A very traditional pub. Unfortunately the kitchen is being redone, therefore I was recommended to visit another place close by. Very friendly owner!

Super super friendly and helpful people here. We were bushed after a long days travels and just wanted a g'n't and a comfortable place to have something to eat. Their kitchen was closed, but they were happy for us to order a takeaway and even provided naplins, crockery, and cutlery for us. The drink selection was great - several well chosen wines, 4+ hand pulled beers, a nice selection of very good gins. They also had a range of local ciders, which, had we more time, I would certainly have sampled. Pleasant atmosphere, good prices and all located in a traditional feeling but light and airy pub. Can't speak highly enough.

The two lady owners were very welcoming and knowledgeable on wines. A very nice traditional Inn, cosy environment we will return.

Lovely friendly pub which was taken over a few months ago. Good selection of beers and lagers. They do food at lunchtime but are willing for you to order a takeaway in the evening and provide plates and cutlery. All staff are welcoming, happy and friendly. Thank you

We were there on a Saturday and it was a hot day, the courtyard tends to be where the smokers go so we sat on pavement opposite which had nice shade . Food was very tasty just a bit expensive for the size of portion . Good selection of drinks and staff pleasant enough, been a few times so that says something.

A free house with very well kept real ales, and two fresh ciders. Greene King IPA, London Glory, Mighty Oak Oscar Wilde, Greene Jack Little Green Men pale. Homemade steak and kidney pudding with mashed potato and vegetables was tasty, and filling. The landlord is friendly, efficient and chatty.

I visited the new bell inn this weekend past with my dog. I was there for opening time. I was immediately struck by the friendliness of the landlord. Although I was the first in, I was quickly followed by other customers that were clearly regulars. The friendliness made me feel this is somewhere I would frequent often if I was local; the landlord knew one older gentleman had been poorly and enquired how he was, telling him he should have called if he’d needed anything. Another older gentleman came in who had lost his very elderly mother the day before; staff offered their condolences and they reminisced how much his mother had enjoyed the pub herself. It certainly wasn’t a place where you would be unwelcomed if you were not a local however; my dog was immediately offered gravy bone biscuits, and I chatted to the landlord at length. The new bell inn, unlike many of the pubs in old harwich, has a large outdoor space, which makes it particularly popular in summer. They are a free house, which always pleases me! I had half a green king IPA which was lovely. They had an extensive menu, and I was delighted to see they had a ploughman’s available (so many pubs lack this these days and it is often something I fancy!). On a Sunday they only do roasts, however the landlord spoke to his wife who runs the kitchen and she said she was on top of the prep for Sunday roasts and offered to do me a ploughman’s. This was so lovely- however I couldn’t stop, so assured them that I will return one Saturday to enjoy this. In the main bar they have a wood burner (although this was not on as it was quite a hot day). They also had an extensive collection of eclectic books, ranging from football, true crime, novels and cook books! Before I left, I used their toilets; very clean and private as it is a single toilet. I will definitely return for that ploughman’s, and I thank the new bell inn for their warm welcome.

Love this place, 6 of us plus dog were made welcome despite after 2pm. Great atmosphere ....exactly what everyone wants in a pub. Delicious food, good menu. Sympathetically restored historic building, can't wait to return.

Another great friendly pub in Harwich. It is made up of several small areas which add to the character. Always welcoming staff and a good selection of beers. I don't get here often, but it is my traditional place to have a quite lunch time Christmas drink to get me ready for the chaos that is Christmas day.

Having stayed local in an Airbnb we wanted a place for lunch so booked in at The New Bell Inn. When we walked in we were warmly welcomed with smiling faces and the pub had a warm feel to it. Could be something to do with the log burner in the front bar! We were given options for time and enjoyed a warm beverage whilst there. The lunch came with a full plate, choice of chicken, beef or pork. If I was to complain it would be there was just a little too much food, but that really isn’t a complaint as too much is way better than not enough right! The dessert choice was great also and we left feeling full, contented and looking forward to visiting again in the future. Also, dogs are welcome and they were brought a bowl of water which was greatly appreciated by our furry family members :) If you’re looking for a quick stop to warm up, a longer stop to sing your heart out with some karaoke, or a Sunday lunch, I highly recommend stopping here. You will not be disappointed.

