We had a truly wonderful dining experience here and cannot praise the restaurant highly enough. The location is stunning, set in a beautiful, ancient estate which is reached along a stunning wooded private drive where, if you are lucky, you may encounter the roaming ponies or if you're really lucky, a red squirrel! The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming with a delightfully friendly greeting from Tim & Louise (restaurant owners) who have clearly poured their life and soul into this place. The food was exceptional! The menu had a great range of options to suit all and is presented beautifully with flavours to die for. The quality and flavours of the food whipped up by Tim and his team were truly exceptional, some of the best we've had in Cornwall. They were equal to, if not better than other favourite restaurants of ours such as the Idle Rocks in St. Mawes. We loved that where possible they had sourced local, fresh ingredients and used them in exciting ways to create some amazing plates. We also loved that they are dog friendly and made our dog feel very welcome. (There is plenty of space for a furry friend...tables are spaced well :o) It is clear that Tim & Louise are incredibly passionate about what they do and it really shines through. It was such a pleasure to dine at The New Yard and we really look forward to visiting again soon! We highly recommend this hidden gem!

I came across the team behind this new venture by way of a food box delivery during COVID and was blown away by that, so was really excited to eat at their new place on a return to Cornwall Now, it depends what you're after. No it's not a 'sarnie and snack' cafe. And it's not Macdonald's prices . What it IS... Is friendly, attentive, a masterclass in using freshest of food it's best, more than a nod to foraged /unusual ingredients and local suppliers and a unique and relaxed setting Highly recommend

What a stunning setting for a sublime Sunday Lunch. New Yard Restaurant, Trellowarren is a welcome and complimentary addition to cafe Flora and we booked for their set Sunday Roast. The food is quite honestly some of the best I’ve had and the service friendly, helpful and obliging. I fell in love with the crumpled linen tablecloth and napkins and left wondering why I bother ironing mine. Drinks to start included a deliciously fragrant Fig Leaf Gin and a home made Kombucha. Stand out courses were the chilled courgette soup with fresh white crab meat and the strawberry Mille Feuille, those being just two of the five courses we were served, the main event being a deliciously crispy roast chicken served with a salad containing sweet pea flowers and nasturtium leaves and truffle roast pots delivered to our table by the talented head chef Tim Spedding. Gosh, I wish I could experience it all over again.

This is a difficult review to write as some aspects of Flora Cafe were excellent and others not so good. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, food was very tasty and really enjoyable. A lovely setting although the chairs outside were very uncomfortable and table very small. We were sat on quite a slope. Not a major problem but if you like comfort then take a cushion! The menu was limited and expensive. I had a baked carrot salad for £14 which was delicious but wouldn't be for everyone. Partner had a very tasty but ordinary pizza which was £18. A slice of sourdough bread was £5. I can't fault the food but this isn't somewhere to call in for an affordable lunch. A small menu is a good thing but it was quite limited. If you have someone with you that isn't a big fan of vegetables or pizza then it's bread and butter and a pudding. I had no idea what ticklemore or sobrasada was and neither did other people looking at the menu. It felt as though this cafe is not aimed at your average person. It's lovely, but trying to be trendy. Kensington- by- the -sea vibes! If you are not on a budget, want a trendy and pricey lunch then it's perfect. If you want a good quality but reasonably priced sandwich or a menu that you don't have to Google, then this probably isn't the place.

We visited as a family for New Years Eve and couldn’t have been more impressed!! The food was spectacular, the service was impeccable & the team made such an effort to make it a beautiful and relaxing space to enjoy the night. Great value for money and well worth exploring an option outside the village. Small note but not a criticism - the toilets are outside and the fire takes a while to warm up so remember a jumper to ensure you are comfortable! Thank you - we can’t wait to come back another time.

Visited The Pantry this July after a recommendation from another restaurant and cannot overstate just how wonderfully we were received. The food is outstanding and the service even surpasses the food. We were greated by the chef/patron on arrival and after discussing the menu items he offered to create some dishes just for us. I am so glad we put our dinner items in his hands, just wonderful! Visit this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

We visited Trelowarren last week. We have eaten there many times over previous years in its previous format. Wanting a light lunch we went to The Pantry attached to NYR . The place was buzzing and had a lively and interesting ambience. Each of us ordered ‘Plates’ from the menu as opposed to ‘Snacks’. The tortellini chosen by two of our party was really quite a small serving and came without any bread. We queried this with our waitress who said there would be an extra charge of 3.50 per head for bread ! When we expressed surprise her manner was ungracious - bordering on truculent, and did nothing to make us feel better about the situation. The bruschetta was very tasty but also quite small. A bill of £56 for 4 people for four single small courses ( excluding drinks) struck us as very poor value for money. Altogether a disappointing experience at a place we used to love going to.

