Good food in a bar with a great atmosphere!

Really cool place, lots of choice even for me as a veggie. Many different cocktails!!

It was really nice, but a junkie ruined the whole experience.

The food and barbecue were subpar, literally dripping in fat, and the taste was below average. Facilities and service were good.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at the Newsroom in Edinburgh and Olivia P was such a superstar!! We ended up having an absolute blast just following her recommendations and it ended up being one of the highlights of our time in this beautiful city. If you’re in the area and are craving some good food and quality whiskey you need to go to Newsroom and ask for Olivia P. We are definitely stopping by again next time we’re in magical Edinburgh. Average bar in town, expensive and busy

This place was packed on a Saturday night, but they still found us a small table to have a nice dinner. The staff was wonderful even though they were so busy, and we had a great time. Definitely try the Steak n' Guinness Pie!

This is a very busy bar in the evenings. We were lucky as they found us a space for 2. My husband ordered the Steakn Guinness pie and said it was very good, I had the fish and chips which we fairly good , a bit greasy . The staff were attentive and friendly but very busy. Great location for us as we were staying at the Roomzzz hotel across the street.

Barely finished our meal when a reserved sign got slapped down on our table! There was already a sign saying it was “reserved at 1815, please feel free to use the table til then”, so the table should have been considered occupied by us until then. Very disappointing as we had planned to have another couple of drinks before catching the train. Will definitely not be back. How can you relax and enjoy yourself with the threat you might get turfed out of your table. This was the managers decision, apparently this is acceptable to them, so the 2 are for the rest of the staff who were very friendly.

Came into a table with a reserved sign til 6.15 pm at half two thought thats great have a decent enough time for a catch up and few drinks but as soon as we put our forks down they slapped a reserved at 16.00pm sign down in front of us after a mediocre meal had to ask for chips to go with the fish and though bit weird and the steak pie was just warm enough not to put in a complaint but was decent enough .. a lovely pub but service and food below average ..

Olivia P was honestly was the most welcoming and brilliant server, I felt like VIP. I would 100% come here again for the service x

Prices are absaloutly extortionate. The food is expensive and was complelty tasteless and over cooked. Dripping in grease and oil. Only upside is the staff are very friendly and pleasant.

Music was very loud making it hard to hear ,when chatting ,I found it difficult to find something I liked on the menu

Went for a few drinks after work. The bar staff are all really nice and helpful, especially a young Polish lad! Very knowledgeable and made our night fun. The place is lovely and hopefully will be back soon!

I have popped into the news room twice now while visiting Edinburgh, and on both occasions, I have found the staff were great happy to help always happy, the food was delicious came out rather fast considering how busy it was well presented. The atmosphere was lively and joyful to be fair for a busy place. Never a great wait to be served at the bar as they have plenty staff to cover all areas. Live singer was great while I way in, too, only got 45 minutes to listen due to trains, but he was good, and we all had a sing-along would recommend popping in either way.

Amazing food, big portions for a good price and very nice staff. The fries were as yummy as the waiter :)

The food was amazing and I absolutely loved the aesthetic!

Vast array of on tap beers to be had. I had the Bevertown - Neck Oil. Always a great choice. Other half had a gin and gingerbeer which was lovely too. Bit pricey but, to be expected with it being in the centre of town pretty much. Staff were really nice and friendly too.

Excellent Service Awesome Location the best Guinness Pie around... Whether you're local or a tourist this is a gem of a spot to taste a bit of Scotland!!! 👍👍🍺

It took a little time to get our food, but they had the best fish & chips we had during the entire two weeks in the UK.

Not somewhere I'd go again. Food was just ok. Service was just ok. Nothing to write home about. If you need some American styled Scottish food this might be a good place to start.

When first arriving no one was there. No bartender, no service help. Ten minutes later they come walking in from behind the bar. Not very helpful when ordering but it got done. Food was great and the service went to eleven once the young man with the mustache showed up.

Had a great time at the newsroom. Delicious breakfast but even better hospital. Claire was very friendly and thanks for recommending the Baileys latte. We loved it ! Will visit again

Beckie served us and was brilliant. Friendly and really good customer service.

Good atmosphere, although too noisy. We had salads and pita bread. Quite regular, but that's the Scottish average.

The food was expensive, very salty and otherwise tasteless. We didn’t finish our meals. The soup of the day is the only dish I can recommend. The service was very good, the atmosphere was lovely and fun. Maybe come for a drink, but I wouldn’t recommend staying for dinner.

Most enjoyable evening at the Newsroom. Met at the door by our host Beckie who showed us to our table and served us with drinks before helping us with our order. The food was top class and totally enjoyable as was their Guinness. Thanks Beckie and the Newsroom staff

Loved this place just had drinks

Delicious breakfast here!!! The Lorne sausage, black pudding and haggis were cooked wonderfully. Nicely decorated inside with a fun menu. Great place to stop and grab a bite to eat.

