My wife and I had are 47th wedding anniversary meal there today the 15th of Oct 2024. We were served by Amelia, who went above and beyond. She is excellent at her job and unbelievably polite. Plus the starter, main meal and dessert were extremely enjoyable and brilliantly presented and cooked. I would definitely return and would certainly recommend. Thankyou

Just called in for the pensioners carvery, £7.50 it was only 30 mins before it closes at 8pm, but it was still fresh and hot, very good value. Staff excellent, it wasn't busy but it was a Tuesday. Great midweek meal.

Extremely expensive drinks. Especially if you're drinking soft drinks. £3.50 for a pint of coke. £4.50 ish for a pint of John Smiths.

Awful food We ordered 2 cheese & steak ciabatta they were awful when we opened the ciabatta No cheese on them 2 tiny red onions no garlic mayo a few pieces of steak £9.95 each what a disgrace Says on the menu cheese and red onion with garlic mayo there wasn’t any plus the ciabatta was hard , had chips with it and they were cold The Whole meal was a disgrace to serve to any one

I don't usually post about places I didn't enjoy but I decided to about this place because it is very different between going for drinks versus eating food... Ordering is all at the bar which gets quite busy with drinks orders so it takes awhile to get a food order in, I ordered the nachos and the chicken strips. The chicken was really nice but kinda of small portion, but the nachos were not good. The pulled pork tasted like frozen grocery store meat and the tortilla crisps were very soggy. The bigger issues were what other people in my party ordered. My Brother in law ordered the mix grill and they forgot his steak, when we told them they asked him to stop eating so they could inspect his plate as if we were lying. My nephew got the kids lasagne which tasted terrible, nobody wanted more than one bite and I am know as the one that will eat anything especially lasagne. The only thing that anyone ordered that looked good was the hanging kabab. Aside from the service and the food I think this is a great place to go for drinks. Prices are reasonable and the beer gardens is really nice. Also great for a family as there is a nice playground area right next to the gardens so your kids can play while you enjoy a drink and socialize. I wouldn't recommend coming for food, if you do I would try the kebab... But I highly recommend coming for drinks and enjoying the gardens.

Absolutely awful I gave my food back and was put off ordering anything else wasn’t even offered a refund. Hard potatoes, the pig in blanket was like a brick.

What a great experience we all had celebrating a big birthday with family and friends. The function room was great , the perfect size for our group, the buffet was tasty and well priced. The team on the bar could not have been more helpful! Communication with the team before the event was great too!

A delicious carvery at a great price, a friendly atmosphere and free parking for 4 hours. A nice touch is free water and glasses at the bar. It’s my second visit in the last few weeks and it won’t be my last.

My Boyfriend and I have always felt welcome here, the staff are lovely and the food is good quality. The Breakfast Buffet has a great range of food to choose from, along with the good value for money carvery.

9 of us all had different meals, food was enjoyed by everyone. Biscoff cheesecake was lovely. I would definitely return

Just had roast dinner Picked it up as a takeaway Not the best potatoes where dreadful like they had been there all day long Thin gravy and soggy broccoli The turkey was nice but that was it oh and Yorkshire pud soggy Nearly £10 aswell Won’t be returning

Absolutely boss establishment, from the staff to the variety of available amenities, the cookhouse was a stellar standout experience for me. Personally, I was served by James, a strapping young chap, who provided me with a speedy and excellent service and despite the early hour of the day appeared eager and energetic. I got the breakfast buffet, which for around £8 was a bargain considering the multiple servings of the to die for french toast and the hearty breakfast of sausage and bacon. I found the interior design to be gentle on the eyes with the rustic and ambient glow of the hanging light bulbs as well as the cohesive mixture of designs, from patterns of floor tiles to the colour of the walls, which provided a refreshing respite from the dull and grey of an overcast english day. Despite my visit to the cookhouse being a solitary one, I believe the Cookhouse would be a joyful experience for the little ones. This is due to the breadth of services that would be a delight for children, like ice cream and slushies as well as milkshakes. To top it of there is a play area in the outside aswell. The cookhouse is a remarkable destination for a quick breakfast or as a treat for the family, 10/10 would visit again.

staff screamed in my dads face as he didn’t put his license plate in the machine. my dad has never been here before, he didn’t understand as he is very old and fragile especially on his bald head.

