Had time on my hands waiting for my connecting train after returning from London. Decided to spend my time in here. Three people serving but because they were more interested in chatting to each other service was sooo slow. Several people waiting eventually walked out. Charged £4.80 for a pint of lager. I thought I was back in London.

Like hundreds of others (well it seemed like hundreds) I popped in for a pint while waiting for my train. When I arrived there were 4 people waiting to be served. One person serving and another receiving instructions on how to use the till. Two staff came out of the kitchen and wandered around collecting glasses even though there weren't many to collect

Probably the place is good for a drink while waiting for the train, but if you want food avoid! Between half the menu unavailable, the waiter not knowing the dish on the menu, the poor quality of the food and the expensive price (13£ for a ploughman's with warm prepacked cheddar...), this calls for boycott... On top toilets are filthy despite the sheet being signed for checks. The owners are clearly relying on the location of the pub (in the station) to rip off customers.

Met here on Friday for a drink only and it was fine. However when returning on Saturday we ordered food and that's when the fun started. After a rediculous wait half of the order was brought out the barman was asking who the mash was for?? No-one had ordered mash. It was actually risotto - dry, stodgy, grey and stone cold so it was sent back. The staff advised that it comes like that and they get loads of complaints about it so I suggest they take it off their menu. The hunters chicken at £8.95 should have been called hunt for the chicken, it was child size, dry, rubbery and had obviously been nuked in the microwave. The ultimate burger was better but nothing special. We needed to chase up the rest of the order as we had a train to catch and we'd been told that we had plenty of time when the order was taken. The barmaid disappeared into the kitchen to find out what was happening, after standing at the bar for a while we returned to our table but when she finally came out of the kitchen she stood chatting to the other bar staff and made no effort to let us know what was going on. Finally the food appeared, another burger and another hunt for the chicken, plus two pizzas. Now the pizzas were more like wraps, caked in thick tomato purée and dubious chicken and chorizo, the pepperoni was missing - they had none. Do yourself a big favour and go any where but the Nor'Loch.

This place is awful.Went in for some food prior to getting trains home on Sunday. We were first of all told the kitchen was shut - it was 12:30pm. We were then told the kitchen was open, but it was an hour wait....for a jacket potato. When the food arrived it was actually ridiculous. Lame jacket potato with the most pathetic salad....one lettuce leaf with a cherry tomato chopped within an inch of its life. The portion of chips were also a joke and the drink prices were unbelievable. Once we had finished, the plates were left in-front of us for 30 minutes. In short, go to Burger King next door and avoid this place!

I went in here last night for a drink with a friend. Waited to be served and was very rudely barged in front of by a man. When I pointed out that I was next to be served he just pulled a face at me. The barmaid proceeded to serve him and then said she hadn't noticed me! So I was served by a man with minimal English. I ordered a fresh orange and lemonade and a gin and tonic - hardly rocket science. What I got was one gin with no tonic and two more separate glasses - one of orange and one of lemonade. The barman couldn't understand that this wasn't what was ordered. He charged me £8.50..... We paid and left, never to return. What a dreadful impression this place must give to visitors to our capital city!

My and my boyfriend went into this pub ONE HOUR before our train we ordered a standard fry up and a sausage roll with a slice of toast. this was ordered at Half past 10. The pub was filling up with men drinking and before we knew it it was 11o'clock and we still had no food. I struggled to get up to the bar but when i did I simply asked the barman when our food would be ready and if it wasn't started I would like my money back as I hadn't thought it would be this long and we had a train to catch. He went to the kitchen and said the food was started and it would be 5 minutes. We wanted until 11:15 and we had to leave. I couldn't get to the bar because it was so busy. So I couldn't get my money back or complain to the man. Instead they will have walked out to an empty table and a plate full of food. Highly disappointed. I wasn't expecting a lot since this is a place in the train station, but I have mixed feelings. My mom and I both ordered the chicken Caeser salads - the chicken was very good (perfectly cooked, very juicy) and the croutons were great, but the lettuce had brown edges. My son had a burger and chips - the bun was over-toasted but the meat was good, and the chips were fantastic. We were there at 11:30 for lunch - and we all tried to order the flatbread pizza but were unable to because they were completely out of cheese. That's right - COMPLETELY OUT OF CHEESE. I don't even know how that happens. Over priced as well. Regardless, we enjoyed the food.

