Stumbled on the New Inn for lunch. This little pub turned out to be a bit of a gem - great, home cooked food and friendly staff. A good local crowd too to add some atmosphere!

Well this place is a hidden gem! A bit rough around the edges to look at but the staff and food more than make up for it! They have an accessible dining room as my son is a wheelchair user. The food was fresh, hot and the portions were very generous, also the prices were excellent considering the amount of food you got. We had cottage pie with was just like your mother makes ( if she’s a good cook!) ribs which were huge! Faggots which were very tasty and a burger which was immense! We very much recommend the New Inn and will be back very soon. Thank you all for a wonderful meal!

We stumbled across this place on our way to Tenby and we are so glad that we did. We stopped for lunch and we had the most amazing ploughmans which was served in the cutest small hamper. The lunch did take a while to be served but it was so worth the wait. Take the time to visit, have a chat with the incredibly friendly locals and enjoy the food & drink.

Stopped on way home from holiday in South Wales - made very welcome by staff and good value home cooked meals. Grandson well looked-after with some novelties and a children's meal - even replaced his lemonade when he'd accidently knocked it over, and set him up on a games machine. Nice end to our week away.

Visited for late lunch on la ong journey home to Mid Wales from North Somerset. We had failed to find something suitable in Builth and saw the pub on side of road and decided to call in on off chance . We were very pleased to be told that they were cooking even though it was around 2pm. We were given a pizza menu and another menu which had a range of meals from light bites to main courses. My friend and I chose chicken tikka masala half rice and chips. The waitress kindly explained that it would take a while as the chips were homemade and potatoes would be peeled and cooked from fresh. We weren’t in a hurry so was fine with that. We were offered choice of drinks including teas or coffees. The bar area we ate in was quite small and very basic with a few locals sat at a couple of tables some with their lovely dogs. However, the welcome and the quality of the meals more than made up for the decor. Best tikka masala we’ve ever had. It was piping hot and enormous portions. The toilets were also spotlessly clean. Would highly recommend as a good place to stop for a good feed just off the road as you come into the village.

Traditional pub, no fuss. We popped in for food on the first Sunday of the Royal Welsh. Not too busy and plenty of outdoor seating. Lunch time meals were around £7.50 each and came with salad and fries. A bit of a wait for food but fine because we were not in a rush. Generous portions and reasonable prices. Lovely ice cool cider. Convenient parking as well, located on the main road.

Our first full day in Wales, a Sunday and the wonderful internet gave us the phone number of this lovely pub, who would you believe, in a little village in Wales were serving what turned out to be one of the nicest Paella and Russian salads I have had. After a rousing walk from Disserth, we arrived at the new Inn hungry and thirsty, the local beer was smooth and cold and as mentioned the food excellent. After finishing the chef came over to say hello and gave us directions to probably one of the most beautiful stretches of the River Irfon, it even has a 'beach'. So go to the New Inn enjoy their lovely beer and food then walk off the post lunch fatigue by asking Chef for directions to the beach, you will be so pleased you did.

I must be missing something. The five-star reviews talk of home made food when all we were offered was bought-in pies (and the like) off a very basic menu. Not a dining table in sight, just decorating gear with the smell of new paint. Not even encouraged to return to see if it could remotely be five star.

What a great place! We ended up spending all five evenings of our holiday here. The homemade food was really good - and very good value for money. Faggots chips and mushy peas, steak and ale pie, beef madras all fabulous. The proper chips and huge jug of gravy with most meals was just the ticket for two hungry walkers! Lovely hand pull Double Dragon Welsh ale too. Decent pool table, and all the regulars became our friends, they were so welcoming. Sharne, Katie and the team looked after us brilliantly every night. One day we phoned to say we weren’t going to make it for food until 9pm - it was no problem, and we were offered the full menu nonetheless. The two dogs Diago (puppy) and Buddy (elderly) were lovely too - and superbly well trained. We recommend this establishment wholeheartedly and unreservedly. Superb.