2 out of 5 went for the carvery to which we found dry the only thing nice on our plate was the 2 slices of turkey, veg was very over done, roast potatoes tasted like leather, gravy out of a packet & stuffing was like eating a dried out ball of nothing, no seasoning or other condiments but other 3 people had from the menu to which they gave a 3 out of 5 aswell. Will not be recommending or visiting this pub again. The staff were very nice though & helpful!

Came here yesterday lunchtime for the first time with friends who were visiting, two of us ordered the club chicken sandwich and both of us have had such awful food poisoning since. We have never been so ill.

Had a lovely Father’s Day meal with my children. Rob and James and the rest of the staff were all fantastic, great service, fantastic food in a lovely clean and friendly environment. Would highly recommend and Will definitely return .thanks cookhouse 👍

Fantastic carvery, great atmosphere and lovely selection of drinks. There’s even a play area for kids out the back. Been here quite a few times now and I don’t have anything bad to say about it.

Blue light card holders - get 10% off NOT 25% . Food was average x I had steak kebab - tough and chewy . Husband had hunter’s chicken which was tiny x great singer though

Food was OK. Bar is very weirdly positioned with a massive column in front of it.

The carvery was absolutely shocking. Deep fried parsnip deep fried stuffing balls. The veg was unbelievable with just broccoli and dried up cauliflower cheese. The roast potatoes were I would guess at 20 degrees. The food temperature is in the danger zone and not held at over 63 degrees. I requested a refund and didn’t even get a sorry. I will be informing the local authority as the food that day was unsafe to eat.

Great family friendly place with good service and food is always very tasty

Staff are absolutely shocking, my wife has been coming here with my kids for over a year and I happened to walk in to front of my kids and watched the staff run away from my kids, two ran into the kitchen and one ducked behind the bar to avoid serving her. Absolutely shocking, lost for words, I’ve been in hospitality 27 years and NEVER have I been subjected to this mean and just unacceptable behavior from grown adults!!!! Disgrace you should all be sacked and yes, I will addressing this is person

Food was below par, garlic bread floppy like old banana skin. Singapore noodles with nuked sold chicken. Side order of veg like it has been in the pot for four hours and the bowl was full of water. The musician was too load so couldn’t hear my partner. Unlikely to go back. My first visit last was much better, low standards now

All three of us had enjoyable reasonably priced meal . We all chose from the vegetarian menu which could perhaps be more promoted ;one of us already knew about it.

Lovely cosy venue, food, staff, service was great, as always! Easy to get to, parking and transport....It's a go to get together place with friends to chill. And thanks for the lovely happy birthday song when staff presented the birthday cake too.

Great food, friendly staff, it is on the slightly more expensive side when it comes to food and especially drinks but it is a lovely place and if you have kids then there is a small playground to the back of the place.

Very nice pub in the middle of rainhill village. Good selection of beers and food. I have tried the carvery a few times but is not as hot as I would like it but that is my own opinion. Beer garden is nice. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend small or large groups.

Visited tonight with family. Two of us ordered the daily special (lamb chops) with colcannon mash. Two ordered sirloin steak. They were not lamb chops as in lamb loin,just fat and inedible. The colcannon was some form of catering mash with a bit of white cabbage thrown in, tasted of nothing. Sirloin steak was definitely not a sirloin cut of beef. Unacceptable really but I suppose the chefs can only cook with the goods they are provided with. My advice, save your money , go to the butchers and cook it yourself.

We have recently moved back to the area so, first time in this pub, great layout, decor and atmosphere. Very welcoming staff, took our dog in too! Will be back to eat soon. Staff Becky & Gemma were pleasant and very responsive.

My sister in law and I went for lunch. We had never been before. I was up from Liverpool and she lives in St. Helens. We were initially impressed by the garden and play area for our grand children. The car park was really handy. We went to the bar and they were extremely pleasant and helpful. Neither of us felt like a big meal but chose 5 starters between us to come at the same time. Fabulous. So tasty. Very reasonable prices including the wine. Definitely go again

We live very close to the cookhouse Rainhill and absolutely love the carvery. It is so convenient for us as we work shifts and don't have time to cook a Sunday roast so cookhouse is perfect. Staff are lovely happy and helpful especially Lauren.

Excellant venue for a local lunch in pleasant surroundings with helpful staff. The carvery was good value for money, served pleasantly. The only problem being that common to carverys everywhere - lukewarm vegetables. We were impressed when we mentioned this to the staff, they were more than happy to resolve it with the use of a microwave. Overall we would be most happy to return and encourage local people to do the same.

