Amy and the live music was fantastic

Friendly staff but one member acting a little inappropriately - jumping around and yelling with someone who appeared to be a visiting friend. Ordered fish and chips which was a little sorry, the pizzas looked much better. The music was very loud and coupled with the waitress'/staff members random fits of yelling I could hardly hear the other person with me. The other bar staff were lovely and kind, as they have always been on the few occasions I have visited. It's not always been so loud in the past, just very much so the last time I visited, and quite busy too. Great outdoor seating options and a nice view of the river. Would have opted for outdoor seating to avoid the noise if the weather has been better.

Great venue. Lovely spot in summer by the Wandle. Doesn't take cash anymore, which can be a pain for some people. As a positive, keep your eyes peeled, may see a kingfisher...

I only went for drinks but the service was good. It's really nice to sit by the river.

Highly recommed the Sunday roast 😋 👌 and to the lovely bar women think her name was Amy made are visit even more enjoyable,will definitely be back to try more food!! And felt very welcome 💜

We had the most amazing time hosting a baby shower at this incredible pub! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff went above and beyond to make everything perfect. The service was truly the best we’ve ever experienced—attentive, friendly, and so accommodating. Everyone had a blast, and it was the perfect place to celebrate such a special occasion. Highly recommend!

Excellent pub would definitely recommend, good selection of beer and the food is good, we had a party upstairs which was perfect, staff and manager very friendly and helpful.

Stopped in here for a drink while we were walking along the river. It's a nice-looking pub & the food on the menu looked good. There is seating inside & outside & toilets. I liked the relaxed atmosphere & would go back. The only thing l didn't like was the rubbish that was on the grass along the river next to the pub. It's not that bad but you do look at it. Maybe someone from the pub should pick it up in the mornings so customers are not looking at it instead of the views.

Fantastic pub with a great spot on the river and a brilliant function room upstairs. The catered food was delicious and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. Our party went so well thanks to Stefano and Kayana being so accommodating.

Attended the function room upstairs for a surprise 90th birthday party, yesterday. Really lovely room that already looks good without additional decorations. Outside area is such a great addition. The buffet food was great; tasty, varied and meeting a variety of dietary needs so that as a vegetarian I felt fully included not as a tag on. I've been to the pub before as a stop off on a dog walk or with my daughters special needs group. On every occasion it has been a positive experience. I highly recommend trying this pub.

Visited this pub, feels they were very unprepared for the weekend. Ran out of alcohol we ordered and food took 50 minutes to come out. Which is a shame as I have visited before and drinks and food been good but disappointed with yesterday's visit

Nice pub, tucked out the way by the wandle river, really cozy atmosphere with a nice lil view, really big outside spaces, must be awesome when the Sun really shines, only had drinks, so can't comment on food.

Apart from well cooked food and nice beers & wine ,this pub has a great atmosphere ,it is in a beautiful spot , indicative for a meeting place and most importantly it has very good staff !!!! Yesterday I forgot my glasses and came in today and the polite staff had kept them in perfect condition , for me. This shows among other things the kind as well as human side of the business and the people who work in it !!! THANKS & CONGRATULATIONS !!!!

Lovely pub , Amy never disappoints when it comes to Service

All day pub with lovely outside riverside (Wandle) and roof terraces with shady trees, partly covered, for good weather. Easily best outside space in the area, shared with a day time coffee shop next door. Tea comes in a tea pot. In a heritage area (Abbey Mills). Noisy inside in winter when busy as hard surfaces. Half price happy hour 6 to 7 (Mon-Wed) or 8 (Thu) is amazing value. 2hrs free parking in the "KFC" car park, or 3 hrs in Sainsburys. Updated Jan'25

Been going to this pub for years since i was 18, 42 now lovely pub all year round

We booked the private function room upstairs for my son’s 1st birthday. Everything was so well organised by Stefano who was quick with responses and was able to answer any questions in the lead up. We had Abi working on the bar for us and she couldn’t do enough to help, nothing was too much to ask and it made the whole occasion nice and relaxing for us so we were really able to enjoy ourselves! Abi also provided an excellent playlist when I’d totally forgotten to make one! Would highly recommend if you’re looking for private hire, the space worked really well for the party size and we all had a great time!

