The New Hen & Chickens Bar & Grill in Sandwell

A party of 20 decided to meet here as it was central for everyone( family travelled from up north and further down south) We were warmly greeted upon entering and the staff made us all feel comfortable. The waiters were extremely helpful and patient. We ordered a variety of food ranging from mixed grills, both veg and non-veg to different curries. The portion sizes are very generous and any leftovers we packed up to take home. The bar staff are excellent and the lady even made up a special cocktail for the birthday girl. Respect to the kitchen staff who very kindly chopped up a couple of onions as one of lads got cravings for raw onions after the kitchen had closed. We definitely will be going back, mainly for the mixed grill as it’s the best I have had. Respect to all the staff, keep up the good work guys😎.

Has been a while since having food from here and how disappointing. Waited over a hour and half for delivery and food was cold when it arrived. Had ordered 2 different curries which came unlabelled and couldn't tell the difference between them. Absolutely the worst curry I have had and ended up in the bin. Will never order from here again.

Started with our usual large mixed grill, everything on it was fantastic. Having free poppadoms was a nice touch too. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and service was quick. We then had the clay pot curry, with rice and naan, it was all brilliant. Service was a little slower than other places but overall we will definitely be back.

Came for evening meal.not being for a while due to work commitments. I can say nothing as changed.quality of the food and service was excellent. Good portions of food and friendly atmosphere as always .was nice to come back and hopefully I will be comming back on a regular basics work permitted. We'll done guys.

I had chicken Jalfrezi medium strength. My Friend had the lamb Biryani...( medium ) Both were excellent! Lovely naan bread n rice. Really enjoyed our meals! Excellent chefs! Food...piping hot! Hen and chickens hill top west Bromwich , if you like your desi pubs this one is a belter. Mixed grill and curries up there with the best , you won't go far wrong here ,give it a try .

Came with a group to watch the sports last Saturday and all of us went for a few beers and the grill platter. Very enjoyable, well spiced and plentiful. We didn't have anything else but if the platter is anything to go by I'll try the other dishes as well. Was pleasantly surprised! Will return.

Visited many times over the last 2 years. Food excellent, as are the staff, including the bar staff. Makes it difficult to try anywhere else.

Went for tea on a Sunday evening with my wife and daughter. The food was lovely the fish pakora was the best I have had and would highly recommend it. The portions are great to. Great place

3 of us at around 4.30, about 5 tables occupied, by 7, completely full of diners. Ordered too much this time. Lovely food as before. Staff working hard and remaining pleasant. Bar staff as well. Being a Saturday, footie crowd arrived, ensuring a good atmosphere.

Strangest Indian experience ever. Food: 8/10 everything else: 0/10. We turned up at this pub seeing the usual spoons type crowd outside. Shirtless, smoking, staring. Walked in and no sanitiser. No staff doing anything remotely hygienic like washing hands, distancing, mask wearing. Absolutely none of that. Our Indian waitress even served the rice with her thumbs clearly in the bowl. Leaning right over us on multiple occasions. As did the English bar lady. She picked up empty glasses from the table, then went to make new drinks without washing hands at any point. Like the last 12 months didn’t even happen. Oh and there was a bit mark in the table numbers.

Ordered mix grill and biryani, lamb great taste and biig chunks you paid for, not skimpy like most takeaways will be our new regular now. FANTASTIC.

We went out for a meal before lockdown 2. The restaurant was very busy, which led to quite a long wait for food (understandable, this is not a complaint) the waitress we had was great, very friendly and helpful and the waitress behind the bar...

Food was good , £18 for 4 adults. Packed in like sardines though and took 50 minutes for the food to arrive at the table.

Not only are the curry’s fantastic the delivery driver was so honest UNBELIEVABLE we over paid with 2 £10 stuck together & he came back to give it us back Priceless used this restaurant for takeaway only & never had a problem love it thank...

Took 40 mins just for a plate of noodles when it was not even busy , rude staff do not recommend better options like railway inn around the corner

Very tasty food, friendly place, nice drinks. Price is reasonable, a nice selection of curries and other good dishes. Been many times and its always a positive outcome. The sauce is the stand out especially the poppadom sauce, good range. Will head back there again...

