Facing the Village Green, this pub is a great all-rounder - I only wish there were more pubs like this. It's very much a traditional pub, with a cracking atmosphere. There are three separate rooms: the main bar area, which is very traditional, a cosy room to the side with a real log-burning stove and a third room to the rear which functions primarily as a restaurant. The 'Norman Knight', in his suit of armour, guards over the door as you enter. There are a few other interesting features around the bar, such as a motorcycle hanging from the wall and a kid's tricycle, which all add to the individual character of the place. On the bar you will find a great range of ales, with about half-a-dozen handpumps featuring beers mostly from smaller local breweries - the Norman Knight house beer, brewed by Goff's is very good. The excellent, well prepared, home cooked food, from a varying menu, has a good selection of dishes on offer, including pub staples such as Fish & Chips and burgers alongside some more interesting dishes. Service is friendly and efficient. Prices aren't exactly cheap but a reasonable, given the quality of the food. They also host occasional live music. Jam aficionados may be interested to know there is a stall selling homemade jams and preserves, with an honesty box, a short walk along from the pub.

Stayed here overnight in our camper van . I would say this is the best pub car park experience we’ve had so far . Beautiful pub in stunning setting. The staff were wonderful and very welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious. OMG don’t get me started on their sticky toffee pudding. The best I’ve ever had . My tummy was actually hurting because I didn’t want to leave any . I would drive all the way down from Manchester again just for the food . Highly recommend and will definitely come again when travelling in this part of the country.

What a charming and extremely friendly pub. Our dinners both nights were exceptional, especially the fantastic chips and my husband raved about the mixed grill. Thank you to the chefs and Gemma for looking after us but more importantly to Bess who is an amazing host, nothing was too much trouble, she is definitely the warmth of the place. If ever you’re passing/staying near here please visit this little gem.

We camped nearby and walked down to the Norman Knight for a few drinks and a meal. Opting for the shared platter, we were very glad we did because it was delicious! Ham, cheeses, bread, capers, pickles, salad; it was so good and I was stuffed by the end. The cider was good too, and the wines we tried were also delicious. Finally, I wouldn’t normally review a pub’s WiFi but it was strong and reliable, and I managed to buy Oasis tickets while using it. For that reason, the Norman Knight has a special place in my heart 😊

What a great place! An unassuming little pub on the village green in a gorgeous Cotswolds village. We were greeted and seated by a lovely young girl called Holly - although everyone was arriving at once, she was unflappable, charming and smiley and showed us to a table in the lovely bright dining room. Then a fab server called Becky took charge of the food order - she was so proud and passionate about the pub, the chef, the menu, that we thought she owned the place. She really looked after us, and even though she was busy, really took the time to guide us through the dishes and pop back to see if all was good. The food was sensational - interesting dishes inc ''frickles'' (deep fried pickles in American mustard batter, with crispy onions) and ''Animal Fries'' (rustic fries topped with bbq brisket, chorizo, jalapenos, melted cheese, chilli mayo), alongside ''Thai style souffle fishcakes with nam jim dip & Asian slaw'' and a '' watermelon, Feta & mint salad'' such adventurous cooking in such a sleepy seeming village pub!! All the food was terrific, I can't wait to eat there again. Overall, this was everything a foodie pub should be - a great welcome, lovely staff, great food, and a nice bar for the locals too.

I don't know what on earth happened last night when we had dinner here, the reviews looked good, and we're struggling to understand how. We're very easily pleased and takes a lot to prompt a complaint, but we had an absolutely awful experience. My partner ordered the belly pork off the specials board, and it turned up on a side plate, a very few overcooked bits of diced pork thrown in with a few veg. I had the cauliflower with braised lentils, this turned out to be a few mainly burnt cauliflower florets thrown into a plate of sludgy lentils. The chunky chips we ordered came out as skinny fries, not a big deal but just added to the general lack of care. We were both mortified, to the point of embarrassment. We ate it as we were hungry and there was nowhere else to go as we were staying at a local campsite. One of the team took the plates away, and another brought the bill. Neither of them asked us how the meal was, else we'd have said how disappointed we were. So we just left, just as the table next to ours was commenting on the small portion sizes of their food. We should have complained but we were hungry, disappointed, tired and just wanted to leave and simply couldn't face the confrontation in the busy setting. No excuses but that's how it was. We are very relaxed easy going people but this was a truly disappointing meal and experience and we felt robbed of £45 instead of enjoying what we'd hoped would be a lovely Saturday night out and special occasion.

Stayed here for 2 nights in the badger set pod. Pods are comfy, cozy, warm and spacious. The pub itself has managed something that many pubs have failed, not only does it serve amazing food it’s still a pub a place you can just go for a beer. We met so many great locals early evening when we just stopped for a beer or three. It’s a pub you can go in just for a drink, or a full on meal. They have a top class selection of cask beers on as well and I had several of each over the duration of our stay. The staff here are the most welcoming, friendly fun bunch of people too. After eating we ended up chatting with two locals who sat on our table with us, we all drank beer and chatted exchanging stories etc, it’s really how pubs used to be, only shame is it’s not my local as it’s really rather special.