Thoroughly recommend this pub for an event. Had my seventieth birthday there. They fed the five thousand and left no stone unturned in ensuring we had a great afternoon. Moving tables, clearing up promptly and being quietly efficient bar staff all added to the occasion. Lovely venue by the river too.

Xmas dinner was poor. Wouldn't recommend it next year. Such meagre portions. If it hadn't been Christmas Day I would have been complaining to the max.

Absolutely disgusting Christmas dinner ,payed 70 pounds for 2 potatoes ,3 Brussels sprouts some unrecognisable red stuff on the side and 2 very inedible stuffing balls will never book anything in there again so very disappointed with the whole meal would not recommend it

A lynchpin of the local area and community. Best time to visit is in sunny, warm weather, if you grab a table outside next to the river. Lots of space, friendly, local staff, solid selection of beers and drinks. Food is nothing to write home about, just classic pub food (plus solid pizza), but serves well after a few pints. It’s a pub that does everything - sea shanty evenings every few weeks, footy during cups, live music, and just slow days when you can relax in the outdoor bay or stay nice and cozy inside.

Amy was very welcoming to me and my party and everyone loved it, we will definitely be coming back again!

Excellent experience at the William Morris. We had the upstairs function room booked for my daughter's birthday - it's a great space, self-contained which was great for the kids, lovely decoration, the staff were all really helpful (especially the manager Stefano). You have access to the balcony too. Highly recommend.

Went here last night for a staff leaving party in their private room upstairs. Nice place for a party. Shame but all tap beers were available up there.

Once again, it was a lovely night in William Morris. Amy, the assistant manager, is the epitome of customer service! She's a delight, so friendly! Sam was an attentive, friendly, amiable bar tender. Top place.

Good Sunday lunch which would have been just that little bit better if it had been hotter to start with.

Had a lovely lunch ,the only thing that spoilt it was staff taking away our plates and glasses before we finished,it's usually the cases that a table is cleared when everyone has finished spoiling our lunch experience and as we were paying a lot of money over a £100 for 3 people expected more ,,the staff although were very friendly and helpful

We hosted a small gathering for our son’s birthday and I couldn’t recommend it enough. Staff were really attentive and kind. Special mention to Amy who managed the whole day without fault. Thank you all for your help in making it a day to remember.

DO NOT ORDER THE NACHOS. Nasty. They weren’t nacho crisps, instead they were some dry, powdery, rank-tasting, homemade (and not in a good way) crisps (I’m guessing that’s what they were supposed to be, anyway). They were vile. Even my boyfriend didn’t like them and he eats anything! When the manager came over, I told him, in the nicest way possible, that they were not nachos and they were not very nice. He seemed extremely offended, didn’t offer any sort of apology and just walked off in a huff. A good restaurant manager would’ve asked what I didn’t like about them and then relayed that to the chef. But no. He acted like a told-off 5- year old. The staff are very nice, but the manager needs to buck his ideas up. If that didn’t make me wanna go back there, the fact that they don’t accept cash definitely makes it a no-go.

