Good place for pensioners lunch

Good place. Great service. Staff great.

Took my wife who is in A wheelchair to see a singer got there half an hour early as my wife booked a table to get there and no table avaliable. Very busy with young slappers all missed and falling over...

Staff are friendly, helpful and polite. Food is satisfactory and of plenty variety. Premises are clean and hygienic and everything is served well. We would definitely recommend this venue to anyone.

Family Sunday meet up,drinks to carvery,hanging kebabs,gyros,burgers and chicken nuggets,ice cream sundaes,choc fudge cake and waffles all were thoroughly enjoyed great staff on bar to serving and carvery

Came here to collect food to take out the food was waiting piping hot & plenty of variety from the carvery staff very helpful In future I’ll be having a drink here prior to taking my food home 👍

This used to be our favourite local for food and drinks, such a shame how the food has gone. Went today as weather was lovely, they had no lasagne and no steak and ale pie. We ordered the chicken and chorizo hanging kebab, with only 2 tiny pieces of chorizo and the chicken was so dry a long with the chips, they were quite hard as if they'd been there all day. We also had the fish and chips, that was also very dry. Probably won't go back again as this has happened before but we decided to give them another chance but it was exactly the same. Our friends have also said the same so cookhouse please sort the food out before you end up losing a lot of customers, bring it back to the way it was when you opened.

Me and my mum came for a meal and it was beautiful. She had a carvery and really enjoyed it and I had the fries and chicken strips. Staff were absolutely lovely and very helpful, would definitely come again. Lovely atmosphere and good food.

One of our local restaurants. We had the steak and it was cooked to perfection, food was fantastic and very hot. Been plenty of times, live music (not always great) Staff always friendly. Menu is good.

Absolutely shocking, waiters were terrible to us and rude, took ages for us to get served and saw underaged drinkers being served😡😡😡

I called in on the off chance to see if the staff there would help me out. My mother is in the local hospital and was really getting sick of the hospital food. I’m from Norfolk so I’m staying nearby in a hotel. I didn’t catch the servers name unfortunately but when I explained that I was looking to arrange for a takeaway for my mother, even asking for something that wasn’t (strictly speaking) on the menu, she couldn’t have been more helpful. She spoke to the chef and they put together what I ordered quickly, without a fuss and wished me and my mother the very best. I hope the management will be able to work out the name of the young lady who helped me and pass on my thanks. I really appreciated the effort. So many places would have just said no without thinking. I can’t tell you how thrilled my Mother was when I rocked up ten minutes later with her favourite foods. It really lifted her spirits and for that, I am truly thankful. PS - I also ate here the night prior and the hotdog was delightful. Thanks guys.

Please can someone do something about the roast potatoes they are awful. They need to look at how Toby Carvery cook theirs and do the same as they really let the roast down. They are really generous with the meat which is better than Toby Carvery.

Nice place for a reasonable lunch

We had a large party of 15. The food was lovely and all came out together promptly. However, this was not the same with desserts - we had a significant wait, and all came out separate, which was a shame as the service was excellent up until then. Maybe more staff are needed. Staff were professional and friendly. Good atmosphere. Blue light discount was accepted also which is a great help

Love the place, go every Thursday for my quiz, have had my past 3 birthday here’s and is just a good night out and it has great transport links! We aren’t local and live about a 15 minute drive away but call this out local! Scott, Katie, Will and the rest of the team are fantastic. And Alex the Quizman every Thursday delivers the best quiz in the north west 🪩🎉

Went for a carvery. Veg was terrible and the roast potatoes were really bad, inedible.

Came here for a surprise party. Buffet was lovely, atmosphere and space was good. Evan was a King. He pulled an absolute blinder to help pull off the surprise! Thanks to everyone!

This pub’s menu food has went down hill. The food tastes like cheap microwaved rubbish. I Ordered a curry from the “around the world menu” The quality is worse than Asda brand ready meal worth £1.85 but they charge £13. It’s insulting and offensive to say your menu is inspired from around the world yet offer awful cheap unauthentic food that tastes like it’s straight out the microwave. The latte couldn’t even be drunk. I strongly suggest you hire a barista (not from Costa or Starbucks because they’re awful too) to train your staff how to make a proper latte. I make lattes the correct way at home from correct puck-prep to foaming the milk correctly to attentive milk pouring to make the latte smooth and creamy throughout with a nice leaf art on the surface. So to see a latte made with zero attention or care and watching them just dump the milk in the cup was painful to watch and even worse to attempt to drink. I’ve tasted better out of a service station vending machine. Needless to say I didn’t drink it and ordered a tea instead. £40 not well spent and left still hungry.

Rainhill christmas light swith on . Amelia was working the bar upstairs. Fantastic service and very helpful. She run the bar on her own flawlessly. She is a credit to the pub and a value assistant.

Never ate here so can't comment, but nice pub, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, enjoyed it. 2nd visit here, both were enjoyable. See you soon.