We visit this place a few times a year and have done for a number of years. We had heard it had changed hands and hoped the food was just as good. On walking in we were shown to a seat and orders for our drinks were taken, the young girl then gave us a "menu". There was not a great choice on there. I decided to have pie chips and peas which I mistakenly thought it would be the same as our previous visit and that was homemade, my partner had ham, egg and chips, again we thought the ham would be the same quality as previous visits. How wrong we were, my pie was of the same type you get in chip shops, and my partners ham was very fatty The place has gone so far down hill in less than a year. We usually go there every evening and Sunday lunchtime when in the area, but our visit last saturday will be our last. The tables felt as if they had not been cleaned since the last owners left

We ordered the Welsh Rarebit, which comprised 1.5 pieces of toast from an ordinary sliced loaf with a thin brown liquid poured over the top. The liquid was so thin it drifted off the toast and spread over the plate, it started to congeal as it cooled. I don't know what this liquid was, it had a bitter taste and neither resembled nor tasted like it had any cheese in it. It looked and tasted quite nasty. To make matters worse, someone thought a dollop of creamy coleslaw would make a good accompaniment .... it didn't! The Landlord and waiter were friendly enough but the woman behind the bar was most unwelcoming, we won't be calling there again but I don't think that will bother her as she obviously doesn't want passing customers.

However when she said I needed to come back inside in ten minutes (we were sat outside in the sun) I couldn’t quite believe it. Anyway I dutifully returned and the food was not ready so I stood around like a fool. Eventually it was ready and the guy in the kitchen said he didn’t like people eating outside as the doors were the wrong way and he had no intention of changing them! Perhaps this explains why the place is on the decline, such a shame they can’t value customers. Lunch was ok though.

Stopped for breakfast at 10am. Looked good local pub and had butchers (apparently award winning) next door so was excited to have some proper sausages. 8 of us entered and no one to be seen. Sat in dark room at back and waited. An older lady appeared. No greeting or offer of menus??? We then said could we have breakfast, 'yes' she said. My mum then walked up to bar to grab a menu at which point lady said 'not that one' and pulled out a couple of breakfast menus - blimey... We all felt uneasy. Ordered full 5 welsh breakfasts at £5.50 each and a boiled eggs n soldiers £4.50. Tea and coffee £2 (coffee a milicano machine). We changed 2x black puddings on orders as were for children to share (the lady tutted and rolled her eyes, I asked if it was OK and apologised and she simply looked miffed?). we then waited 15mins whilst another table received food and drinks to be served anything? Little girl enjoyed her boiled eggs. Large plate of toast was fine served with plenty of butter. Pot of tea was nice also. Breakfast was ok but we were very disappointed as sausages were so bready with little taste (texture of Richmond sausage). The black pudding was OK but lacked seasoning and deep flavour. Bacon was lovely and very thick (gammon slice size). Grilled tomatoes were not very grilled and small dollop of beans. Mushrooms and egg cooked nice.

Stopped off to have a rest and something to eat and drink. Good point: outside appearance was kind of quaint and it advertised good food served. So in we went. Bad points. No atmosphere. Woman behind bar was rude, lacked manners and she certainly did not suit being behind the bar, in our opinion she may be better working away from where there are customers, to stop her scaring more customers off, her hosting skills were abysmal. No one came to ask if everything was ok. Food was awful, we were not advised or given any choice of types of bread they offered, the bread for the tuna was seeded, we only asked for it to be brown bread, scarey if you were allergic to nuts or seeds and we were made to feel that you dare not complain, cheese and onion on a partially dry bun, one slice of cheese and thick pieces of onion with what appeared an tasted (not butter) but cheap margarine and the tuna mayo sandwich appeared that it was scraped on and scraped off (see pic) not worth the money. Presentation of food, well we will leave it there. The pub was not busy, not that this should make any difference.Toilets were not the best. Hand dryer did not work and they had left no paper towels but instead left toilet roll by sink. No locks on doors. Maybe they are complacent and just dont care. Awful awful place. We should of read all reviews on tripadvisor prior to eating here. Never again.