On Sunday, the 27th/ 10th/ 24 we experienced the worst treatment by the William Morris pub. We had a table booked for 10 children to celebrate my daughter's 7th birthday. (a package offered by the Wimbledon gymnastics centre). This package stated “we can offer children a hot meal and a drink at either the Belgium brasserie mills or the William Morris pub”. We paid for the Gymnastics party and the meal at the William Morris pub in advance, I received confirmation from both venues all seemed great! Four days before our event I received an e-mail from the William Morris pub cancelling our booking, after frantically calling they rightfully honoured the booking but I could tell they were displeased to do so. I visited the pub early on the Sunday to pre-order the food as  was requested , this was to ensure the food would be ready for the children at 2:10 PM. When I arrived at the pub they couldn't locate the booking (there was no booking). The manager informed me the children would have to stay upstairs, no mention of where upstairs but I assumed it would have reservation signs on the tables. After my daughter's birthday party held at the Wimbledon gymnastics centre we all headed over and straight upstairs at the William Morris pub. No sign of our tables. I had to leave my partner with 10 plus small children while I headed downstairs to try to find out what was going on, after several attempts someone finally informed me our tables would be inside the small hall upstairs. Unfortunately, we were not able to gain access to the hall, the doors were locked and all the lights were off. After returning downstairs again and begging for someone to help they finally came up and open the doors, but they didn’t even bother to turn the lights on, after hunting and faffing we finally locatedthe light switches hidden behind the bar. We settled the children and once again I had to go downstairs to ask about the food I pre-ordered earlier, the manager was extremely rude and made me feel so uncomfortable as if I was bothering him. Finally, the food arrived but no drinks for the children. I had to head downstairs to repeatedly ask again... and again... Obviously by now I was feeling very frustrated so I informed the manager I felt he was being rude, he had no interest in what I had to say. To make my experience even worse before we left the venue we took the Children downstairs to wash their hands and a female staff member approached me to ask if I was from the party upstairs, I said I was, the lady then stated we had to pay extra for the ice cream. Yes, we did pre order ice creams but nobody remembered to to bring them up, no one remembered to check if we were OK or if we needed anything else but charging us extra for ice creams we did not have, ohh they can remember that! To summarise the customer service was a complete shambles from beginning to end, they had absolutely no consideration this was a special event or that we had ten small children. As much as we can sympathise staff were busy this was supposed to be a pre booked event offered by the Wimbledon Gymnasts centre (whom were brilliant) the way we were treated was horrendous and simply unacceptable.

It’s such a lovely pub and the workers there are very nice especially a hard worker named Amy and she serves with the most splendid service

Went for Sunday lunch, which we prebooked. The menu we pre-booked from included cauliflower cheese. This was an additional cost when we got there. We were unable to order tea or coffee when ordering desserts. There was also confusion that we hadn't paid when we had. This is the first time we have eaten here so there may be reasons for the service feeling a little chaotic. The food we ate was fine.

Had my daughter’s 7th birthday party upstairs. Firstly, the manager showed me to the room, opened the door and didn’t even have the decency to switch on the lights, or anything at all welcoming. My wife then asked about our food order which was already payed for and the response from the same manager (before rolling his eyes) was as they are busy you can expect the food when they have the time. Terrible experience, no customer service and were made to feel like we were a burden. Will not be going again and dont know why they have these functions if they don’t want/care to do them well.

I went to this pub last tuesday for a birthday lunch with my mum and sister. The abbey mill buildings were gorgeous and old-timey feeling and loads of outdoor benches. The pub was right on the river and windows along that side of the building allowed us to view the stream during our meal which was beautiful. The moment we stepped through the door the service from the staff was perfect. We had quick service, lovely drinks and a great time telling the server about our birthday girl before we put in orders. Their food was amazing and supper filling, I'd especially recommend the deep fried chicken burger it was juicy and the spicy mayo was perfect. I could see the others thoroughly enjoyed the pizza and soup too. Despite turning up with a shopping bag of mismatched patisseries, candles and a single lighter the kind staff at the pub helped me pull together a suprise happy birthday plate of cakes to our table- i want to say a special thank you to Amy the barworker! Every step of the way she was friendly and kind and facilitated the means to celebrate our loved ones. Without your witty humour and charm we wouldn't have had half as much fun as we did. Our thanks are with you <3 Also dog lovers- place is super relaxed on a weekday and dog friendly with the dog bowl and treats offered. Great walkways outside for relieving boredom during sitdowns and our schauzer had great fun diving into autumn leaves outside.

I love going there in the morning for the small breakfast £3 and sometimes the coffee which is unlimited, just before my work Easy, quick and cheap. The staff is nice and the pub is clean. Early in the morning is usually quiet. If you're going there in the evening you will found a busy pub which is good, you've got differents atmospheres during the day.

Great place, with great atmosphere by the Wandle. Large outside area (best enjoyed in the summer) as well. Regular events (as of October 2024) - monthly seashanty singing events, and weekly pub quiz on Mondays. Very friendly staff as well. The one comment about the food is that the burger could be improved in my opinion.

Wonderful family pub. Enjoyed a great beef roast on Sunday afternoon. Very relaxed and easy going.

