I compete with my dogs all around the country . So last week my wife and I found this lovely place !! Then by chance a week later we were not far from this gold mine . So we stayed again . Lovely rooms , stunning food and hospitality. Ive stayed in some nice places with poor food & visa versa . This I can say is just brilliant and more .

The best Sunday Cardey I’ve ever had. Staff were all so lovely and helpful with my young kids. Todd the waiter was lovely and Sue the chef makes the best roast ever. Also the apple and plum crumble was the best I’ve ever had . Toilets very clean and outside area lovely too. Plenty of parking Would recommend to anyone.

Made a last minute booking to stay here for our trip to Monkey World the following day. What a find, the friendliest of welcomes and personally shown to our room above the pub, very clean and tidy! Decided to eat at the pub for ease, beautiful setting and locally sourced food which was cooked to absolute perfection! I wish we had been staying longer, but will definitely be back

We checked the reviews before booking and we weren't disappointed. We booked a table of five for Sunday lunch. As soon as we walked in we were met by a member of staff, with a friendly smile. We were seated promptly and attended to throughout our meal. One family member is vegetarian and their nut roast was cooked freshly as we ordered our drinks before going up to get our carvery. The food and service were something l haven't experienced in a while at a pub and restaurant in Kent where we live. The staff were really busy and continued to be professional and helpful throughout our stay.

Visited this evening for the first time for an evening meal - it’s a wonderful hidden gem of Dorchester. Service excellent and food wonderful. Starters we had mushrooms and skewers which were really tasty and well presented. Mains were burger and chicken caprese salad - everything was delicious and beautifully presented and good portions so sadly no room for pudding! Gorgeous pub with country views. Will definitely return.

We've travelled from Ferndown to visit the New Inn twice now and absolutely love it. The pub is very attractive on the outside, although a little dated on the inside. Parking is ample and the outside eating area is lovely with gorgeous views of the countryside. The food had been fabulous on both occasions. We can't wait to go back for the Fish and Chips, which our friend had, and scored it 10/10. The staff are very friendly. They even do Alpaca walks and 2 impeccably behaved and clearly house trained Alpacas came into the pub which was very amusing. There is an accommodation block which looks lovely and the entire place is very clean. The chef had nicely pressed whites which we feel reflects his standards in the kitchen, so role on another visit!

Friendly greeting. Rang ahead and said we had to be at a wedding by 1.30 so they went the extra mile and asked housekeeping to get our room ready first so we were able to check in early and get to the wedding venue in good time. Much appreciated! Returned at 9.30. Our room (Garden View) overlooked the garden seating area so as it was a lovely warm evening it was a little noisy with friends chatting and laughing below so we went for a night cap and it was all quiet by just after 10:45pm. Room was good size, very large double bed with comfortable mattress and nice cotton linen. Kettle provided with a good choice of teas, decaf and ordinary coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits too. NOTE TO HOTEL; more sockets needed. I had to crawl under the desk to plug in my phone charger and hair styler. Large shower, individual bottles of shampoo/conditioner and shower gel plus small soaps and shower caps. Lovely thick white towels and a bath mat. TV has extensive range of channels, best range I’ve seen in a hotel. Satellite channels too. Very good breakfast, nicely cooked. I would recommend this hotel. I would book it again.

We had a fantastic couple of days stay at The New Inn. We were greeted by Jack who showed us our room which was adequately spacious, clean and tidy. We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant and I could not mention anything that was a problem. All meals were served promptly by friendly waiting staff. They have a lovely seating area with fantastic views of the surrounding Dorset countryside. We were finally served by Leanne on our final morning, another friendly and efficient member of staff. Well done everyone.

Have used the New Inn and the Black Dog for many years now as we eat out every evening on holiday, we usually alternate between the two pubs. We visited the New Inn on 2nd June 24 and were very disappointed with the food and service, we were served by a young girl who made it obvious she didn't want to serve us, she never asked us how the food was and didn't ask us if we wanted desserts so we left after our main course. Had to wait ages for two dishes to come out and the third arrived as these two were eaten. The food was not up to scratch either all our meals were not as good as their sister company the Black Dog. So we did not visit the New Inn again but went to the Black Dog around 6 times. I know if Jack had been on this night our service would have been good as he knows us well from previous years. So we have removed the New Inn from our small list of good eateries after some 12 years! Such a shame how a place like this can go down.

