this was once jewel of a restaurant but after my recent visit how it has changed for the worst. The standards have really dropped , after booking a table for 7pm and ordering we still hadn't been served at 9pm and as 2 of us are diabetics we found this unacceptable, when we threatend to leave a burnt offering was then served ,when we informed Steve the manager he then accused us of trying to get out of paying.and had no concept of the time taken to serve us. I would not recommend this restaurant while it's under the present management.

We were in town trying to find a good roast and was recommended to this place by a customer at another pub who were fully booked. The Sunday roast here is definitely worth a visit. Decided to visit The New Inn while visiting nearby Lost Gardens and Charlestown, and called in advance to book a table. The ratings shown via Google Maps were good and we're glad we made the journey. Acknowledging one of the other posts for parking being a challenge, we parked in a street a few hundred metres away which wasn't an issue for us but could be for others. Served drinks straight away in a typical pub bar area, we were then shown to our table on the conservatory which was decorated nicely with views out to the beer garden and rear of the village. The menu had a good selection of pub classics while interspersed with both vegetarian and specials of the day. The scallops with black pudding were very well cooked, served with new potatoes and a vegetable purée that was tasty and smooth. Mains were vegetable curry and steak, ale and mushroom pie with local veg, both served piping hot and delicious. Times for delivery of both courses were reasonable in my view, although I heard another lady commenting it'd been 45 minutes for her mains to arrive. Service was very pleasant throughout, checking we were both happy with the food and asking if we'd like anything further, more drinks, etc. Overall we both really enjoyed our visit and would recommend a visit if you're in the locality

First time visitng from a different area. I had a gluten free beef burger along with chips and colslaw. My partner had a chicken burger with brie. The server was not very confident speaking about allergens, so not very reassuring. The sides were lovely, added apple to the colslaw is a nice touch, not the raisins though. The burgers were very greasy constantly dripping, making a pool effect. Even with the chicken burger which we were surprised about. Sat on our stomaches uncomfortable and felt icky. We could have better burgers elsewhere.

Went here on a whim during half term for some food and we not disappointed. Service was excellent, with the quirky bar manager a bonus. Ate in the conservatory overlooking the garden. Lots of specials and choices. My wife had the lamb tikka burger and I had the pork belly. Both were excellent. Couldn't resist the scallops and black pudding starter either. My 8 year old had a cheeseburger which was £2 during half term for all kids meals. Massive garden which my daughter and other children played nicely together in after the meal. Would certainly recommend and would definitely revisit if we are ever in the area. (No photos as we were so hungry!)

We dined at The New Inn recently with visiting family, having told them how good it was. The food, when it finally arrived, was ok but the chips were inedible due to being laced with salt and after a wait of almost two hours for the main, we had lost our appetite. The staff, when we enquired about the long waiting time, were offhand and uninterested. All this whilst a dog in the corner of room barked very loudly every few minutes at every passer-by and a couple at an adjacent table rounded on us quite aggressively for complaining. So much so that we left before finishing our food. Clearly friends of the owners. We’ve had several meals at The New Inn over the last few years and it was always good but waiting that long for food, then subsequently being ignored by passing staff is a miserable experience. We will be going elsewhere in future.

Booked a meal for my birthday. Was told a bit of a wait on food. Waited an hour then asked was it going to be long then waited another five minutes. We all had steak mine and my husband's was OK one of the other's steak was tough supposed to be cherry tomatoes but was big one's mushrooms were supposed to be in garlic couldn't taste any. The chip's come already salted. Which is a shame as my husband dosent normally have salt on his. We were then asked if we wanted to see desert menu which we said yes please. After waiting about 20 mins I asked again. Desert was nice. Don't think I would go back as wait was to long. Didn't expect this as we were booked in so they knew we were coming and knew it was my birthday. A shame really.

St Austell Brewery establishment. Unassuming from the outside, however it must have one of the best beer gardens in Cornwall. What a suntrap with a large awning to avoid sitting directly in the sun if you choose to, however the only thing that I thought was lacking was any children's play equipment as there is ample room to accommodate even some swings on perhaps the lower tier lawn. The pub itself is more stars. The landlord, a disgrace. Now I'm not a fan of kids in a bar but on a good Friday afternoon, for a man to be standing in a pub and his kids quietly sitting on seats, then the landlord shout, "Get them out of my bar" (verbatim)..... That is shocking. Final time I'll drink there, having drunk there for 20 yrs. I'd imagine the dad, the kids and the rest of their family won't be back either.

Not really sure telling a parent to "get them out of my bar!" is the correct way to mention to someone you don't want kids in "Your bar!".......Serving staff seem great but the guy behing the bar is a big letdown on this lovely village. I'm just hoping he is a poor member of staff and not the landlord. (But judging by the look of him and the fact he looked like he'd he had consumed a few, I'm guessing he's the landlord)

The food’s OK, and not overpriced. What lets the place down is the noisy staff member ( owner?). I know it’s a greasy spoon, but still, one should be able to eat and hear oneself think in relative peace. I sit outside if possible.
