No non-alcoholic lager ( draught or bottled ) ! Had run out .... Very poor choice of healthy food for vegetarians and vegans. According to them Burrata (cows milk cheese) is vegan. When I asked for the vegan option they just removed the Burrata !! My friend paid £22 for chicken salad which had hardly any chicken in it, mainly coleslaw .....

I am absolutely disappointed to have to write this review of the Nevill Arms. I have love this area and in particular this is a beautiful spot. The location is lovely I have to say and I do believe that this area is one of the Englands best kept secrets! We enjoy visiting similar establishments and love the traditional approach of this type of pub/ restaurant. We have eaten here a few times before covid and more recently I happened to be working in the area and it reminded me that this place was a little gem. We live around 20 miles away and I was actually kicking myself that I had let this place slide off the radar! A couple of weeks ago we were in the area and took a slight detour to visit the Nevill Arms hopefully to catch a Sunday dinner. Admittedly it was approaching 4.00 when we arrived and there was seemingly a few customers in front of us at the bar ordering drinks. We waited patiently until it was our turn to be served but by this time it was as just after 4.00. I ordered some drinks and asked politely if it would be at all possible to order 2 Sunday lunches. A strong and vehement “no, we don’t take any orders after 4.00” was the reply. I understand that rules are rules and the chefs want to get home but my assumption was that they probably had already batch made these Sunday lunches and there would quite likely be some left over. I didn’t push it because the guys response had been so adamant and we still had other options for eating establishments on that day. Undeterred I deceived that we would try to book online for Mother’s Day on the following Sunday. I tried and failed miserably to book a table for 3 for Mother’s Day as soon as my daughter confirmed that she would be travelling up from Somerset on the next weekend. Fed up with trying and failing on the website I sent an email explaining our predicament and I was sent a reply the very next day. It was great news, they could accommodate a table for three on Mother’s Day at 12.00 so long as we vacated by 1.00. It would mean a bit of a rush but I was happy that they managed to fit us in and sent an immediate reply to their email confirming our booking.. Mother’s Day 11.50 we arrive at the location and it just as pretty as ever. We walk into the bar area to be greeted by the same guy who had rejected us the week before.. “ Are you eating here today?? Can I t take your surname name?” He added. I told him my surname after a while he said “ we don’t have any bookings today with that name”. I explained that I had struggled to book via the website and explained the email conversation. His response was that he remebered the email but there had been no reply. I then showed him prof that I ad indeed responded vert promptly to his email. Rather than apologise for his mistake he decided that the best way around this situation was to turn it around on us and then use his God complex to say the he might be able to give us a table so long as we agree to vacate by 1.15. This was more time that he had originally offered so I accepted his kind offer . We were one of the first tables to arrive and order but the place began to fill up quickly. Indeed they explained that they were due to serve over 200 that afternoon. Our starters arrived fairly quickly as expected and they were tasty. We couldn’t decide between beef, lamb or pork for our main so we decided to order one of each and try a bit of every dish. Lamb was nice but under seasoned and a little bland. Pork was the star of the show if I am honest. The beef that I was really looking forward to was overcooked, tough, cold and under seasoned. At £25 per main I would expect a little better so I decided that when the waitress would come to ask if everything or ok I would explain the problem. The waitress came at the end of the course when pretty much everything apart to the beef had been eaten. She was quite nervous and softly spoken and I felt bad to have to explain our problem with the beef dish. Another lady who I assume was in charge of the waitresses came to take charge. I explained agin our issues with the beef. She said that she would speak to the chef. After a few moments the original waitress returned with the bill and said that they had very graciously removed a glass of red wine from the bill. So for a £25 meal they decided to reduce our bill by £12 for a glass of wine that probably cost them £3 max. This was a lot less than generous but given that it was Mother’s Day and I didn’t want to upset my daughter / partner I paid the bill and asked for the waitresses bosses email. My intention was to point out our painful initial welcome to the establishment followed by a disappointing meal and a less than favourable resolution.. The lady in question pointed me to their website where I assumed that I would again be flipped off by the same rude man who had “ welcomed” us earlier. I explained to her that one of my issues was the patronising and rude welcoming by Max and that I would not want to be airing my complaint directly to him because he would be unlikely to forward such an email to the relevant people. Without any explanation she asked me “ did you find him to be rude?” “ how do you know I was going to say that?” I wondered. The she explained “ Ah, I have heard similar complaints about him recentl, I am not surprised” was her reply. She then said that she would email me to try to get the situation resolved. I didn’t expect to hear from her the same day because I understand that it’s a very busy service and no doubt I late shift for her.. however it’s newly a week later and absolutely no response it reply. It’s left a bit more than a bad taste in the mouth if I am honest. I do appreciate that it’s a busy day for the restaurant trade but there is no way that a front of house representative should have been rude and have such a God complex. Further more, to leave my complaint unresolved is the final straw for me. I am sure that they can and do offer a better service but for us it was a very poor show! An expensive lunch that was below par on all fronts didn’t make for a great Mother’s Day. Please try harder to live up to your amazing location and setting… most disappointed!

