The New Bell in Birmingham

This is a little hidden gem, Birmingham is literally littered with desi pubs all over so the options for a good mixed grill and a pint is endless. Me and 2 friends came to this pub recently and I couldn't fault a single thing, the food was amazing, striking a good balance of spice and heat whilst not being overwhelmingly hot. Great selection of beers on tap as well and all the sports on offer as well. Will definitely come again and can't recommend it enough.

It's been a while since I came here , but was surprised how good the food was , 10 out 10 Service was a little slow but was well worth the wait Thank you for a lovely night

You simply cannot beat this place on any level for Indian food,the staff are superb and the prices are excellent. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Fully recommend it to anyone !

Always a pleasure coming to this pub. Fantastic food and a great atmosphere. Would highly recommend to any local or outsider. Always greeted with a warm friendly welcome by the staff.

Food and drinks were great great value for money. Curry and madras and sheek kebab wraps were nice. Place had a really friendly atmosphere only drawback is the parking and gets really hectic.

Amazing food as usual and a good atmosphere inside. The fish tikka and pakora were top notch.

Last time we went there the service was not good. We took a table and ordered food, but after 20 minutes a lady came and told us that the table was reserved, but there was no any sign. We asked if we can take a table in the open area, she said yes, but when we went there after 5 minutes another person came and said that they do not service food outside and we need to go inside. We didn't accept it as we were already relocated once. They brought food outside, but it was not the way they normally serve, not on proper dishes, not enough warm.

Great place to meet, eat and drink. All around TV screens show you the latest sporting events.

Ordered a meal for the family on uber,half an hour before it was due the bell cancelled the order,no reason or apology given,very poor customer service i will not use this place again

I didn't know it existed, but it was lovely, it was quiet at first, then got very busy, casual clothes, very clean, staff OK but I think maybe they could be a little more friendly. Other than that I will be going again.

Ordered for the first time through Uber eats. Spent nearly £50 on a mixed grill 3 curries and a portion of fish pakora. Was absolutely disgusted at how small the portions were. The containers were small and were just over half full. The mixed grill had 7 wings 1 sheesh kebab and about 3 pieces of chicken. Definitely not worth the £13.50 we paid for it. Phoned up and spoke to the manager who did offer free food if we ordered or went in but as this take away was so bad we declined! Would not recommend this place to anyone!

Got Mixed Noodles and Rara Lamb. Portions are good, though the noodles were a bit bland, however the chicken in it was good. Took Rara Lamb to go - lovely amount of meat and nice to eat, though also was a tad bland. Minimum card payment for food is £10, which feels a bit much. Service is nice, staff is kind and friendly. Would go again and try some other foods.

Just got food from here and ordered through uber eats. I had a issue with my order and ended up visiting the restaurant. The staff were amazing when dealing with me. Very apologetic and went above and beyond to resolve my issue. When I got the food home the taste was amazing. Great quality and really tasty. I was really impressed would definately recommend it.

All the food I ordered was bland no spice or seasoning.. Chicken balti egg fried rice Garlic chicken

Ordered two mixed bbq to take away .one large one small they both looked the same size .As for chicken wings never seen such small chicken wings ever size of my little finger size .Lol

Ordered mix grill, it was burnt and cold, also the wings were bland. The guy who took order on till was unprofessional. Don’t think will be going there again for mixie 😞

Food was mediocre today, small portions and very watery. Food has always previously been great, so not sure what happened today. Definitely put me off ordering in the near future.

First time here for mixed grill. Fri night. Kebabs were too dry. Should be moist. Chicken should be slightly charred but was undercooked. Fish pakora batter way too thick. Like veg pakora bater. Should be light and crunchy.

Been twice now after trying loads of other desi pubs and this is the best so far.giving smaller portions now to keep price down

Firstly, the value for money is certainly there. Really good prices for food, fantastic and warm service, and a lovely atmosphere. The food itself was very nice, I wouldn't say the mixed grill is in my top 3 (mainly because of the size of the regular grill) , but for price, you can't argue with it. I think trying the large grill next time would be best for a greedy man like me, as the price of that is absolutely fantastic as well. I'll definitely love to go again to try some more of the menu!

