First the good points. The menu here is very good and the prices were reasonable. The meals we had were excellent but far too large portions. They could save money as we weren’t the only people unable to clean our plates. Staff were very friendly and helpful Unfortunately the bad bit, there is no atmosphere in a very dreary restaurant in dire need of refurbishment . I appreciate that spending on pubs is not always available but this place could be made so much better with just a little TLC.

We tried their Thursday Grill club - a free drink with every grill dinner. The waitress was extremely nice, responsive and welcomed us with a big smile. The food was great, freshly cooked and tasty. The portion size was also good. It is a typical village pub with lots of charm.

My wife and I will be travelling from the US to the UK in June 2024. During that visit we want to visit my eldest brother, who has lived in Leven for 40 years. He recommended the New Inn. I have emailed them on 2 occasions, without getting a reply. I have called them on 3 different occasions, only getting an answering machine. Their website does not allow a person to book a room, you have to call or email. I now have to book a hotel in Beverley, where I hope the response will be much better. This is simply lack of good management, bad manners or simply lack of interest.

Went as an extended family for mother's day .as we eat here on a regular basis we knew what to expect as Sunday lunches are always very good .everything was as expected until we reached the "free" deserts for mums.4 mums were in our party but they decided to give/share the deserts with the children, which is pretty common .however they put three deserts on the bill as the mums had given them away .2 of these were removed off the bill after some hassle but it should not matter who eats what .free is free .very annoyed with this as regular visitors here .

Was staying at a local caravan site with our dog and wanted Sunday lunch with sport so we could watch the football. Called The New Inn and was told dog was allowed in and they had football showing. Nice food, nice atmosphere with friendly staff, and dog friendly which was a real bonus. We are looking to site our caravan permanently just up the road so will be returning here without a doubt.

There was a long wait for the food to say it wasn't particularly busy. The food was average and it would have been much better with proper chips instead of frozen ones and the steak was very tough with loads of fat. The real disappointed was the desert and i think they had been left for some time as the ice cream has melted and the hot dessert was cold and i could only eat the edges. I mentioned this to the waitress who didnt seemed bothered. This has put me off coming back.

Writing on behalf friends who travelled from Hertfordshire for my wife's 60th birthday. Avoid room 4 at all costs, they virtually had no sleep last night 2nd September. I was supposed to be meeting them for breakfast today, sadly, due to such a poor room, dreadfully uncomfortable bed, they left at 05.30am and are now back home. I will not be recommending any of our friends to stay over again. While the food is lovely, the rest leaves a lot to be desired. Apologies for the Neg review, you guys need to be aware so to try and build your business in these testing times.....

Maybe we were unlucky and got a bad night, but overall experience was disappointing. We had a large family group for evening dinner. Our waitress was really great. It is a nice pub. But our meal experience was very disappointing. Far too long 2 hour wait for our mains. Food was a mixed experience, from ok to poor. Mixed Indian was particularly bad when it finally came. Overall disappointing experience after reading other good reviews and having higher expectations. Unfortunately would stop us going again, but hopefully our experience is isolated and we were unlucky.

We booked for a table of 14 for half 6 and sadly didn’t receive the food till about half 8, although it was amazing and the waitress was working very hard to cater for our large group. But because we had booked, we had expected service to be quicker as they knew we would be coming. They did give us a discount by removing one of the meals for the long wait. Overall, the food was really lovely but the wait was just a bit too long.

Visited the New Inn on a Saturday for a bite of lunch. It's a nice looking building from the outside and it's warm and welcoming inside. Plenty of parking too. Food was really good, decent choice of drinks and everything pretty good value for money. The New Inn had a real 'locals' vibe about it but whereas this can sometimes mean you feel uncomfortable as a non-local, this wasn't the case here - very comfortable and relaxed atmos. Should say, the staff were brilliant too.

The New Inn is a lovely old Georgian pub. We pre-booked a table for Sunday lunch and glad we did as restaurant was busy. Staff were really friendly throughout and Covid measures followed. My husband went for a Sunday roast of pork - great that you could request either a large, medium, small and even a giant Yorkshire pud version. They also had a vegetarian choice of veggie sausages with all the veg and of course the all important Yorkshire pudding which were homemade and excellent. I was also offered veggie gravy too. We somehow managed to find room for a Sticky Toffee Pudding and custard each. Excellent value and we really enjoyed our Sunday lunch before heading off on our journey south back home.

Even in these strange times, food should be appealing and well cooked. Whilst my friends enjoyed their fish and chips, my meal was just plain weird! Flat mushroom (tiny) with a small slice of Brie served alongside roast veg and a Yorkshire pudding??? I think it was masquerading as a veggie Sunday lunch but was about as appealing as my walking boot! Upon questioning, I was met with ‘well, nobody else has complained’. They were obviously too polite!! We shall not return.