My partner is a vegetarian who is allergic to garlic. We booked to visit there last Saturday. My partner had confirmed the previous Sunday that they could make the Camembert dish without garlic. This was confirmed again when she phoned mid week and booked a table. On arriving on the Saturday the person behind the bar who it would appear took the booking seemed concerned and went to the kitchen to find out about the garlic. He then showed us to a table. It was only they were taking our order that we were told that the chef was "too busy" to accommodate this request and that the best he oould do was a cold cheese selection. There was virtually no apology for this and it was too late at this stage to go elsewhere. She was very unhappy with her food which was basically an expensive ploughmans and which we found when we received the bill was charged at the same price as the Camenbert. We never had a visit from the manager or received a proper apology for a ruined evening. We suggest that you avoid if you have an allergy.

This restaurant was recommended by the accommodation we stayed and to be fair we were not disappointed. The portion sizes were good and the good of a high standard. Service was good too. Only downside was that my main course was horrible. I had the grilled chicken and hock ham salad and it came looking horrible Presentation left a lot to be desired. They originally took my order wrong and I wished I have accepted the chicken burger originally offered ! The salad came with anchovies in it which was not mentioned on the menu. By the time my main came and was wrong the remainder of my party had eaten their mains so I did not bother ordering anything else. I had the cheese and biscuits for desert and to be fair there could have been more of a choice of cheese. We think about going back to this one if they could get the order and service right.

We had a lovely meal at the Norman Knight on Tue 13 Jul 2021 (during the Covid restrictions). Food, drinks, service and Covid security were all top notch. Returned two days later and what a transformation; food & drinks still good but service and Covid security had gone out the window. A girl (not clear if she was a customer or not) waltzed in without a mask, plonked herself down on the sofa next to our table and spent the next 15 minutes catching up on her social media. She seemed known to the staff. Another maskless woman then came in and joined her.Whereas on Tuesday, the occasional outside drinker who strayed in from for any reason other than to visit the loo was politely turned back, we now saw drinkers wander in and order directly from the bar. One chap who realised he might be pushing his luck enquired, after ordering a bottle of wine, whether he should now wait for it to be delivered back at his table. The barmaid reassured him he was fine. The staff were generally inattentive to us and other diners. We were up for deserts and coffees but by the time someone eventually got round to asking us if we wanted anything else we'd gone past it.The only explanation I can think of is that on Tuesday there was a senior member of staff on duty (quite possibly the landlady) who was a real dynamo. She wasn't there on Thursday.Such a disappointment on the last night of our holiday.

PODS -Ok, so we booked a few nights in the pod, due to being in the area. The pod, was very clean and spacious for all our needs. Our main issue was, when we arrived we we picked up the keys and that was it. We weren’t really shown any of the bits inside the pod. EG underfloor heating / aircon / bathroom radiator / Bluetooth and mood lighting. We kind of had to figure things out ourself. The bed was not comfortable; but we managed to get by, sleeping on the pullout bed. Shower door was hanging by a hinge, I managed to clip it back on and after it was spot on. For the price of the pod, it was a bit extortionate for the experience. We paid the same price for a more luxury experience elsewhere before we arrived here. I expected more of a guided experience at the start, more communication and understanding of how to use things in the pod. PS, we did check all the pack inside the pod, but nothing really explaining how to turn things on etc. BE AWARE - if you have a small dog, keep it on a lead as they can escape as it’s not fully secured by fencing / waitingRESTAURANT -10/10 by far an amazing experience and amazing food, loved every minute of it. Only thing I’d say is having a decent drinks menu. Having to guess and figure out what you do was a challenge, especially having to linger over the bar with COVID around. Thanks for the experience, we will come back for food, but not stay. The pods have so much potential, you could add more to the area, fire pit? / tables / benches? Have a look at other pods around the country and develop more. Thanks

Every year we end up coming here more frequently because nowhere else is anywhere near as welcoming and has food anywhere near as delicious as the Norman Knight. When I sit in other pubs and look at their menus, my mind wanders and I think ‘I could be having the seafood salad at the Norman Knight’ or ‘I bet the roast isn’t as good here’ or ‘I don’t feel as welcome here as I do at the Norman Knight’ . However, this fantastic pub never seems to be on the Best pubs in the Cotswolds lists on the internet when it should be top of the lot.

Been here twice whilst staying in whichford in horseshoe cottage. They managed to find us a table on the friday inside eventually (there was no note of our booking) but they are up the wall with building work.We booked again tonight and asked to sit outside. It was so nice all the staff are really lovely make you feel really welcome. The food is AMAZING. I probably ate too much as we had a pudding each.Would definitely recommend eating here.

