Fantastic pub. Great selection of music played for those of us with eclectic taste. I am yet to eat here but it always smells delicious and always 2 or 3 different sports on the multiple screens.

I attend the Nelson with family members regularly. The food is chippy style due to having a fish and chip shop attached. The food is good quality and tasty. The atmosphere is average, I only say this as every time I've attended every TV has boring horse racing on. And I mean every TV.

Excellent. Christine and her team run an exceptional pub. Good, well kept beers, fantastic food, and all served promptly with excellent customer service. With the added bonus of a nice outdoor seating area, a perfect sun trap in the summer but also a good covered seating area in the winter. I would definitely recommend a visit

I would never eat here again waited an hour for food that i wouldnt have give my dog it had been cooked probably when it was first ordered the member of staff behind the bar is rude and shouldnt be working with the public needs to learn some manners hence too say i wont be going there again.

Went for a Christmas meal with work colleagues. Service was very slow. Meal was booked for 6 p.m. We were still waiting at 6.45. When the starter finally came it was 3 chicken gougons and a small amount of salad. Main course was a slice of turkey, a slice of gammon, 2 potatoes (supposedly roasted?) Carrots, cauliflower, 1 pig in blanket, a miniscule bit of stuffing and gravy. Plus mushy peas??? £19.50 for 3 courses. Christmas pudding which was obviously microwaved. Sorry but will not be recommending

Called for a few pint. Two couples. We decided on the fish chips and mushy peas. Top notch and the best I have had for many a long year. We all agreed. The place was warm, welcoming and spotless. The staff quick and efficient. Well done.

Lunch for 2 with wine for 1 and 0% cider for 1. The hotpot can definitely be recommended. Friendly and helpful staff, and a smile as well. A Christmas menu now available, no Sunday roasts while this menu is on.

Very good stadium to watch rugby league also a good place to celebrate birthday

Was in yesterday ( very busy) some guy at the side of me knocked a glass off and smashed all over floor, after telling several members of staff it took at least 40 minutes to brush it up . Accident waiting to happen.

Absolutely brilliant!!! It’s been a long time since I’ve been back in my home town and I’ve never had better service! Before I even got to the bar, the barman (Oliver) knew my drink order! Incredible. And the lady before (Sorry I can’t remember her name) but huge credit to the staff! Incredible service! Will leave a generous tip! Well deserved.

Nice pub but my boyfriend sat on what looked a comfortable chair he turned to talk to me and the back legs snapped and he fell and cut his hand on a rusty pipe sticking from the wall. Accidents happen but when we told the bar the girl came out looked at the chair laughed and went oh yeah it's broke and gave him a rubbish plaster so be careful where you sit.

I am registered disabled I I was told I couldn't come in because I couldn't walk straight I am waiting for 2 knee replacements I have arthritis in my lower back and my hips I fell 6 months ago I can't use my right hand I was told I am not allowed into the pub because I can't walk straight I fold my walking stick up and put it in my coat pocket I was told to go away

Not tried the food yet so can’t comment but many have highly recommended it. The beer is a little expensive in my opinion but not scandalous. Plenty of tv’s for sport and a little beer garden at the rear. Bar staff was very efficient on my one and only visit. Would recommend based on that one visit.

Since moving to St Helens a few years ago, the Nelson has been our favourite pub. Great beer prices, good for sports (TVs everywhere!), relaxed feel, nice garden area. Never had any problem in there - would recommend to anyone in Saints :)

We went in for a family meal and staff were really accommodating with my child. The food was delicious and came out in good time. We had a few drinks and watched the live sport they had on. Really good atmosphere and very clean! Will definitely be back again soon.

Went to the neksoncwith my husband for lunch the food was lovely my husband had the fish wich must have been the biggest chippy fish he's ever had it had not much batter on just as he likes it will definitely be going back for lunch again this week good value for money and pleasant staff x

Called after going to the cinema,as is our wont, and had a lovely meal in this town-centre pub. Lovely home-made food,excellent service and a very varied menu.Very good vim too. H8ghly recommended.

Food is great, don't drink alcohol though, so can't say anything about the booze. Always has been a great Lancastrian establishment though 😸👍

Friendly staff, great place for a drink.

We go for lunch most Fridays with our daughter. The pub allows us to book a table which is really useful since she has to be back in work within the hour. It is mostly quite busy, but the atmosphere is nice and friendly. I enjoy my individual hotpot : )

Excellent service lovely beer garden good prices

Great for a chippy tea with a pint , fish chips mushy peas for me , the wife had steak pudding chips and peas all good , service quality and price were excellent. The ' draft ' vinegar was a bit weak should have tried the packet vinegar instead. Two dinners two drinks at just over £20 a real winner for us. My only gripe is I forgot to add curry sauce to my oreder ......... Next time.

We visited The Nelson on a day where Britain was having their hottest heatwave and this pub did not put their air conditioner on???? Yet you could clearly see the newly installed air conditioner units hanging from the ceiling? so it was pretty frustrating sitting there having a drink and roasting in the heat with no relief from any air conditioning or fans. It is a nice place to grab a beer and the beer garden out the back is adequate, a good place for smokers – just don’t go to the Nelson on a hot day.

Very nice place, food is great good selection, plus it has its own chippy next door so there's a fusion of pub grub and chippy. Menu has its usual puddings but honestly they have cakes at the side of the bar and they are out of this world. Friendly staff very helpful. Highly recommend 👌

Very expensive, eaten 3 times , I had a Sunday lunch and it was boil in the bag roast beef, another occasion was the best spam fritter chips an pea's and gravey,,, all I can say is I could do boil in the bag anytime

Went on Thursday and decided to try the Lasagne, I was quite dissapointed with the quality and presentation, it was in a bowl swimming with far too much cheese, microwaved as it was stuck to the sides of the bowl and the ingredients were very very poor, it was more like a bowl of mushy pasta, there was 2 thin slices of garlic bread and a measly amount of salad, my total bill with drinks for 2 was just under £17 which was very poor value for what was received. I may reluctantly try a meal here again but if the food is this bad again I will go elsewhere. My review is based on the quality and value of the meal, the bar service and surrounding are excellent.

Worst Sunday lunch ever all gravy and peas .. Disgusting.

Came out as family of 4 for daughters 18th birthday but why should I have to order a meal for a child of 16yrs old just so she can have a glass of coke on a Sunday afternoon (I could understand if I had a child under 10 years old). Me and the Mrs have visited this this pub several times as a local pub but will bypass this pub when out on our own in future, and although said sign on the door qhich is fine but who actually looks at a door sign unless their children are very young these days, ridiculous establishment woyud not even give a 1 star on that basis.

Quite busy but no problem getting a table

We used to really enjoy going to the Nelson just after it had been refurbished, it was always consistently good, but just lately, we have noticed the quality of the food has dropped off a little and not as hot as it should be, we ordered fish and chips, I should also mention here that when we are eating food, we shouldn't have to put up with a lady sitting opposite to us, thinking she is entitled to smoke an e cigarette!

Pub and a chippy in one.. Better pubs and Chippies around if you don't mind separating the experiences.

Nice establishment. However had issues with other customers about my children being in the pub. The policy about kids only being allowed in if you buy a meal for them is ridiculous.

the food in here is amazing but it is dark and dismally I go in for something to eat and a pint then I'm out needs dragging in to the first sectionry by being painted and modonised