Having lived in Wales for 5 years, and regularly travelling to and from the Midlands, I have stopped in my fair share of eating establishments. Me and my brother visited this this pub on a Sunday evening for dinner at around 6.30pm. From the outside this pub looks like a wonderful Welsh country pub, therefore we eagerly parked up and wondered in. We accidentally walked into the bar entrance, which unfortunately meant the entire bar stared at us (not unheard of in a Welsh pub), we quickly rushed through to the back room where they were serving food. The tables were laid in a mismatch array and the bar appeared deserted. Unperturbed and very hungry, we grabbed a menu and sat down at an available table, alongside a larger party, in a darker front room. Many of the tables in the main area had one or two sat at them and there were a lot of dirty plates and empty glasses waiting to be cleared away. Innocently I gave them the benefit of the doubt and started waiting at the bar. Then appeared a grumpy lady who seemed less than interested in serving us and rudely told us that if we expected to eat we had better sit in the front room because it was bingo tonight, clearly they were expecting a full house. We ordered two lasagnes and two diet cokes which came to £19, fairly reasonable in my view. The glasses were heavily marked, but not wanting to anger the grumpy land lady I did not complain so just casually wiped them myself. Our meals were brought promptly by a slightly more cheerful man. In confusion I looked at my plate and saw what looked like a mountain of soggy chips with a side order of lasagne. The salad garnish was also laughable, being a slither of tomato and some coleslaw, with a random bit of carrot accompanying it. Grumpy lady returns trying to give more condiments, of which we already had, then quickly stalked off huffly to go and attend to her bingo. At this point me and my brother exchanged looks and agreed that we better finish our painfully average meal and get out whilst we can. In other news, the decor is very dated and the toilets do not even have locks on them. In conclusion I will NEVER visit this pub again and in this day and age people should know how to give good customer service. Places like this which do not change will see customers vote with their feet and go elsewhere. There are between 5-10 pubs within a 10-15 minute drive that are substantially better. I would rather go hungry than visit this pub again.

Stopped here on our during our drive from Swansea to the Lake District. Family of 4 with children aged 9 & 6. Looked very welcoming from the outside with a country pub feel to it and large carved wooden Pig at the doorway. This seemed a good omen to me as a meat lover! How wrong could I have been......We went through to the lounge area at the back and ordered from a slightly grumpy lady. It was lunch time admittedly and she seemed to be taking orders & serving by herself. My children both ordered cheese on toast. In my minds eye I pictured 4 large triangles of bubbling mature cheddar on thick cut farmhouse bread on each plate as this was a country pub. But no..... one single slice of breakfast dodgy white budget bread which had been teased by a grill. My heart strings pulled as my 9 year old son looked at me as if to say "it's ok Dad - it's not your fault!" Bless him - what a good boy.My wife ordered a cheese and tomato 'bap' which came in a slightly dry pre-cut bread roll with salad garnish of a slice of tomato, a slice of cucumber and some lettuce. I held out hope for my order of handmade sausages in a 'bap'. I was met with the same as my wife. 2 sausages thrown in a pre-cut white roll with no butter and a poor attempt of a salad garnish. All this for £23 including drinks of 2 cans of Coke and to fruit shoot drinks. Will keep going next time !

I got the feeling that was still a family-run place, with grandma governing the kitchen (as it should). Quality/food/price-wise this would normally suffice for a 4-star rating from me.Reason why I gave 3 and not 4 stars is the stress caused by the amount of customers (there's a big festival in town), a few of which didn't feel welcome and decided to leave.

