The Charlotte Despard in Islington

I’m never sure when this place is open, this is my first chance to try. Staff are pretty - very - grumpy, maybe don’t run or work in a pub?! Forever been curious but I’ve ticked that off now, not for me. Deffo not dog friendly as they have a cat, which is cool but good to know.

Can’t believe I’ve never been here before. What a welcoming space, with incredibly lovely people and cat running the place. Great food and drinks. The only downside, I lost my Legz fridge magnet. Highly recommended!

Friendly owner who told me the story of his Pub name after women suffragists, communists and republicans. which we all should respect. another thing ofcoz I would love to mention that they have a cat name Leg , which he has 3leg only, due to a accident 6years ago, and the owner adopt him, gave him a home. so sweet and friendly.

Estuve en el pub anoche y el gerente era el tipo más rudo que he conocido. Tuvo una actitud tan pronto como entré. La cerveza es terrible. Hay pubs mucho mejores en la zona. ! ¡NO VAYAS A ESTE PUB! !

Gran pub local con una buena selección de diferentes bebidas y aperitivos. Ambiente cálido y acogedor donde todos son siempre bienvenidos. Siempre suena buena música y hay una mesa de billar. ¡Lo más destacado es pasar el rato con Legs the cat! Se lo recomendaría a cualquiera.

Easily the best pub in London. Staff are friendly and really helpful - very happy to accommodate any requests. Great atmosphere.

Uno de mis pubs favoritos en Londres. Muy amable con una gran variedad de bebidas a precios decentes. Mesa de billar bien cuidada y realmente se toma en serio las reglas de Covid a diferencia de muchos otros pubs. Buena variedad de bocadillos de bar y puede pedir comida a domicilio en los restaurantes locales. ¡Y un adorable gato de pub llamado Legz! Qué más podrías querer. . . .

Nuestro local favorito, todavía viaja desde el otro extremo de Londres para tomar una copa. Siempre una buena selección, mesa de billar, máquina de discos, juegos de mesa y gato de pub. La casera es increíblemente acogedora y el pub tiene una gran comunidad de clientes habituales. Pub quiz es bueno y siempre el nivel adecuado de ocupado. Personas reales que recuerdan tu nombre y se preocupan por el pub.

Whilst this pub has a pool table and darts that is no reason to go there. After visiting 4 times I thought the staff were just having a bad day. No, that's how they are every day. They are rude, patronising to their customers and constantly judge anyone that walks in the door. I wasnt drinking when I arrived but was accused of spilling drinks which had just been made up. I'm a big fan of a community pub and love to get to know the staff on duty, I dont know how this pub still exists with such rude service...what happened to being nice and sharing a smile. You definately won't get one in this pub!

Went here with friends and the landlady and another member of staff were incredibly rude. The landlady in particular approached us and swore at one of our group. We were playing pool and one of the members of staff came and stood staring at us whilst which was intimidating. We have been a couple of times thinking maybe the bad service was just a one off but every time it has been just as bad.I wouldn't spend another minute in this place as the service is probably the worst I have had in a London pub.

A true local with a good range of kegs and cask. No food or kids, just a three legged cat named Legs. Perfection.

Went with friends on a night out - the staff were horrible.... extremely unwelcoming and rude. They publicly humiliated numerous people when we were there. Hopefully this pub is shut down soon.

The landlord was extremely rude and made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Will never return and would not recommend to anyone.

Me encanta este pub es al azar y diferente en el muy buen sentido. Las cervezas no son una tontería artesanal ni corriente principal, sino una gran selección de cervezas europeas bien conservadas y también algunas cervezas en barrica. Nunca he visto algunas de las delicias líquidas que se ofrecen aquí en esta isla, por lo que es un placer ver los gustos de Estrella Galicia y Verdett servidos por la pinta. Tampoco he visto el Parlamento de la BBC en una pantalla grande en un pub.El Charlotte Despard también tiene dardos, juegos de computadora, una cosa tipo zumbido y piscina junto con una máquina de discos. Es acogedor como con mesas y sofás a la luz de las velas, así que es bueno si estás viendo tus labios o con los muchachos, por así decirlo.No olvides al gato de tres patas que deambula pero que te rascaría los dedos si lo tocas.Pub de primera categoría, que es un gran grito en el circuito de cerveza Archway y Highgate. Cuando llegues allí, no sabrás si es jueves o Lewisham, especialmente una vez que le hayas dado todos los frijoles que tienes.

Doesn’t look much from the outside but a nice cosy local pub. Really friendly service, juke box, games and a pool table

An interesting pub named after a suffragist. The outside looks rough but inside is great with a pool table and great beers. Board games available no tv screens or loud music.

El propietario aquí fue increíblemente grosero y pasó todo el tiempo mirándonos por el rabillo del ojo. Todo el lugar olía a humedad y parecía que se estaba pudriendo. Y Dios no te permita tomar una cerveza a menos de 50 metros de la mesa de billar.Disfrute de uno de los muchos mejores pubs en el área más amplia.

Unassuming local with top drawer draft and bottle selection. This is ignoring the wide ranging jukebox and the open pool ta le alongside the a great range of board games.

Este era uno de nuestros lugareños cuando vivíamos en Archway. Pub muy simple. No estoy seguro de por qué tantas críticas se refieren a la casera siendo grosero, siempre estaban bien cuando estuvimos allí.

El Despard es un encantador local, Chris y Amber son unos anfitriones maravillosos, nos topamos en una martes para el concurso y ahora son clientes habituales. Tienen una maravillosa selección de cervezas y ales de artesanía y el amor que está abierto hasta las 1am. Amber hace increíble vino caliente y sidra en Navidad! Es modesto desde el exterior, pero cálido y acogedor interior y un lugar encantador para pasar una noche.