Lovely food and very pleasant staff really good carvery. Our table was reserved and ready, the toilets are upstairs but don't know if there's a disabled.

Went for my daughter 21st Birthday Meal, excellent service, lovely staff went above & beyond to give my daughter a fantastic night, would highly recommend this pub to everyone.

Visited for the 1st time this evening. Were shown to table then girl just walked away without telling us we needed to order at the bar. Sat trying to catch someone's eye for 10 minutes thinking it was table service. Then I noticed another customer going to the bar. Carvery was fine,I was pleased that the food was hot as it can be lukewarm in other places. Reasonable price.

Had the carvery which was cold, roast potatoes were rock hard, we got one pigs in blanket which was no bigger then my thumb nail and the stuffing ball was the size of a cotton wool ball, overall it was probably the worst carvery I've had, no hotter then lukewarm, will not have one here again.

Still playing pop music out the speakers at the front of the pub whilst the Remembrance Day service at the war memorial was going on this morning a few hundred yards up the road - not really appropriate is it?

I took my grandchildren and their friends to the Halloween Party. They had a fabulous time with face painting and party games. I would recommend this party

My wife and I had are 47th wedding anniversary meal there today the 15th of Oct 2024. We were served by Amelia, who went above and beyond. She is excellent at her job and unbelievably polite. Plus the starter, main meal and dessert were extremely enjoyable and brilliantly presented and cooked. I would definitely return and would certainly recommend. Thankyou

Just called in for the pensioners carvery, £7.50 it was only 30 mins before it closes at 8pm, but it was still fresh and hot, very good value. Staff excellent, it wasn't busy but it was a Tuesday. Great midweek meal.

Extremely expensive drinks. Especially if you're drinking soft drinks. £3.50 for a pint of coke. £4.50 ish for a pint of John Smiths.

Awful food We ordered 2 cheese & steak ciabatta they were awful when we opened the ciabatta No cheese on them 2 tiny red onions no garlic mayo a few pieces of steak £9.95 each what a disgrace Says on the menu cheese and red onion with garlic mayo there wasn’t any plus the ciabatta was hard , had chips with it and they were cold The Whole meal was a disgrace to serve to any one

I don't usually post about places I didn't enjoy but I decided to about this place because it is very different between going for drinks versus eating food... Ordering is all at the bar which gets quite busy with drinks orders so it takes awhile to get a food order in, I ordered the nachos and the chicken strips. The chicken was really nice but kinda of small portion, but the nachos were not good. The pulled pork tasted like frozen grocery store meat and the tortilla crisps were very soggy. The bigger issues were what other people in my party ordered. My Brother in law ordered the mix grill and they forgot his steak, when we told them they asked him to stop eating so they could inspect his plate as if we were lying. My nephew got the kids lasagne which tasted terrible, nobody wanted more than one bite and I am know as the one that will eat anything especially lasagne. The only thing that anyone ordered that looked good was the hanging kabab. Aside from the service and the food I think this is a great place to go for drinks. Prices are reasonable and the beer gardens is really nice. Also great for a family as there is a nice playground area right next to the gardens so your kids can play while you enjoy a drink and socialize. I wouldn't recommend coming for food, if you do I would try the kebab... But I highly recommend coming for drinks and enjoying the gardens.

Absolutely awful I gave my food back and was put off ordering anything else wasn’t even offered a refund. Hard potatoes, the pig in blanket was like a brick.

What a great experience we all had celebrating a big birthday with family and friends. The function room was great , the perfect size for our group, the buffet was tasty and well priced. The team on the bar could not have been more helpful! Communication with the team before the event was great too!

A delicious carvery at a great price, a friendly atmosphere and free parking for 4 hours. A nice touch is free water and glasses at the bar. It’s my second visit in the last few weeks and it won’t be my last.

My Boyfriend and I have always felt welcome here, the staff are lovely and the food is good quality. The Breakfast Buffet has a great range of food to choose from, along with the good value for money carvery.

9 of us all had different meals, food was enjoyed by everyone. Biscoff cheesecake was lovely. I would definitely return

Just had roast dinner Picked it up as a takeaway Not the best potatoes where dreadful like they had been there all day long Thin gravy and soggy broccoli The turkey was nice but that was it oh and Yorkshire pud soggy Nearly £10 aswell Won’t be returning

Absolutely boss establishment, from the staff to the variety of available amenities, the cookhouse was a stellar standout experience for me. Personally, I was served by James, a strapping young chap, who provided me with a speedy and excellent service and despite the early hour of the day appeared eager and energetic. I got the breakfast buffet, which for around £8 was a bargain considering the multiple servings of the to die for french toast and the hearty breakfast of sausage and bacon. I found the interior design to be gentle on the eyes with the rustic and ambient glow of the hanging light bulbs as well as the cohesive mixture of designs, from patterns of floor tiles to the colour of the walls, which provided a refreshing respite from the dull and grey of an overcast english day. Despite my visit to the cookhouse being a solitary one, I believe the Cookhouse would be a joyful experience for the little ones. This is due to the breadth of services that would be a delight for children, like ice cream and slushies as well as milkshakes. To top it of there is a play area in the outside aswell. The cookhouse is a remarkable destination for a quick breakfast or as a treat for the family, 10/10 would visit again.

staff screamed in my dads face as he didn’t put his license plate in the machine. my dad has never been here before, he didn’t understand as he is very old and fragile especially on his bald head.

