The newsroom has a warm atmosphere and wonderful stuff, with amazing fpod and drinks. Our amazing server beckie was welcoming and attentive

Had dinner and a few beers. Booked a table, otherwise would have been waiting. Fish and chips Were “OK”. Wife had Mac and cheese that was good. Had Beaverton Gamma Ray and one of my favorites, Neck Oil

Came to Newsroom by chance because they were serving food at 3pm unlike others in the area. Sat outside and had excellent bar bites with a beer and a wine. Sean from the bar was delightful, happy to make suggestions and to make us feel welcome. The mozzarella sticks with Chutney were a favorite. Delicious and not at all greast.

We called in tho morning to book a table, on the phone they said no reservations needed. We saw the pub and walked in 5 hours before and again they said no reservations needed for the pub quiz. We entered the pub 2 hours before the quiz and were stopped with the explanations no free tables although we saw many tables with reservation sign. Would never come back for sure.

Spent almost £40 on a pint of lager (which was £8), a glass of prosecco, a tiny portion of chips, soup and a pretzel. The staff were nice but wasn't happy that they applied an 'optional tip' to the bill - which I personally didn't feel was warranted to be honest, all they did was pour a couple of drinks and put a few starters on the table. Took quite a while to get the starters too. Way way overpriced Vs the portion sizes and quality.

Seen this place around and finally went in last night after a movie and I will be back! Everyone in service is lovely, I had the pleasure of being serviced by a lovely girl charlotte who made a great raspberry mule! Can absolutely recommend, cozy vibes, nice people and great drinks!

Didn't eat here just drank. Service is slow they don't kill themselves behind the bar that's for sure! I also feel you are better sticking to wine beer and bottles as the vodka must be watered down. I had 8 vodkas a bottle of cider and 2 shots but was fine and felt fine the next day. Something isn't right here. The atmosphere is good in here especially if you are watching the rugby or something like that. They also have good love music on Saturday night

Where do I start? I came here last week, I have been a few times however, this time I was left disappointed. The cider and the oven fired pizza was actually very nice! But what let me down the most was the service. The young girl who served me at the bar was disinterested and quite rude! First of all, we were not served for quite some time after standing at the empty bar waiting. She started taking our order, and then mid way through she started talking to her friends sat on the bar?! The service here has never been the best but this let us down.

I don’t normally write reviews but this place is 5 out of 5! Amazing food, amazing prices, amazing service.

Atmosphere and service was spectacular, especially from the incredibly courteous and engaging Ben C, who made sure I was well taken care of with regards to drinks and conversation. Ben C deserves all the raises and all the praise in the world, and I will definitely be back because of him.

Had great fun on Thursday quiz night arrived early and was severed by the lovely bartender Ben C made me a great cocktail unfortunately finished as the quiz started but the rest of the staff were lovely too.

Ben C served us again tonight! Me and my friend came for the quiz and he served the most delicious cocktails and is always so kind behind the bar!

First time, No.14 bus, food great, staff friendly, Eleanor exceptional, would recommend to Gran. I can honestly say I have never tasted more iron in a Guinness apart from when I was In Sweden.

Came here for a couple drinks, I was served by Claire who was an absolute doll, kind, sweet, and very welcoming. She definitely convinced me to come back in the future! Beer and food were absolutely fantastic.

What a great restaurant where we tasted Haggis for the first time and it was delicious. I recommend. Our waiter, Sean, was really polite and kind. The prices are really correct.

Sean was such a friendly. Welcoming and happy Barman. Very good and evident that he likes his job. Attention to detail and his cocktails were delicious. Yum slaying !!!!!!!

The experience was ruined by a terrible service, the place was half empty and yet 20 min and no one bothered even though I've asked twice at the bar and asked if I can order right then, but was told someone will come over... extremely disappointing first experience. I would have walked out if it wasn't for other people joining at this place.