Second time having the tasting menu at New Yard Restaurant and it was at least as perfect as last time, if not more. Their whole ethos is a joy to be part of, the kitchen garden is beautiful, the service was incredible - the chefs came out to explain each dish in real detail, the decor is really thoughtful and beautiful and the food... the food is sublime. The best I've eaten in Cornwall in eleven years, probably the best I've had in my life. They absolutely deserve their green michelin but they deserve multiple stars! A really special evening - thoroughly recommended.

Thoughtful menu with attention to sustainability from using vegetables, herbs from their garden to locally sourced fish and chicken reared from Truro. It was my pre birthday meal, from the minute we walked into the restaurant it was relaxed and we were shown to our table. A lovely birthday card was placed on the table and the menu was inside a envelope for us to open. A great touch. I ordered a glass of sparkling wine which was sweet and delicious. My husband ordered the red wine which was full bodied. A taste of the walled garden - The delicious sour dough baked onsite came with the most delicious gazpacho. Even my husband who doesn’t like tomatoes enjoyed this. It was incredible. Fresh, had a light texture and mouthfeel was smooth. Flavour was balanced and perfectly seasoned. Amazing!! The mackerel was equally tasty. We were told that the KP had plated up this course he did a brilliant job. I loved the teaching from the chefs who gave clear instructions and the opportunity for the KP to have a go and to be seen. Seabass was light and runner beans and courgette hidden underneath with basil and hollandaise texture was perfect. The chicken dish was succulent and beautifully cooked. So much attention to detail in the processes to achieve the flavour, combinations of textures and it’s presentation. We loved the flavour of sea buckthorn in the frozen marshmallow. The baba au rhum was wonderful. Punchy rum soaked in the delicate sponge. To be honest every course and each mouthful of food was a pleasure. Cheese mille feuille course wasn’t the usual affair it was outstanding. The blue cheese was delicious. Wonderful skills shown. The staff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. This was our second time at the restaurant and it was a lovely birthday meal. We left feeling happy, pretty full and skipping with joy. We had visited other restaurants during our stay and this by far the best. Thank you chef Jeffery, Stephen, Kaya, Alex, Sean, Louisa, Vera, Jack, Victoria, Marley, Libby, Lily, Kayley and Arturas. A strong team who had worked together, creating delicious food and amazing memories. Incredible skills and cooked with a smile.

The location is cool, in the middle of an estate long drive from the gate to the hotel. The restaurant is quirky the service fantastic with nice food intros so you get a great dining experience - the food is locally sourced and it’s nice to know how much they put into ingredient sourcing before you eat. They are clearly passionate about the food. The food is fantastic (the cheese course is epic) we loved this night out.

Went to NYR for a birthday meal. Paid £300 for two people - woke at 2 am with food poisoning. When NYR said they'd look into it and get back to me they never did, I wrote back frustrated - their response was - we were planning to offer a partial refund but now we won't due to your latest mail. Obviously a tactic to make the complaint disappear. Yes I wrote a mail bearing frustration. This is understandable given the circumstances. Just a fully disappointing experience. The concept is flimsy as these people have worked hard for a green Michelin star which is pointless as it's a "sustainability" credential - it makes no sense that customers have to travel an hour in both directions to reach the restaurant. The setup is the opposite of sustainable, considering the credential - the green star is for a small portion of something grown in the kitchen garden meanwhile all the fossil fuels saved in food production are burnt in food consumption by the customers travelling the distance to reach the restaurant. Considering this, Michelin are shown to have less than rigorous standards in their accreditation system. The management needs to put an emphasis on looking after customers with a bad experience and educate themselves on the pathways of toxicology, the respondent to my mail asserted that food poisoning could take effect several weeks after ingesting food. Really?! Out of pure frustration with how the management handled my complaint I told them to stick their money up their behind and give it to the next person owed recompense for disappointment. My mistake going to the ends of the world for a meal really, ill keep it local next time I feel the urge to be sustainable.

Michelin have started green stars - good food with a recognition of impact - and the New Yard gets it. Chef Jeffrey Robinson explains the menu - but also that a single sitting of fixed menu(s) allows for 30% less energy use and less hours prepping in the kitchen. Daily changes and using their kitchen garden allow best use of their suppliers and less food waste. So enjoy the great food in a great location without costing the earth.

