Great food, glad I don't have the kids though as the rather aggressive guy at the bar swears every other word whilst describing the people he has threatened. Also don't appreciate his second hand vaping fumes

Good food. Good service. We had the vegetarian breakfast and was feeling ‘picky’. I asked if they can swap a piece of toast for baked beans (in fact I got 2 pcs) and hubby did the same. We were given what we requested by a friendly waitress. Also, the coffee was good!

We visited this lovely pub for lunch whilst on holiday The service & food were excellent I can highly recommend the fish & chips to say the portions were large is an understatement my husband had chicken stuffed with haggis he said it was excellent as was the beer I really can’t recommend this pub highly enough we will certainly visit next time we’re in Edinburgh

Just called in for a couple of breakfast rolls. Food was really good, fresh and high quality. Waiter was really pleasant and helpful. Will visit again when next in Edinburgh.

Great food at a great price! We had Haggis Neeps and tatties, and a Sloppy Cowboy burger followed by a deep fried Mars bar. Food was really reasonably priced for the portion size. (£11 each and £4.5 for a pudding) and the service was great. Very covid safe bar and the food was great.

Dropped in on the off-chance of something to eat. Was greatly surprised at the menu selection. Service was fast and efficient, food was plentiful and exceptionally well cooked. Staff pleasent and obliging. Holidaying from London at the time.

We stopped here for some lunch. We loved the decor inside, although the lighting very poor it fitted in well with the feel of the place. We ordered some cocktails and they were lovely. We then had chicken and mash and he had the steak and guineas pie. The food was flavoursome and hot. We had to try the deep fried Mars bar too which was yummy. Our waitress Danni was lovely also. Will definitely be back

Friendly, efficient young man served us and we both thoroughly enjoyed breakfast - one was meat-based and one vegetarian. Clean throughout. Not too fond of high seating, but that is a personal quirk!

I fully appreciate lockdown has really hurt the hospitality industry, but such angry, unhappy staff serving drinks, it makes it very unwelcoming. The drinks were great though, we didn’t bother staying for food after the bar man sighed at 2/3 customers after they were making orders and one wanted to change drinks before he had even poured them. Shane because this is a funky place in a great location.

Perfect hangover breakfast! Me and my friends visited after a night in Edinburgh and the food was amazing! My friends had breakfast baps which looked so good, and I would recommend the veggie breakfast, the veggie haggis was delish. Friendly staff, nice vibe, would return!

Excellent food with generous proportions. The menu is varied and unusual and the attention and service from the staff was outstanding. The whole place had a really modern feel to it. We will come back again.

Fantastic service! After arriving in Edinburgh we stopped here for a quick drink and quickly decided to book a table for dinner. The decor is amazing, the staff have such an amazing attitude and Bruce was so funny. The food was delicious and the portions are very generous! Would 100% visit again and recommend for a great meal or just a couple of cocktails!

Stopped off with my wife for a snack and a few drinks, got seated no issues, then sat and sat, tried waving down the staff a few times with no luck, after about 10 minutes it became a running joke about us being ignored, watched other people being seated and having there orders taken. My wife then went to the toilet under the old joke of ‘I bet you get served while I’m not here’ sadly not. StillNot served, she came back and tried to get someone’s attention herself, eventually after about 20 minutes of trying to flag someone down we decided to just get up and go, that was the first time anyone paid us any attention, our only poor experience in Edinburgh

Greeted with a big smile and quickly shown to a table. Order and drink swiftly taken and delivered. Bruce on the floor with a charm like no other accommodated for my Tequila needs. All round great spot, lovely staff. Highly recommend 👌🏽

Found this bar while walking around Edinburgh on a raining Tuesday. Were greeted promptly and seated quickly with no reservation. Service was quick and friendly. Bruce looked after is ensuring that we didn't wait for drinks. The food was fantastic. Fresh hot and good potion sizes. Very reasonably price. I will be sure to recommend to visitors to the city

Just stopped for breakfast and was delighted. We had a breakfast bap each (my partner actually had two, but not because they were small, he's just a hungry lad!), mine with veggie sausage and his with sausage, bacon and egg. They were really tasty! More than that, though, the service from Gregor was excellent, very fun. It's so lovely to have your enthusiasm matched when you're on holiday! Would definitely return, for an evening drink next time!