Sunday lunch- easily booked online and a very warm welcome We visited with our 2 dogs- no problems there. All covid guidance strictly adhered to - we felt very safe.Hubby chose haddock goujons - very fresh fish with a light batter.Roast beef dinner for myself and roast beef and pork dinner for hubby. Both meats were cut from joints served with mash and roast potatoes, a selection of vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.Only criticism I would have would be perhaps to have more than one small floret of broccoli.I m always disappointed with desserts so usually avoid them but I decided to try the chocolate fudge cake with ice cream- it was a good sized portion served with 2 scoops of ice cream. It did not disappoint!Soft drinks and the food came to a respectful £38.It was lovely to chat with the owners and the atmosphere was good.Very pleasant experience and one we will repeat.Thank you

All of the staff at The New Inn worked so hard with us ahead of our special day to make sure everything was right. We didn't do all of the 'traditional' wedding stuff in the same order as expected, and nothing we wanted to do was too much to ask. They tailored everything to us and they could not have done more. We were able to give our guests an option of what food they wanted, which meant that everybody liked what they had. The food was just amazing and big portions too, so amazing value. They helped us organise everything and even had suggestions for decorations and the DJ. The transition from day to night was seamless and the space was perfect for people to either sit and have a drink and a chat or have a dance. Our day was perfect and that was made possible by the guys at New Inn. We've been back for a meal already and it was just as good as we remember. We will definitely be there more regularly than our wasitlines will probably thank us for! 5 stars every day of the week.

Looking through the various pub grub locally it appeared that the New Inn had the same fare as those about but at half the price. So as the rain started to come down we had a couple of pints in a reasonably busy and nicely furnished pub.I had the chicken and mushroom pie with mash and peas and my wife the chicken burger which came with all the trimmings which just about defeated her. On our first visit three weeks ago, we had chosen the only Saturday when the kitchen was closed as there was a birthday party that afternoon with a BBQ. However, we had walked from Beverley to Leven via the river and canal and planned to have lunch. As one of the party is type 1 diabetic so it was important for them to eat. The management were very accommodating and made some bacon rolls. We planned to do the walk again this time to get a proper lunch, and today was the day. So pleased we did, once again the staff were very friendly and made us very welcome. We had ordered our food and had a bit of a wait but thought nothing of this as fresh food takes time. A member of staff came over to our table and apologised for the long waiting time, and offered us complimentary drinks. When the food arrived shortly after it was well worth waiting for, both the presentation and taste were excellent, and the food was also cooked perfectly.I have to say that for the price the lunch was superb, and we would recommend to both family and friends, and will be making a return visit ourselves.

Whilst holidaying in Leven, The New Inn was recommended to us for lunch. Lovely pub, spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and furnished with modern and comfy furniture. Staff is chatty, helpful and friendly. We both chose a chicken balti curry with rice and salad (my husband had chips as well) from a varied and tasty menu. Food arrived quickly and was excellent. Disappointingly we were too full to manage a dessert but perhaps next time. Prices are extremely reasonable with two meals for £12. It was my birthday and we were staying in Leven, we had heard good things about the New Inn and I really wished we hadn't. 15 minutes to get the drinks we ordered, then after ordering our food we waited a further 10 minutes to be told they did not have two of the choices. So I had fish chips and mushy peas, fish overcooked, mushy peas came in a very small condiment ramekin the sort of tiny bowl you put mustard in, literally one table spoon. Two of our party ordered medium rare steaks and both without doubt were well done. Now this is where I have a little advice for the cook, get a job at McDonalds’ for a year, they will pay for your training, then work your way back up the ladder and start cooking steaks after a few years. One of our party ordered her steak with potatoes and it came with chips, we alerted the waitress to this and she took the chips from the plate at the table, we waited 8 minutes for the microwaved bullets to arrive. This is a pub that is trying to be something it isn't, they need to go back to basics, charge prices befitting the quality of the food not the overpriced menu they have laughingly thrown together. And last but not least, coax a chef from a fast food restaurant to teach you how to cook food or buy a James Martin book.

Having visited here around 3 years ago and very much enjoying it we were looking forward to trying the food again.First impressions were good as the restraunt area has been re vamped. We ordered drinks and browsed the menu and we said the same thing,at these prices it better be good,I ordered the fish and chips with garden peas and homemade tartar sauce, and my wife had the pork loin and our friend the chicken. The food arrived and my fish although tasty would best be described as a medium portion and the tartar sauce came in a sachet?? At £13 was not good value. With my wife and friend offering meat dishes they came with roasted veg,the veg came on a long thin plate and consisted of one very small bit of broccoli at one end and a bit of chopped up carrot at the other, both plates of veg would have cost pennies to buy in a shop and frankly looked ridiculous served in such a way,my wife said the pork and the sauce were very nice but could easily have managed the same portion again due to it being so small, our friend left half her chicken saying it was too dry.I passed on a pudding,my wife ordered the brownie and our friend the cheesecake, again both sweets were very small with the bottom of the brownie burnt and the cheesecake frozen in the centre?? When you are paying restraunt prices the food has to be much better than this.We also noticed that people who had nothing to do with the food were constantly walking in and out of the kitchen which is not just unprofessional but also unhygienic and also nearly resulted in an accident when the waitress was coming out with food. All in all very disappointing.