We were able to get a table ok, and then ordered at the bar. 20 minutes later I went back and asked if our food would be much longer and was told it would just be a few minutes. Twenty minutes later after a further couple of trips to the bar we finally had our food but no cutlery or condiments. When I went and asked for them the lad I spoke to snapped that I would have to wait a few minutes as he was BUSY!!!!!!Shortly after that I saw another couple order a meal and it was on the table within 5 minutes so we have come to the conclusion that the chef was not on duty when they took our order. I and my three friends paid a visit to Scotland in August 2013. In the last day´s morning we decided to have some breakfast before taking a bus to the airport. Unfortunately we chose this bar. As it was my first visit in Scotland, I decided to have a traditional Scottish breakfast, some orange juice and a coffee. So, I gave my order (to the manageress, I guess) an my friend gave theirs. We paid our orders and went outside the bar to its terrace, because it was quite full inside. It took quite a long time, but we didn´t get our orders. We asked a waitress serving a table nearby after our orders, and she said she´ll find out the situation. Shortly after that the manageress showed up asking what were our orders! So we explained her again what we were having... It took some time and little by little tht waitresses began to bring food to the table, except my Big Scottish Breakfast! So after a while (my friends had almost eaten theis meals), I went inside and asked (quite politely) the manageress after my breakfast. She went to the kitchen, came back and said: "I think we gave your order to someone else, do you want your money back?" I said no, I don´t want my money back, I´m hungry, I want my breakfast! The manageress went to the kitchen, I decided to stay nearby to ensure that I get my meal. My friend came by and asked the waitress, if it was possible to have some discount because I had to wait so long time (at least 45 minutes). She said she can´t decide that, she has to ask the manageress about it. Shortly after that the manageress rushed like thunderstorm from the kitchen, goes straight to the cash register, throws my money to the desk and says: "Take your money, you are getting no breakfast!" I tried to ask, why she was acting like that, but she would´t listen. So we took a bus to the airport, an I had my breakfast there. It wasn´t a scottish breakfast, but I got my belly full. All along, we had a great visit in Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Islay and it´s distilleries), people were friendy, but this one person almost destroyed it all. Fortunately, that did not happen, of course :) But there´s one place I´ll avoid when I next time visit Edinburgh.

If you have PLENTY time to spare you may be able to get a drink here before the train but don't count on being served unless you're happy to wait for a considerable length of time. We were standing at the bar for around 10 mins (pub wasn't particularly busy) there were 4 staff of which 2 were 'serving' at the bar. A 'gentleman' walks straight up to the bar shouts his drink order and is served straight away even though the bar staff had clearly seen us politely waiting to be served, when I pointed this out the response was 'you're all adults you can decide between you who gets served first', you have to shout your order at the top of your voice to be served even if you've clearly been seen standing by the staff. It's not a nightclub & it wasn't busy so there was no excuse, just a horrible rude little barman.

I have to give credit to the one Australian guy who serves at the bar as he was polite and genuine. However the rest of the staff were terrible and disgusting in the way they were treating everyone, not just me. The main problem that shows the standard of the workers is that I ordered a plain burger, emphasising the fact I wanted it plain - with nothing on it at all. Not hard to get your head around but I'm used to places making genuine mistakes. But it came as a standard burger with all the fillings. I politely took it to the counter and said 'sorry, could I have this plain please', it was the Australian guy at this point and he apologised and said she must not have listened. (Even though she came through and asked me to my face about what plain meant). But this isn't a problem, mistakes happen. The next one comes out with mayonnaise on it, at this point I felt bad and didn't want to take it back and cause a fuss, but I couldn't eat it so I said 'I'm sorry but can you just replace the bun, I asked for plain'. It was the older guy at this point and he was rude and snatched the burger away with a huff and a puff. I stood waiting thinking it would be a simple swap but on the way out of the kitchen I heard the girl in the kitchen saying 'how many fu##ing times is this guy gonna have a problem' and the older guy who took the burger came through the door shaking his head at her and giving a rude hand gesture aimed at me. Not realising I was standing there. He seen me and said 'oh I'll bring it to your table'. I finally got my burger the way I had asked clearly for in the beginning... Problem solved you may think. Oh no, they decided they would sit behind the bar and slag me off, saying 'ha we should have changed the roll for toilet roll' 'did you give him it off the ground' and plenty more. All this whilst sitting staring at me.I have never had service like this before. They need sacked, and they were the most dour faced members of staff I have encountered. And by the way, incase anyone was interested about the burger. It was extremely bland, definitely not worth the £9.80 charge. The bun was also chewy. The chips were nice though

Youve got to consider a place that provides food and drink at a Railway Station as a facility for passengers rather than just a trading opportunity for a Business. It's also I think, an advertisement for the City, perhaps the City Councillors should have a walk into Waverley Station and have a look at this place. It is of a type, we've all been in them, tawdry, depressing, sticky uncleared tables, dirty floors and the staff, disinterested, bored and lazy, stood together talking while customers are waiting for service, you know what I mean.I honestly expected more when I came to Edinburgh.Ps somebody said this place has just had a refurbishment......well, as they say, " you can't polish a t**d"

We have never heard such a unprofessional manner nd total lack of hospitality in all our lives, nd considering the pub is directly in the middle of such a diverse number of travellers on any given one day, I cannot fathom out why the staff have such a disrespectful nd unprofessional approach to the members of the general.public, which, after reading the reviews, seems to be very consistant nd ongoing. The staff are certainly not the type that should be in direct contact with any member of the general public, as the hospitality sector prides itself, in Scotland, in a friendly helpful and courteous manner at all levels.

