Been here a couple of times. Enjoy the atmosphere. Much nicer since being done up. The food here is ok, but nothing amazing. Can be slightly disappointing at times depending on what you order. Recommend the burger or the roast.

It was a great pub during 2010 & 2011. Beer very good and food was superb when a chef called Alan was in charge of the kitchen. Head of bar, Sam, very popular. Now new owners have taken over and are clearly penny pinching. Changed chef and food no longer great, disgruntled staff and unhappy locals. Change of management would revive what was a very popular watering hole. @stroungreener.

This used to be a wonderful local (we live opposite) but the new landlord is amongst the rudest men I have encountered in the service industry. We went in this evening (Sunday) for a quick pint. It was pretty full of people having Sunday dinners, but we were barely through the door, when he came forward and said, 'Sorry, no room." I said 'We just want a quick drink.' 'Well, you can stand at the bar, but tables are full.' Awful man. A real shame as this was a favourite, but since he has taken over service is slow and his manner is abrupt and unwelcoming. Avoid this pub and try the infinitely more welcoming Stapleton or Old Dairy down the road.

We had been meaning to eat here for a while living very close by and it looked promising. Went on a Friday evening, fairly busy with a real mix of people, which was refreshing. Staff friendly and helpful and the food was very good indeed. My wife is a bit of a foody and she was impressed. Little touches like the mayonnaise with the pint of prawns was made from scratch. And a drinkable house wine for £12! We went again and the standard was the same and it looked like it was about to change hands, now it has, but the atmosphere is the same and the chef is still there and he is a man who knows what he is doing. Just to be clear this is a pub that does good food, not strictly a restaurant.

The blackboard outside The Noble announced: "Good food, good beer, good people."  We were also informed that "Michelle and her team" wanted to greet us, but said team appeared to include a dog, which was hardly auspicious. At 1 pm on a Sunday, we were the first to occupy a table, so we thought that a recent change in management (+ dog) and chef had put people off. An hour later, it was filling up, complete with one of the local celebs, Neil Morrissey (- dog). The menu is more basic than back in the days of the Australian chef owner, and there's no longer any Pacific rim influence: this is standard, and not particularly interesting, gastropub fare. The grungily sexy waiter praised the chef for his speed at getting plates out to the table and for his chips. We both plumped for the beer-battered coley fillet with the thrice-cooked chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. The batter was crisp but excessive, the coley was, well, coley (i.e. not the flakiest fish), the mushy peas needed mint, the tartare sauce was nothing like tartare sauce and the chips were, as heralded, fantastic. The bottle of French sauvignon blanc requested turned out to be a South African chenin blanc. Shamefully, we didn't notice the switch until the bottle was half empty. With new management and a new chef, we'd hoped for more of a move away from gatropub territory, but there was no evidence of that on our visit.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

The space occupied by The Noble used to be a rather seedy gay pub with darkened windows and equally dark fixtures and fittings. It then went through a brief phase as a sort of 'squishy sofas' place before being taking over by a very enthusiastic, young Australian chef who clearly knew what 'Pacific rim' was and wanted to enlighten the rest of the world. To be honest, it still has a somewhat dingy feel to it, with a predominantly brown colour scheme, but it comes alive at the weekend when it's packed with couples and families and serves one of the best gastropub roasts around. It also used to serve some really tasty tapas-type sharing plates that were one of the best ways of getting to know what the chef was capable of. Latterly (well, early 2011), things weren't quite so good, with different chefs coming and going, and many fewer, less interesting dishes on the menu. This could just be because of the chef's annual trip back home, but it's worth checking who's in the driving seat when you're booking.

Not much to say. Too crowded, only two staff serving approximately 60 people, long delays in receiving both drinks and food, culminating in me arranging my own cutlery and condiments! Sullen waitress, inept manager who had no idea how to run a restaurant, large number of young children in a pub completely unsuitable for them (why do people bring little kids to pubs on a Sunday? Can't they have a little consideration for other patrons as well as the poor, bored little ones themselves?) The one saving grace was the roast beef lunch. Superb quality and almost, but not quite, worth the stream of irritations that Sunday lunch at The Noble provided. At the end, as I tried to pay the bill (which took 20 minutes, with me having to go up to the bar and wait my turn) I removed the "service charge" on the grounds that, aside from the cooking, I had done most of the work! The quest for the perfect Sunday pub continues, because The Noble most certainly isn't it!

A great little pub serving fantastic food with a good selection of beers. The food is a notch above the average pub fare with a small changing blackboard menu and a selection of small sharing plates on offer. It's won me over since the (also good) old dairy restored it's TV's. The perfect place to spend a Saturday night with friends or a weeknight after work.

I come here all the time, the best gastro-pub in the area for food, the tapas are particularly good value and the cider selection is nice and big. Sunday roasts are a must, they are massive and extremely tasty. The pub is small enough to get a lively crowd with great atmosphere in on a Fri and Sat nite, and has a great following wih the locals who want somewhere less chain-pub-like, with great service.

I often drink here, but rarely eat the food. It is okay... they do various main courses or small tasting menu style dishes. There are so many better places to eat in the area though. It is one of the nicest places to drink in, especially if you want somewhere a little quieter than the big Old Dairy just down the road.

I went here last weekend. I had salmon fillet on wasabi mash; the boyfriend had steak on garlic mash. Needless to say, there was a lot of mash on the menu. There were about seven British-gastropubby items on the menu, ranging from £9 - £13.50, with one vegetarian choice. It was better than good, but not amazing. I had a very strong, sugary caipirinha which was a good nightcap. I would recommend it as it's relaxed, cosy, romantic and local.