After a long day time was getting on so stopped here for a meal. Shame I had not checked trip advisor first! At about 7.30 the bar was empty which is never a good sign. As others have commented, it looked dated, dingy and none too clean. Our table was a bit sticky....not obviously dirty but there were drink dribbles on it that had not been wiped. Ordered four meals. This is the kind of place that serves chips with everything.....and not very nice chips either. Cheaply fills a plate I guess. The kids ate all theirs, I myself about half (I was hungry!) and my husband left them all. Well, he ordered scotch egg salad so not exactly a chip friendly meal. Even the lasagne comes with chips. I opted for homemade pie which was ok but not great....and was heated in a microwave, with hard bits of kidney in places yet not piping hot all through.....could be why I slept with a bucket by my bed......and for all this joy, it was overpriced too. Glad I never have to drive this way again.

Ghastly drive from Buckinghamshire to Swansea on M4 in appalling traffic then cutting across Wales from Swansea to Rhayader, we were looking for somewhere for a drink/late lunch. This looked promising from outside, but really.....! A dingy bar, with fading dirty decor. Plants that needed watering. The dirty plates and gravy bowl on the counter were are real treat. And no - the place was not rammed so the "we're busy" excuse did not wash. The locals eyed us strangely (but hey you get used to this in Wales - and I am Welsh). But as for the landlady - you would have thought she would have been pleased to have some customers, but it was clearly a big effort to do something as radical as serve a drink promptly. The wine was filthy but to be fair the Double Dragon beer was fine. Had some crisps but decided food was a step too far.All in all a profoundly depressing experience. If tempted, keep on driving

After a few days driving around Wales at a punishing pace I stopped here on a whim to get a late lunch (4 pm) on my way to Cardiff. For such a small place they have a massive all day menu and they will make any of it from scratch. Good hearty portions which was perfect for the miserable weather and my stomach!Very affordable as well.

we arrived here late one Friday evening to hopefully eat after a long drive from Liverpool I was 4 months pregnant so as you can imagine busting for the loo! as we pulled up outside there was a small lounge area, I'm guessing for the locals and everyone turned to stare which made me quite uncomfortable straight away but we went in, I headed straight for the loo and my partner got some menus when I came out he was sitting on what could only be described as old school tables and chairs the room was drab and not very well lit I got to my partner and straight away he told me we are not eating in here I looked at the menu and had to agree so we headed out to the car on our way out we where met by a large man who was shouting us from the kitchen so my partner turned only to see the man standing at the kitchen door with a very nasty attitude screaming we are not a public toilet! we explained that this was never our intention and we didn't like the look of the menu he was really angry and red in the face I felt like crying after leaving! I would never advise anybody to even stop here keep driving past!

Since my last review the landlord has refurbished the lounge bar, relocated the kitchen and created a separate dining area in a previously un-used area. The dining area is accessed via the lounge bar but is not signposted , all you have to do is go through an open doorway next to the end of the bar ( just look for the large green menu cards). The large function room is no longer connected to the lounge bar. Bingo is now held in the lounge bar on Wednesdays and Sundays. Wi-Fi access is available .

A good steak and ale pie with proper chips - so much better than the oven chips most places serve. Only a small selection of beers, in the back bar at least. Good value and friendly service. The (I think) landlord stopped for a chat and seemed very welcoming, so it was a good experience. But don't expect much from the interior. It looks like it might be easy to wipe down and that's about the best you can say for it. The toilets smelled like the 1970s,

We were left shocked at just how awful the service was at this shabby and dirty pub. If we weren't so tired after a long 2 day journey home from holiday we would have left. The older man and woman behind the bar were rude, unfriendly, and miserable. We had to ask for our table to be cleaned and once our order arrived there had been a mistake made which we were blamed for. Every customer there was dealt with just as badly! Once we left we managed to laugh about how terrible it had been, but I would recommend that no one bothers to visit this place unless other businesses want to train their staff how not to do it!