We stayed on the Trelowarren estate over the half-term break and on our final night, dined at the New Yard Restaurant. We have dined there many times in the last 15 years but more recently, Jeffrey Robinson has taken the role as head chef and I believe, has now taken the reins fully so to speak. For starters we chose the beetroot tartare and crab risotto and for main courses, the chicken baked in hay and pan roasted hake. As a dessert I chose what could have been an innocuous blue cheese with pressed apple and puff pastry but with a small piece of honeycomb, was an amazing way to end a lovely meal. While it isn’t a cheap place to dine, the food, the service and the ambience never disappoint. It’s fine dining and Jeffrey is clearly starting to put his own unique stamp on things, with many of the ingredients grown in the nearby walled garden, foraged on the estate or at the very least, sourced locally. As an added note, we dined here last October and tried the tasting menu. We have tried tasting menus at other restaurants in the past and have generally been put off by the volume of food and richness (with a bad night’s sleep following) but I have to say it was delicious, striking the perfect balance between taste and variety.

Wonderful food and an incredible experience but without the arrogance seen in other places of the same standard in the U.K. This is the best place we’ve been to eat outside of France. We’ll be back every season as a minimum! We had an absolutely brilliant dinner here last night. Easily one of our best restaurant experiences. The space itself is very tastefully done; retaining rustic character from the original building with a complimentary modern twist. Plus it’s incredibly satisfying to see the walled garden across the yard, where lies the origin of half the menu!Service wise, Alex and his colleague (whose name we didn’t catch but she was lovely too!) were so friendly and super passionate for the food and wine they had on offer. Massive plus to chat with chef Jeffrey Robinson between courses and hear how his dishes came to be. They all treated us so well and we’re very grateful. And finally the food...oh the food! Menu changes regularly enough that I won’t dwell on what we had specifically, but suffice it to say you’re in very safe, ultra creative, and damn tasty hands. Thank you so much Chef Jeff and kitchen, it was all exquisite. We’ll remember that meal for a long time. Hope to be back soon. Thanks again.Katie & FredP.S. we’re obsessed with your crockery.

Visited with family and friends for dinner. The food was of good quality although at £35 for the steak I would have expected something exceptional which it wasn’t. The staff require some training and management, from the serving of the wine (opening before delivering to the table, not showing the bottle to check they had the right one, not pouring) to not being able to explain the menu when asked. The evening was very enjoyable, nice surroundings and company made it rather than the quality of the food which was above average but didn’t justify the prices. Staff were quite inflexible with our requests for additional side dishes. Topped off by only serving filter coffee. If this restaurant wants to go for a Michelin star, as mentioned in other reviews, then currently it is missing the point by some way. Attention to detail in the service is required. At these prices, not great value.

Dit restaurant is echt een Cornisch pareltje. Schitterend gelegen op het landgoed Trelowarren. De illustere binnenplaats met terras geeft het restaurant een prettige beslotenheid.

We love Trelowarren and occasionally go there to visit the galleries and visit the Bistro after. However I have to say we were disappointed on our recent visit to find out that one could only have a set lunch menu at £29 . It was not possible to have hot chocolate and the coffee wasn’t top class . I’m not sure what the reasoning for this as I feel certain many local people would find this not only expensive and would perhaps just want a snack.but to discourage people must have a spin off and affect those galleries as well.

Let me just say we love Trelowarren and visit occasionally for a walk some light lunch and to visit the two lovely galleries. However we were disappointed to see this new lunch menu at £29. It was also not even possible to have a chocolate drink .Not everyone wants to spend that amount on lunch and it will We feel deter local people from visiting which must have some affect not only only on the restaurant but also those galleries.

Excellent tasty beautifully presented inventive food for supper. One of the best desserts I have ever had, strawberry ice cream covering fig leaf sorbet with hazelnuts, and fresh strawberry pieces. Couldn’t recommend more highly. Lovely friendly staff.

Came for dinner on Tuesday night (they close Monday’s). Different menu than we have experienced in other restaurants, not to say it wasn’t pleasant. You can either have a 3 course or a 9 course and seeing it was our first visit we went for the 3 course, however you do get bread (homemade sourdough with some seeds and homemade butter, very nice) before and we had a little tiny ‘pre dessert’ before our pudding. It was very nice, we probably wouldn’t have orders these dishes if there was more choice, which at the beginning we were disappointed in, but at the end we left having a lovely meal, not eating our usual choices and with a more relaxed view on fine dining. Service very nice and relaxed and the setting is like the south of France. A wonderful evening, still light enough at the end to go say good night to the pigs, which were very funny and totally covered in mud.