I had high hopes for our meal here our friend had dined her several times before and said it was good. We contacted the restaurant before hand as my daughter is Vegan to find out what was in the vegan curry as she doesn't like lentils and as we were dining with friends to tell them what time our reservation was for. Whilst waiting for other members if our party we ordered drinks, oh, but they had no white wine.... what pub/restaurant runs out of white wine.... not a good start. When we were ready to order we were also informed there were no steaks or chicken as they had been busy at lunch time. Orders placed, starters arrived, no problems, the main courses came out and my friends fish dish took what seemed like forever to arrive, in fact we had almost finished eating our main courses when the fish meal arrived and then my friend had to ask for a hammer to open the lobster claw that came with it. When it came to desserts, we asked the waitress were they any desserts suitable for vegans and what the Jam Rolly Polly was made of, she came back asking did the vegan drink milk? cos all the deserts had milk in! and that the Jam Rolly Polly was made with suit pastry... so we then asked was it beef suit or vegetable suit! It was made with vegetable suit and came with custard, so suitable for the vegetarain in the party but not the vegan, however when it arrived for £4.95, I thought it was poor value, three bites and it was gone. Considering they knew for definite they had a vegan eating in the restaurant, it was really disappointing that there were no suitable starters or desserts..... so I suppose it was good for the waistline!! When we mentioned this to the manager/owner the response was "sorry we didn't think" If you are going to put a Vegan main course on your menu, you should at least do the same for starters and desserts.

We came for a meal last night with our friends for a birthday celebration. The food (steak Diane x3 and a fish pie) was absolutely amazing! The staff were attentive and even lit some candles and put some birthday confetti out as requested. Very enjoyable meal. Thankyou

Booked for the special fish night that was being held. The menu sounded good and because if was a special evening pre-ordering was requested. We were not disappointed the smoked lobster was exquisite. Everything about the evening was well presented. Will certainly be booking again.

This evening myself and family had a wonderful time at The New Inn!6 of us had a roast (beef we all chose) sadly no turkey on the menu which I would personally have preferred turkey or chicken but non the less the beef was the best I've ever eaten! The ladies who had the seafood curry said that it was fantastic! All food was very well priced as well as the drinks! I would really recommend giving this place a go! (Also the desserts are must!)

A great Sunday lunch good local beef and pork with al dente vegetables - a nice Malbec - light fluffy Yorkshire puddings all for £7-99 or £8-99 for a large portion - you need to book to get into the dining room or you can eat in the bars - the middle bar has Sky TV and a loudish juke box and very happy customers - possibly the other bar is quieter - otherwise nicely decorated with friendly and efficient front of house staff and obviously a good chef - worth the short detour off the main road into the village

Very Tasty Sunday Lunch. A choice of Beef, Pork or Turkey. Medium or Large. My husband and I chose Medium Beef it was served with homemade Yorkshire pudding and plenty of fresh vegetables.I would advise to book beforehand, the dining room was fully booked but they suggested we could have our meal in the bar.We hadn't been to the New Inn for about 2 years. They have done a really good job of refurbishment. The management and staff were really friendly. Good atmosphere. I would highly recommend.

Visited for the first time and we were really impressed with the quality and service. Staff were very friendly and made you feel very welcome. It was rather quiet but we had gone early. It did liven up before we left. There was a good range of food available and we chose the steak and the pork. They were both delicious . Well presented and beautifully seasoned. The carrots were especially good. Sadly the meal wad so substantial there was no room for a dessert although my husband managed the spotted dick which looked rather grand.I would highly recommend a visit and considering we live only in the next village we will certainly be going again . I think we may try a Sunday lunch.

We was recommended to this place by 2 people. On arrival Sunday we found that the decoration was excellent, room pleasant, light and airy. pity the food wasn't in the same category. The complaints are as follows, starter menu lacked soup, prawn cocktail. we had the pate which was spoilt by lack of bread and minute amount of butter and no salad cream for the salad. the main course my wife ordered, roast beef, beef so tough you could sole your shoes with it. i had belly pork which was like rubber as crackling were done right served on a bed of cold potato. the dessert menu had 2 items on it which were out of stock, surely these could of been removed from a chalkboard.