Just popped in for breakfast and had the best bacon roll ever. Cappuccino and the service was very good too. Main menu looked good, will definitely return when next in Edinburgh.

We visited this bar/eatery 4 times during our stay in Edinburgh our 1st dinner was about 7ish Monday evening not busy so able to eat without booking our server was a very bright chatty young man who made sure we had everything we needed, we had the haggis mashed potato and neeps this meal was delicious and highly recommend it to visitor’s to Edinburgh we had sticky toffee pudding which we had to take away not as impressed with this seemed more like a muffin with toffee sauce on it.1st breakfast was the frying Scotsman 7.50 for a very nice Scottish breakfast we ordered 3 teas which on the menu is described as a pot of tea we received a cup of tea 2.00 for a pot of tea is fair 2.00 for a cup of tea is excessive anyway we didn’t know until we got the bill that the cost of a cup of tea was the same as a pot of tea until we got the bill and we had ordered 2nd teas. 2nd dinner was steak and Guinness pie with mash and seasonal veg which was again very nice meal generous servings and we had cheese cake dessert to take away which was very nice.2nd breakfast was again frying Scotsman another generous serving of delicious Scottish breakfast this time thanks to our lovely lady server we got pots of tea without prompting which gave us two cups of tea for half the price of the day before.We enjoyed the food, it was tasty and well presented we would definitely recommend and even visit again on our next trip, just watch out when you order tea to get the pot they offer on the menu and not the cups we were presented with could save yourselves £6,00 we may have been living in Manchester for 40 odd years but as a true Scot we like to get value for money.

Estuve aquí antes como una semana antes y lo pasé muy bien, una comida encantadora y un personal encantador, por eso decidimos ir de nuevo, Dios mío, qué cambio, especialmente con un miembro estúpido del personal, en primer lugar me desafiaron mientras caminaba al baño en cuanto a por qué no estaba usando una máscara, en plena voz de los clientes, como dije, estoy exento de ir al baño, de regreso a mi mesa para comer y este mismo ladrillo luego decidió preguntarle si podía ver mi tarjeta de exención después de explicarle que no había solicitado una porque nunca ha sido un problema, decidió decirme que debería obtener una. No olvide que estuvimos aquí una semana antes sin máscara ni problemas, y puedo agregar que no dice dónde dice que se debe usar o mostrar la máscara o la tarjeta de excepción en este local, definitivamente no regresaremos y con una tabla como esta en el frente de servicio al cliente este lugar no va a durar mucho más.

Mi novio y yo comimos aquí para nuestra primera noche ya que estaba cerca de nuestro hotel y ¡GUAU, qué manera de comenzar nuestras aventuras en Edimburgo! En primer lugar, todo el personal fue maravilloso, amable y no me puedo quejar. El bar en sí es muy acogedor y cálido y con una hermosa decoración. ¡Finalmente la comida y las bebidas eran INCREÍBLES! ! Tuve el pollo Balmoral y mi novio el Yorky Plucker y ambos estaban deliciosos. He comido pollo Balmoral antes y otros pubs y restaurantes, ¡pero este fue el mejor! ! ! ¡El pastel de dulce de chocolate de Alabama también fue increíble! ! 10/10 se lo recomendaría a cualquiera y definitivamente volveré en mi próxima visita. ! !

Waren hier am Montag, 10.08.20, Es gab die Aktion "Eat out to help out" Wir kannten sie noch nicht, da gerade erst angekommen. Bei der Essensquittung wurde die Vergünstigung vom Essen abgezogen. Dann wurde der volle Betrag beim Bezahlem mit der Kreditkarte aber doch berechnet. Wir haben uns gewundert und dachten, sie haben es vergessen, hatten wir auch erst nichr gemerkt. Dann beim nächsten Essen, aber schon weit entfernt, haben wir die Aktion mitbekommen. So werden der Gast und der Staat gelinkt, unsauber!