Nice pub, nice food, good atmosphere within the place. The only drawback I would have is that the car park is a bit tight, I got a space but didn't leave me much room. Other than that I can't really fault the place.

The food is dissapointing. Small portions and tasteless. Plenty off other places offering way better food including my kitchen at home.

Very busy and loud and didn't like the atmosphere. Manager not very pleasant as didn't understand that we had to have our own drink for a child because it had his medicine in. Would not go here again

1st time I have visited this place I found the food portions were very small the goat curry was not goat meat and pure bone the chicken and prawn indo Chinese noodles only had to prawns in it and the whole menu is more expensive than other curry pubs I have visited

Fantastic food at a very reasonable price. Service excellent, food came out in good time, drinks very reasonable and good selection. Will definitely be going back at least once a month . 5 stars all round keep it up 👍

Arrived at 2.20 on a bank holiday Monday. Asked how to order food at the bar, told you order drinks here and food just over there. Perfect. No problem. Ordered some drinks and went to look at the menu at a table. The place was dead quiet. Went up to order food at about 2.30 to find out they actually don’t take food orders until 3pm. So you let us order drinks knowing this and then we had to wait 30 mins, I hate being lied to. Finally, at 3pm, they let us order food. I asked for my jalfrezi without chicken to be specifically spicy, it wasn’t, it was sweet. Naan bread was great but everything else was mediocre. We also ordered samosas as a starter which came with the mains, not sure why. They were inedible as the pastry was so thick. A shame. It’s like a proper pub but could be amazing, they are missing a trick with their opening hours and food service hours. No one checked if the food was okay. No one cleared out plates for 25 mins whilst we were sat there and they were still there after we left despite someone coming round clearing glasses. I can see why the restaurant was empty, it should not be empty on a bank holiday Monday.

Lamb curry, nan Excellent 😋 I've eaten in a lot of places in Birmingham. The New Bell is right up there. The family grill is also outstanding !! Enough for lunch next day. 😋

Omg!! I went there to celebrate my birthday today, the potion's of the food was small e.g 4 pieces of fish for 5 people, chilli chicken & the main tasted like it had half off bowl of sugar in it. Very very very disappointed 😞 😕 😔 😒 It was my mother's inlaw first time going to a Indian restaurant in the UK & she wasn't happy & she didn't like her main , she said her main very sweet & she's a diabetic. She was very disappointed. Never going there AGAIN! Sorry! A waste of money... Our first & Last time! Better of going to Soho Tavern!!

Busy place and definitely not quiet, food is lovely quite quick service very pleasant staff.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at THE NEW BELL. And i must say it was an amazing experience from start to finish. I love the way server treated us. Specially Sandesh was amazing and made our experience more enjoyable and comfortable.

There was a lot of needless confusion over poppadoms. We explained we were waiting on a couple more for those on the table that paid separate. We were questioned about it several times and in the end they said we will bring out some more. It was a mountain out of a molehill. They then bought out too few plates, we explained we needed more, and they asked how many people were eating. We all were, not that it should matter. The lamb chops were nice. But for the price, a large family mixed grill should have more than one naan. It was alright. Theres better elsewhere. Drinks were cheap. One other thing I didn't understand. No minimum card spend at bar, but grill was minimum £10.00. What if someone just wanted a wrap and was on their own. All a bit strange

When new bell first opened, it brought an mixed grill atmosphere back to the area and the community again, serving its authentic Asian food. However, one dish in particular for me has gone to ruin. When they first opened the butter chicken was rich! This rich creamy orange sauce with breasts of chicken in it that melted in your mouth, seasoned to perfection! It was the bestest butter chicken around the area. Now you get pieces of grilled chicken tikka in a watery red sauce and it’s absolutely disgusting. BEX!

How much smaller can the portions get? Food is very average for as expected for a mix grill place. But the portions are distinctively smaller. Unfortunately another place we shall not be going too. I also wonder about the staff, many obviously straight “off the boat” and struggle to speak and understand English. This only applies to the restaurant staff.

Ordered a clay pot curry came in a cold white bowl that looked the same as my wife's butter chicken & the staff was very unpleasant when asked about the food. Not the best curry I've had all looked & tasted the same out of a jar....