We booked a table on a Saturday night for 7:30 ,we arrived at 7:15 no table was available we sat down 20 minutes later and ordered straight away, the meals arrived 1 hour later, and after other tables that arrived after us were served first,...

Right to start off with was looking for a place to eat at 2.40 my local was closed so opted to call the hen and chickens no one auswered they called back and i asked what time they serving they said from 12 all day...

Currently suffering from food poisoning after eating at this restaurant earlier today, heard rave reviews about this place from friends but food was bland and apparently undercooked as I'm now finding out, much better places out there for the money we spent.

Popped in this evening to have a mixed grill takeaway .ordered my meal and was told I had a 30 -45 minutes wait! It was very busy in there Children where waiting in the car so i said I’ll cancel my order because it would...

So another place which thinks it is ok to throw boiled or steam cook meat into a watery curry sauce. We waited 90 minutes for 2 dishes. The place was not even half full. Saw 3 chefs who seem to be doing very little.

A great, friendly and welcoming place. The food is really high quality and the flavours are very authentic. We had to wait a little bit for the food but it was well worth it, you could tell it was all made from scratch and time...

Went there with friend couldn’t hear yourself speak far too much noise ordered food and after a long wait only part of the order was handed to us when asked were the rest of the order a blank look and then you never ordered anything...

The place is very good very clean the food is excellent and the staff are warm and friendly and if your food is going to be a bit later than you normally get your food they will tell you so that you are not left...

Great place for a family grill. The size of grills is what you’d expect and the lamb chops were soft and tender. Curries are 10/10 - we ordered 3 different curries and all were spot on especially the lamb rogan josh. Naans were soft and fluffy - really big and good value for money.

I visit The New Hen & Chickens regularly, sometimes with friends other times with my partner and the food is consistently good. It’s a very busy place, and at peak times you will have to wait for seating, and food orders can take quite a while to reach you, so be prepared for this. The menu is pretty extensive and I would give 5 stars for the curries, full of flavour and decent portion size. The mixed grills are hit & miss, and I really don’t believe they’re any different in taste to most other local Indian grill establishments. Sundries are good, and drinks are well priced. Staff are friendly and helpful. All in all a great place to eat. Keep up the good work guys.

Very nice meal food was cooked loverly and mild as I asked as I don't like too hot balti's. Good value for money and the drinks are cheap too which is a big bonus.

Visited here with friends for a birthday. There was about 16 of us and we all ordered separately but wanted food together, which was absolutely no bother, food all came out at same time. Lovely, fresh and hot. Gotta say i had a chicken bhuna and it was the best curry i had tasted! It waa hot and freshly made, tasty to the max. Definitely recommend this place !!

Been to many places like this but the food was far better than any I've had the flavours in my curry were so nice, the staff were friendly apart from the bar maid who was not rude or anything but just engaged in a conversation with her friends, jst a bit of advice to her and I mean this is the nicest way as the place is too good to have summat like this bring it down just go back to ur conversation wen customer has gone, I'm sure it was a one off but if I was an arsey person cud have took offence, keep up the good work, head chef did good

Visited with my wife on Monday 2nd Sept. Ordered mix grill, vegetarian noodles, chips and paneer sizzler. So they bring out poppadoms and salad with a choice of sauces.

Visited a few days ago. Ordered basic order for collection was told it would be ready in 30 mins. Got there after an hour and order was still not ready. They hadn't even started cooking it. Just kept saying a few more minutes. In the end I asked for my money back as I'd already payed. Very disappointed in poor customer service and the inconvenience I was caused. I won't be going back in a hurry.

Veen here a few times with family, I only write reviews based on a few visits. Not one. Its good value, great for families and quick on service. The mix grills are good too.

Visited here for the 1st time last night (17th July 2019). Had previously read lots of positive reviews on here and also been told by family and friends how good this place was. We arrived just before 7.30pm (table booking time) and noticed how very busy it was. Anyway we ordered food and were told it was a 45 minute wait for food. No problem as we knew it was all going to be cooked fresh. Free poppadoms were delivered to our table about 20 minutes later, and then the food arrived about 30 minutes later.

Went for a birthday party of 12. The starters and mixed grills were amazing. Portion sizes are substantial so order sensible... mains were very tasty and ended up bringing food back..