Went for my Dad's birthday, my mum rang up and enquired about disabled access, we were told they had a ramp at the side of the building. When we arrived the ramp had about a 2 inch lip from the floor. That made its hard to get up and down. Once at the top...There's a step into the building. Not only that the turning space was too small. My dad would never have got in that way. We had to take him back down the ramp and through the main entrance. There was only a small step to get up. We managed that and the staff helped us with the doors. We were placed near the door by the ramp. Which was fine when we arrived however because we didn't leave that way, we had to disturb two tables of other dinning guests to get my dad out. This is at all not reflection on the staff as they were very helpful and accommodating. It's just a shame that the disabled access isn't better. The food was very good we all enjoyed all of our meals, my dad's pudding did have a bit of plastic in. We were offered a replacement but as he had practically finished it, he refused and it was taken off the menu.We will return as we now know what access is like, the food was of a good quality, and the staff were fabulous.

This was the first time we had visited here since it was taken over. What a surprise, fabulous refurbishments in both bar and restaurant, lovely smiley waitress who has taken ownership on with her partner. The food was superbly cooked and well presented. Everyone eating in the restaurant were saying how good their meals were. Definitely a place to visit whether you're a local or just passing through. We wish the young owners every success .

We had no booking on Sunday but were very warmly received on arrival. The service was extremely friendly and professional and the food excellent - and plenty of it! It's the first time we have been and it most certainly won't be the last, especially as the prices are very reasonable.

Quite by accident we found ourselves at the New Inn at Leven. what a pleasant surpris! The bar was warm and welcoming, the restaurant served delicious and beautifully presented food. We stayed the night and had a lovely quiet room (despite all the activity at the bar!) and one of the best sleeps ever, in the morning followed with a delicious cooked breakfast. Prices are very reasonable. Management and staff are welcoming, courteous and friendly. couldn't recommend it more highly,

My husband and I went for lunch on Sunday and decided to have a meal from the extensive menu. I had Ham hock terrine, delicious and my husband had the scallops, cooked to perfection. For main course we both chose the pork loin in cider sauce. Compliments to the chef as it's the best meal I have had for a very long time. Thank you to Adrian for looking after us, even getting us a lovely New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to accompany our meal. Definitely recommend and we can't wait to go back.

My husband and I decided to try The New Inn on the back of a recommendation from a friend who lives not far from the village (Leven) who has raved about the Chef after his fish night that he put on. We decide to try it out Friday for our wedding anniversary so there was a lot riding on it, We Have dined in many Michelin star restaurants all over the country and I can say without any hesitation the food we received would not of been out of place in any of them. The Scallops where to die and well presented and my steak was perfect as for the monkfish my husband had he has not stopped talking about it.You really need to try this place before word gets out how good it is, everything works, Talented Chef with vision , the menu, service, the decor and amazing value. well done The New Inn

I wanted a small intimate wedding reception away from mainstream hotels and bars. Having seen the recent refurbishment and having family in the area I decided to hold my reception here. Mivvi and Craig were extremely accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. The room looked amazing! Romantically lit by candles and a lovely warm ambiance. The food was superb!!! I was totally over the moon with how well organised and friendly the whole experience was. Anyone looking to hold a small function (ours was 48 guests during day and 100 evening) should consider the New Inn. Excellent value without being ripped off by hotel prices and I'd say a better experience by far!! Amazed by the standard of the food despite having to cater for a large number of guests. A genuinely warm welcome by the management and exceptional food! Well worth a visit!!

Moved close to the village in May and have watched as this young couple have worked tirelessly to turn a building well in need of a refurb into a lovely place with a fantastic chef. Chef is a new addition apparently and can he cook! We Had scallops and pigeon as starters. held my breath as I have had both over done in the past. Both cooked absolutely faultlessly. Had steak with blue cheese and a vegetarian Wellington for my partner. Once again fantastic. 2 x home made salted caramel ice cream cheesecakes. There would have been fighting if we had got one to share! My God. You've got to try that! 2 x cask ales. 3 course for 2 and 2 pints of ale for £50. Couldn't believe the value. Yes the pipe and glass is Michelin starred and deservedly so , I've been going for 8 years but support this local up and coming gem. Support Craig and Mivvi (hope I spelled this correctly) to continue their hard work and of course sample this guys food! J and V.

We waited an hour for eggs and toast. Owner only cared about Door Dash orders going out the door. Given that Courtenay has so many great casual dining places, give this one a pass. Give your business to restaurants that care about providing good service to their customers.

Went today for lunch , I decided i was having soup , they said it was the last portion so that was fine , I asked for no bread which , when it came it was the smallest half bowl of soup for £6.25 , I didn’t want anything knocking off for not having the bread but did expect a full dish, looking at the menu I could of had a small breakfast, or sandwich for about the same price , it’s soup where do they get over £6 for it!!