Both had a really nice cocktail, staff were great, and cool design inside. Would definitely come again.

Really enjoyed my visit here, the food selection was excellent and the bar was clean and had good Covid measures in place. The staff were very friendly and the prices were not bad for Edinburgh. Would deffo go back.

Had some lovely cocktails in the bar on a visit this week. Service slightly slow but that was because staff were taking every measure to be safe. Lady that served us was so apologetic and lovely. Great bar and drinks

Intenté reservar para comer fuera para ayudar en la oferta, pero me dijeron que estaba completamente lleno y que solo apareciera y ver si había mesas disponibles, así que lo hicimos y tuvimos una comida fabulosa, compartiendo nachos para comenzar y luego mi esposo tuvo un hamburguesa y yo teníamos las costillas, ambas porciones estupendas, ambos tomamos shandy's helados que se convirtieron en un regalo en una noche cálida, el camarero fue muy amable y el servicio fue muy rápido, una decoración encantadora y los cócteles se veían geniales, definitivamente regresaría la próxima vez que visitemos Edimburgo, solo una advertencia durante el COVID, excepto en efectivo, pero no obtendrá ningún cambio, así que es mejor pagar con tarjeta.

Reservamos una mesa solo para bebidas y justo cuando llegamos, nos encantaron todas las luces. Todo era tan estético y el personal no podría haber sido mejor. La cerveza de costa a costa llamó la atención de mis amigos y me encantaron los diferentes cócteles (daiquiri de plátano en la foto). Un poco más caro que otros lugares de cócteles, pero vale la pena si no tienes un presupuesto limitado.

Encontramos este lugar porque estaba cerca de nuestro Holiday Inn y estamos muy contentos de haberlo hecho. La comida era increíble, teníamos fajitas y una hamburguesa y la jarra de cócteles para compartir era deliciosa y de gran valor. Definitivamente lo recomendaría a cualquiera: estaba realmente limpio y espaciado y todo el personal era encantador.

He estado yendo a este lugar durante más de dos años y he sido un poco flojo al escribir una reseña.Pero eso no quita el hecho de que este es uno de los mejores lugares del centro de Edimburgo para tomar una copa y relajarse.No puedo felicitar al personal del bar lo suficiente, siempre es amable y servicial. Lo dice todo, desde que estoy aquí, la rotación de personal ha sido muy baja. Esta barra obviamente hace algo bien.Por lo general, beben Guinness, que siempre es de primera categoría y la comida cuando ceno siempre es de un alto nivel por el dinero que se paga.Gracias a todos los que trabajan allí.

Hold the front page...We had come to the end of our 8 hours in this wonderful city, we had found ourselves outside of the main places to eat and were tired when we stumbled upon The Newsroom, from the moment we entered the staff couldn’t be more helpful. Great atmosphere, lovely grub and great value. I even made an error on my order and they didn’t charge me to change one of the ingredients. They were all very friendly and attentive staff. Fab end to a great day in Edinburgh.

Service, dinner and atmosphere was amazing! Mostly known for its amazing drinks and cocktails but the food lives up to that standard. I had a steak and Guinness pie, absolutely beautiful. The people were lovely and so welcoming. I really recommend going here whilst in Edinburgh!!!!!

stayed in edinburgh for 2 night and chose to eat here both nights. food was amazing.my hsband had steak pie and said it was the best he had ever had. i had a hot dog with chilli beef and some sort of tequila sauce.. delicious. staff very friendly and attentive. would go back here again without hesitation

Another place that I really enjoy when I visit the city. Nice food as well not only drinks. Sometimes they have live shows and games and customers take part as well. Evenings full of fun I would say.

