out of stock so had to get my deposit back and leave, extremely disappointed as no where had availability so ruined our Mother’s Day!

Visited the North Star, was so impressed with the friendliness of both the bar staff and manager who walked around talking to customers. High recommendation.

Lovely food and atmosphere had a lovely mother's day down there highly recommended would benefit from a refurb hopefully will be in the near future as will be deserved in this pub.

This was my 3rd attempt there will not be a 4th.

Pleasant pub which is child friendly at lunch time. With an outside sitting area for fine days and typical pub food served by friendly staff it is convenient for local amenities and has on-site parking for customers.

great all week round but best day is Tuesday as that's when the quiz master ruth does her weekly quiz and bingo. plus good well-behaved dog are aloud.

I've been to the North Star plenty, the staff are always friendly, the service was quick, the food was great. It's an Ember inn, so I got the mixed grill, which is mega, but hits the spot. The atmosphere was inviting, and It was baltic when I rocked up, but the pub was warm and seemed pretty family friendly. Would happily drop it again.

The two ladies on duty were extremely calm and efficient. However large parties which had not booked or had doubled the number boked for were overloading the kitchen and we had to wait for over an hour for our lunch. When we did get it it was at best luke warm and the portions were not large and the gravy sparse. The pub is very run down and the chairs were ripped and grubby looking. We had to move table twice - once because the table was in a draught from the fire exit and it was quite chilly, once because the child of a party in the same area as us was allowing it to run riot and scream. We were looking to book this for our club to have Sunday Lunch in but there is no way we could bring them here. The Ember group needs to put some money into the building and providing adequate staff.

My scout group meet here regularly for meetings and we always recieve great service. We have had Christmas meals and will always go back again. I am also a member of the local running group and we meet there every week. The welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff is always the same. Great service. They need to be given some Money from senior management to help with the upkeep of the building, toilets and furniture before it gets worse!

My local and still good to visit.

Many very damaged chairs with significant gashes and foam showing. Mediocre food which took over an hour to arrive and one of the dishes was wrong. Due to how long it took to arrive and how poor the dishes looked we chose not to contest it. Bad service, including multiple points with no member of staff behind the bar and a particularly apathetic waiter who practically threw desserts at us after mumbling what they were. Toilets were grimy

Go there every Monday, it's a bit hit and miss on what they have in stock. Great game to find out what they're run out of, the manager ALWAYS blames the delivery company. No lime juice, no processco this week.

The time the food takes to arrive is astonishing. Constantly chasing to see when food would arrive. It wasn't heaving at all so it was unclear why it was so delayed. The food was nice as always but this will be the last time we visit you. The toilets need attention. So many cobwebs and dust and dirt along the skirting. They look very grotty they need a thorough inspection and a clean. The disabled toilet was equally dirty and it isn't an environment you even want to do your business in. Please can someone look at this feedback and action it please? The toilets are a simple fix

Have always really liked this pub, however, whenever we have come for dinner there is never a full menu to choose from, they run out of options far too early, especially when there is a promotion event on too. Such a shame the pub is let down by this. Also the toilets really need a refresh as they are in a state of disrepair!

Went up there for dinner and had no steak. Nothing else on the menu took my fancy. My partner had her food and I went hungry.

The cider on tap is terrible when I have been there and eaten I shouldn’t of bothered no deals on any shots and that’s if they even have any in stock and the amount of people I’ve spoken to that have been served raw food I have lost count

The food took more than 45 working days to come to are table and was dry and had no flavour all round a bad experience and food bought from locale shop

Great atmosphere, live band was really good and staff were great. Only very small criticism is that they seemed to keep running out of glasses

Came here for the first time, wasn’t even busy and food took at least an hour to come out, it was cold, overcooked and dry ( ordered steak and chips ). Constantly fighting off flies when I’m trying to eat inside the pub, the interior was really rubbed down and needs a refurb plus the men’s toilet is disgusting, stinks and really run down. Will not be returning here again.

Pub Specific Review: £££ Your very standard local. If you're looking for a bog standard local pub then this is perfect for you. Great Garden Space, Great Staff and a Nice Venue. you walk in to a good team who are happy to serve and chat with good brewed beer and fair prices. Good food deals and an ok eat. We'll be back as its again a decent local.

Shame about awful music, but it was turned down at our request.

Food was ok mushrooms and fish were very grease but edible. The staff were very friendly and one guy was very helpful and couldn't do enough to help but can't remember his name but he had a beard if that helps so yes all good.

Just your average place to go for a quick bite to eat.

Visited a few times now, every time has been enjoyable! Always a good time and staff are a helping hand whenever you need them! Holly is always on her toes, great work at the North Star!

