The new owners, Justine and Andy, have transformed this friendly village pub. They provide great meals at great prices as well as events such as music and quiz nights. We run a B&B nearby and lots of our guests have been there and provided good reports to back up our own experiences. Well done!

After a somewhat chequered history, the pub has been reinvigorated by the new landlord and landlady: Andy and Justine. We are local and regular users and the pub has been transformed back into a warm and welcoming country pub serving well kept ales and good pub grub. Highly recommended!

Incredible food and huge portion sizes! A cute and cosy traditional pub, with great service. We had a burger, ham/egg/chips, kids chicken goujons and Thai curry. All were so tasty and great value for money. The plates were massive. Desserts were delicious too!

After learning that the New Inn has only recently been under new ownership by an amazing couple, only very recent reviews should be considered - although they do deserve the 5 out of 5! Exceptional food with a well kept and diverse range of ale, a banterful and friendly Landlord and Landlady and extremely warm and friendly locals made this journey so worth the travel. A real lovely feel to the place and without a doubt we shall return ... probably again and again. Love it!!!

A large group of us went for a meal . Starters, main and pudding all fantastic, but the chicken peanut curry was the best I have ever had.

The new inn had a fish and chip supper night 29/9/23 Outstanding infact the best fish and chip I've had for a long time. The fish was so fresh, and the batter was light and crispy. Well done Tim and natcha.

We came for lunch and were delighted to be offered some menu items very different from the usual pub lunch menus. We began with spicy Korean squid. Fabulous flavours, and plenty to share as a starter. Next we had Thai chicken curry pies, served with chips and peas. Delicious! The couple who own the pub came to talk to us -she is Thai and took time to tell us how she prepares and cooks the food. I wish we lived closer so could come here again! It was a delightful experience- they were such lovely hosts and we so enjoyed our lunch. If you wish for more usual fare it is also available.

Wonderful welcome, wonderful food. A classic devon pub. We had Thai green curry pie. A wonderful pastry combined with classic Thai food.

Its possible for a pub to be a real pub and serve great food it just doesn't happen very often. Fortunately it does here. The bar buzzes with locals and tourists, the prices are very reasonable and the place is always clean and tidy but not clinical. The food menu changes very regularly but normally has a pub classic or three as well as more daring options.

A welcoming busy village pub whose food is excellent, a cut above your average gastro pub. The staff are friendly and efficient. The place marries being a proper country pub with being an above average reastaurent in a way that many fail to achieve.

We booked a last-minute dinner at the Royal George for 12 people (with just a couple of hours’ notice!) and were absolutely blown away by the experience. We’re on holiday in Appledore and this evening was easily a highlight of our trip. The team couldn’t have been more accommodating – they gave us a private room, which made it feel extra special. Service was exceptional from the moment we arrived. We were never left waiting for anything – drinks flowed, food came out promptly, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm. The food? Incredible. The burgers were terrific, the steaks were melt-in-the-mouth tender, the mussels were fresh and full of flavour, and the fish curry was perfectly spiced and absolutely beautiful. They even went above and beyond by sending us home with a takeaway portion of the chef’s crumble of the day for a family member who couldn’t make it. Such a thoughtful touch. And yes, our dog Barney was welcomed too – which made the whole evening feel even more inclusive and relaxed. We left full, happy, and very grateful. The Royal George is an absolute gem. Highly recommend!

My wife and I ate dinner here, I had mussels to start which were ok but the portion was quite small (only 8) then I had the seafood linguine which was quite nice, my wife had the spaghetti Bolognese for main, for which she was quite disappointed. On the whole the food was ok and service was good.

Lovely pub, very welcoming landlord and landlady. Food was really good, excellent price. We were not made to feel like outsiders as we were visiting the area. Exactly as a pub should be.