Una pena, ya que ahora es mi pub local, visitó un par de veces con amigos y familia pero el propietario tan grosero y torpe. Prefiero viajar a otro lugar para una salida nocturna. Evitaría este pub a menos que quieras ser hablado como basura. La señora no tiene habilidades sociales. No le daría un centavo al pub.

good selection of beers---locals are friendly enough for London--know this area well from the 70's and this pub reminds me of those times

Buena variedad de cervezas y una mesa de billar, pero la decoración es mínima y no será del gusto de todos. La música no es mala, pero el pub podía hacer con algunos nuevos DJs. Sin embargo, la mayor decepción es el personal, que son groseros. Cuando un pub tiene que depender de un gato llamado Legz tres patas como su truco, lo dice todo. Si estás desesperado por una pinta este pub hará el trabajo, pero hay más agradables en la zona con personal más amable.

Cervezas y ambiente creado por el impresionante dos propietarios. No hay muchos pubs en Londres donde la izquierda llegar a conocerlo y también recordar su nombre!

Chris and Amber are exceptionally friendly and have built a lovely, community pub. Great selection of beers, the toughest quiz in the area and a friendly bunch of regulars. Big favourite of mine

Love this place, been our "local" for since years despite us living some distance away. Friendly owners, fine range of beers and a three legged cat. What more can you ask for?

The pub where they know your name. Great range of drinks on draft and in bottle, and bar snacks. The place is clean and cared for, and yes it has a three legged cat with real character. Not sure why other reviewers have had a go at the landlady, I've found her welcoming and helpful, and a great conversationalist. If your on your way home from work it breaks the slog up the long hill, and they have all the daily papers as well as games, books, pool and a TV for special events. The quiz on Tuesday is also a must. Very popular locally with a mixed crowd, best pub before Highgate.

I wrote a review in March last year. I refused to return to this pub but a good friend moved to the area and convinced me to go back. I reluctantly entered to be greeted by "Amber" hollering my name. Accusing me of trying to ruin their pub on social media. This is brilliant! I had barely stepped in through the door. I have written one review which readers can clearly see. Without being flippant, I have better things to do than write countless negative about the same non entity. Other reviews that I have read have contined with the word "obnoxious" (please refer to the other reviews). Upon my name being muttered like the Devils halitosis, I did suggest that things were forgotten and we all carry on.However No! I was asked to leave....... Never again. The only thing propping you up is your pet at the bar who has nodded like a dog on the last two occasions I have been in. He jumps at the fact that you are such lovely people and you always look to him for an "aren't we fab" chorus :Funny that; same chap who won the pub quiz every week.....

I've been in this pub several times as I live locally, when we have visitors to London we always suggest this pub as it has a pool table and good selection of beers, well after our last visit I will never go there again, right after we ordered last orders, we were told by the landlady we had 15 mins to drink up, that was fine we said, 3 minutes later the same woman is shouting at us to leave, standing over our table yelling, we couldn't believe it, we looked around and the pub had about 10 people in there still drinking happily (although somewhat embarrassed at her yelling!), I realised that these were friends of hers. It was embarrassing to say the least, my friends from outside London couldn't believe it, if she keeps treating customers like this she will have none left, I'd really avoid this pub, there's so many lovely pubs up the road in Highgate with lovely staff!

I would have given this pub a great review up until last orders arrived. No sooner had the bar stopped serving than the landlady began barking at us to finish our drinks and leave. We asked her to give us 5 minutes just to finish what little we had left in our glasses and she rudely told us that we had had enough time and that we had to leave immediately. Such a pity that a bar with such potential is being run so poorly - dwindling patron numbers speak volumes...

The wife and I popped in here on international women's day after a lazy lunch and a much needed walk across parliament hill. She'd read about the pub in one of her cat mags as the owners, Chris and Amber, had adopted a 3 legged rescue cat who has become a bit of a celebrity.So we stepped in just after it opened at 4pm on a Sunday and it was the friendliest pub I think I've been to in London. As the first customers of the afternoon we had Chris and Amber to ourselves and they told us about Legz the cat and how he came to be the resident feline and how he's had articles in mags, a national newspaper and even a book written about him. Also how they've developed the pub since they bought it four years ago. And the history of the name - charlotte despart was a suffrigist the which was quite apt given the day!The place looks great and they have a great range of drinks and snacks and books and board games if that floats your boat. They also seem to have built up a community about them with many regulars and work very hard to make everyone welcome. Amber even gave us some cat treats for our felines.So they've found themselves two new regulars and if you're in the area I highly suggest you make a detour. Thanks Chris and Amber and see you soon! Amazing pub, really nice people.They have a lot of different beer and made amazing cocktails, but they don't serve food.Also, they have a fun quiz night every week, and a really friendly cat.

A pub with a lot of potential. They have made the most of it internally. However massively let down by the rude, obnoxious and unfriendly landlady. A very cliquey environment where she obviously has her small entourage of followers. I find it amazing that someone who has so little time for people works in that industry. It is almost comical how unwelcome you are made to feel and how little time she has for anyone other than her selected few. My friends and I have tried to support this pub but would rather go somewhere where you don't feel that you are putting anyone out by asking for a pint. An establishment where you are not made by a barrage of frosty arrogance.

Drinking here should be a nice experience. The choice of beers is great. The pub is nice inside. They do not serve food and look irritated when asked if they do; presumably because they are often asked. That's indicative of the management's general attitude - which is unwelcoming and somewhat miserable.