I say land-woman as she is certainly no lady. After a lovely day out with an organised off roading trip we broke down and were towed to this pub. We had our 4yr old granddaughter with us and it was about 6pm, the recovery people sais that it would take 3 hours to get to us.we decided to sit outside but went in and ordered some soft drinks first. The landlord could just about be bothered, as time was getting on my husband went to order some chips for granddaughter you could have sworn he had asked for the moon, she was very rude and being that we were stuck with the little one she could have been a little more helpful. In fact they moaned about where truck was, which was not blocking any of the car parks, were reluctant to serve food to us and we were made to feel as though we had to sit outside. I would never go back to this place and will now be avoided by the club that we are part of. Rude, arrogant people. Must add that some of the locals were lovely. Food overpriced, greasy and tasteless sausage and chips wrapped in foil.

The food & drink order was taken promptly at the Bar and arrived at the table in a timely manner despite the restaurant being very busy. The food is prepared and cooked to order and not rushed fast food. The food presentation was mouth watering and tasted even better!! The food was fresh and tasted great. Can't fault all 5 meals in the slightest. The most important part was that the bill that reflected value for moneyI would recommend the Pork dishes that a from there own locally reared pigs. This is a lovely country pub in a rural farming community, if you are looking for an up market fancy restaurant this is not the place for you. We stopped here for couple of drinks on our way home one Sun afternoon,on my recommendation. This use to be my local when I lived in Newbridge. We walked into a cold grubby bar, horrified, we walked through into the even more cold and grubby unkempt lounge bar, where there was no lighting on behind the bar giving the impression that they were closed. At 3 30pm there was still used and dirty crockery sitting around on one of the tables, it looked like the remnants of a staff meal because the place was empty other than we three, the land lady looked really fed up with having to serve customers, scowled at us,and didn't even turn on the lights when we sat at a table with our drinks. I had been waxing lyrical about my old haunt of 22years, but oh boy was I embarrassed with it and apologised to my friends for a truly awful Sunday afternoon drink, though actually the lager I had wasn't too bad.

This is a COUNTRY pub so don't expect MICROWAVED food .It's all good honest home cooked food. All the various areas are CLEARLY signposted so you cannot get lost. From the car-park it runs as follows; Function Hall, Public Bar with a small pool table in it, Lounge/Eating area (entrance is nearest to the T junction of the road). There is usually one bartender on duty so you MAY have to wait for a very short period of time but otherwise it's fine as he is a very friendly man alongside the landlord and his wife(who does the home cooking). The menu is very good (NO BK OR MACD burgers here).Very good choice of desserts as well. Some previous reviews have commented on the state of the garden etc. Having spoken to the landlord we have ascertained that the garden is intended to be used by children as a play area and also by backpackers if they wish to camp overnight, therefore it is not as pristine as Kew Gardens! We can recommend the Fagglets, Liver and Onions, Lasagne amongst other items on the menu BUT ENSURE THAT YOU ARE HUNGRY because your meal will be value for money. OAPs get a special 2 course meal deal on Tuesdays between midday and 2pm. There is also Bingo on a Wednesday evening starting at 7:30pm and finishing usually about 9pm. Having only moved to Wales 2 years ago we are very happy to say we now consider this our local. We feel that any negative comments need to be looked from the perspective of the fact that this is a pub/restaurant in the middle of the countryside and not in the middle of a large town or city. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED especially if you like to eat in peace and quiet

We stopped here on our way to Mid Wales as from the outside it looked like a fairly decent pub. How wrong we were. We went into what we presumed was the bar and found ourselves in what looked like the inside of a prefab/village hall with one occupied table (sun lunchtime). To be honest we were confused and backed out thinking it was some sort of function room and went to what was called the bar . This resembled a working mans club with a pool table stuck in the middle of it - ghastly - so retreated back to the village hall. Tatty, worn and grubby and not a glimmer of a smile from the chap behind the bar or the landlady. We ordered what we thought were the safest choices - bacon roll and welsh rarebit. The roll was ok, the tiny dollop of salad was tasteless and the welsh rarebit.....my husband is still having nightmares about it. Some sort of paste on soggy bread. We weren't asked if we enjoyed our meal and we didn't complain as we didn't want to prolong our visit. This gourmet experience was topped off by the stunning view of an unkempt scruffy garden. Will never return.

