This was the second time I'd visited in two months. The first time they were running out of food and the second time they were also running out of food! I wouldn't normally have chosen a (relatively expensive) jacket spud but 'needs must' as they say. The potato, the cheese savoury topping and the salad/ slaw was actually lovely and worth the price. The coffee was awful. I took it back, they re-did one and they explained they'd been having problems with the machine. The second one was just as bad, but I'd given up by then and put it down to experience. The female clearing up looked at it and asked if that wasn't very nice either. The coffee wasn't particularly cheap so it was quite annoying that A. They carried on serving it B. Didn't really bother about what they were serving or check if it was ok or not. Twice. Anyway, the spud was lovely, so they're forgiven!

Excellent coffee and breakfast. In a fabulous location beside a Roman earthwork fort in Beautiful South Tyne Valley, Local produce. Support this excellent local venture. We shall be back. Only minor negative comment was that service was very slow- but we weren’t in a rush in fact the opposite. It added to the experience.

Good menu. Very popular with bikers. Plenty of seating outside. Slight level of chaos with numbered tables and then adding numbered orders and using the 2 systems lead to confusion. The group before us in the queue took our numbered table ( which we had temporarily vacated!) and they left their numbered order on s wooden spoon behind on the counter so no one knew what was going on! However once the food arrived it was delicious. I can highly recommend the garlic mushrooms on sourdough and we would happily go back there again

This roadside cafe near Alston has ample parking. It has proved to be a honeytrap for bikers at weekends now that the Hartside Pass cafe is closed. A selection of home made cakes are available but the scones are incredible. Both cheese and fruit are really light and I was assured that they did not contain baking powder or bicarbonate of soda. There is a small farmshop area which the owners are hoping to expand. The Nook is close to Epiacum Roman Fort anda Bastle House. These are worth a visit if only to provide an excuse to eat more cake!

Came across The Nook while out for journey in car and what a gem of a place. Friendly staff reasonable priced menu only wish I’d been wanting a breakfast because what was on offer looked good. As it was we were only having Lattes and Coffee cake the home baked cake was “A1” Everything about this place was good “Cleanliness of premises was Immaculate”. Highly recommended give it a try if your in the area going from Carlisle to Alston.

Where to start? The Nook is welcoming, friendly with fantastic food. We've previously only visited for breakfast but it was lunch this time. The quiche is perfect and the accompanying salad was super fresh. I had previously had a piece of gluten free carrot cake out of interest but this time our daughter who is gluten intolerant was with us. I messaged The Nook via Facebook asking if they would have any gluten free cakes when we visited. The very quick response stated they have a gluten free cake option daily but if we could give a rough day we expected to visit they would aim to have gluten free carrot cake there (it really was sublime when I tried it). You know what, they did! And not only was it gluten free it was dairy free. And delicious!! There's not many places in the UK you can get gluten free dairy free with taste too. But you can get it here. I recommend here whole heartedly to both people needing special dietary needs and those lucky enough not to need extra accomodation. The team are so helpful, the setting is stunning and the food is just delicious. Some reviews have mentioned the prices but in my opinion they're no more than other establishments locally and the food is fresh and appears to be pretty much locally sourced as much as possible. And no, I'm not related, just very happy to be able to eat out as a family without worrying about dietary needs. We'll definitely come back.

The postal address had a Morpeth post town, even though it is close to Amble. Finding it with the aid of a satnav was essential. A lovely sunny day and the field out front was very busy. All sorts were there, a food concession was selling pizza. The beer was varied, but great. Just a pity i was driving, no carry out bright beer is available. Only in cans. Such a shame, would have loved to taken away some of their heavier beer approx 6% ABV Staff were friendly and the interior accommodation was good.

This place is a totally fantastic! Do not miss out on the 'Kipper in a Bun'. I wavered, and thought to maybe have a 'Banger in a Bun' although was so glad I went with the Kipper. Perfectly cooked Kippers, Lemon mayonnaise, in a soft white roll eaten on the beach was just divine. Wife's comments were 'That was Lush!'. Great friendly service and all locally sourced delicious produce. Even the coffee was from Holly Island! All in a free car park!