Very disappointing. We booked online and were asked if we wanted inside or out. We booked a table outside but asked what would happen if it was too cold/raining and were told “we will move you inside“. When we turned up it was too cold unless you wanted to eat in your coat and as it was an anniversary dinner and we wanted to relax, we asked for a table inside. The waitress rolled her eyes at us and then said there were no tables available inside. We said we had been told different on the phone, which was ignored - no apology, no acknowledgement, nothing. Very disappointed given we had travelled over an hour to visit.

Pre-booked a table on a very busy Bank Holiday Monday lunchtime. We had a table outside under a canopy (all suitably spaced out). Even though the staff were very busy, service was very good and food and drinks all served very promptly. Excellent goats cheese tart followed by hake with a risotto which was fantastic. There seemed to be a very good fish and seafood twist to the menu. Just to note if you are eating outside then you will probably need to use the portaloos around the side of the pub. The Eat Out to Help Out scheme also made lunch extremely good value. Would definitely recommend and return.

Went with a friend as it had been recommended for good food. Lady who looked after us was lovely and very helpful. Three of us all ordered the the same, fish and chips. It came out and fish was hot but sadly that was the only thing, the chips and peas were lukewarm unsurprising as they were served on a cold plate. I told a member of staff and she took the plate away returning a short time later with the food on a piping hot plate. Unfortunately the food was still the same temperature, it had just been transferred to a hotter plate. I told the staff member and she offered to take it back again. I couldn’t see the point as I didn’t realise turning out hot food would be such a chore. I ended up paying nearly £15 for an ok piece of fish.

Belated review (apologies). We stayed in Shipston-on-Stour back in March 2020 (at thatched cottage), the week before lockdown and we eat at the Norman Knight most days as the food, beer and service were all excellent. The food is just fantastic everything from one of the best Sunday lunches I have ever tasted (amazing cauliflower cheese), fish pie, crab salad, steak, through to delicious home made sweets. Highly recommend, we loved our stay.

The title says it all really, all three lady waitresses were very helpful, polite and chatty. The food was delicious, I had the hake risotto and it was without a doubt one of the best dishes I’ve ever eaten. I understand as it’s a summers evening and with COVID about, it’s nice to have doors open. However the evening we visited it was overcast and extremely windy and we we’re uncomfortably cold. Apart from that a very positive experience.

Had dinner at The Norman Knight on the 10th & 11th of March 2020. Had the ribeye steak the first night, it was delicious, cooked exactly as I asked. My wife had the steak pie from the "specials board" and said how lovely it was, I ordered it the following night and I must say it was probably the best homemade pie I've ever tasted. The Real ales were very good and would strongly recommend the Brewers Blend from Hanlons Brewery. The staff were really helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble.

We came in for some food and drink after a long walk. We had missed the food service by five minutes and the hostess was very aggressive when we asked about this. We stayed for a drink nonetheless, but the pub itself is shabby and unclean (toilets were filthy) and we were made to feel very unwelcome by the hostess. We finished our drinks as quickly as possible and left. I simply cannot recommend this pub to anyone.

It is everything you hope a local pub should be with fabulous food - an interesting menu with a great choice of fish .....The staff were excellent - welcoming and very helpful and we worked our way through the menu! We went back a second time as we enjoyed it so much - don't miss the fish pie, whitebait and fish and chips but it's all excellent - you simply can't make a poor choice!!!!!!!! We went for an after Christmas/New Year lunch to finish off the festivities and were not disappointed. The pub bar and restaurant are welcoming with a nice warm atmosphere. There were a good range of beers and wines by the glass and the menu had plenty to offer. We love seafood and the mussels either as a starter or a main were a good choice but there were meat and vegetarian options as well. The seafood salad was the popular choice and proved to be excellent. The goats cheese and mushroom with salad was very oily and there was not much goats cheese however we all had an enjoyable meal. You do not leave hungry. The service was good and it was value for money. We are going back later in the year and I look forward to exploring the menu further.

I've visited this museum house with my EFL students (mainly European) in the past. It was always a good experience. The 17-century building was always comfortable. The students learnt about Shakespeare's daughter, the important ' health work' that her husband did and their difficult lives. The tour guides were always knowledgeable (and kind to my students). The garden was beautiful. When convenient we had lunch in the cafe - the service was always very good and the food was always delicious.

The drinks are fine , cakes are fine and the venue is fine but sweet Lord the server a middle aged lady with glasses and greying hair is abrupt and unfriendly to the point of rudeness. Think Basil Fawlty on a bad day. If you don't want to be pleasant get a different job. To be fair we are normally served by someone quite nice.

After experiencing the cafe on one of their club nights, myself and my husband were completely sold with Talton Mill Cafe as the venue for our wedding party. Fran and Liz headed the venue and their input was impeccable. Everything we loved about the place was brought to our day - a cosy vibe, relaxed, beautiful, and delicious! Everything on the menu was homemade and worked perfectly with the environment. Fran and Liz listened to our ideas and needs for the day and delivered. The weather wasn’t bad either!