Soy un local de Edimburgo y había pasado por este bar y restaurante muchas veces. Yo y un amigo decidimos prepararnos al aire libre, buscamos refugio de la lluvia y nos encontramos en la sala de redacción. En primer lugar, el personal era muy encantador, 10/10! La comida era excelente, tuve la ensalada de pollo cajún (menos de una ensalada y más de un plato de pollo / verduras fritas) y estaba realmente delicioso. Lo mejor de todo fueron sus cócteles! Sin duda lo recomendaría.

Buscando un lugar para almorzar, pasamos al azar al The Newsroom Bar de pasada. Muy gratamente sorprendido. Nos encantó la comida, el servicio y las bebidas. El curso de postres de Deep Fried Mars Bar fue de primera categoría, servido con helado y una salsa de caramelo y chocolate. ¡Tan bueno! ! Estar de vuelta. :)

Called in for lunch we weren’t disappointed ! I ordered the “big story burger” it was great, burger was lovely chips were perfect. Same goes for the other half she ordered the chicken burger and really enjoyed it. The service was excellent and the wait time was what you would expect for fresh food. Great value for money would definitely recommend.

Came across it while looking for another place for lunch and loved the welcoming atmosphere. It is a very busy place however and the staff runs around to serve customers. You can see the speed in which they move and can’t help but thinking that’s great but is it ok for a while shift? Staff is very friendly throughout although they brought us the bill without us having asked for it. That’s the minus point here, to feel rushed...The food is at good standards and more or less average standard and the selection of cocktails and drinks very good.I would come again.

The pub looked inviting from the street, one of the bar staff was quite rude, but the rest of staff were friendly , service was quick and Food was well presented, and tasty we had haggis fritters and breaded mushrooms to start followed by fajitas and scampi .

I booked an area of the bar for a private party - staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. I also organised a buffet - absolutely delighted with the amount and quality of food. Been here a few time before and never disappoints.

Absolutely disgusted with this place! Came up to Edinburgh for New Year and bought two bottles of Prosecco after the bells for my mum, brother and girlfriend & the barmaid who was collecting glasses knocked a full glass of Prosecco over my brother and told him to calm down & it wasn’t a big deal! It was all over his jeans and her attitude was a disgrace. What a cheek!

Before visiting the theatre nipped into the Newsroom for a quick bite to eat. Good variety of beers, good choices on the menu but not what you might call "good value". OK, its in the middle of the city but £7 for a half portion of nachos is, in my opinion, expensive. On saying that, my wife and I enjoyed all we had to eat.

Booked a table and turned up on Saturday night, unfortunately the curry and fish were off but the burger and scampi which came more than made up for it. I had the fajitas, first time ordered them in a restaurant, OMG, they were just like I make them at home albeit a wee bit spicier but the food was amazing. Followed our mains up with a shared waffle dessert which hit the spot and topped off with a glass of wine and the best waiter who was extremely apologetic about the finished food but equally attentive to us. Very reasonable priced and a really interesting bar to sit in and soak up the décor.

Popped in over Christmas. Lovely decor, friendly staff and I can recommend the nachos with haggis and pepper sauce, proper dirty food. Glad we walked in and will definitely be back

As a family of five adults we agreed to meet friends here on a Monday evening. We decided to eat here before we met up with our friends.

Southern United States meets Scotland! Proper tea with an Alabama chocolate cake - yes! We had brats. One with chili and another with bbq chicken. Tasty, filling and well priced!

Great food reasonably priced. Potions are massive. Great meal for 2. Cocktails fabulous and a great range of beers. Will definately return!

Stopped here for drinks. Frankly, just an ok pub. Most of the tables facing the Leith Walk seemed to be reserved. Sat at the bar, which was not very comfortable. Staff was friendly, but not impressed with much else. Possibly you will have a better experience, but I doubt I will visit again.

Booked this place online, for a special family occasion, not realising that on arrival it was more of a 'pub' than a 'restaurant'. Having said that, the food was awesome and the service was great. We even tried the 'quiz' after our meal, but failed spectacularly haha. Great atmosphere and will definately return next time we are in Edinburgh.

