The Bishop in Kingston upon Thames

Awful Sunday roast on 4th May I must say probably is the worst Sunday roast I've ever had so far. The lamb, the t-bone were extremely terrible, smelly, uncooked/ roasted, more like boiled taste, potatoes were uncooked, and Yorkshire pudding was dry and tasteless. Glasses were dirty, the water was rotten smelly etc. Service was okay, but not very clear. Location is great, but food is not. Sorry but I would not recommend anyone for eating out there!

Stumbled across this pub with my younger brother which was the perfect spot for dinner to watch the sun set over the Thames. The staff could not be friendlier or more helpful, if I’m ever back in Kingston I will be sure to stop in!

Lia was really good on saturday, what a genuine and confident welcome from a pub that I always enjoy. Love the summer at the Bishop.

Sunday 4.30pm for 3 people - saw online photos of the roast dinner and we fancied giving it a try. I had the roast beef and to be fair it was good, beef pink, Yorkshire crispy on outside and fluffy inside, with a good amount of veg. We all had dessert (2 crumbles and 1 sticky toffee pudding) which had to go back as the desserts were cold. This was dealt with by our server without fuss, but mine unfortunately came back and was still at best tepid… which was disappointing, but just went with it because the other server who brought the reheated desserts out was (imo) unnecessarily prickly about this issue… there was no need to make us feel uncomfortable about it. Beer prices were as expected for Kingston and the rest of the staff were lovely. The only jarring thing was the oddly eclectic music playlist playing out on speakers that were clearly shot. The sound was horrible and became uncomfortable after awhile… we decided to have a few more beers elsewhere as this issue was, as I said, jarring. However not enough to stop us going back and giving The Bishop another go.

Visited after a Matinee show at The Rose theatre on Easter Sunday for an early dinner with my daughter and was told by our greeting staff member, Ben, that they also laid on an Egg Hunt for the kids. Unfortunately, by the time we had finished our meal there were no more to be found, but Ben was a star and planted an extra Egg for my daughter to find. May I also add that my Sunday roast lamb was excellent!

Staff were so courteous and the experience overall very good. Amazing views over the river Thames and the sun was out so all in all such a lovely time. Thanks to the guys and gals at the Bishop Pub. 😀🙌🏻

The scotch eggs here are worthy of a visit alone but they served perfectly as a hearty thirst-inducing accompaniment to a couple of delightful pints. Best eaten with a sundae spoon, make sure you have it one day soon!! Ask for Alex ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️if you want top notch scotch egg service!!!

Was told to leave an unreserved outside table for someone who had booked. Am thoroughly disgusted by manner of which we were dealt. There were other tables available. A rotten end to a lovely time with young grandson.

It has been twenty years or so since I last visited this pub. At that time I believe it was known as The Bishop out of Residence and was one of the first new riverside pubs in Kingston. Dropped in for drinks and found the place to be exactly as I recalled it - perfectly fine if lacking the nth degree of atmosphere/charm. A very convenient spot for an eye brightener whilst shopping! Liverpudlian barmaid/server was friendly and welcoming.

Had a fantastic time at this pub! The vibe is just perfect—lively yet relaxed, making it a great spot to unwind. The view is absolutely stunning, adding to the whole experience. What really stood out was the staff—super friendly, attentive, and always making sure you’re having a good time. Definitely a place worth visiting!

Coming from a very fussy eater, I took the plunge and tried the Hertfordshire chicken ham hock and mushroom pie and I have to say it was amazing!! I asked the staff and they advised all pies are made in house. Service at the bar was brilliant, even when busy they manage it so well. My partner had Beef roast and he has no complaints either. Thank you team and well done!!

Very bad food and service! I've never felt the need to write a bad review but we had a rubbish experience at The Bishop yesterday. So many things wrong. Firstly the place was completely understaffed so staff were running around like headless chickens and I had to go up to the bar and repeatedly ask for a table when I walked in. When I got one it wasn't cleaned so had to make another trip to the bar to ask them to clear it. Then had to go to the bar 3 times to order food because each time I went they told me something else was out of stock. The second time I just had to asked them to tell me everything that was unavailable, which was basically half the menu! They forgot my boyfriend's drink so he had to queue for almost 10 mins to ask them for it again. We had to settle on 2 chicken pies, calamari and Parmesan fries. I specifically asked for the Parmesan fries to come with the starter but instead all four dishes came together. If the food had been good then it probably would have made up for the shocking service but we both got a very soggy, half empty pie with a few strips of chicken in it, mash with barely any seasoning, red cabbage, and a thin bland gravy. The whole meal was just a bland mush. The calamari comprised chewy bits of batter with microscopic pieces of squid running through it. Parmesan fries was the best bit and all it was a (small) portion of fries with a bit of Parmesan grated across the top. When I went to the bar to pay (because the bill never came to our table and the table was never cleared of course) I explained I was unhappy to the bartender and she didn't offer much help or explanation. Probably somewhere to go for a drink and enjoy the river views but that's all...