We come for the sea shanties! The group is phenomenal and fun. I adore signing along and the nice vibe these evenings bring. The Happy Hour is very generous. The food is above average for this sort of pub as well. Wonderful location right by the water. I really recommend coming on the first Thursday of the month to experience the shanties for yourself!

Used to be one of my favorite pubs and food was amazing. Sadly I moved so don’t come so often anymore. The food menu changed and the food is not good anymore. Very disappointing.

I popped over there last Saturday to take a load off by the river after a right tough week of graft. It was all rosy at first, but the service was slow as a wet week, no shock there. But blimey, the worst was yet to rear its ugly mug. Outta nowhere, some right dodgy racket started up, loud drums and all, like they was summoning a bleeding thunderstorm from the heavens. So I wandered inside and had a word with the guv'nor, asked him where the din was comin' from. He said it was the bleedin' neighbours, reckons a lotta folk ain't chuffed about it, him included. He told me if I weren't happy, I should join the club or sling my hook 'cause there ain't nowt he could do about it. Bottom line, I ain't never setting foot in Abbey Mills again.

We went here for our friends engagement party. They sectioned a part off and was lovely. Drink prices reasonable for area and staff very friendly and attentive. Lovely little pub.

Big friendly pub by the canal, a lovely place to unwind.

It was supposed to be a starter for 2-4 people. Very modest portion, very fatty, for thirty pounds??!! The garden was neglected, the tables were dirty and not washed since the previous day, I was there just after opening after twelve. Zero service. Clearly lacking a good manager. After this dish I didn't feel like eating anything else. I don't recommend it.

We held our post-wedding celebration at the William Morris and couldn't be happier with how it went! From the outset, the venue was very accommodating and Nat (in charge of events) was incredibly helpful. On the day, the staff were happy to help with all sorts of requests and the food was served promptly - not an easy task when catering for 40 people. I would highly recommend this venue for larger events and we really can't thank you enough!

A day out with a friend. We visited Merton Abbey Mills, which has changed a lot, new buildings and developments surrounding it. However the William Morris pub had a lovely shaded spot by the river ( it was 30 degrees) we shared a nachos and each had an icy cold drink . It was lovely sitting by the river and watching the moorhen and her babies swimming by.

Lines are poor, glasses not cleaned properly, staff are not very friendly and the decor is in poor condition. Only reason it's not one star is because cocktails aren't premixes.

We had our club summer party in an upstairs hire. With excellent food and drink on arrival, it was totally excellent value for money. We were very well fed, and the ervice was attentive. I highly recommend 👌🏾

Went to William Morris to celebrate a friend's birthday. Euro 2024 kick off visible from big screens outdoors. Felt like a good atmosphere. Only thing missing was the heaters outside on a chilly evening. Didn't sample any food, but menu looked pricey.

I visited this place on Tuesday night. Its right next to a river, and it has outdoor seating. I wanted something to eat not too much, so I ordered one of my favourite starters, salt and pepper squid. I have to say, it was absolutely brilliant, and cooked to perfection. I liked it that much, I had another helping. The staff were also excellent. Definitely going again when I'm in the area. The options didn't include squid, so I picked the closest which is Calamari. I also had 3 lovely pints of Stella.

Place has gone downhill. Food isnt great anymore, and unable to accommodate kids- didnt like our last visit so wont be returning again. We will go elsewhere with our business. Shame!

Hidden gem of a pub near the river wandle - they have an upstairs room and terrace and a good selection of drinks and bar snacks.

The best for weekend lunch and families time together

Get food pub menu and beer selection. The mussels and chips is on point. Also special mention for the fish and chips. Wagu beef burger and chicken burger delicious.

Have been coming here for years, getting the tram from central Croydon. Nicely located next to the River Wandle, with tables outside for summer and a long row of indoor tables overlooking the water. Good selection of ales, lagers and ciders on tap. Food is very reasonably priced and very tasty. Didn't have to wait long. A rather child-friendly pub, not my thing, but you can always find a table away from the loud/messy ones! Great pub to do a walk to (eg. From Morden Hall, we get off the tram at Phipps Bridge and do aa river walk in) plus there is the working Mill to wander around afterwards.

Only popped in for a quick pint, and had no complaints. Have never been to this area before, but can imagine it being packed out on a weekend when we have some decent weather.