The new yard restaurant is set in a beautiful part of the Cornish countryside. With such a lovely venue, you would expect the food to be up to as high of a standard, but unfortunately, it is lacking in most areas; balance, content, flare. It is also obvious that the chef is trying for a first Michelin star, but not quite hitting the mark. The waiting staff were attentive at first, but as the evening wore on, their level of service dropped a little. All in a reasonably average affair, the walled garden is an charming feature. And seeing where at least some of the food is sourced from is an appealing aspect.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the New Yard Restaurant a few weeks ago. The Trelowarren estate is a beautiful setting, and the restaurant has a sophisticated yet unpretentious charm. We chose the taster menu, which was delicious from start to finish. I particularly liked the turbot, and all the puddings were, as mother put it, 'to die for'. I am sure if the reader goes there they will be unable to doubt the veracity of her statement.

Can’t get over the rude way the wedding guests were treated at the evening do. Woman Marched in. Pulled plug on disco. Ushered everyone out into the evening drizzle including the bride who couldn’t believe it. This was at 11.10. They’d paid for venue until midnight. Taxis had been booked for twelve o’clock. Couldn’t bring forward so guests standing in drizzle having to wait until 12. Ruined the brides day. Could have politely asked if we would mind leaving. How would you like that to happen at your wedding!!

We were here for a wedding on Saturday. The positive is that the staff are a credit to them, all were absolutely lovely. Unfortunately, this place think that it is acceptable to do a huge mark up on drinks so we spent £15 on a Doom Bar, tiny bottle of lager and a soft drink. But the worst part is that the happy couple booked the venue for their wedding until midnight that night. Imagine how they felt when "the lady" of the place came in AT 11 PM, and actually pulled the plug on the band and kicked them all out?! They had all booked transport for midnight, so Mr and Mrs along with all their guests had to stand outside in the cold for an hour?? I sincerely hope that Trelowarren are going to apologise for this behaviour and also give something back to the couple. Disgraceful having their happy day ruined like that after having paid til midnight. Will not recommend to anyone.

We wanted to eat here before a local walk. On arrival we were told we could only have the set menu for two courses at £18.00. We had looked at the website where the lunch menu consisted of single courses starting at £6.95. I told the waitress this who told me firmly that after a word with chef our only option was to pay the 2 course menu for £18.00. We excused ourselves and went to find a local pub which turned out to be a lot cheaper as we only needed a light snack!

Made a special trip for Sunday lunch as previous visits made by my parents had been excellent. Ominously the car park was almost empty when we arrived at 1330, usually a hive of activity. The yard itself looked run down. The restaurant only had two other people eating which made the atmosphere somewhat disconcerting and uncomfortable especially with the number of staff in there standing around. On previous occasions it was full. I found the food just okay and very pricey but my parents didn't given they had been before and expected better . They were upset as the menu had no starter or dessert options, the reason given was it was a new concept. My parents commented on how very quiet it was and the change in menu. The staff were very polite and friendly.

We stayed on the Trelowarren Estate with some friends and ate in the restaurant on Saturday night. Their set menu of 3 courses was superb. Between the 4 of us we pretty much sampled every dish and could fault nothing! In addition to delicious food the staff were friendly and knowledgeable and happy to make recommendations. It was such a lovely evening we were the last to leave after a great chat with the Chef! If you are anywhere near this area, take the time to book in here, you won’t regret it.

I visited the restaurant by default last Sunday with my partner and our dog. We were in the area looking for a nice lunch and arrived at a lovely courtyard. Initially the waiter told us that they were fully booked for Sunday lunch but as we left the chef ran out to inform us that they will accommodate if we are able to place an early order. I’m so glad he did that as we were in for a surprise. We had a 3 course lunch off the set menu, it is a rather small selection but understandable as everything was beautifully presented and I think even the condiments are home made..? Either way, very reasonable portions, beautiful setting (especially in the sunny courtyard ) and the staff, after initially hiccup, were very welcoming to us and our dog. I absolutely loved the ‘Lemon’ dessert, have no idea what it was but delicious. Definitely looking forward to returning for a future dinner date now that we know where it is!

My partner and I stayed here for a rare weekend away without the kids. We stay in one of their fantastic cottages which was beautifully done out and had everything you could need inside. We really were very impressed. However the main reason for our visit was to eat in the restaurant. We were warmly greeted and instantly felt at easy in a really nicely set out restaurant, we had a drink from a very well stocked bar with a great selection of drinks, anything from a home brewed apple beer to cocktails and everything in between.

The ice creams here are beautiful! Really generous portions and are very well presented. The customer service we received was outstanding, my daughter had a massive meltdown (ASD) and they were nothing but supportive, understanding and helpful. We'd had a very tough day today with meltdowns galore and this one was by far the worst of the day yet I never felt alone or judged. People like you make the biggest difference and I am so very grateful for you going out of your way to help and care. Thank you x