I hate to leave negative reviews because I’m incredibly understanding but I could not help it with this establishment. I also want to mention that the staff was very apologetic after our experience. When we arrived, we waited roughly 20 minutes for a waiter to come to the table so we placed our order right away. We waited over 40 minutes with no drink refills and no updates. Finally, someone from the waitstaff came over and apologized for taking so long with our food and that they would not charge us due to the large wait. The food was not very good and my husband found two long hairs in his fries, so we were a bit grossed out. We tried to flag someone down to close out but waited another 15-20 minutes until we got up to go to the bar to close out our bill. If you’re going for drinks, not bad but I would not recommend any food based on this experience.

A great bar with friendly staff. Standard Edinburgh for prices for the city centre. Good atmosphere every time I have visited. Edit: 3 years later, still great staff, still awesome, still a great place to grab a drink. Only thing I would love is for them to go back to the old haggis fritters.

First time visiting Scotland from the states and ended up finding the Newsroom. Absolutely loved the atmosphere of the bar. Sean was our bartender and gave amazing recommendations on things to do and see while in Edinburgh. Would definitely recommend making a stop at the Newsroom and getting a cocktail from Sean

Loved the chilli beef nachos on our first visit so had to go back again, to try the haggis nachos (which were even better!) Food took a little longer on second visit (was busy!), but offered us a free drink before we said a word. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. We will be back!

Disgusting service! Crappy food! Ordered Affogato and Chef’s garlic bread, both of which were nowhere close to what the items should be. The Affogato was a joke, just a weak coffee shot with ice cream served separately. The menu said it comes with Biscoff which was not served. The garlic bread was just pieces of toasted bread with no garlic butter on it. On pointing this out to the server she said the butter had ‘melted’ on the bread hence not visible whereas the bread was as dry as sandpaper. I asked for some garlic butter separately. After a 20 minute wait, during which at no time did she even bother to provide an update, I got up to leave and she said the new order of garlic bread was ready. Not sure if both the server girls are illiterate or don’t understand English. Highly racist place, # Bad Food and bad Service # Avoid at all costs

How about you serve the people at the bar as well instead of only serving QR code table orders. Stood at the bar (the only one at the bar) like an idiot for 5 minutes without even an acknowledgment. All bar staff too afraid to make eye contact ? Good beer, garbage service from the 3 blokes there.

Found the Newsroom by accident after exiting Waverley and looking for somewhere to kill a couple of hours before meeting up with family. Pleasant surroundings, friendly staff and a great play list. I had the gf burger (menu had plenty of gf options) which was great and an improvement on standard pub fare. Will definitely return and can recommend especially for coeliacs.

Booked a table last min and Ryan could not of been more helpful he was amazing, we came in with friends for drinks and food, the management here have done amazing, a huge shout out to Becky H who made us feel so welcome and who kindly got us a table down stairs to enjoy the Jackson tailor experience, in all a great time, food was great, atmosphere was awesome. Ryan and Becky a credit to this establishment for sure

Really tasty food and friendly service. We had the Haggis Neeps and Tatties, the Soup and Sandwich deal, soup of the day was mushroom, and we chose a BLT sandwich, both were delicious. So good we ordered another BLT. The haggis was really good too. We also had Affogato and the Sticky Toffee for dessert. Again very tasty. Everything was reasonably priced too! Will come again when I'm next in Edinburgh and highly recommend to all.

Went for breakfast as we trusted the ratings. We ordered the veggie breakfast and the Greek yogurt waffle, we were waiting for 45 minutes for the food. When it arrived we noticed that the waffle was not homemade but like shop bought, it was cold and not fresh at all. Staff were friendly but had to remind them multiple times of our order.

Ordered food from wait staff, and an hour later told one of the meals, which was on the menu, is no longer offered. Atleast they covered the 2 soft drinks we had during the hour wait to be told they had not started cooking anything.

The food is of good quality, however the dishes are a little expensive for the quantity (sandwich without accompaniments for example). And the service is non-existent. No reception, no cutlery, no water, and it’s up to us to order. It's not a bad restaurant but the service and helpfulness can be improved!