This is a beautiful pub in a beautiful village and is always very busy so why do you need to charge so much for drinks? We came for drinks just after Christmas and were taken aback at the prices. 2 small wines and 2 pints £33.20…..are you kidding me! Rude, greedy and killing pubs slowly by costing people out of “going to the pub for a couple” Best of luck in the future. And please fix your wobbly tables and chairs before someone looses there costly pint to the flagstone floor.

Nice local village hotel/pub. Several dining areas of different sizes. We ate in the main bar area, which had a cosy feel with an enormous fireplace. Small but interesting lunch menu with some unusual options e.g. bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeno peppers (which were delicious). Seafood pasta was excellent. Loved the petit four as a dessert option with a coffee for afters. Delicious small sweet mouthfuls rather than a full sized dessert. Local beers on tap as well. Would definitely return. Highly Recommended.

Fabulous cookies and nice touch with the sloe gin night cap, thank you. Great nights sleep and super breakfast the following morning. Lovely aroma on the landing from the automatic air freshener. Customer service was good and the venue is super. Highly recommend. 🌟 A couple of minor tips for the management…. Tissues in the room would be nice (and expected for the room rate), and due to the TV being a quirky combined mirror, when the TV is on you can’t get ready.

The Nevill Inn is lovely, and the staff are wonderful they couldn't have made us more than welcome. We were a little sad that we didn't get one of the refurbished rooms as ours was pretty tired. But the best of all was the food in the restaurant. The Brisket Burger was the best I have ever eaten, and I have eaten a lot. The service by the staff was excellent. The room we'd booked for our wedding night was beautiful. Beams, leaded windows and an ornate four poster bed. As it was probably the hottest night of the year, when we arrived we were very pleased to see a large floor fan in our room and working. The contents of the tea tray were disappointing with a very basic make of coffee. It was bitter and there was no decaf option. Lovely shower. Although only one large towel so we had to share. Breakfast was the most disappointing. We both chose the full English. We know there are several excellent quality butchers and bakers in this area but the sausages tasted cheap and nasty. The bacon was cooked to death and rock hard. The coffee (I drink decaf) was SO bitter it was undrinkable. The food we had did not match the quality of the room and the price paid. We would not stay again and would not recommend the food here.

We happened upon the Neville Arms on the way home from a nice drive out & it looked lovely so stopped for a drink & a bite to eat. Although we thought the menu a bit pricey we thought as we were ravenous & a good hour or more to get home we'd just order anyway - for that price you'd expect at least something good right? Wrong! Although the burger was actually really nice that can't be said for the "hotdog". Burger - served with slightly over done chips was the best out of the two cost £20, yep that's right 20 quid (see photo) for that tiny portion. The hotdog was basically a sausage in a roll & a few over done chips - highway robbery at £14. Unfortunately it was a little bland & over powered by too much mustard. We were not at any point asked if everything was ok as one would normally expect. To be honest even if we were we'd probably have done the usual British thing & not said anything anyway - what is with that!! The place is lovely, very picturesque & staff really pleasant however the waitress really needs to not bathe in perfume as it made us gag - less is more just not on the plate in this case. We appreciate times are difficult but people still expect value for money & this unfortunately was not. Would we go back, if we were passing yes but only for a drink - you don't expect to be hungry after a pub lunch was just planning on a snack for dinner but had to have a proper dinner.

What a difference a week can make. Last weekend we visited for Father’s Day and we sat inside. It was an exceptional experience. This week we had guests and thought we’d sit outside in the Grill Area. The location was perfect, the table was great, the food was superb, but the service? Next to nonexistent. Same place, same rules, same manager but the staff just didnt care as much. A different ethos from a week ago with no attention to detail, as there was inside the pub last weekend. We have desperately been seeking somewhere that we can rely on for consistently good food and good service, inside or outside. Is it really too hard to expect? In this instance, if you're going to run two kitchens and serve from two separate locations then staff accordingly, and/or find staff who have initiative, are proactive and focused on every revenue opportunity by being attentive. We know they exist! We waited for menus, we waited and waited for our order, we had to ask for additional drinks. Tables went uncleared, napkins floated around the floor - ignored even by the day manager. We asked for the dessert menu but the wait was too long so in the end decided to get the bill instead - we had two kids with us and simply couldn't wait any longer than we did. We saw other groups looking annoyed and disgruntled. In these economically difficult and challenging times how can any business afford to treat customers like this? We are so very, VERY, disappointed because we love this place - it's everything you could want, but so poorly let down this week by such indifferent service.

Enjoyed a 2 day stay visiting friends in nearby Oakham. Our room was spacious but given the price, it lacked a number of essentials-no shelf in bathroom for toiletries, no luggage rack in room, no full length mirror, no tissues, no spare loo rolls, no shower cap, no non slip mat in shower. We went out for the full day on Sunday and returned to find our room hadn’t been made up, bed not made, no teas and coffees etc. James at reception was very good and provided all the missing items, we naturally made our own bed. The TV in the room was mounted on the wall at right angles to the bed so it was a real neck craning exercise if we wanted to watch it, thankfully we were out most of the time. On a more positive note, we enjoyed a good meal in the restaurant on Saturday night well served by Gabby. We met the host on a couple of occasions and felt he lacked warmth, maybe he was too busy but his role demands empathy with guests and this was missing. There are other hotels in the area so we’ll probably try them next time we visit our friends.