Really enjoyed our meal. Small plates were delicious. Toddler loved it. Bianca was really attentive and generally just lovely.

I've visited twice while in Kingston. Very busy pub had Sunday lunch the first time excellent and just stopped for a drink the second time.

Went into The Bishop yesterday for dinner. No one was at what appeared to be a host stand, where menus were. Stood a few mins, then finally asked barman who was talking to 2 staff across the bar if it was seat yourself. Clearly all 3 turned and saw us. Told us go ahead. Took menus sat down. 10 minutes, nothing. Thought well, let's go upstairs maybe wait staff up there. No one there. We walked out. Clearly no one had any interest in customers, people were sitting with dirty dishes etc. Went to Cote instead.

Great to be back in the bish. Great pub for rugby but without oppressive screens. Can't fault this pub not the fabulous service of Sophie who was there offering me a refill time after time.

Good pint of Young's bitter and excellent lunch options...particularly the Ham Hock egg and chips.

Absolutely brilliant service from a really kind member of staff, she went above and beyond. The children's meals were the right temperature to eat when they came out, which is really important when you're trying to all eat together. They even gave us extra peas for the children to replace the mushy peas that they had turned their noses up at! Very kind and personable staff, big pub and a small selection of games available too (chess, guess who etc)!

A large pub, great friendly service, it was quite quiet but it was a Monday afternoon. I sat up stairs next to the window to get a view across the Thames. A little disappointed the tablet hadn't been cleaned. However I enjoyed my pint.

We held our wedding reception in the private room on the top floor. Everything was absolutely perfect. Beforehand, the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating to any questions or requests we had. We were able to connect our music to the upstairs speaker, and they even threw in some decorations for us for our special day. The food was buffet style based on our choices, and every guest mentioned how great it was. We also had a drinks token system which they accomodated with certain discrepancies etc. Staff were so great and helpful the whole day, thank you for such a wonderful time!

We were here on Friday for my daughter's wedding reception. Staff are so welcoming and friendly, food is outstanding would highly recommend.

Came for the Sunday Roast and it was excellent. Massive portion and really tasty. Also ordered the Doggy roast dinner for my pooch, which was also massive and he loved it. The cost of the doggy dinner is also donated to charity which is really nice. The service was excellent, Sofia and Ben were really attentive and patient with me asking lots of questions around the content of the sausage that came with the dog dinner! Great lunch and I will certainly book again.

Lovely pub on the river - really good views, especially on a sunny day. Good food and friendly staff. My only criticism is the TVs aren't very big during big sports games, but that's a minor niggle.

The celeriac mash was delicious and the vegetables were beautifully prepared. We really enjoyed our vegan roast and wonderful to have a vegan chocolate mousse which was lovely but I personally would have liked it to be less sweet. The coffees were great. Atmosphere was lively and warm. Thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon! Highly recommended it!

I spent a lovely afternoon here at the Bishop. The roast beef was only out of this world, followed by a harty apple and fig crumble with lemon thyme custard . I was a bit sceptical at first, but it was delicious. The service from Bianca was first class.

This was a good pub but very very expensive. Over £7 for a pint of peroni!?! I guess you pay premium for being on the riverside but I didn't realise the Thames was so expensive.

We booked a table in advance for dinner and were glad as it was the annual carol concert/sing-along and the place was rammed! The food was pretty average, and we were disappointed to be honest. I had T bone pork which was a good size portion came with (very nice) chips and a tiny handful of watercress but there were no other veg. There was barely any apple sauce either (I know I could've asked for more!) My friend had the haddock and chips and said it was very average. We enjoyed the drinks and the service so we still had a great time. I think there is a lot of competition locally and the food really needs to improve if the pub is going to have an edge and appeal to local visitors/residents.

Had a Christmas three course lunch here and it was absolutely delightful. Delicious food and plentiful portions! The pub is lovely, traditional and cosy, with excellent views across the Thames. Ben and the team were so welcoming and friendly, they really went the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect. I shall definitely be returning again!

I brought my team of 43 here for a Christmas party. We took over the 1st floor and balcony. From start to finish, the team at The Bishop were outstanding. Ben was great at helping with planning, organising and the team were regularly in touch to make sure things were on track. On the evening itself, Bea laid out the room beautifully with a great table setting and allowed us space to create a dancefloor. Between Bea and Sky, they were fantastic hosts with there friendly and efficient service. The rest of the team were also great making sure the food was delivered promptly. I don't think we could have asked for more. We will definitely be looking to book next year's party here. Thank you Bishop team.