Ok went there tonight 02/03/23 bar staff great beer good ordered food guy struggled to understand a bit ordered 2 x mixed currys and breads asked for hot ! Currys came out bland and nog sure what happend but i had all the lamb and the other was all the chicken? Quite dissapointed with the food small amount expected better with the reviews

This is by far one of the best pubs in great bar, from excellent food to polite staff and regular customers always make you feel welcome, I would highly recommend this pub if you like curry and beer.

Been a regular user for a long time, always been excellent, been today ordered lamb, got chicken, which I don’t like, when I politely complained they were adamant I ordered chicken, the waiter who seemed to think it was funny would not get me a replacement meal or offer a refund! So I had to watch the others in our party eat their meals before we left! We will never go back!

Only had a beer but looks really good very clean food looks great open kitchen. Somebody left quite a lot of a tandori grill supose they were full .was tempted to have some looked lovely but thought they may have just popped out for a while. Yep food looks terrific

Shocking service ordered food for a time was 25 minutes late then just slammed on counter then when got home was missing part of the order called and told there was nothing they could do Do not use try other places service is so shocking

1st visit to New bell with my 2 Son's,an food was great,we enjoyed our visit

Ordered a veg mixed grill to take out. Got the order wrong and sent a meat one instead. Called them and they said come back in 15 mins. Came back after 15 mins as they said but was made to wait another 15 mins, watched them heating curries in the microwave while I waited. Got home and the entire grill was in 2 boxes. 2 samosas, 2 spring rolls , 2 peices of paneer, 2 small bits of soya tikka. The rest of the box was filled with onions and peppers and mushrooms. So for £15.50 they filed up the box with garnish for make it look full (see pics). Iv been to other the pubs before paid the same price for the same kind of food and manged to fill 2 boxes with left overs after 2 of us have eaten. Really disappointing, would not order from here again much better pubs out there that offer better service and will actually give you proper food instead of filling your box up with garnish.

I drove up from London for the Commonwealth Games. My decision to eat here was based on the fact that they said I could leave my car in their car park for free of charge. What a great decision that was.The service was great and the food was even better. Being originally a Black Country boy myself, it was great as the designated driver to get a glass of Vimto (that was my go to drink as a kid). The others in my party enjoyed the Cobra on tap. Next time I am coming up for an athletics meeting at the Alexander Stadium I will be heading for the New Bell first for another Chicken Balti.

Noisy and 1and half hour wait for food so left maybe another time.

Great food. Great atmosphere. Family orientated place and fantastic with friends too. Fairly priced. I would recommend booking as it gets busy. The large mixed grill was a hit with everyone that tried it. Currys we're all very tasty too. Would definitely revisit and would recommend too

Went here with friends on a recommendation. Ordered a sheek kebab and chicken bhuna and lamb curry. Sheek kebab was ok but small portion. Both the curries had exactly the same taste. Obviously used the same sauce, and the portions are tiny considering how much you are paying. Service is also slow. Overall ok but not worth the price.

On our first visit found the Indian buffet very good and the bar staff friendly.

Food was delicious freshly cooked, good value for money staff really nice and friendly would definitely recommend a visit.

Delivery was right on time and the quality and the taste of the food was OK. I normally use another Indian Takeaway and whilst I can’t complain about the price paid having taken advantage of an Uber Eats offer, but found the portions really small from New Bell. I don’t think I’d order from them again, certainly not at their normal prices.

Amazing food, great selection of alcoholic drinks!

Wow…I was pleasantly surprised! Never been before I stumbled upon this place. The food was just fantastic, I’m definitely coming again.

We ordered a takeaway and was told it would take 1hr. 2hrs later we received our food. Absolutely unacceptable. There were many Uber Eats drivers who constantly came and went, they will take priority over other customers. Food was ok, but the chicken used in all dishes could do with removing the fat and gristle. Very cheap chicken thigh meat. Overall a very disappointed experience.

I don't know what happened tonight. Booked in advance for our family meal at 7.30. Had to wait over an hour and a half for our food. Usually get told in advance if there is likely to be a long delay - but told nothing tonight. Food was excellent, as usual - but will wonder about returning after this experience.