Used to be ok to meet for a drink before the train but this refub actually makes it less welcoming. On arrival there was a huge empty space which I can only assume is for the crowds(?) at the weekend. Whereas the 3 new high tables with stools were cramped together and crowded making the place look uncomforatable busy. Nonetheless we eventually got a table but not only were the chairs wobbly but the table was too. Looking around I realised most of the tables were the old ones and there were only 2 new small tables but if they are both wobbly, head for the old ones - pity there are no longer comfy sofas to relax in! The interior design is incredibly bad with the dado rails already badly chipped (I turned up here last week to find it closed so I know how new it is). How bad will it look after a year, never mind a week? Actually trying to work out where the nearest bar is so I don't have to come here again when I have time to waste. Biggest fault of a railway bar is - the clock was slow. In all my travelling life, the bar clock in a station has always been 5 minutes fast so you don't miss your train.

Okay, so I have a few hours to kill at Edinburgh Waverly railway station and decide to go for a pint, check my emails and so on so I notice the nor loch bar, pop to a cash point where I take out 20 pounds, one scotish twenty pound note. I go to the newsagents and purchase from my 20 pounds some cigarettes for 6 pounds and 25 pence. And put it straight into my pocket with no other money. At the bar, and I use the term 'bar' very loosely and refuse to use the word restaurant. Scruffy, dirty, outdated room. Anyways.I order a pint and take out the ten pound brown note with which I am to pay for my drink. A pint of Heineken. From my ten pounds I got a grand total of 70p in change! I stared at this for a while realising it was incorrect and asked the bar maid (the bar man who served me had moved away from the bar) if this drink was nine pounds something. To which she said no they're 4 pounds something. So I explained I gave the bar man a ten pound note for my pint for lager but I ly got 70p change which was still in my hand and I showed her. She asked the bar man who was very curt considering he made a mistake, who said no I gave him 5 pounds. As I did not have a five pounds on me I know this is absolutely impossible. The guy (Tony) insisted I gave him a five pound note. Now... I suffer from rather bad anxiety and panic attacks where I can't deal with confrontation and will avoid so for me the conversation was over at this point as I was becoming panic stricken and needed to sit away from people with myself. There was no sorry sir, I'll check that for you sir, to check, CCTV check and form of customer service whatso ever just grumpy staff unwilling to take my case seriously - incredibly rude the whole thing, no smiles or thank yous just a £9.25 pint of heinekin slammed down on the bar infront of me.To top it off my drink was so flat and tasted sour that I couldn't drink it without feeling nausious, so I payed NINE POUNDS AND THIRTY PENCE for a drink I can not drink. Can not recommend this bar to anyone, I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy however if you go down to the woods today please expect to get ripped off by some Bar person behind the bar. And don't expect anyone to care or take any notice when you are short changed.Maybe try using the exact change.Anyway over the next two years I will be visiting Edinburgh station often and I will certainly find and incredibly easily find a better more welcoming establishment to while away the hours awaiting trains.NOT RECOMMENDED EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We visited this bar in a group of 14, aged from 22 to 65 years old. We found the staff to be rude, unhelpful and unfriendly. We were planning to stay a few hours but left after one drink.I struggle to understand how this bar is still open, except that they get passing travellers as its in a train station. Although I can not confirm this, I do not think they get any repeat buisness.I would avoid this place at all costs, within a two minute walk of the station there is lots of bars that value customers.

Diane and I visited for breakfast before departing Edinburgh having been disappointed with Garfunkels the day before. We agreed the full breakfast sounded great and appeared to present good value. In reality, whilst portions were more than adequate and appeared well cooked, both meals were swimming in fat and this resulted in neither of us clearing our plates and both suffering sickness/indigestion later!

Paid almost 9 quid for a limp sandwich with a couple slices of chicken and a thin slice of tomato, served with bad chips. It was advertised as a "whole chicken breast". Terrible meal.I had ordered a tuna sandwich but they were out of tuna. For a place with a pretty small menu this means even fewer choices.Sad bored wait staff. I had to ask for a menu, and then ask if lunch was available after being given a breakfast menu at 11.45 am.Toilet floor covered with water, too.I'd had a good meal here a couple years ago. Too bad,Not worth stopping here, now.

Popped in for a drink on Wed 19th Feb around 12.30 in the afternoon. You know which staff you are. Three staff standing behind the bar doing absolutely nothing. Sat at a dirty table with cups etc, staff looked at us and resumed standing doing nothing, table not cleared. Service really awful, staff very lazy. Toilets had no loo roll and no soap. This is somewhere will not visit again, would rather stand in the cold than pay good money for such awful service. Truly terrible.