Birthday dinner for my wife. Our children, their partners and our granddaughter all joined us. Table booked for 6pm but we didn’t all arrive until 6.30 but no issues. We had a good table in what was a busy (but not too busy) pub restaurant, despite being busy, service was quick for starters and mains. It was not especially expensive either. Food quality for each of us was good. For starters it was the black pudding stack, halloumi fries, tortilla and breaded mozzarella sticks. Mains were two chilli dogs, lasagne, chicken hanging kebab, penne Mexicana and Mediterranean veg kebab. Plenty of high chairs available for our granddaughter. Thanks everyone at cookhouse Rainhill

I cannot thank the Cookhouse enough for what they did for us on Monday 29th January. We had a private room upstairs and nothing was to much trouble. The food was a hot and cold buffet, served on time, piping hot and absolutely delicious. I would like to also especially thank a lovely young Girl called Katie who kept us filled up with our drinks and always a smile and a chat. Also 1 of the managers Marius, made sure we where all ok and asking if there was anything we needed. I will definitely be booking again. Once again Thank you Katie. You where amazing.

I asked for booth seating as I have a severe back issue and I cannot sit on hard chairs, or it results in me being in a lot of pain afterwards, pain that can last up to 48 hours. Even though I explained my back issue on the booking, we were taken to seats in the window, hard seats. I explained and the waiter said they’d seen the request (booked the previous day) but booths where all booked (yet most where empty). There was no other option offered by the waiter. He said for me to speak to another man behind the bar. On route I saw seats by the ice cream area and asked if we could sit there. They where soft seats and thankfully we were able to stay and happily enjoy our time there without the worry and pain of hard seats. I can understand from the restaurant POV as I think most booth seatings are for 4 people and we were a party of 2. However perhaps this is something that could be looked into. We would have been happy to have been sat in the area we needed up in. It’s also noted that most booths were still empty when we left at 6pm. Arrived at 3.30pm and we could have been seated there. I wouldn’t say a requirement for seating should it not be important and due to an injury. This happened about two years ago on a birthday booking and I had no choice other than to sit on the hard seats and I paid the price for days afterwards. We didn’t return for a very long time due to this and that booking was booked well in advance. Our last few bookings have all been great and the booking request listened too. It’s such a shame because it puts me off booking again. Plus points, the food was really good, like it has been the previous few visits, including Christmas Eve, which was our last visit as a family of 4. Yesterday was just me and a friend. Lovely drinks, great prices and the venue is really clean and cosy. It’s just such a shame because it has really put me off again. I find it quite embarrassing having to discuss my health issue, especially with other guests around. I also think it’s really poor to read a request for soft seating due to severe back injury and this be ignored. I say it’s severe because it’s severe. I would rather the venue phone me and say they are fully booked and could only offer hard seating and given us the opportunity to cancel. Rather than be met with the awkwardness when we arrive. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn’t for this.

We visited New Years Eve for tea, at 5.15pm It was extremely busy but we were sat promptly. All the staff were very pleasant. The food was delicious. Highly recommend a visit.

You can’t go wrong with the cookhouse in rainhill. Excellent food, prices and atmosphere and very clean. Staff are also excellent and really friendly. Holds regular quiz nights/live entertainment and has good background music on at all other times which I prefer as it drowns...

Poor night at a usual good venue. Front of house, tall guy with ponytail abruptly informed us our booked 2.5 hr table from 1800 would be needed by 1945. Utterly unsmiling throughout. Same with bar staff. Considering we spent over £100 for 2 people, a smile wouldn’t have gone amiss. Even a fake one. Restaurant was busy and we understand need to keep people moving but attitude was unnecessary. V disappointed. However, young restaurant minions were amazing. The can do attitude of the minions compensated for those who should not have been front of of house. When people pay good money for good service, we don’t expect to be greeted, or more to the point, not greeted by a can’t be arsed attitude.

Booked a table for 8 for Xmas day dinner. Saff were very friendly and nothing seemed a problem including taking photos. The food was excellent and the service was really good, I would recommend the Raihill Cookhouse if you want good food and excellent service.

Went for a meal with friends and wasnt aware of the registration process at the bar. Later received a £100 fine from the pub car park which we ended up paying on threat of court action against us in spite of being able to provide a pub receipt proving we were legitimate customers. Won't be returning.