2 out of 5 went for the carvery to which we found dry the only thing nice on our plate was the 2 slices of turkey, veg was very over done, roast potatoes tasted like leather, gravy out of a packet & stuffing was like eating a dried out ball of nothing, no seasoning or other condiments but other 3 people had from the menu to which they gave a 3 out of 5 aswell. Will not be recommending or visiting this pub again. The staff were very nice though & helpful!

Came here yesterday lunchtime for the first time with friends who were visiting, two of us ordered the club chicken sandwich and both of us have had such awful food poisoning since. We have never been so ill.

Fantastic carvery, great atmosphere and lovely selection of drinks. There’s even a play area for kids out the back. Been here quite a few times now and I don’t have anything bad to say about it.

Had a lovely Father’s Day meal with my children. Rob and James and the rest of the staff were all fantastic, great service, fantastic food in a lovely clean and friendly environment. Would highly recommend and Will definitely return .thanks cookhouse 👍

Lovely venue with vast outside space offering great service.

Food was OK. Bar is very weirdly positioned with a massive column in front of it.

The carvery was absolutely shocking. Deep fried parsnip deep fried stuffing balls. The veg was unbelievable with just broccoli and dried up cauliflower cheese. The roast potatoes were I would guess at 20 degrees. The food temperature is in the danger zone and not held at over 63 degrees. I requested a refund and didn’t even get a sorry. I will be informing the local authority as the food that day was unsafe to eat.

Staff are absolutely shocking, my wife has been coming here with my kids for over a year and I happened to walk in to front of my kids and watched the staff run away from my kids, two ran into the kitchen and one ducked behind the bar to avoid serving her. Absolutely shocking, lost for words, I’ve been in hospitality 27 years and NEVER have I been subjected to this mean and just unacceptable behavior from grown adults!!!! Disgrace you should all be sacked and yes, I will addressing this is person

Well laid out dining area. Drinks and food offered good. Lovely outside covered seating area. Plenty of other tables all around the outside paving. Grandson enjoyed the park play area.

Food was below par, garlic bread floppy like old banana skin. Singapore noodles with nuked sold chicken. Side order of veg like it has been in the pot for four hours and the bowl was full of water. The musician was too load so couldn’t hear my partner. Unlikely to go back. My first visit last was much better, low standards now

All three of us had enjoyable reasonably priced meal . We all chose from the vegetarian menu which could perhaps be more promoted ;one of us already knew about it.

Lovely cosy venue, food, staff, service was great, as always! Easy to get to, parking and transport....It's a go to get together place with friends to chill. And thanks for the lovely happy birthday song when staff presented the birthday cake too.

Great food, friendly staff, it is on the slightly more expensive side when it comes to food and especially drinks but it is a lovely place and if you have kids then there is a small playground to the back of the place.

Very nice pub in the middle of rainhill village. Good selection of beers and food. I have tried the carvery a few times but is not as hot as I would like it but that is my own opinion. Beer garden is nice. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend small or large groups.

Visited tonight with family. Two of us ordered the daily special (lamb chops) with colcannon mash. Two ordered sirloin steak. They were not lamb chops as in lamb loin,just fat and inedible. The colcannon was some form of catering mash with a bit of white cabbage thrown in, tasted of nothing. Sirloin steak was definitely not a sirloin cut of beef. Unacceptable really but I suppose the chefs can only cook with the goods they are provided with. My advice, save your money , go to the butchers and cook it yourself.

We have recently moved back to the area so, first time in this pub, great layout, decor and atmosphere. Very welcoming staff, took our dog in too! Will be back to eat soon. Staff Becky & Gemma were pleasant and very responsive.

My sister in law and I went for lunch. We had never been before. I was up from Liverpool and she lives in St. Helens. We were initially impressed by the garden and play area for our grand children. The car park was really handy. We went to the bar and they were extremely pleasant and helpful. Neither of us felt like a big meal but chose 5 starters between us to come at the same time. Fabulous. So tasty. Very reasonable prices including the wine. Definitely go again

We live very close to the cookhouse Rainhill and absolutely love the carvery. It is so convenient for us as we work shifts and don't have time to cook a Sunday roast so cookhouse is perfect. Staff are lovely happy and helpful especially Lauren.

Excellent food and service and delightful experience always love it and cannot wait for the next meal.