The guy who served me hadn't a clue. Was distracted easily whilst trying to serve me. I had to repeat my order because he had forgotten what I asked for. He charged me £9-80 for a double Jack Daniels and a pint of Strongbow with a dash of Blackcurrant. The sign above the JD said £2-89 for 25ml and £3-89 for 50ml. Assuming 50p for the Blackcurrant then the Strongbow must have been £5-59. Ridiculous price. Last time I will drink there.

How wonderful to find this restaurant at Edinburgh Waverly Rail Station. It was festival time in the city so the servers wore kilts instead of their normal attire. I really enjoyed having a burger and relaxing before I had to leave on my connecting train. The atmosphere is pub-like. I found the menu to not be overpriced for what I have seen in the U.K. I must say what truly stands out is the personalities of the servers. I would definitely come back when connecting in this station again.

Visited this place while waiting for a train for 1 drink after spending a lovely day out at festival Some of the staff were downright rude I understand this is sometimes a difficult job but that is no reason to not be abit more pleasant too customers. Dear only knows what tourists visiting Scotland think of this dreadful customer service . This is the type of attitude in my opinion that needs to change MANNERS,!!costs nothing

Had a pizza here and it is was just what I needed before travel. But not too heavy but delicious thin base. Staff were exceptionally friendly as was bar manager Liz. Have eaten here before and had their chilli whichbwas alsoexcellent and well presented. Great place and an alternative to fastfood in the station and reasonable prices too.

Used to pop in here after work regularly and like a lot of other commuters had a good rapport with the staff. Drink prices were reasonable, especially with a Bite discount card... Then the management changed. After a series of staff sackings (some for not asking if someone wanted crisps or nuts when they'd already ordered a meal!) new staff have been brought in that are little more than robots. Prices have raised through the roof, now on a par with London prices, and the friendly atmosphere gone. The only people who seem to frequent the pub now are those who are looking to tank up before getting another train, riggers heading south and people waiting for the last train home. The atmosphere is aggressive.Food is sloppily presented and fried to death, the hygiene standards of some of the kitchen staff delivering it to your table leaves a lot to be desired. My advice would be to drink elsewhere, there are plenty of pubs not far from the station. A shame as it used to be a good wee friendly bar.

I am a regular commuter to Edinburgh and before I was due to get my train back home I decided to Stop in The Nor Loch for a quick drink. I was asked for ID straight away which is understandable because I am under 25 but as I was getting my ID out of my purse the barman stopped me and told me that they do not accept provisional licences for ID?? I have never come across this policy before and found it ridiculous. He went on to tell me that the reason they do not accept a provisional licence is because there are so many fakes going about, but never even gave me the chance to get my ID out my purse to have a look! Don't know if it is a real policy or if the barman was having a bad day...

We were in the Princess Street garden's during the festival and looked for somewhere to eat that could provide gluten free food. Waveley Shopping Centre was a complete waste of time, so we went down into the station and found te Nor Loch bar. The menu appeared to offer meals that could be gluten free. Like most pubs, it is order at the bar using a table number. The staff said it had a been a busy day and some of the dishes were unavailable, specifically the main ones the gluten free diner selected. We selected again and paid. After waiting some time the kitchen indicated that the gluten free alternative was unavailable also, so we re-selected again! The third choice was much cheaper than the one we paid for, and the staff did not volunteer a refund, so we reminded them. It took ages to get the extra back from the bar (the supervisor not being available was the reason). When the food arrived it was fine - much what you'd expect as standard pub fare - neither outstanding in the culinary arts or classifiable as poor. We could eat here again if in the area.

This place really is the pitts. Had fish n chips which was awful. The fish was soggy and inedible. Drinks had lipstick marks on glasses rook themback. Barrly an apology andlocals loud and aggressive staff don't care less. Still waiting on a decent Gorgie establishment!

This could be a really nice place to eat, but unfortunately once inside the place lacks atmosphere, and more importantly the food is just not good. The soup had a funny taste and the oignon rings and mushrooms were clearly frozen, and quite tasteless. Even the tea had a bad taste to it. I was surprised that the pub was empty when I went in with my mother... forty five minutes later upon leaving, I understood why. I even apologised to my mother for taking her there. Yet it could be a high class bistro/restaurant, if a good chef was hired to conjure up good dishes. And it is a real shame because the pub is well placed and has great potential. Yet we were happy to leave the place as inside there was a strange sense of oppression, despite the waitress being nice, in her own way. A long walk along the promenade, managed to dissipate our disappointment.

Perfect spot for sports fans! Huge screens and a fun time with friends make it the go-to pub for games.