Booked for a last minute bank holiday break. So wanted to be able to give 5 stars to this little gem! The location, interior, and bedrooms were so lovely - every member of staff we dealt with while there were a credit to the place and we had breakfast and dinner there, both of which were of a very good standard (although I did feel my lamb dish at £30 was a little overpriced). The only thing that really let this place down was the quality of towels in the room, which were sadly very poor, definitely not of the standard you expect when going to stay at any hotel.

Can we all agree there is a time and place for lots of screechy, crying children, with some repeatedly sounding off their party blowers - not only unchecked by parents but encouraged? Can we also agree that time and place is not a Saturday night...

Last minute mid-week tea turned into one of my favourite meals in a long time. The chicken pie is an absolute must have! Beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Overall a wonderful experience in a fabulous setting, would definitely recommend.

We thought we would try this pub since it’s been refurbed . The new decor is great, the service was good but the menu was very underwhelming, we were expecting a great menu like the sister pubs. Unfortunately it was very disappointing. Very limited choices....

The new decor and layout is spectacular and very well done. The food service was slow and food arrival slower still. We settled for three mains. The medium fillet steak was rare in the extreme chewy and in edible. The tepid riggotoni was a strange...

An excellent Sunday lunch in a picturesque village. It sems a pity, however, that some customers are permitted the informality of attending in their pyjamas. Perhaps next time they might be asked, at least, to wear slippers!

Was feeling quite excited about coming here as was meant to come here years ago but the snow put paid to that. And after finally getting here I wish it had snowed again . The restaurant was dated , the food was poor and not really restaurant standard. My partner choose the fish pie from the specials board and I tried the steak. The steak was ok but the pie was shocking . Starters were poor as well . Couldn’t face trying a desert . Sorry Neville Arms we won’t be returning.

The bar had two locals, swearing at the tips of their voices, at 6pm. The food. We were told we couldn't eat from the valentine's special menu unless we are in the bar which was later admitted was wrong. Ate from the valentine's set the menu which looked great and assumed that at £35 a head would be too, presumably cooked by a chef meriting those sorts of prices. Langostine starter had no flesh, having been vaporised. The medium rare fillet steak was actually a well done rump steak accompanied by overcooked preprepared potatoes, which apart from being cremated was insulting and a mis-sell. Granted, the food was removed from the bill, but we didn't eat and made for a disappointing night away.

Visted for a christmas celebration yesterday. Christmas menu was weak but not even a cracker! My main meal was very poor, supposed to be an Asparagus and chestnut parcel. One spear of asparugus and no sign of a mushroom! Taste was OK But that is the best praise I can give. The White Chocolate fondant with raspberry sorbet was hot so very sweet, would not recommend eitherService was bad had to ask for someone to come and take an order for coffee!Very disappointing.

Lovely christmassy atmosphere in this cosy country pub. I have stayed here before - totally forgettable but comfortable small rooms and a decent breakfast. This time we were here for dinner which was alright but nothing special - felt staff weren't very happy Came to £30 a head for a main course, pudding and a glass of wine - not bad but nothing special. Having said that I feel its unlikely you will get a bad meal here but don't expect something amazing either The vegetarian choice was somewhat limited. Not sure about the union jack cushions either not quite to my taste anyway

What a beautiful rural location which is unspoilt. The bar was traditionally warm and inviting. A lovely hotel with nice facilities for a quiet break. You do need a car to access things like shops etc as this is a small village location. Breakfast on offer is very good with a wide variety to cover all palates. I highly recommend coming here.

This was my first time visiting this pub and I was genuinely impressed. The vibe was warm and welcoming, with a friendly and family-oriented atmosphere. The customer service was excellent—staff were attentive and polite throughout. The food was absolutely delicious and exceeded expectations. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend this place to others!

I am writing to express my disappointment following a recent visit to this restaurant, which fell well below my expectations due to poor service and unclear booking terms. I had made a reservation online for 12:00 PM for two people, clearly noting in the booking that we would also have a baby with us and would require a high chair. Upon arrival, we were greeted at the door by a man I assume was the manager. When I mentioned our booking, he looked at us and sarcastically remarked that we had only booked for two people, implying that the baby counted as a third guest. His tone and attitude were dismissive and disrespectful, which immediately made us feel unwelcome. In addition, we were informed—after ordering drinks—that the 30% discount voucher we intended to use was not valid due to it being a bank holiday. This restriction was not mentioned anywhere on the website during the booking process, which felt misleading and frustrating. Due to the unprofessional attitude of the manager and the lack of transparency regarding the voucher, we chose to leave after paying for our drinks. It was an unfortunate experience, and I believe it could have been avoided with better customer service and clearer communication. I hope you take this feedback seriously, as experiences like this can significantly impact customer trust and loyalty.