Curries and mixed grill are amazing. Can get busy at times but the waiting times are fine. We always come here as we know we will enjoy it

Have visited here a couple of times as an alternative to The Talbot down the road, the Hen & Chickens is slightly more expensive but the food is of a higher quality and the dinning area is very fresh and accomodating

First time and was surprised at how busy it was, lovely atmosphere, service good nothing was too much trouble. The starter we had to share was delicious The only thing that spoiled it was how salty our curries were I go for hot and spicy one but couldn't finish it due to the how salty it tasted and was the same for my friends and they had something different.

Amazing food, great flavour, and reasonably priced drinks. Only downside is the wait, sometimes up to an hour.

Go there quite regular with family and friends lovely food great atmosphere will be definitely goin again.

A lovely family atmosphere, very clean and welcoming, relaxing atmosphere, modern and the mix grill with the curries are full of flavour, will be going again soon.

We were very impressed with our visit to the Hen & Chickens. Nicely decorated and clean throughout. We ordered garlic lamb curry with pilau rice, chicken jalfrezi cooked medium hot with chips. Total bill came to just over £15. I went back up to the counter to order poppadoms and these were complimentary. The food was very good with the lamb tender and the jalfrezi a nice spicy kick to it. I worked it out that the bill was over a fiver cheaper than my local bar and grill.

I visit the new hen and chickens most Sundays with friends or family and can say the food is lovely, fresh and consistent the place is nice and always busy i recomend you book a table on a Sunday as it gets very busy they have big screens showing all sports and a separate bar area if u just fancy just a drink won’t go anywere else for my mix grill and curry’s as this place is hard to beat. The drink and food prices are very good and you get FREE papadums while your food is been cooked fresh! Try it and see!!

I visited this place with a group of six friends after hearing very good things about the food here. It was quite busy but we didn't have to wait long to be served. The staff were very attentive and explained items on the menu well but the best thing is the food! The tandoori mixed grill was amazing! Great flavours and a very large sized portion. All of us very happy with the food and will definitely be going back again.

As many establishments have the same name-gave this one in West Bromwich a try. Drinks menu fairly standard, no real ale. Spotless restaurant, if in a little clinical surroundings. Fairly varied menu at reasonable prices. Food excelled all expectations. So good it was difficult not to re-order.

went there yesterday considering only two of us in there service extremely slow but friendly, Food well my food wish had taken pictures, burnt nan, dry and no sauce on the chana masala, chips not cooked properly with what looked and tasted like a just thrown over out bottle Chinese sweet chilli sauce only good thing l can say about this experience is that the free poppadoms was ok and thanks for free bit limp salad was given if that's was even any constellation after the rest of aporlling food never ever go there again thank god.

We had a meal here recently and we were all pleased with the atmosphere especially if sports is your thing. Although there was a guy near our table who wasn't very considerate in his goal celebration otherwise 5 stars. The food was amazing and freshly prepared in an open kitchen. Very tasty and well priced. Drinks are also well priced so one could get fed and watered at a decent price. We will be returning soon.

Family visited for a late lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant entrance is at the side and on entering it was clean and the staff were friendly. We ordered couple of curries, kebabs and naans. We were given complimentary popadoms, salad and chutneys. All in all the price for food and drinks were reasonable, the portions were good and food was delicious. My family will definitely visit again. Would recommend The Hen & Chicken.

Wanted had a fish curry and when it was served it was too salty I don't like to argue so I left it but everytime I go it seems if they keep putting more sort in every time so now when I go in now I say no salt and then the food bang on the best dish for me that the energy used is a chilli prawns cost of £8 shopping in half and have it as a starter staffs very good service good very very clean

I love Desi pubs and I've been to a fair few but this is my new favourite. Friendly staff, very clean, and you can see the chefs cooking in the kitchen. We had popadoms, dips and salad. Then we had the large mixed grill. Which had amazing chicken tikka, sheek kebab, lamb chops, fish pakora(fish so white and flaky), and chicken wings. Every component was cooked brilliantly. Moist,tender and well flavoured, with a touch of heat. We had naan bread and chips to accompany, which were of a high standard. As we walked out we both said why haven't we been here before? We will definitely be back.