We had a good experience here previously but unfortunately our last visit was not that good. We fancied a Sunday roast and remembered this place. It was 'late'at 16.30 but hoped for something nice. On arrival, we were served our drinks quite fast and politly. The pub was nearly empty with aorund 10 people dotted around. We sat in the restaurant area and looked at the menu. I did fancy the duo roast. Which is a great idea for meat lovers such as myself. A choice of beef or turkey was the other options. Well vegan option, but naaaaa. Everything dotted around said to use the ap, which we both had. But not used for a while aso had to go through the usual updates.The fastest updater got to pay, haha. When we did get onto the app only to find out, only turkey was available 😔 so we both chose that and some pigs in blankets. Spoiler alert a table that came in after us managed to order beef grrr. The food was ok, although the roast potatoes were very hard in the middle, we didn't receive the jug of gravey, and the yorkies were frozen (not an exaggeration) at the bottom. There was no one around to let them know about these issues, and no check backs were done. It's definitely a sham, but we will try again in the future.

Walked in to eat but 4 tables we sat at were either dirty of chairs were grubby/ springs gone or chunks missing ..Toilets were very grubby & in need of a good clean.decided not to eat & walked out

Popped in for some dinner, it was fairly busy with a great atmosphere. The whole team were great, they seemed to keep on top of service and made sure everyone was happy. Jake especially was very attentive and a credit to the team. Thank you Jake and all the team. X

We had a very nice early dinner and drinks at the North Star after visiting Chessington world of adventures. There are indoor and outdoor tables available, and we sat indoors. The service was very friendly and efficient. The food was tasty, plentiful and reasonably priced. The only issue was that they only had one fish and chips left even at 16:30 so they ran out early!

This is a nice friendly pub with lovely food. Could be more beers on tap, but the staff are lovely.

The lady behind the bar was great and friendly and we enjoyed our food came out nice and hot. Zach our server was great and came over to check if we needed anything twice and asked if he wanted to order puddings from the table! He made all the difference!

Took my dad for a meal for Father’s Day, service was brilliant and the roasts were delicious! Lovely and hot and nice fresh veg!

We were staying at a nearby popular resort and didn't want to pay to eat there. It was a short drive to the North Star and in my opinion worth the drive. We were impressed with the service and the food. Also a very wide and varied drinks menu. Would recommend.

Food was excellent and the garden is really nice. Staff are super friendly and helpful. I strongly recommend booking a table as it was really busy, which is a good sign.

2 stars for service but food was just awful I had the Sunday roast it was a tiny portion of poor quality food it came out cold at first asked it to be heated up which it was but still very low end food not worth £13 the beef was very gristly potatoes were more fat than anything else tiny portion too not worth £13 I also noticed that my portion was smaller than the people sitting next to me and the people on the other side also had a tiny portion where as Thiers was bigger for the same thing

Had a light bite lunch today, very good falafel wrap and sweet potato fries! 20 April went back for an evening meal, very busy would suggest you ring and book a table or go online and reserve that way. The sea bass was lovely. Thank you.

Below average food, no high chair despite request and you couldn’t even get tap water for the table. Bonus was it being kid friendly.

Bad service and not very good Foods.

I've always liked this pub for its comfortable atmosphere, but forget the food. The Sunday lunch today was revolting, meat and Yorkshire pudding fine, but the so called crunchy roast potatoes and parsnips were just covered in warm fat. Even when we brought this to the attention of the server our comments were ignored. Won't bother again.

Great pub for the local community. Staff are lovely friendly and in particular Jake. He is Always friendly welcoming and courteous. Food also lovely.

The atmosphere was lovely the staff were lovely sadly the food was a letdown it was warm and my partner chips were cold but he wouldn’t let me complain but it needs to be addressed and the katsu chicken was very dry with not enough sauce. And no dip for the popadoms I used tomato sauce.

I went to the North star today for my lunch /midday dinner walked in to find 45 minute waiting time to get any thing I presume short of staff sorry North star it had to be said

Stopped of for lunch ...after being informed of 45 minute wait was served overcooked inedible rock hard breaded mushrooms, followed by the chargrilled (burnt) dry piece of chicken, cold stale chips, gravy that was just brown water for better a word. Awful food and will not visit or recommend a place that serves sub standard food

Staff lovely stools and toilets absolutely disgusting. The material stools have ripped material hanging off with all the foam showing and there are quite a few of them. Really dirty Need to be replaced. Men’s toilet is revolting and smells but apparently this is to do with the fact that the main is level and doesn’t slope ? Such a shame because it is our local pub and we would love to bring friend here but “ the stools yuk “

I have always had good food here and its great value , but new years day they really excelled themselves. We had a full English breakfast which was really good, and the 2 young lads serving couldn't have been more helpful , so polite and friendly ,hats off to them ! So pleased we are lucky enough to have such a lovely local pub like this. 👍

Drinks O.K, food took 45 minutes to arrive and was dry however due to we were going to be late for a meeting we eat it and no body asked us how the meal was, so I am putting my views in written form.

Really disappointed with my recent visit. It was a quiz night so all the tables were reserved. We shared a table with a friend. You could only order the food displayed on the printed menus/sheet if A4 paper on the table, which we did. However we were charged more than than the prices listed. We challenged this at the bar and was told that the prices were incorrect! No refund was offered. The food was just ok. The table was sticky and the glasses were not collected for several hours. The staff were all stressed but very nice. The whole pub certainly needs a refurb. Such a shame as was always a lovely pub.

Served a reasonably priced Christmas lunch for 20 very well. Choice of 3 cask beers.