Visited as a group of 10 for a work catch up before Christmas but will not be visiting again in a hurry. The atmosphere and the venue were lovely however the food left a lot to be desired. There is no alternative menus for people with food allergies and intolerances - somebody that I asked said he would tell me what I could have and listed off multiple things that I clearly could not have. Opted for a burger to be safe with multiple things removed whilst another person in the group ordered the original burger. Long wait for food and 2 people had to return theirs as the food had clearly been sat and was stone cold whilst only 1 burger was brought out which we were told had cheese on and so was given to the person ordering the original burger (I am unable to eat dairy and have an allergy to tomato's). We then had to chase a further 3 times and wait over 20minutes for the 2nd burger to be brought out only for both the burgers to be the amended burger. By this point we just ate the food but a really disappointing experience and not somewhere I would feel safe to eat again. I would say there was a young gentleman who took our orders and was his first shift and he was extremely polite and helpful.

Might be the best food that we had the 5 days We were in scotland, and the five days we were in london. The chicken was not overcooked. Needs more seasoning. Same thing i said everywhere, but you can add seasoning. I'm cajun, so nothing ever really has enough seizing. I travel With seasoning. Toney travel pack, ha. But if you're coming from the United States, I definitely recommend it. If you're not from louisiana, you won't even notice the seasoning. Because I feel the same way about every state here other than ours. I said no. They did tell me there was a speakeasy in there, but i had my kid with me. If I were to go back, this would be one of the only restaurants I would go again to. Also I went late november and it was beautifully christmas decorated.

Amazing Quiz, one of the best I've ever done

Certainly deteriorated since Mr Ripley (Ants) previous manager left. The Tacos we had were congealed and cold. Tried to lift one of the Tacos and the whole serving came away from plate. All food served was cold. No apologies from staff when we complained. Really disappointed.

You wouldn’t wanna be hungry during a quiet spell. Super slow service. A portion of chips took over 45 minutes to come. Over priced too.

Went this morning for breakfast, the breakfast was decent but the haggis wasn’t great at all. Ordered some toast and it was just sliced bread, and the flat white was just a very poor white coffee from a machine. 2 people £38 very disappointing

Great little bar, cozy, and with live music!

An excellent spot for a pint and a meal, particularly if you are heading to the Playhouse for a show. I enjoyed some of the best haggis of my trip, and a delicious espresso martini. This spot is a balance of trendy and cozy, a perfect spot for a dinner on a night out!

Great place for breakfast and a Guinness or cocktail especially if you're getting the train. Update: still great, still excellent service and Guinness. The music is not to my taste but it's not too loud to be annoying and I understand it fits the theme.

The food and barbecue were subpar, literally dripping in fat, and the taste was below average. Facilities and service were good.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at the Newsroom in Edinburgh and Olivia P was such a superstar!! We ended up having an absolute blast just following her recommendations and it ended up being one of the highlights of our time in this beautiful city. If you’re in the area and are craving some good food and quality whiskey you need to go to Newsroom and ask for Olivia P. We are definitely stopping by again next time we’re in magical Edinburgh. Average bar in town, expensive and busy

This place was packed on a Saturday night, but they still found us a small table to have a nice dinner. The staff was wonderful even though they were so busy, and we had a great time. Definitely try the Steak n' Guinness Pie!

This is a very busy bar in the evenings. We were lucky as they found us a space for 2. My husband ordered the Steakn Guinness pie and said it was very good, I had the fish and chips which we fairly good , a bit greasy . The staff were attentive and friendly but very busy. Great location for us as we were staying at the Roomzzz hotel across the street.

Barely finished our meal when a reserved sign got slapped down on our table! There was already a sign saying it was “reserved at 1815, please feel free to use the table til then”, so the table should have been considered occupied by us until then. Very disappointing as we had planned to have another couple of drinks before catching the train. Will definitely not be back. How can you relax and enjoy yourself with the threat you might get turfed out of your table. This was the managers decision, apparently this is acceptable to them, so the 2 are for the rest of the staff who were very friendly.

Came into a table with a reserved sign til 6.15 pm at half two thought thats great have a decent enough time for a catch up and few drinks but as soon as we put our forks down they slapped a reserved at 16.00pm sign down in front of us after a mediocre meal had to ask for chips to go with the fish and though bit weird and the steak pie was just warm enough not to put in a complaint but was decent enough .. a lovely pub but service and food below average ..