Fabulous service from all staff here at the hen and chickens. As a food lover like myself it was in my great interest to try the all new hen and chickens. I must admit as a Indian food lover this is one of the best Indian food restaurants around my local area. Would highly recommend this food place to my fellow friends, family and any one who is visiting the west Bromwich areas.

The food is excellent. The place can get busy, and it can be hard to find a table, but this is a good sign of a great place.

Used this place to watch a local football team on tv and eat st same time,this place has had a recent refurb and is very light and airy and comfortable seating, there were about 10 of us and we all agreed the food choice was great and the efficiency of the staff has to be commended, will we go back ? 100%. Just wish my team had the same review

Visited here for the first time and ordered a mixed grill. Was a bit disappointed in that the largest mixed they do it includes king prawns which are lovely but they only give you one!!! For the family mixed grill. The portion was good but nothing stood out really. Their chips are little Chinese tasting and masala chips aren’t all that nice either. Whilst it wasn’t horrible I don’t think I’ll return anytime soon

Before I start, Talbot, Red Lion, Spinny and The vine are better. This new hen and chickens is more suited for families. Minimum spend £10 on card, plot twist; you can’t order drinks and food in the same order. Yet a round (for 3) comes to less than £10 and a meal (rice, curry and Nan bread) come less than 10. No logic. Ordered food, paid and in which he replies “Just over an hour for food” which they should have mentioned prior to order. Limited rice and Nan breads and then when the food comes, it is average. Wouldn’t recommend for a group paying separate or on card, only couples and families. Book prior, parking can be difficult...

Visited when the champions league was on, at least 12 large screen TVs which makes watching sport while eating easy and enjoyable without having to twist and turn to view.

Did not have a good experience on the Takeaway, But eating in was better, have been there now for a few times and have enjoyed the visits.

I visit a lot of “Desi” pubs and the Hen & Chickens is one of my favourites! Foods always good and well priced, however it can take a while to come out of the kitchen sometimes however, as long as it’s fresh and tastes good I don’t mind waiting. Make sure you book a table especially of a Thursday/Friday/Saturday evening or you’ll struggle to get seated as it gets mega busy! This just shows the food must be good as there’s another grill pub 2 minutes down the road as well (equally as busy may I add). Would advise the lamb clay pot. Had one last night and I’m having one again today. Simpleh Lovleh.

Visited on a Tuesday night, in a group of 4 lads. Got there at 10pm thinking we were too late for food, but we were thankfully wrong.

Dead fly cooked into a biriyani. No apology given, simply offered to cook another portion. Now they’re harassing me on social media to take down my bad review.

Really struggled to find anything negative. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. The restaurant upstairs is spacious,modern and comfortable. Ordering food is easy and arrives without delay piping hot and fresh and well presented.

Its huge inside and and interesting mix of part pub part Indian restaurant.

Many curry pubs in the area so it has to be good to stand out and this one hits the mark. Good food at reasonable prices so always a winner!

Ordered a large mix grill and a chicken curry with Peshawari Naan. Well cooked and hearty portions. Only criticism would be the tandoori chicken can be a little dry but overall for under £10/head excellent.

I like to try all the Desi pubs and had been recommended The H & C so I gave it a try. Had a large mixed grill and a chicken jalfrezi. Complimentary popadoms salad and dips which were very good came quickly. Then all though it wasn't busy had to wait about 30 minutes for the meal. The fish pakora was good as was the chicken wings but the rest of the grill, lamb chops, seekh kebabs and chicken tikka were dry and appeared to be over cooked but not charred. Chicken jalfrezi was just in a sauce no onion peppers or fresh chilli. The waiting staff and barmaid were very good let down by the kitchen.

Took wife and 2 year old daughter here for lunch on friday 27th July 2018 as recommended by my boss as he is a regular. lovely looking place not too far from me and was not busy at all so thought we would be speedily served and looked after. how wrong i was.

Been here a few times we love it! I usually have chicken tikka jalfrezi or the salmon tikka portions are good, staff friendly It does get busy but we’ve never had to wait too long. It beats the vine by a long run 👍

Visited as we wanted to try somewhere different. Wow, food is lovely, service great, beer isn’t over priced. Can even watch the World Cup whilst having a lovely meal. Big screens all around the restaurant Needless to say we’ve visited a few Times now.