Very nice room, set up with all the things you could need. I had a 3 course dinner, primarily because the menu was so tempting, and was not disappointed, and the breakfast was fine. We stayed at the new inn for one night ahead of visiting the tank museum. A week before arrival we received an email to say check in is only between 1.30-2.30pm and then 5.30pm-10.30pm. Unfortunately we missed the early checkin slot but were able to park up and get a bus into Dorchester city center for the bus stop opposite. After checking in in the evening we stayed for a drink in the pub. A cosy relaxed atmosphere where 2 pints costs ~£12 (maybe a little pricey considering small village pub). Our room was spacious and clean, you can tell parts of the bathroom are dated but all was functional. The bed was comfy and plenty of tea/coffee/milk was supplied. Breakfast the next morning (which was included) was great. You were offered tea or coffee as well as an apple or orange juice. There was a menu to pick from which included a cooked breakfast, vegetarian cooked breakfast, various egg based breakfast dishes, cereal, porridge. A lovely stay overall.

The service was exceptional. I called earlier in the day to ask if they had dairy and wheat free Yorkshire puddings, which they didn’t, but when we arrived we were told they’d made them especially for me! I was blown away by the service and the carvery was delicious too. We had 3 under 2 who the serving staff were lovely to and gave them colouring in without us asking. Best service I’ve had.

Not eating meat we can find it difficult to find places with a decent choice. Not all of us want to eat burgers and other fake meat whenever we go for a meal - there's so much variety to be had with fish and vegetables. The staff here were so accommodating, sharing their latest menu by email and then switching nights for us when Storm Isha made it risky to leave our coastal accommodation. The food was excellent and the service very friendly.

Unfortunately our lunch was spoilt by several families allowing their children to run unsupervised around the tables, screaming and shouting. Not the pub’s fault. The staff smiled and carried on even when carrying hot food and having to negotiate the chaos. I guess the staff don’t want to say anything to the families but it is really unfair on other paying customers. We didn’t stay for dessert as couldn’t wait to leave. Pity as the food and service was good.

Read some really good reviews regarding the Sunday carvery so decided to book a table. The place itself is lovely, the staff are all friendly & polite. The carvery was one of the best we have had. The beef and pork were cooked to perfection. Both tasted amazing. The meat is pure quality. We both realised that the pork we buy in the supermarkets simply doesn't taste like pork should. This tastes like pork used to taste, before supermarkets fooled our taste buds. The crackling on the pork was perfect, crunchy but not rock hard. The sad fact is that we now realise just how average the carvery meals back home are. We took at look at the menu whilst there and are planning a return mid week.

This was a recommendation by the Black Dog in Broadmayne who were overwhelmed with customers. Less than 5 minutes later we’d found Knighton and were welcomed in to a warm cosy dining room and bar by Nick. He was brilliant, suggested the red wine for me and Nuttycombe ale for Rob. Nick was great, gave us the menus and invited us to sit wherever we felt most comfortable. The menu was interesting with some different dishes we hadn’t seen in other hostelries so it was fun choosing. I plumped straight for the Faggots with red onion mash, super little pea shoots and a red wine gravy. It was mouthwatering, beautiful pork, great flavours and perfect texture so absolutely superb. Rob had some wonderfully fragrant ham, a couple of eggs and scrummy chips - the best he’s had for about 8 months. The portions were plentiful and yet again we had to forgo the puddings. Nick was later joined by Todd who told us lots of interesting snippets about the location and history of the location and all about how the New Inn had developed and what a buzzing place to work, with great colleagues and chefs, celebrating the great food and drinks that all visitors love. Thanks folks for serving us a great taste of Dorset Will definitely lunch here again although I’d like to have several starters between us and then go straight to the sweets…

We had dinner at The New Inn to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The restaurant is clean with a lovely ambience. Servers are smartly dressed and were professional and friendly. My husband's lamb shank was delicious. Unfortunately my sirloin steak was rare (I had asked for medium rare) and gristly. On bringing this to our waitress' attention she apologised and asked if I would like another steak or a different meal. I chose a very flavourful cheese and garlic stuffed chicken with a wild mushroom sauce. Perfect customer service from this waitress and much appreciated. On paying our bill two of our drinks were complementary, a nice and unexpected response. Thank you to everyone at The New Inn, we appreciate you.