Nice pub to eat as well as drink. Friendly helpful staff and dog friendly. If you like a pint try the "jail bird" ale, very pleasant drink. The New Bell Inn is definitely worth a visit.

Took my family out for celebration meal on Sunday. The food was Excellent and the Service was wonderful. Very friendly owners deserves the 5 star rating.would definitely go there again.

Must say beer was good, but as for the food well i had the stake and kidney pudding the only solid thing in side it of was a peace of gristle, and my wife had the chilli with a lump of rice. We will not be going back for the food.

I visited this pub with my Dad based on good old TripAdvisor reviews & we was not disappointed, lovely fresh cooked food at reasonable prices, friendly staff & good service.

Took a walk down to Old Harwich and stopped off at the New Bell Inn, the pub is a bit off the beaten track but well worth a visit, excellent food, large portions and a great selection of real ales and ciders!

Very busy on Sunday, less so on Monday. A good selection of real ale. A friendly local pub.

We stumbled across this place by accident and were glad we did. A small bar but had a separate dining area. Dogs are welcome in the bar area. The food was typical pub grub but home cooked, served well and good sized portions. The service was lovely, friendly and relaxed. We were made to feel very welcome and the atmosphere was warm. We are in the bar area and my only criticism is the seating wasn't very comfortable. There was a good selection of quality lagers. Well worth a visit but slightly off the main beaten track.

Came last night,for a drink. Received a warm welcome. Immaculate pub. Ladies loo so clean! So impressed that we came back the next day and had a lovely lunch. What a treasure of a place,! I would come in on my own , very comfortable,stylish and welcoming. Xxx

We visited this pub for a drink, has changed hands so now does food. Menu looked great, plenty to choose from and the meals that we saw coming through looked really tasty. Friendly staff so will have a meal next time we go to Harwich. Closed on a Tuesday.

Just had a lovely Sunday roast at The New Bell Inn. Everything you want in an English pub, and the owners are lovely too.

Very friendly, good food and were happy with our well behaved dogs. A lovely sausage and mash lunch for us.

We played as a band 'Stuck in the Sixties' and we had a great time. The landlady was very accommodating & the crowd very appreciative of our music. We will be back!

The fish and chips are first class and great value for money. Lovely fresh fIsh in an exceptional batter served with chunky chips. The apple crumble and custard was excellent. First class bitter to wash it down as well.

The New Bell Inn had a great range of ales and ciders at great prices. The bar staff were very friendly and there was also some live music being played which added to the great atmosphere. Best pub in Harwich!

Four for lunch sampling scampi and chips and steak and kidney pudding. Scampi came with chips,coleslaw,salad,tartare sauce,lemon and dressing. Pudding came with broccoli, carrots, cabbage and was a large portion. All meals were of very good quality and the pudding was thought to be homemade....

A traditional pub, very clean, very welcoming staff. Outside seating and if you have a dog they are allowed in as well. I would definitely return and highly recommend.

We were walking through Harwich and came across the New Bell Inn so decided to give it a go and it was a very good decision,we were made to feel welcome,I had the steak and kidney pudding with veg and the wife had a chilli...

With a fantastic history dating back to 1743 The New Bell Inn is a fine example of an English Pub. On our visit there are outside tables across the road where you are served at the 'continental style', with the sun shining, nothing is much better than this.

On a walk around Historic Harwich stopped here for an Al fresco lunch. Superb friendly service and a terrific Caesar Salad (my chap really enjoyed his sausage sandwich too). Well done for using your car park for more outside tables.