We had a quick meal here whilst waiting for a train. The table service is good - attentive bad friendly. The food is simple, reasonable and good value for money. Looks like a good place to go with a group of friends. I’d eat here again.

Good gin and tonic and delicious salad. Everyone found something they liked on the menu. Wifi was great since the placed we stayed at had none.

Normales bis schönes Ambiente. Bedienung sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Burger waren lecker. Tortillas/Fajita waren lecker, für Kinder vllt ein Tick zu scharf. Scampis und Chips fein.

This place was just around the corner from our hotel, the APEX Waterloo Square and provided us our very first Edinburgh meal. Figuring we should just go whole hog, we ordered the Neeps and Tatties with Haggis. It was delicious. A couple of days later, we ate dinner here. I had a salad and my husband had a hot dog. Also delicious. This place seems to cater almost entirely to visitors, so the feel is friendly but not familiar.

Good place for a drink in the night, I have been for celebrate my friend's bday! I recommend it, it is 5/10minutes walking from Royal Mile

The Newsroom was recommended by friends for a local pub in Edinburgh. It far exceeded expectations. Our waitress, Kathy, was very welcoming and was great. We shared chicken fajitas, chicken tikka and a bottle of good red wine. We recommend for a relaxed evening.

Great tasty meal good price relaxed environment busy place plenty of different food & drinks friendly staff, clean. Look at glass lanterns to catch your eye as you come up to the front door. Excellent location plenty of young people around & baby's great for family. We had a sharing meal that was £18.50 good value, will come back again.

Just around the corner from Balmoral Hotel you find this popular bar, first time we visited and it was really crowded. A lot of different beverages in the bar.

I've been in here a couple of times for drinks and decided to try the food when i was in Edinburgh on Friday last week. I was a bit worried, i'd booked the table for 6:00 which was only giving us just over an hour before we had to leave to get to the Playhouse. I shouldnt have been concerned, the service was super fast, we both had fish and chips which was amazing, and Bruce was the best waiter i've ever had, whatever you pay him isnt enough, he was just so helpful and cheerful, he gave off a really positive vibe. I'd definitely come back, i want to try the deep fried Mars bar!

The Newsroom makes you feel like you've traveled to the past. The music and the overall interior design makes it a great place to catch a bite or a drink while hanging out with family or friends.

Recently visited the newsroom for a friend’s leaving night. We hadn’t booked to have food but this wasn’t a problem the staff were more than happy for us to have some. The food was great and cocktails were amazing. The staff are worth their weight in gold.

Went to visit this pub for the festival, Prices ok considering the location vs the rest of Edinburgh pubs. Not overpriced, but on the right hand of the bell curve. I did not order any food so cannot comment on the menu. Nice and neat décor and polite staff. I would be happy to go out of the fringe to get a more honest feel for this pub.

We held our Edinburgh festival show with the guys at the Newsroom. The place, the people and the food are an absolute dream. Go there, then spread the News.

There I was; innocently strolling up the Royal Mile when Fat Roland flyered me. About turned and headed for The Newsroom to catch his show but availed myself of a mighty fine pre-show lunch of Fun Guy (veg burger) & chips accompanied by a nice beer. The menu was varied, the service was top notch and the food hit the spot. Oh yes, I went to the Free Fringe show too.

My Norwewgian Cousin, My wife & I. Met in Scotland. We wentgto a number of bars & Pubsm but one sticks out in our minds tht is The Newsroom Bar & Eatery! we were walking through town and walked Past The Newsroom. The patrols adnd the vie2w of it called to my cousin Jan Eric , who remarked "Lets stop in here to take a beer?"

We went for dinner after a day at the fringe and we had an amazing time! We were served by Kiera who was amazing and gave amazing cocktail recommendations! The food was also incredible! I had the fajitas and my boyfriend had the steak pie both were absolutely wonderful! Also wanted to say that Bruce was also wonderful, he was serving a table next to us that were quite difficult and he handled it so well and had a smile on his face the whole time. We also went to a free fringe event down the stairs which was wonderful and the comedians were hilarious! Would definitely go again and recommend to friends!