We were visiting the area over the weekend for our 20th Wedding anniversary. We stayed in one of their holiday lets, a gorgeous cottage a stones throw from the New Inn. We popped in to book our table for the evening and the barman was knowledgeable on the local beer, Badger which tasted great. We arrived for dinner and the restaurant was quite full, the staff were very attentive and the manager Stacey was very helpful. We were guided to our table which was dressed with small hearts and an anniversary candle, nice touch! The food didn’t disappoint! As a well travelled Chef myself I can honestly say the food was superb. We had the Faggots which were fresh and tasty and a rich red wine jus. All in all I would highly recommend The New Inn. And what a great place to spend a special weekend. ❤️💕

We loved our stay and would return no question. One negative, aesthetically if it was mine I would hide all the bins and dirty washing rather than have it on display.

We are local and can honestly say this place is a gem. The menu has a few pub classics but the rest is seasonal fresh cooked fayre which is beautifully served. Last night was busy in the restaurant, but our meals were spot on and service good. Whilst other diners may have moaned about delays, I think 2 hours to enjoy 3 courses is perfectly acceptable. No real criticism regarding the accommodation in it is quite nice but it's in a sleepy little hamlet miles away from Dorchester. We spent our evening in the bar and restaurant, which was pleasant but we were hoping to have had a little more nightlife. My fault for not doing my research but, definitely not somewhere I would stay again. On the plus side the meal was nice and the room cosy. I think the room was overpriced.

First trip back to the local pub after lockdown and Stacey and the team have done a great job and worked hard to be able to reopen. We only went for a main course and a quick drink but ended up staying for a three course meal each and a few more drinks. The pork belly divine, Thai Green Curry spot on and the ginger stem pudding amazing. All home made and all delicious.Get back out and support your local as we will be doing as much as we can.Thank you team

We booked a lunchtime table on the last day of freedom prior to the 2nd lockdown. The meal was very enjoyable. We received good service from affable staff. The restaurant was very covid safe with sanitising and table spacing. We will no doubt return.

This is one of our favourite restaurants. We had lunch there on Friday with friends for my birthday, then we had lunch there yesterday for my husbands birthday. On both occasions the food was excellent, presentation 1st class and staff very professional. We can’t wait till we can visit again. To all the staff thank you and take care and hopefully we will see you all soon.

Had a lovely Sunday morning walk before going to the New Inn for an excellent Roast dinner. The beef was beautiful and lots of delicious vegetables. The environment was very COVID safe and the staff excellent. Well done, somewhere we felt safe to enjoy the great food.

Booked at this restaurant after a recommendation from a friend. Very impressed with the standard of food. Service was very good and checked in with us just enough to make sure we were happy. Two had the carvery and one had steak, timing of advising to go to the carvery and the arrival of the steak was just right. Variety of desserts, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you very much for making my mother in laws birthday just right!

We were after a couple of nights away and searched the internet and found The New Inn and it was a great find. It’s very CV19 safe the great we had was the family room and it was brilliant modern clean and nice. The bar area is good and the food is very acceptable. Give it a go I’m glad we did!

Great find off the beaten track . Plenty of parking space .Covid friendly with tables well spaced . Cheesy garlic bread to start , yummy. We both went for the steak in creamy pepper sauce with all the trimmings the home made wedges particularly good . Steak was cooked perfectly as asked . Only negative would be the steak was on the small side for the price . Finished off with the desserts panna cotta and cheesecake well presented . Well fed.

We stayed for only two nights but would definitely return. The food at the New Inn was innovative and homely and kept us coming back in the evenings to see what was new. The staff are wonderful - friendly, attentive, and courteous. You could tell each of them were focused on ensuring guests were having the best experience possible. The building is lovely and all rooms individually designed and well kept. The New Inn took very serious precautions for COVID-19 with a one-way systems around the premises, single use condiments, masks etc. The rooms were all properly sterilised.

It's a nice looking resteraunt in a lovely village and we were looking forward to a great meal to finish off a cracking week in Dorset. The staff appeared to be very busy but were very pleasant and provided very good service. We were disappointed that the online menu did not match the actual menu available in the evening. It's not difficult to advertise the correct choices on a website, is it? Having said that, the menu actually presented seemed ok. Starters went down well. Main course was a mixed bag: the fish pie was bland and the crab tasted like it was tinned - definitely not fresh, as one would expect near the coast. The duck was received very well indeed and the cajun sea bass with noodles was very tasty. The choice of dessert was quite lazy, compared to the online menu but the creme brulle was ok. Overall, the food was ok but I would have expected much better quality for the price.