This pub was easy walking distance from our hotel and easy to Turn book a table online. Key is to book a day ahead as online times are limited. It's very noisy. Layout spacious so you dont feel squeezed in Unbelievable between tables. Food options were somewhat limited but our meals arrived quickly and were hot. Steak pie was very salty. Chicken gyro rather plain. The service was really good. Server very friendly and efficient Price points fair. Might be fun with a group of friends but not for a couples night out dinner due to the noise.

The Newsroom's burgers are big, juicy and delicious. The chips are good, as is the beer. Millie, my server, was friendly, fast, and efficient - in short, awesome. I'd definitely eat/go for drinks here again next time I'm in Edinburgh.

This place used to be one of my favourite places to come when out for food and drinks in Edinburgh. However, I visited here yesterday and feel it has went down hill. The prices have increased substantially, which I get everything's going up but think their prices are too high. ordered food, and it was horrible. Nachos like cardboard, chips freezing along with onion rings also freezing. Wouldn't recommend this place for eating. There are a lot more nicer and cheaper places around. Staff member serving us was lovely tho woman with blonde hair very cheerful. Was hard to get a simple smile out of the others.

We were looking for a place to have dinner after 8-8:30 p.m. in the neighborhood and finally entered this pub which welcomed us in a friendly manner. Basic pub food without frills (fish’n chips, burger, salad, etc.). Quite strong musical atmosphere but not unpleasant. A little disappointed by the choice of draft beer (Heineken, Amstel, English beers). Note that from 9 p.m., the menu is reduced

Lovely bar , very attentive staff. We had cocktails and lunch. The food was good but the fish and chips came on a plate with a piece of paper underneath the food which ended up greasy and soggy and became difficult to avoid eating. Music thumping in background meant we struggled to hear what the staff said and made conversation difficult with my friends.

Very good food. We ordered hamburgers and they were exquisite. At night very pleasant with singers that give a fun atmosphere.

We ate the fish and chips and the fish was nicely fried but they forgot the salt on both the chips and the fish😲. Also it is way overpriced at 19£ for fish and chips. Another thing was that the ordering app is just annoying. We like the more traditional way with a waiter. I think it is nice if you just want to hang out and drink drinks. 👍

Kitchen last call 21:00. 20:45 they told us we can’t order food and the waitress stops to the table next to us to take their order for BURGER AND FRIES. Better not go… rude people , dirty-sticky tables …

12 quid just for a hot dog, no chips! To be fair, it was tasty. However, I left my drink at the bar to go to the toilet, not there when I returned.

A hidden gem in Edinburgh. For a better experience, do try the downstairs part of the restaurant. Amazing food, atmosphere and service.

Food was great except way, way too much tomato ketchup on Steak Sandwich, hence only 4*. Ketchup on the side would have got a 5*. Hamish the server was good.

I come here reasonably often as you can always rely on good beer, excellent service and the food is great. Also Music on a Friday and Saturday. It's a little pricey but it is in a premium spot. Had the Beef almighty burger with Fries and onion rings today. Burger was good, meat cooked to well done - I prefer mine a little pink but understand why restaurants cook to well done. Peppery pastrami, just needed a pickle to finish it off! Onion rings were thick and tasty. The batter was perfect, you can tell when the oil has been changed and these were crispy, light and sweet.

Had the haddock, unfortunately poorly filleted so I had to remove the batter to extract the bones. Bass of the music was turned up to nightclub level during a dinner sitting which was a pity because the 90s music was good. The soup was really nice, as were the desserts. The drinks and service were perfectly acceptable and what I would accept. I was annoyed that the "optional" service charge was shown on the bill as optional however I was never asked if I wished to pay it before it was charged to my credit card... If I had been asked I probably would have said yes, however I should have been asked.

The staff here are out of this world. The drinks are great and the food is incredible. The staff was very accommodating to us (party of 6) and we went multiple times during our stay in Edinburgh, and each time they were very kind and personable. Loved the service and the atmosphere!

Drinks are hugely overpriced. You can find half priced drinks just a few blocks away in Leith walk or Leithwalk. Tourist trap.

The Newsroom is a great spot for drinks and food, Millie was a brilliant server and very friendly. Amazing food, drinks and atmosphere!

Staff are absolutely incredible especially mathew the door man was very professional and caring towards people I had personal issues which he dealt with in a very swift and professional manner and I also observed him doing glass collecting which I’ve worked in bars and clubs and never seen a door man do this ever. He was very impressive and professional as where all staff during my visit and I will return the atmosphere was very friendly and brilliant fun. Look forward to my next visit also Stevie m who did the music was brilliant too please make sure mathew gets a praise he deserves it for his help throught my visit thank you to the amazing bar staff also especially mark too

We had a fee drinks while waiting on my son's girlfriend and met two ladies from Baillieston who were going to the Theatre and had a lovely time just chatting. Very friendly and great atmosphere Will visit again and may have a meal next time.

Amazing food. I got the haggis dish that came with mashed potatoes and sweet potato chips on top, it was flavored very nicely. Try their haggis!! The lime cider is really good too. They also have ranch which i had with my onion rings😊
