Disgusting service! Crappy food! Ordered Affogato and Chef’s garlic bread, both of which were nowhere close to what the items should be. The Affogato was a joke, just a weak coffee shot with ice cream served separately. The menu said it comes with Biscoff which was not served. The garlic bread was just pieces of toasted bread with no garlic butter on it. On pointing this out to the server she said the butter had ‘melted’ on the bread hence not visible whereas the bread was as dry as sandpaper. I asked for some garlic butter separately. After a 20 minute wait, during which at no time did she even bother to provide an update, I got up to leave and she said the new order of garlic bread was ready. Not sure if both the server girls are illiterate or don’t understand English. Highly racist place, # Bad Food and bad Service # Avoid at all costs

Loved the chilli beef nachos on our first visit so had to go back again, to try the haggis nachos (which were even better!) Food took a little longer on second visit (was busy!), but offered us a free drink before we said a word. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. We will be back!

Found the Newsroom by accident after exiting Waverley and looking for somewhere to kill a couple of hours before meeting up with family. Pleasant surroundings, friendly staff and a great play list. I had the gf burger (menu had plenty of gf options) which was great and an improvement on standard pub fare. Will definitely return and can recommend especially for coeliacs.

How about you serve the people at the bar as well instead of only serving QR code table orders. Stood at the bar (the only one at the bar) like an idiot for 5 minutes without even an acknowledgment. All bar staff too afraid to make eye contact ? Good beer, garbage service from the 3 blokes there.

Booked a table last min and Ryan could not of been more helpful he was amazing, we came in with friends for drinks and food, the management here have done amazing, a huge shout out to Becky H who made us feel so welcome and who kindly got us a table down stairs to enjoy the Jackson tailor experience, in all a great time, food was great, atmosphere was awesome. Ryan and Becky a credit to this establishment for sure

Really tasty food and friendly service. We had the Haggis Neeps and Tatties, the Soup and Sandwich deal, soup of the day was mushroom, and we chose a BLT sandwich, both were delicious. So good we ordered another BLT. The haggis was really good too. We also had Affogato and the Sticky Toffee for dessert. Again very tasty. Everything was reasonably priced too! Will come again when I'm next in Edinburgh and highly recommend to all.

Went for breakfast as we trusted the ratings. We ordered the veggie breakfast and the Greek yogurt waffle, we were waiting for 45 minutes for the food. When it arrived we noticed that the waffle was not homemade but like shop bought, it was cold and not fresh at all. Staff were friendly but had to remind them multiple times of our order.

Ordered food from wait staff, and an hour later told one of the meals, which was on the menu, is no longer offered. Atleast they covered the 2 soft drinks we had during the hour wait to be told they had not started cooking anything.

The food is of good quality, however the dishes are a little expensive for the quantity (sandwich without accompaniments for example). And the service is non-existent. No reception, no cutlery, no water, and it’s up to us to order. It's not a bad restaurant but the service and helpfulness can be improved!

Visited as a group of 10 for a work catch up before Christmas but will not be visiting again in a hurry. The atmosphere and the venue were lovely however the food left a lot to be desired. There is no alternative menus for people with food allergies and intolerances - somebody that I asked said he would tell me what I could have and listed off multiple things that I clearly could not have. Opted for a burger to be safe with multiple things removed whilst another person in the group ordered the original burger. Long wait for food and 2 people had to return theirs as the food had clearly been sat and was stone cold whilst only 1 burger was brought out which we were told had cheese on and so was given to the person ordering the original burger (I am unable to eat dairy and have an allergy to tomato's). We then had to chase a further 3 times and wait over 20minutes for the 2nd burger to be brought out only for both the burgers to be the amended burger. By this point we just ate the food but a really disappointing experience and not somewhere I would feel safe to eat again. I would say there was a young gentleman who took our orders and was his first shift and he was extremely polite and helpful.

Might be the best food that we had the 5 days We were in scotland, and the five days we were in london. The chicken was not overcooked. Needs more seasoning. Same thing i said everywhere, but you can add seasoning. I'm cajun, so nothing ever really has enough seizing. I travel With seasoning. Toney travel pack, ha. But if you're coming from the United States, I definitely recommend it. If you're not from louisiana, you won't even notice the seasoning. Because I feel the same way about every state here other than ours. I said no. They did tell me there was a speakeasy in there, but i had my kid with me. If I were to go back, this would be one of the only restaurants I would go again to. Also I went late november and it was beautifully christmas decorated.

Amazing Quiz, one of the best I've ever done

Certainly deteriorated since Mr Ripley (Ants) previous manager left. The Tacos we had were congealed and cold. Tried to lift one of the Tacos and the whole serving came away from plate. All food served was cold. No apologies from staff when we complained. Really disappointed.

Was drinks only. Busy for a Tuesday night, served very quickly.

Dropped in a couple of times during our recent trip to Edinburgh. Lovely atmosphere - staff, food and drinks were all great: particularly liked their Bloody Marys and their Newsroom Nachos (with haggis and pepper sauce)! Would definitely visit again.

Came in on Saturday to have a few drinks and a meal with friends. My server Ellie was polite, attentive, respectful and a friendly member of staff. She provided excellent service. Would come again.

It’s a great place to get some food and drinks. I very much enjoyed the bartenders energy. We was severed by a young lady called Ellie who was very bubbly and recommend a lot of our drinks for us. Would definitely be returning.

You wouldn’t wanna be hungry during a quiet spell. Super slow service. A portion of chips took over 45 minutes to come. Over priced too.

Went this morning for breakfast, the breakfast was decent but the haggis wasn’t great at all. Ordered some toast and it was just sliced bread, and the flat white was just a very poor white coffee from a machine. 2 people £38 very disappointing

Great little bar, cozy, and with live music!