Visited the New Inn for lunch, had already read the reviews but thought we would try it for ourselves, the decor and furniture is out of date and drab, the restaurant grubby. Ordered two Welsh Rarebits and two soups with rolls. All arrived together, soup tasted ok but not piping hot, the rolls had been defrosted in a microwave for too long and became hard and unable to be eaten. The Welsh Rarebit appeared to be made of melted cheese spread and was tasteless, the side salad with this was made up of a few strips of iceberg lettuce, a very small portion of coleslaw and one small cherry tomato. One of the soups contained a piece of tin foil. We complained about the foil and bread rolls and were told by the land lady that they had recently changed their bread supplier and that was the problem with the rolls, she disputed the fact that they had been microwaved. We asked for a refund on both soups which we were given together with an apology

My husband, 20 month old twin sons and I ate at the New Inn on August Bank Holiday Monday. The pub is very dated and clutered and could really do with a revamp. The restaurant also had no atmosphere as there was no background music playing. Even though the restaurant was quite during our visit the service was very slow, the wait staff seemed very stressed and were fairly unfriendly. Before ordering i asked if there were onions in the chicken and mushroom pie and if the chicken on the surf, turf and fowl was a chicken breast however the waitress didn't know the answer to either question. The menu has quite a small choice so surely the wait staff should know what each item consiats of. We waited approximately 45 minutes for our food which was hard work with two toddlers however it was worth the wait as it was really lovely. You could tell it was all homemade and fresh, the steak and chicken I had was beautifully cooked and ever so tender, you could tell it was fresh from the adjoining butchers shop. Although the food was lovely I would not return to the New Inn due to the atmosphere/staff.

Well we couldn't and wouldn't complain it was delicious. The pork and lamb were so full of flavour and the portions very ample the chips are special too. Even the chips were fresh hand cut potatoes & the sausage home made. I couldn't fault anything. The place was clean & tidy & the staff friendly. Well, in complete contrast to a review I have just read (written a couple of days before my visit) I found the place excellent and was served good beer and proper pub food. The landlord had a good sense of humour and we had quite a chat about farming and the locality in general.I too had the beef curry and ok, it was not the same as you would expect in an Indian restaurant but this is in a pub! I would say it was one of the best pub curries I have had in a long time both in terms of quality and quantity. I tend to avoid pub curries as these are often a disappointment but this was not the case here. I chanced an exception as I had not had a curry for a while and was glad I did. My wife was also very pleased with her meal. My only regret was that I found this place at the end of my week and not the beginning!

Not sure where to begin...from the outside the pub looked quite pleasant, but once inside it is extremely dated. We could look over this if the food and service was good, but both were terrible. The landlady and landlord were unfriendly and rude. We ordered beef curry, which consisted of cubes of 'meat' and a tonne of apricots served in brown slop. The chips were greasy, the soup was very thick and lumpy and the egg sandwich was impossible to eat as it squelched out the sides every time you took a bite, which actually wasn't a bad thing as it was greasy and unpleasant. It was even more disappointing as it isn't particularly cheap. Worst meal and dining experience ever.

The bad Sunday meal? None of their food is bought in, it is all home made and "proper" food, not mystery tubes from a supermarket but home-made sausages, and Chips made from Real potatoes not just from potatoe skins. Sorry you didnt like it, but We love real food and so did our guests, all 157 of them x Give the New Inn a chance and make some new friends :o)Our wedding photos are fab and are holding a charity event there this weekend and have friends from the wedding coming again to stay with them! The decor is very dated and cluttered but this didn't put us off, and we were then told there were no Yorkshire puds to go with the roasts, I was ok with this but everyone else chose different meals, which was a bad move. My roast beef dinner was average at best but have had far better in £3.50 carveries in the past, my girlfriend had a microwaved pie and very limp soggy chips, my son had the same limp chips with a fish that had rubbery batter and finally my daughters sausage and mash was completely inedible due to the awful lumpy mash, horrible sausages and the pint of gravy it was drowned in!