Ordered a large mixed grill for me n me partner £12.50, chips £1.50 curry sauce £2 egg fried rice £2.50 n Nan bread £2.50 and it was bang on , the place was buzzing the food was coming out fast and sizzling. Place was clean and staff was friendly. If it’s a special occasion your best to book because it does get very busy. Plus they av large TVs all around the place if u wanna watch the football.

First time been here must say the food was absolutely stunning watching the England game winning 6-1 to Panama topped it off will be visiting again soon

The New Hen and Chickens in West Bromwich is beautiful food excellant drinks are reasonable one of the cheapest for food and drinks very clean and staff friendly.

Went Friday evening and was recommended to go by my friend as he said the food was amazing ! Well he certainly told the truth! we ordered the mix grill and two portions of masala chips. The grill tasted amazing, great spices and quality food. The restaurant is nicely laid out with a family vibe feel and the service was quality.

Went here for the evening on a business stop over. Great pub with a sports theme. Beer was priced really well, the 10 screens to watch the footie were really great but the food, although a small menu was excellent. The curry was out of this world. Quality. Staff friendly and helpful also.

I have been to a lot of these type of bar and restaurants and this is the best one I have been to in a while.

Visited here as was fancying a curry for the bank holiday. We ordered the chicken tikka starter and sheekh kebab starter as a starter but they came out with the mains which we then couldn’t eat. The curry’s were very greasy and salty and so we left lots. The price was the only good thing.

We visit alot of grills in the area and this is one of the best so far. The spinney in West brom was good but I think on the day we visited the hen and chickens it just beat it. We had the special mixed grill and large one which were enough for 4 ppl. Only criticism was that there wasn't enough prawns for 4ppl. Sauces with poppadoms were fine and spicy and the grills were tasty, not greasy at all. The service was good and although we had to wait 20 mins or so it was worth waiting for. I don't mind waiting for freshly prepared food especially when it's hot and tastes good. No complaints here.

I eat out quite a lot, so I know what to expect from a good curry. Unfortunately the whole of our group left food. My curry was sour and extremely greasy. Everyone else was disappointed too.

visited here sunday 8 april at about 9.30. was looking forward to visiting here for the first time. first thing you notice is a nice patio area, we went into the bar area which was also nice. then we entered the restaurant part. first thoughts were wow. a clean bright nice well decorated space with a nice glass atrium as the main feature. we ordered drinks at the bar where we were served by a courteous friendly young lady. we ordered the food we wanted and the kitchen staff were very nice. i was enjoying it up to that point. then, the food came. me and my guests were totally underwhelmed by the food, the fish pakora was dry and overcooked. the naan breads were smothered in butter ( even though we requested just a little) the chips were swimming in grease and overcooked. and the rest of the mixed grill was super bland. indian food is supposed to be spicy, this was the polar opposite. the mint and yoghurt sauce was tasteless.the chilli sauce was sweet and no heat to it. don't get me wrong, this was not the worst indian food i have ever had but nowhere near the best i have had. shame really. as for decor/ cleanliness/ staff. 10/10. food 2/10. sorry.

The wait for this place is extremly long so be prepared to wait over 2+ hours for your food.

Been to a lot of mix grill pubs like this. 1st time I visited and gotta say it was 10/10. It's better than the spinney in west Brom.

Went with family including 10 year old. There was a wait for table but it was Saturday and we didn't mind. Had a few drinks at the bar then were given a table. Food was delicious. Its a nice new pub/Indian grill. Friendly service and nice bright and clean place. The owners have spent good money and the front off the pub is amazing.

Went for a meal ( 7 in our group ). Told 45 mins. 2 hours later after we complained the food arrived. Plates were cold, food luke warm. The manager just tried to make excuses and not one apology. Do not eat here if you don't like a long wait, cold food and small portions. The rice was dry and old. Straight after the so called meal we bought fish and chips from a chip shop.

Went here last Thursday after hearing very good reviews about the food. We weren't dissapointed. Everyone's meal was hot, tasty and individually cooked to order. Naan breads were perfect & the staff were brilliant, especially our waitress. Can't wait to come back again.