An excellent spot for a pint and a meal, particularly if you are heading to the Playhouse for a show. I enjoyed some of the best haggis of my trip, and a delicious espresso martini. This spot is a balance of trendy and cozy, a perfect spot for a dinner on a night out!

Excellent food and service from staff

Great place for breakfast and a Guinness or cocktail especially if you're getting the train. Update: still great, still excellent service and Guinness. The music is not to my taste but it's not too loud to be annoying and I understand it fits the theme.

This is a great bar for a chilled night during the week. Perfect for date nights or catch ups with your friends.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at the Newsroom in Edinburgh and Olivia P was such a superstar!! We ended up having an absolute blast just following her recommendations and it ended up being one of the highlights of our time in this beautiful city. Average bar in town, expensive and busy

This place was packed on a Saturday night, but they still found us a small table to have a nice dinner. The staff was wonderful even though they were so busy, and we had a great time. Definitely try the Steak n' Guinness Pie!

Great service, good breakfast food and lovely coffee. Brilliant music which wasn’t too loud and made great ambience

This is a very busy bar in the evenings. We were lucky as they found us a space for 2. My husband ordered the Steakn Guinness pie and said it was very good, I had the fish and chips which we fairly good , a bit greasy . The staff were attentive and friendly but very busy. Great location for us as we were staying at the Roomzzz hotel across the street.

Barely finished our meal when a reserved sign got slapped down on our table! There was already a sign saying it was “reserved at 1815, please feel free to use the table til then”, so the table should have been considered occupied by us until then. Very disappointing as we had planned to have another couple of drinks before catching the train. Will definitely not be back. How can you relax and enjoy yourself with the threat you might get turfed out of your table. This was the managers decision, apparently this is acceptable to them, so the 2 are for the rest of the staff who were very friendly.

Olivia P was honestly was the most welcoming and brilliant server, I felt like VIP. I would 100% come here again for the service x

Came into a table with a reserved sign til 6.15 pm at half two thought thats great have a decent enough time for a catch up and few drinks but as soon as we put our forks down they slapped a reserved at 16.00pm sign down in front of us after a mediocre meal had to ask for chips to go with the fish and though bit weird and the steak pie was just warm enough not to put in a complaint but was decent enough .. a lovely pub but service and food below average ..

Prices are absaloutly extortionate. The food is expensive and was complelty tasteless and over cooked. Dripping in grease and oil. Only upside is the staff are very friendly and pleasant.

Music was very loud making it hard to hear ,when chatting ,I found it difficult to find something I liked on the menu

Went for a few drinks after work. The bar staff are all really nice and helpful, especially a young Polish lad! Very knowledgeable and made our night fun. The place is lovely and hopefully will be back soon!

I have popped into the news room twice now while visiting Edinburgh, and on both occasions, I have found the staff were great happy to help always happy, the food was delicious came out rather fast considering how busy it was well presented. The atmosphere was lively and joyful to be fair for a busy place. Never a great wait to be served at the bar as they have plenty staff to cover all areas. Live singer was great while I way in, too, only got 45 minutes to listen due to trains, but he was good, and we all had a sing-along would recommend popping in either way.

Vast array of on tap beers to be had. I had the Bevertown - Neck Oil. Always a great choice. Other half had a gin and gingerbeer which was lovely too. Bit pricey but, to be expected with it being in the centre of town pretty much. Staff were really nice and friendly too.

It took a little time to get our food, but they had the best fish & chips we had during the entire two weeks in the UK.

Not somewhere I'd go again. Food was just ok. Service was just ok. Nothing to write home about. If you need some American styled Scottish food this might be a good place to start.

When first arriving no one was there. No bartender, no service help. Ten minutes later they come walking in from behind the bar. Not very helpful when ordering but it got done. Food was great and the service went to eleven once the young man with the mustache showed up.

Had a great time at the newsroom. Delicious breakfast but even better hospital. Claire was very friendly and thanks for recommending the Baileys latte. We loved it ! Will visit again

The food was expensive, very salty and otherwise tasteless. We didn’t finish our meals. The soup of the day is the only dish I can recommend. The service was very good, the atmosphere was lovely and fun. Maybe come for a drink, but I wouldn’t recommend staying for dinner.

A must if you're visiting Edinburgh. Great atmosphere, food and service, and so close to the station and city centre.

Delicious breakfast here!!! The Lorne sausage, black pudding and haggis were cooked wonderfully. Nicely decorated inside with a fun menu. Great place to stop and grab a bite to eat.

The food was delicious , lovely atmosphere, Eleanok was great. Over all a nice experience, Would love to come back here again.

This pub was easy walking distance from our hotel and easy to Turn book a table online. Key is to book a day ahead as online times are limited. It's very noisy. Layout spacious so you dont feel squeezed in Unbelievable between tables. Food options were somewhat limited but our meals arrived quickly and were hot. Steak pie was very salty. Chicken gyro rather plain. The service was really good. Server very friendly and efficient Price points fair. Might be fun with a group of friends but not for a couples night out dinner due to the noise.

We were looking for a place to have dinner after 8-8:30 p.m. in the neighborhood and finally entered this pub which welcomed us in a friendly manner. Basic pub food without frills (fish’n chips, burger, salad, etc.). Quite strong musical atmosphere but not unpleasant. A little disappointed by the choice of draft beer (Heineken, Amstel, English beers). Note that from 9 p.m., the menu is reduced

The Newsroom's burgers are big, juicy and delicious. The chips are good, as is the beer. Millie, my server, was friendly, fast, and efficient - in short, awesome. I'd definitely eat/go for drinks here again next time I'm in Edinburgh.