Went here for an evening meal and really enjoyed some great food. The chef gets good reviews and I can understand why.The atmosphere, even with distancing in place, was good and the staff very pleasant. It is owned by the same people as the Black Dog in the next village over, as we found out when eating there the following evening. If you can't get in one try the other as the food is comparable in both.

Good social distancing and service. Reduced menu but we enjoyed the baked Cod and the duck dish together with starters of squid and filo tart. The last day of the ‘Eat out to help out’ which was a bonus. Will definitely be back.

We arrived, and we thought the pub was closed. It was bank holiday but the pub was empty. We sat in the garden which was rather unkempt. We ordered drinks and snacks but the snacks were forgotten. We wanted to order some food but couldn’t sit outside to eat due to the wasps. We moved inside and the food arrived which was fine. The condiments were of poor quality which is not what I would expect. This is just a false economy and really lowers the standard. The wasps could do with being addressed and the garden needs a mow. The lad behind the bar was really helpful but the waiting staff were all rather distracted by each other.

Having got horribly lost and then confronted with a road closure, I arrived embarrassingly late for a lunch meeting with a colleague. I need not have worried, as we were made to feel instantly welcome by a charming young lady at the bar, who immediately showed us to our table. Both my colleague and I felt immediately at home and we couldn't have wished for a more accommodating or friendly start to our visit. This was my first meal out since lockdown and I admit to being a little anxious, but I needn't have worried: the New Inn wears all its requirements with the new world regulations lightly. The food was splendid and nicely presented and the service was first-class. However, special mention should be given to the two younger members of staff, as their personable and friendly manner and attentive service were exemplary. I will certainly make a return visit.

Drove 20 miles encouraged by Tripadvisor and the menus on the pub's own website.Sat down and looked at the single sheet laser printed menu and actually went and looked to check I had the right place. Our menu bore no resemblance to the very interesting website menu. The specials board was blank. Service was slow and unsmiling. When it came the food was acceptable but showed little flair. Two courses took over an hour and we gave up on desert and left.I don't know but I could guess the chef was on holiday or has left, one of the waitresses seemed to be a school girl and there was a general air of no-one in charge.Perhaps they had problems or are more interested in their B&B business, but that was their problem and should not have been mine.I'm not sure if this is just their interpretation of the rules but they had locked a main door open and opened several windows on a cool and cloudy day. Other restaurants don't seem to find this necessary.I'm sorry to be so negative and normally review only when I can say something good, but I felt so mislead here that I want to caution other diners.

We took advantage last night of the Eat out to help out scheme and booked a table in the bar as we have a small dog. On arrival it was clear to see the Covid precautions were clearly marked out and it felt a very safe environment to be in.We had garlic bread to start with, followed by Pork Belly, which had a wonderful accompaniment of black pudding, and new potatoes in a apple jus with baby onions and the most amazing crackling! My husband had a chicken dish with a basil mash, the only fault he could find was there was it was seasoned with quite a lot of pepper and when mentioned he was immediately offered a replacement but he elected to carry on.Both meals were very tasty indeed, service was excellent. We could see that the scheme was proving very popular as more and more people turned up and the phone was ringing with attempted bookings. I would highly recommend a visit, we will most certainly be back, this wasn't our first visit and were lucky enough to be local. It is definitely worth ringing in advance to book, especially if on this scheme.

Visited yesterday for early dinner.Truly excellent food, very very well cooked and presented; with prompt, friendly and polite staff. Once again. This is NOT chain pub boring, bland unimaginative food, served by couldn't care less staff. This is high quality gourmet meals prepared with care by excellent chefs and served by staff who are actually enthusiastic. Most refreshing. Highly recommended!

It took an hour between ordering our meal and it arriving. I rarely eat steak so I was really looking forward to my sirloin. Unfortunately it was not good quality, at £24 I don't expect a mouth full of gristle and fat. For very ordinary pub food it is overpriced.

Sunday lunch was not very good. Waiter ate food and drank at the bar constantly. Emptied bins and didn't wash his hands. Chef sat at the bar in between orders. Food arrived and was tasteless, meat tough and when asked for cranberry sauce the waiter arrived with a plastic tub to serve it!

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support

Very friendly village pub with good quality, reasonably priced food. Delicious homemade biscuits/chocolates with coffee. Welcome dogs even when wet. Highly recommend.
